[Q] Replacement Lens housing/Battery Cover - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
Does anyone know where i might be able to get a new one? I cracked the glass some time ago now and would like to get it replaced.
Also anyone know where i can obtain a new or refurbed battery cover as mine seems to be peeling.
Thanks,
Healy.

I got mine here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-HTC-HD2-BLACK-BACK-HOUSING-REPLACEMENT-/260655128116?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneFascias_JN&hash=item3cb0419e34
Delivery was quick and the parts seem to be the same as the orginal

Thats great! Did it take long to fit?

No, not too long maybe 30 mins or so.
You need some basic tools (T4 Torx driver and a case opener) you can buy what you need at the same place http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/REPAIR-OPENING-TOOLS-KIT-PDA-MOBILE-PHONES-6-PCS-/110575259857?pt=UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item19becc90d1
Then you'll need the first few minutes of video 1 here http://pocketnow.com/hardware-1/official-htc-hd2-disassembly-assembly-training-videos-leaked It's pretty straight forward, basically you take out the battery remove 4 screws, pry off the old cover, fit the new one and then reverse the process!
Just be careful of static, if you're not feeling confident you should be able to find a shop tp do this for you.
Hope this helps

Replacement Hero Housing/Facia

Hey guys,
My white unlocked Hero has sustained some nasty body scratches plus it is starting to turn yellow. I'm considering a full body replacement. I was only able to find this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/GENINUE-HOUSING-FACEPLATE-FACIA-GOOGLE-G3-HTC-
HERO-WT_W0QQitemZ280402919652QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item41495100e4
Do you think that it's going to be as good as the original one? The seller claims that it's genuine, What do you think?
I found a site that has both the black and white housing for the gsm hero.
http://www.truesupplier.com/faceplate-housing-cover-for-htc-hero-g2-touch-white-color-pr-18489.html
How do I know that it's genuine? or at least as good as the original HTC cover?

The web page is called "truesupplier.com". OF COURSE its genuine
How hard is it to change the housing anyway?
by changing housing you will probably break phone trust me ... and truesupplier housing is oem not genuine by looks of it..
He might not break it if he's careful, and has the proper tools. I've taken apart a few phones without causing any problems.
So unless i'm handy at doing these things, I should not do it myself?
What if I have our local HTC agent do it? Will it at least look as good as new?
i have the white hero and would love to put the black case on it.
the site mentioned above says it comes with the tools needed to change the cover, has any tried doing this?
i would love to go for it but don't want to f*&k my phone up!
i think its not so difficult to switch the cover if you take off the backcover there are 6 screws than open the case from the top of the mobile phone and pull it off
but becarefull maybe there are flatcables from die lcd or the trackball just make it slow and be carefull all the time
and maybe you can find a dissembly how to in google
peace
this site has pics of disassembly of a hero but it's in russian.
http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/htc_hero/
If you have to pry the phone open use something plastic so you dont damage the original case. Just in case the ebay housing is rubbish.

whats the difference between oem and genuine
any1 bought replacement white hoising? mine is getting yellow. so need to buy a back cover.
Thinking of buying one myself. I accidentally dropped mine on the tiled floors of my workplace toilets LOL (luckily not IN the toilet). so now there's a little nick on the top left corner of the case.
If this is your first time you will probably scratch the covers but nothing more. You need to be very patient and i will suggest take a look to a good tutorial.
iopened my hero 1 week ago and its so easy maybe in the next days i will upload a video in youtube
bye
I bought the ebay one. It's surprisingly well built (Not Teflon though).
The sad part is that my touch screen got screwed up during the installation. The bottom part of the screen is no longer functional and the sensitivity is messed up overall. Did the replacement in a local phone shop.
Now trying to find a way to fix it.

That would be greatly appreciated!
hmm do you want to sell me your backplate of your old case? i need it please
and to fix your problem : you need a new display glas with digitizer
to remove your old glas: use a hairdryer, you have to heat up the old clue of the old glas and than you can push it easily out of the frame but be carefull not to heatup the frame, the plastic can deform, maybe you can cover it with aluminium foil from the kitchen
the video of the dissembly will be uploaded tomorrow by me
good night guys!

Where can I find new display glass for HTC hero? or can I just buy something generic?
I don't mind giving you my old backcover though it's in a very bad shape (which is why I wanted to replace it in the first place).

Anyone need to replace broken glass over the camera lens?

I bought a used Vibrant on eBay, and it came with a broken piece of glass on the camera. It had a nice little 'Y' shape right in the middle that caused a nasty glare in any pictures with a light source shining on it. So I looked at the site known for selling the front-facing cameras, and sure enough, they have the camera glass as well:
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Samsung-S-i9000-Camera-Lens-p/smsng6087120.htm
Unfortunately, they've also got a min quantity of 5, and more shipping than is strictly necessary, turning my $3 part into a $30 part. So, long story short, I've got 3 extra camera lenses (I'm keeping an extra one, just in case). Anyone want them? I'm thinking $7 a piece shipped in a normal envelope would work. PM if interested. All sold. Feel free to post here if you do a min buy and need to sell extras
For posterity, here's how to do it (though it's pretty obvious once you try):
1. Open the back according to the instructions in the hardware GPS fix thread (you may want to do the GPS fix at the same time, if you haven't already). I found it easiest to start prying the back off from the bottom of the side with the power button, and then work around the bottom to the other side, and the up.
2. Looking at the inside of the back piece, remove the black sticker from around the camera glass bezel's feet. See picture 2.
3. Pry up the 3 metal feet of the camera glass bezel so that they stand as straight up as you can get them. See picture 3.
4. Flip the back piece over so that you can see the bezel, and pop it off. Underneath where it was, the glass is adhered to the back. Gently but firmly pry it off. See picture 4.
5. Replace the glass, stick the bezel back on, flip it over and bend out the bezel feet again, put the sticker back on, and reassemble the phone.
Easy.
I've gotten one nibble...anyone else?

If anyone has 1 extra, I wanna buy one off you!
Camera lens just broke, need a replacement!
So I dropped my SGS and unsurpisingly the camera lens cracked. Thanks for putting up this tutorial on how to replace the lens though, as I've been looking for something like this for a while.
Any chance you still have any extra lenses? If not I may just buy 5 and then see if anyone else needs the others as you've done.
Cheers!
I'm all out now, I even sold the one I was thinking of keeping as extra. I guess it took about two months to sell them, but I did eventually. Someone else needs to bite the bullet now
I may just bite that bullet. Wondering if anyone else here would need some. I see 1-2 peeps so far

I'm in for one. Let me know if you decide to purchase.
I'll buy them today. I'll post back in this thread when they arrive and let interested parties know how to get your hands on one.
OP - How long did delivery take when you ordered?

I don't remember it taking too long...
Think he bailed...
Hey, I might be in for one as well. I was the guy that bought the last remaining one from OP, but It might be lost in the mail. I was going to wait it out a few more days and then find a new source.
If u find a new source, please post a link. Ive searched for days and couldn't find anything.
I haven't purchased the lens covers yet as I'm having a pretty strong moral objection to the shop wanting to charge $35 dollars to ship 5 tiny pieces of plastic to me.
I hate these bloody "shipping and handling" scammers and don't really want to give them any of my money.
I'm still looking for other options and will post if I find anything.
SIGH* searched all over, can't find anywhere that sells this one piece.
an alternative is to buy the backplate housing which includes the lens piece, but that wouldn't be a cheap solution.

My suggestion would to just be buy the lot and put the ones you dont use on ebay... I'm sure somewhere out there someone also needs this pieces. Yeah your not gonna get your money back right away ... but hey you can jack up the price 5 bucks and make some money off someone hahaha
has anyone took one for the team yet?...
I had a very messed up camera lens. Bought a phone from ebay with an unusably scratched camera lens. Used a nail buffer. it took a lot of elbow grease and I rounded it off a bit, but the camera doesn't seem to be distorted and now work perfectly.
used one like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0PAX4CKESB6JYP1QTJEP
first you start with the coarse side. you have to work at it for a while. there will be a shrinking circle in the middle of the lens that buffer can't get to at first. you have to work at it for like 10 min to resurface the entire area. Once you've roughed up the whole lens move on to the next finer side... work all 4 sides for about 5 min each, or so... and you should be good.
wet sanding would probably work better... but this is a pretty damn good fix using something you probably already have laying around the house.

How to replace HTC Mozart glass / digitiser

I can't find any info on this, but it looks like it could be tricky to replace. I cracked my glass by dropping it onto stone, still works OK. You can pick up digitisers pretty cheap on ebay (£20 UK) but does anyone know how to replace? I read that they can be glued to the LCD?
Thanks
Google for the fixit website, if someone has done it there will be a tutorial, or you could follow the guide on here to upgrade your sd card....only because you have to take the phone fully apart. You need to check if the lcd is glued or like the iphone 4 resin. If they are a sealed unit you'd be better off getting the lcd/digitizer combo on ebay. trying to separate an lcd from the digitizer is asking for trouble imho.
I have ordered a digitiser, really hope the digitiser is not glued to the LCD, there is a big price difference. I'll let you know how I get on.
I bought a Mozart with wrecked digitizer and also want to repair it. The digitizer is on its way, so in a week i could tell you how difficult or maybe easy it is.
If you are faster, please post your experience.
I found this thread on xda.cn, and it seems that the lcd isnt glued on the digitizer, so lets hope so
hxxp://xxx.xda.cn/newshow.php?snid=2167
EDIT: sorry cantpost links, so must change the x's to t's and w's
I have got my digitiser now, looks brand new. Just need to find the time to replace, might upgrade the SD card at the same time.
Done
I did this with Andy's guide to help: http://lifeinthefastlaneok.wordpres...-7-mozart-sd-card-memory-upgrade/#comment-225
I used this guide to replace my digitiser (the glass) which I smashed. The good news is that the digitiser is not stuck to the LCD at all. I just bought a grade A digitiser off ebay for £20 which was pretty much perfect - glass was perfect with a couple of small marks on the back case, but basically like new.
There were a couple of differences to this guide:
- Had to replace a speaker type thing at the top of the digitiser that was not present on the new one. Came off quite easily, just stuck in.
- Had to remove the USB port of the old case back (if you are replacing that too) but that was just a couple of screws
- You dont have to split the PCB off if doing this, you just take off the black clips to take it apart and then remove the orange ribbon cable, it is a little tricky to get the new one in but OK.
I now have a phone as good as new, I didn't replace the SD at the same time but probably will do at some point when I can stand loosing all my data.
Found time today to replace the digitizer. I also used Andy's videos for instruction. And it's really not that hard. Pretty easy for someones first mobile phone repair.
Well done, I would add for anyone else needing to do this, be very careful not to touch the inside of the digitiser or the LCD when you have it apart! Also have a glasses cloth handy for removing any dust particles just before you put it back together.
I do have one strange thing however - before I had intermittent issues where I could not slide the screen up when locked for 10 seconds or so. No I have a slightly different issue when unlocking - it doesn't always let me press on the right hand 3 numbers on the PIN screen! So it seems the unlocking issue some people have is due to a hardware issue. My digitiser was second hand so I might ask for a replacement, but I can change my pin so that it is not an issue.
My Mozart touch-screen hardly works at all plus my wife's Mozart has a cracked digitizer glass (still working fine).
So silly me I took the plunge and ordered three cheap replacement digitizers via eBay (from Hong Hong). They arrived today and all are s**t useless.
When I opened the box I smelt the rat when I spied the HTC logo on each was blanked out on the outside of the plastic zip-lock bags (with what looked like black felt pen), plus each glass has minor blemishes/scratches. Comparing each with the digitizers I removed from my and my wife's phones, they have a different design of ribbon cable conductor layout plus there are indications the plastic moulding isn't as well finished in a couple of places. Either these are factory rejects or knock-off copies. Lesson learnt :-(
Anyway, I now need to buy genuine HTC parts.
Any pointers toward reliable sources appreciated, thanks.
KJ
I have bought some off ebay. The problem is that these are almost always from returned Mozart's which may well have been returned due to non responsive screens, which seems to be a very common problem.
I have had 2 off the same chap now, one is OK but not perfect, the other one didnt work at all.
I would just keep returning them until you get one that works.
Sometimes you will find new combined digitiser/LCD's on ebay too, these would be a better bet but cost more.
Can someone who as changed a screen on this phone using Andys guide, please tell me how easy or hard it was, and how long does it take??
And would be grateful if someone could give me a link to the correct digitizer for this phone....
I am in the UK and have been qouted 50 pounds at a phone shop for the to supply and fit screen...
Did you see my post?

The most tricky thing for me was getting all the dust off the LCD and the digitsier, as soon as you get it apart things start sticking to it like crazy. Have a clean glasses cloth around.
It takes about an hour on your first go. The main thing is to get the orange ribbon cablle in fully, it can be tricky - you need to get a good grip on it (fold it a little) and push it home quite hard, otherwise you get it all back together and find it doesn't work.
I have had 2 dodgy screens off ebay, £50 sounds OK if it is a brand new original HTC screen.
Or just search for 'htc mozart digitiser' on ebayt there are loads.

Thank you for that. A close look at the ones I bought from china I'm sure now are removed from phones with faulty digitizers, then repackaged as new. One of the three had significant dust and dirt on the inside of the digitiser screen. I've requested a refund via PalPal disputes.
I've ordered some digitizers from ecell in the UK. I'm led to believe by them that these are genuine HTC factory supplied spares.
KJ
I just replaced my 4th screen (1 broke, 2 dodgy).
This one is perfect - as new condition and works perfectly, my last one was not responsive in some situations e.g. lock screen.
This is the one I got (UK)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130498971267?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Of course, your mileage may vary - some are probably good, some not. Replace it, if it doesn't work ask for another, etc.
My new digitizers arrived today from the uk. Horray they are genuine HTC spare parts properly packaged. The downside is they don't include the frame the glass sit in and is adhered to.
So I watched the official HTC Mozart disassembly video on youtube to see how to remove the existing digitizer glass from the frame - got it apart ok after heating the unit to soften the adhesives but it didn't come away entirely cleanly i.e some of the adhesive foam broke away and was left on the underside of the glass.
So... check on eBay and found sellers selling refurbished screen frames ready for a new glass to be attached.
Will update on progress once they arrive.

Also, how much have others paid? Don't want to be ripped off for some sub-standard part.
Hello everybody,
I m trying to replace the digitiser of a HTC Mozart too.
It is really easy to do, even the part where you have to take off the digitiser from the plastic frame.
But I have an issue, it is the second digitiser I am using ( from the same ebay shop ) and the digitiser is working inverted vertically! Really strange but it is like that.
As the mobile phone is started up, when I push on a left buton, it push on a right button ! On the key board, when I press on "P" it press on "A" ( i m using an Azerty layout, I assume it should be "Q" on your layout ).
It is really anyoing of course.
It is the second screen I received from the Ebay shop and same issue, I don't think the problem come from my side, but I just want to ask to you all if somebody have an idea or the same issue once.

Mate, I had the same problem. However it seems no one was able to help me either.
I also purchased a digitizer from Ebay for my Mozart - the exact same inverted issue occurred with me. I wasn't able to find a solution.
I'm in Australia with a T8697 model. The digitizer I received from Ebay had a circle around the windows button at the bottom - This was not on my original screen.
In the end, I purchased a digitizer from an Australian business. Cost double the Ebay digitizer did, so I hope it works... Haven't received it yet, but I'll let you know when I put it in.
What model Mozart do you own?

HTC Jetstream Service Manual ???

Does anyone have a service manual for the Jetstream ?
I wanted to take off the back cover and fix a large dent I got on it. I bought the 249.00 special on eBay. Other than that, the screen is perfect and the device works fine.
Now for some rooting and hacking !
I got two of those.lol.
There is a service manual on the internet but it doesn't tell you how to disassemble the JetStream; you won't find a guide like that anywhere.
I managed to open it but the battery is superglued to the back door aluminum plate and there are two rather frail cables that attach the battery to the motherboard and it uses a weird type of clip on connector that I haven't seen before; I didn't want to rip off that connector so I just put it back together and decided to live with the small dent in the back door. Get a nice cover and you won't even see it.
Moral of the story is....if it ain't broken don't try to fix it.

Are there any microphone controls in this piece? It seems that the when we do a voice chat the voice is not picked up. Any help is appreciated

Sorry for the late reply, haven't checked this site in a while. Honestly I opened mine up so long ago that I barely remember the location of the screws, but you should be able to take them off with a T-6. Once you remove them, use a thin, plastic, prying tool to separate the back plate from the front piece - triple check to make sure you got all the screws out. It takes some effort to do it but be very patient and gentle with it; don't forget the wire that runs from the battery to the metal rear piece once you open it.
If I still had my jetstream I'd make a video or a disassemble guide with pics but I sold mine a while ago; got tired of waiting around for an updated android ROM. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply

Can someone confirm this is a LCD/digitizer issue?

Hey there, here is an image of my gf's phone (my old one!) which i recently dropped quite hard onto concrete from about 4ft high. As you can see it's slowly dying, the pink-ish band has been coming down gradually over the past 24 hours.
My plan is to find a replacement LCD/digitiser screen and fit it to the phone. Will I need a new glass cover also? Has anyone else ever seen this and successfully repaired it?
Thanks!

If I'm correct is a screen problem
Definitely the digitizer.....
that is broken. Bought a replacement on ebay, about 100 dollars. Came as one unit, front w/glass, digitizer and connector tool and screwdriver. Fairly easy to replace. Look at youtube videos. That helps.
Be sure you get the right one. My softkeys are erratic at times. Might be the versoin that is wrong.
Any confirmation om that will be appriciated w or wo any hints to correct that.
thanks guys, gonna look for a kit now. Does anyone know if I can buy a second phone with for example, bad motherboard, and lift the whole screen and stuff from that one?
my pack arrived today, but there's a big plastic thing same shape as the screen, but like a big sticker with different cut outs. Is this the digitizer? Do I have to break open the fresh front panel? All the guides I've seen suggest otherwise, but I can't figure out for the life of me where it goes :/
just in case anyone was wondering... i never used the sticker thing. I followed iFixit directions and the phone is good as new. a snazzy white/blue hybrid!
