Hi all,
Since few times ago, i'm unable to update RSS Hub and many other programs that need data connection (Anuvadak, SPB News, Follow french soccer league, ...).
It always told me : connection impossible or messages like that.
But ALL MY other Internet data are available (mail, websurfing, Google Maps...) !!!
What's wrong doctor ?
Maybe a tweak is cutting down all my data configs ?
Thanks in advance.
Note : I have a HD2, running non-cooked Rom.
No answer ?

I'd like to help you with this not sure what you mean lol social hub shows all mailboxes and you can go to each mailbox to see mail the mail that came to it, if that's what you mean
2) how to i change custom ringtones and system sound?
go to sounds then ringtones or whatever you want to change...a nd itll ask if you want to choose a sound file (i guess thats from a setlist) or custom file. for example i changed my alarm to the game of thrones opening ... what a way to wake up every morning!
3) What's the benefit of rooting? is it like jailbeaking on iphone? can i install downloaded apps from the PC?
yeah rooting is basically like jailbreak on iphone. you can copy an apk file on your phone and install. actually you dont even need root do to this with GSII, original galaxy required root to install your own apk but this doesnt... awesome haha
4) Whats the best sat nav software? i used TomTom on iphone would there be a version for Android?
android has A-GPS. i dont know why you'd use any other gps. unless youre asking about a gps that can store maps into the phone so you dont need data connection (like a dedicated GPS would do)
Thanks

Whats the best sat nav software? i used TomTom on iphone would there be a version for Android?
Need to ask Tom Tom but farly sure non in the pipeline .
Co-Pilot is Android as are a few others and Google maps has navigation .
I use Co Pilot as it has stored maps the rare times i use sat nav .
.
Google maps navigation will require a constant data download to connect a route .Though it may cache enough before on a short route .
Galaxy S2 and 1 both have hardware standalone GPS plus A-GPS .
GPS as a standalone sat nav unit with A_GPS used to enhance signal from network towers and WiFi .

Hi,
Thanks never looked at the social hub before that's what i meant - I should really look at the standard apps more before purchasing additional apps.
With the Sat Nav I want to have the maps stored on the device and don't want to cache them over 3G what would be the best to get compared Ndrive, Co Pilot, etc...
Thanks

Hi
I have bought a new Galaxy S2 today, migrating from HTC Diamond Touch with custom ROM (which I have forgot how and when I flashed 5 years ago)
I need your help guys on what are the most necessary things I have to do (or read about) to get me started quickly with the phone:
1-Import/export contacts.
2-Control data connection (I dont want a huge bill waiting for me on a holiday)
3-block or delete and spyware/ad-ware if it is part of Android ? (no idea) particularly blocking Google from silently collecting my data.
4-Would I be able to type SMS in any language ? (i.e. Latin letters, Cyrillic, Arabic)
4-Best ROM for Battery and Best ROM for features.
Your suggestions are mostly appreciated
Cheers !
Damian
1. from a win6 phone? no idea
2. you have a data on/off switch in the notification panel
3. get adblock to block ads, don't believe google silently collects things that you do on your phone, however if you use their apps like search/maps/nav/youtube or whatever they collect that info just like on the pc
4. possibly
5. try them all, there's plenty of samsung/miui/cyanogen mod roms out there and they all differ in looks/features
Many thanks for your advise, I will make some tests once I get the phone.
Cheers !
Hello everyone !
I have a problem that may have been addressed many times before. I do apologize, but the search didn't bring me needed answers. I also apologize for any bad english.
Here is the deal :
I am concerned with the "background data" the android os transfers via my mobile internet.
I rooted the phone, cleared all the useless .apk's from /system/app folder (even removed google play and as much of google stuff as i could), installed DroidWall and set very strict firewall rules ...
And still when i open data usage in settings menu, i see "android os" transfered 6.6mb in past 20 days. WHAT is that stuff ?!
I only use internet for stock e-mail, naked browser, internet radio, and wolfram alpha. Only those 4 applications should ever use the internet. I wish that not a single byte of data is ever EVER transfered besides the needs of these 4 applications. I do not want "Android Os" or any other background process connecting to any server on the internet "behind my back".
I am not very experienced in android os. But if it is required, i will learn how to flash another rom, to cook rom, learn and do anything i can to take COMPLETE control of the bandwith, if it is possible. Is it ? If it is, the main question and the reason i posted this thread is : HOW ? Just please do not assure me that that data is nothing to worry about, or ask me why do i care. If you can say nothing about solution, you can not help me.
The device is 2011 Xperia Pro (mk16i) and android version is 4.0.4
Thanks in advance !
There are some data between your phone and google server. Recall some phones have feature to disable background data. Not sure whether your phone have it.
You could try some tool to monitor what application creates link.

Thank you for your reply !
There is a built in tool "Data Usage" in the settings. It shows the 4 applications that i use with internet + Direct Push that checks email from microsoft server + Android OS in the list as well. I guess all the stuff going on "behind my back" is packed into Android OS. What tool do you suggest ?
There is "restrict background data" option. But when i select it - i get the warning that some apps will not work unless connected to wifi. The last part of this warning indicates to me that Aroid Os will still send the data. But only when connected to wifi. And i dont want it ever to send any data. Why would any data be sent to google server ? I disabled all synchronisation with google ...
You could also use the tool network monitor https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmm.networkmonitor which wrote by my friend. It could find which application using your network. And could display the peer address.
I think some google application such as gtalk service are connecting google server background. No choice.

Hello everyone. I am sorry for my crappy english even if I did not wrote my first sentence yet.
I live in Lithuania and here, in my country my mobile network operator offers free Facebook browsing for everyone. You just turn on data connection on your android and you ready to go. You can do everything you want in facebook completely for free: watch videos, chat, upload something. Speeds are really good (now you can even use 4G if your phone deals with it). If you want to browse youtube or google (or anything else) you need to pay then.
Yesterday I noticed that you can chat for free on "messenger" app too. I think it is because "messenger" connect thru the same facebook port or something (I dont know, im bad at these technologies). Anyways, my question would be: is there any way to use browser connected thru that facebook port or something? So my operator would think I just browsing in facebook while I would browse google or something else? Is there a way to configure mobile or just a browser to work like that?
I not really use mobile internet often, because I have wifi, but this is realy interesting.
Anyone got an a answer ?
