is it possible to have 2 nandroid backups? I want to have my original stock ROM saved and my current modaco one saved so I can flash the new 5.3 villain.

lol the only limitation to the amount of nandroid backups is the size of your sdcard... and even if it is full you can move them to your pc.
ok thanks but how do I make sure when I back up using my recovery image I dint overwrite my old one? it doesn't give me an option to create a new one.

have you looked at the backup? it is named by the options, the date and the time of the backup. so unless you create two backups at the exact same time (which you can't) or you manipulate your clock (which you won't) you won't be overwriting anything...
Hello! I didn't know where else to post, so I did it here. Please relocate this topic if it is in the incorrect place because I don't know any better.
Anyway. I've installed AK Notepad on my old ROM and did a Nandroid. I have only one note in there which I'd like to extract. I have extracted the data.img and system.img on my PC and I can find the .apk, but I can't find that one note that was written in there. Is there a way to find it? Or maybe if I can't extract the note, can I copy the settings somewhere in my phone so the AK Notepad will act as if it is that one on the old ROM where I wrote that note?
Um, why don't you just make a new backup, then restore the backup with the note, email or text the note or whatever, then restore your new backup you made, shouldn't take more than ten minutes.

pretty sure Titanium Backup also lets you install things from nandroid backups. Not sure it it's apps (or apps + data only) or if it'll let you do "data only" restores. But if you've already got it installed, might be worth a shot.
I am a newb here but learn fast so... Situation is, I have moved to Cyanogenmod9 and love it. I have done a lot of tweaking and arranging to my liking and am tired of all that. Problem is I need the info written on Snote files in the original ObjectionICS backup. Can I get inside that backup and extract those files or do I have to revert back to that backup, write down the Snote info I need, and then go back to the future..lol...and reinstall the backup I am making now, of C9? Also, will my "recovery mode" back up to internal sd card...return EVERYTHING to how it is now? I mean like disc image identical? Or will I have to reimport contacts, assign wallpapers, lockscreen widgets etc etc etc? Also, am I correct in making it back up "to internal sd card"? or should I have just hit yes to the first menu item "backup"??? Sorry if I'm being confusing or stoopid....

If you used CWM Recovery to backup before you went to CM9 then I believe you can backup as it would only backup applications and settings of said applications also backing up system data like sms mms emails contacts etc..
I would really suggest checking out TitaniumBackup Root Pro
I would also suggest that you also get these apps as to help facilitate better tools for backing up stuff, managing roms, and just all around must need applications for your android phone.
ClockworkMod Recovery Pro as it allows you to switch ROMs and works good with TitaniumBackup.
root explorer file manager the best file manager i know of for android allows you to easily move files around the file system and change file permissions also checkout link2sd for linking installing apps to external sd and easy switching of applications to and from internal and external storage.

I backed up all my apps using Go Backup, so there's now about 500MB worth of files all waiting to be restored. The reason I did the backup was that I was to flash a new ROM, which I did.
However, upon reinstalling Go Backup, I found that it doesn't recognize my backed up files anymore compared to the previous days I used it. Researching about the issue I soon realized that the problem is encountered my numerous people, all of whom losing their files because of Go Backup's inability to recognize files from their last update.
I tried installing Pro and the previous versions, but it wasn't successful.
Yes, I can install the apk files one by one, but that would be quite a hassle whenever I'd flash a new ROM. Anyone can help us on this one?

EDIT: So I tried reinstalling each apk with their corresponding tar files. Turns out there are some that can't be installed, the games. Agent Dash and Subway Surfr apks, for instance, would give me the message: there was a problem parsing the package. I guess I need Go Backup after all.

I've faced this before and i lost a lot of data because of Go backup. I was forced to move to a much better alternative such as MyBackup Pro or if you're rooted then you can use Titanium Backup no backup application can beat Titanium!
Yeah, in the end I had to abandon my save files.

Hey I think I found a fix for ya. I just went through the same thing. I flashed a ROM and boom! I can't update jack even though all my data was on my external sd card. Uber gay. But here's a quick step by step:
1. Download and load gobackup
2. Make a backup of anything at all. It can be 1k of stuff for all i care.
3. Go to gobackup and check the settings you should see the file path (or something similar to it) /storage/sdcard0/GObackup/Allbackup
4. In any event check the path (this/that/sdcard/blahblahblah...) and make sure you have that Allbackup at the end. That's why you did step 2 is to get that folder loaded.
5. However you'd like, I used root explorer to copy and paste it, or you can simply use the USB funtion, but find the gobackup file in your external sd, pick out your backup and place it in the Allbackup folder mentioned in steps 3 and 4. And voila! Open gobackup and it'll be there. I hope it works for you to.

didn't work for me either.
I can see it all mnt/emmc/gobackup/allbackup/newbackup
this is the path the app refers to at its base - but cannot restore from it
guys does not worket for me either im so mad right now!!!!

after flashing new ROM, i made a new backup (from 1 sms, 1 contact and 1 call log that i make me).
then rename old backup to name of new backup, after delete the new backup in file manager. (Ex. "2013-09-12_16-30-18_sms.dat" to "2013-09-14_02-50-09_sms.dat"
and restore new backup in Go backup that contain old data!

thanks it fixed my problem too,
just note that after rename old data to new data name,
in go backup app , stiil it shows 1 sms record and not shows (for example 500 old sms records) but when you click restore 1 sms record ,
it restore all 500 sms from old backup that renamed to new backup name.:good:

Hi all,
I have a number of paid and other apps I want to make a physical backup with on my computer. I'd like to try to figure out what the .apk filename is, but the filenames are confusing and not relevant to the app that they represent. I have a Titanium backup as well as a nandroid backup, but again the filenames are not intuitive enough to figure out, and the nandroid backup is a gigantic 900mb compressed image.
That said, is there a way to figure out which filename.apk relates to which actual app?

I'm not sure exactly how to do this, but I'm curious why you need a backup on a computer? Your purchase history is stored by Google, and apps can be re-downloaded any time you need. APK names are a mixed bag...kind of whatever the developer wants. There's probably info out there for each app, though.
