HD2 aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.
My HD2 hangs with white screen (htc central and written in red lettering below left) and remains so.
I tried them all (task29 - soft reset - restore the original ROM from SD) but nothing worked.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Don´t know, what´s going wrong. If you have done task29, you can go into bootloader mode and connect your HD2 to your PC. If you read USB, you can flash a ROM over PC. I prefer an energy rom, which is running fast and is offered in many languages. If you have done task29, i think the drivers of the sd card weren´t loaded, so you can´t flash a rom from there.
Bootloader Mode: Remove your accu, then mount it in it´s place. Press the Vol Down button, hold it, press short the right Button under the screen (power) and leave it, hold the Vol Down button, until a three colored screen appears. This is the bootloader. There stands Serial. If you connect it tothe PC, there must stand USB. Now you can flash a rom of your choice by double click on the RUU.exe file.
PS: Please use other headlines for a thread, more expressive.

How much more expressive in the title can one get? put Grrrrr behind the title?
I think you mean explain yourself a bit better in the title.
[/OFFTOPIC]
As to the problem:
We need more specifics:
Can you enter bootloader(not eplicitly mentioned).
Does your computer see your phone?
which version (H)SPL is presented on the bootloader screen?
Which ROM do you want to flash?
Is CustomRUU running?
Is CustomRUU hanging / crashing / finishing? [if so where, which %-age?]
Have you removed SIM and microSD cards?
Please post the sequence of steps and their "exit state [ie successfull / not successfull]"
When do you notice the [problem?

Now I installed the original SPL 1.42.0000 and the original ROM from SD, but the device does not start. remains with white screen and red lettering at the bottom left.
I tried 4 or 5 different ROMs, I tried several soluioni.
I think the only way is to restore the BIOS in some way, but I do not know how.

throw it in da wheelie bin

dead lobby
You've probably either sorted this by now or binned the phone but I thought I'd post anyway as it may help others.
You don't describe what you mean by dead but have you tried hard reset?
WITH PHONE SWITCHED OFF (in your case remove and replace the battery)
1. Press and hold soft1 and soft2 keys (i.e. menu keys).
2. Press and hold power button for around 1 to 1.5 seconds. Release power button. Keep holding both soft keys.
3. After a while, black screen should show instructions asking user to press '0' key to reset to factory default.
4. Press '0' within the timeout period (which is very brief).
5. If instructions don't appear on the screen, repeat steps 1 to 4.
You have to flash it using it's original rom (for locked device).
but if you phone is CID UNLOCKED you can flash it using ROMIUPDATE. just put the phone in bootloader mode and run the RUU Update.

Hello folks. The friend of mine has screwed up his Lobster, and now he wants to take a dump from another one. The problem is, mtty says r2sd command is unknown... he tried to issue password command, but we don't know the peoper password.
Does anyone have the proper password for bootloader? Or better... does anyone have a rom dump? It'd be appreciated...

I've found this link...
ftp://koxoguest:[email protected]/sp/rom/Lobster_700_tv_os.rar
Its supposed to be the ROM for the lobster. I however cant get it to work as my lobster is stuck on a white screen during boot and cannot get into Activesync. Can anyone advise How i can get into Bootloader mode? I have tried holding Camera key but to no avail...
try taking out the battery, then heating the back of the phone for a while
I did that on my brother's phone(his Lobster "died" the same way) on a sunny day leaving it to heat up for about 30 minutes of sunshine
after that put the battery in and try booting again
OMG......
you can say it clearly
are you update the rom?
if so ,may be the word storage is broken

is there anyway to unbrick a G4 wizard?
There are many ways.
But please tell us more about symptoms ?
Bricked how ?
What is on screen ?
i was just asking just incase i brick my phone.
when it is 'bricked', there is no way. It is like, when a person is 'dead' there is no way of reviving him/her. 'Bricked' is a terminal word, it may goes deeper as the gurus here find deeper ways to revive a unit.

Jesus might beg to differ... but I ain't arguing!
BOWLOFO:
If you read the sticky thread at top of this forum, you will see how to remove the bootloader from a ROM before you load it.
This means that if a upload goes wrong and you can't get it load normally (eg it might LOOK "bricked"), you can always initialise the loader, an bring it back to life again! (eg it wasn't "bricked" after all.).
"Bricked" literally means = turned into a brick = useful only as a paperweight!
I guess some cases that look like they are "bricked", are actually just a case of needing greater skill to bring alive again.
If you are careful to follow ALL the instructions in that thread, then you should be OK, as there should always be a way to bring it back to life from any "brick-esque" situations.
Is that what "resurrection" means.....
Mike

Find out how to enter to Wizard boot mode (Tri-color bootloader screen)
1.Turn your device off
2.Hold the Camera button in and push the power button for 2 seconds
...you should get the 3 color bar screen
3.Plug your usb cable in to the phone
Hope I can revive my device...
KC
This looks good to me.
BTW It seems like you can access the bootloader by different key combination + reset, if we except the CommManager + Voice Record + Reset combination wich is intended to make a full format of the user area.
So I'm used to make a Mail + Photo + Reset combination (keep Mail + Photo pushed until magic screen appears).
Once you're in bootloader mode (Rainbow screen), Activesync won't launch synchronisation as the device is no longer identified as a Pocket PC, better ready to be loaded with a new OS.
Oh one thing. If you're stucked somewhere in the boot process and want to revert to a stable version, make sure you use an official release.
It would be nonsense to try to revive a bad upgrade with another one...

Blank bootloader...am I screwed?

I have searched and searched these forums and have seen several other people with this problem but no solution. I have also looked through the wiki to no avail, so if someone can give me an answer I would really appreciate it.
I have been able to get into the bootloader screen (the r-g-b white stripes) however there is NO text (no serial, no usb) on the screen and it is not recognized by any pc. Can't get any response from mtty.exe because it can't see the USB port. Have tried on multiple PC's...
Is there another way to resurrect this athena or is it DOA?
Thanks,

Yes...no joy.
Just stays on the tri-color screen with no indication that it is reading the card.
Thanks for the advice though!
Did you try resetting - camera button and reset button on the back (I think...) pressed together.

Yes, tried the hard reset (camera + reset) the alternate reset (comm + camera + reset) and even the other reset (volume slider + camera + reset). And yes, I was pushing down firmly on the camera button.
Each reset brings me to the tri-color bootloader screen with NO text. No model number, no OS version, no "USB" / "Serial"....just the red-gree-blue-white stripes.
I have looked extensively at all the forums, used the google search for the site and combed the wiki with no luck.
So do you think it is a lost case?

I was trying to load a new ROM but I assumed that I had to use the OliPro unlock first.
Got to the radio flash and that is where it crapped out.
Now that I have read a little more carefully it looks like I don't need to use the OliPro beyond the first step for the stateside unlocked 7501.
Thanks,

when your on bootloader ? does windows detect a usb generic device ?
Nope. Tried 3 different PCs. Shut down all the activesync processes. No luck. No detection that anything is cabled to the advantage.
I am thinking that it is warranty time.
Damn, I hate this....its just the principle of the thing...

Key rule to remember is to always make sure the Advantage is Fully charged. Try charinging it and reflashing it with the factory rom, located here. http://www.america.htc.com/download/RUU_Athena_HTC_US_2.19.453.4_105_1.47.51.00_Ship.exe. Keep us posted and let us know how it went
have you removed the sim and memory card
just checking basics
try that with a full charge and then enter bootloader and connect to usb
Thanks for all the help! I gave up and warrantied a new unit where I WAS successful in loading a new ROM.
I have learned several valuable lessons in the ROM upgrade process. This was on an advantage 7501, unlocked, USA version. I did the upgrade the process with the OliPro 3.0 unlocker, the PK Rom 3.0 and vista pro (32bit):
- Make sure that you have NOT customized your athena/advantage beyond the basic calibration and cut/paste walkthrough.
-Download ONLY THE MOST RECENT VERSION OF THE OLIPRO UNLOCKER. CHECK TWICE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE LATEST.
-You MUST let step one of the Unlock complete. With the latest version this will make a bricked Advantage practically impossible.
-Go through step 2 & 3 even if you don't think you need this. It will upgrade the radio and give you peace of mind if you are updating to the PK rom.
-Don't panic if you complete step 1 and goof step 2/3. You can recover. But if you screw up the initial SPL unlock in step1...it is not going to be pretty.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for everyones advice!

Problem trying to remove HSPL?...need help please.

Hello there,
I installed Hspl a few days ago on my Virgin HD2 and have tried a few custom roms on it but i am sure this phone is faulty as it randomly crashes on all the roms i have tested.
My brother received this phone also and he has tried the custom roms and his is fine so i am planning on sending it back for an exchange.
I have read the instructions for uninstaling Hspl and watched the video so i downloaded the rom from the official HTC site and extracted the RUU_signed.nbh and renamed it to LEOIMG.nbh but when i hold the volume button down and press power on to load the LEOIMG.nbh off the memory card...it gets to the loading screen then shows me the screen with the SPL-1.42.HSPL on it.
I am a Noob so i am probably doing something wrong
Can anybody help me out please?
Thanks.
You need a GoldCard. You can not only put the "LEOIMG.nbh" on it. It will not work. Create a GoldCard, follow the instruduction and it will work fine.

Your wrong... If he has HSPL, which he has, he can simply put the "leoimg.nbh" on the root on the memory card... Then, while turning it on, hold down the "volume down" button... That's what's HSPL is for...Remember to format the memory card in fat32... If you don't it won't work... The card that comes with the HD2 is formatted in fat16... Use fat32!
Edit:
Here is the "official" guide:
4) Uninstallation
Only way to remove the HSPL is to flash an original SPL from SD card.
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
But again... Remember to format your sd card in fat32.
Hello,
Thanks for the replies.
My card is formatted to Fat 32.....i switch the phone off then hold down on the volume then press power on...first the screen shows me the SPL-1.42.HSPL then "Loading" shows then it shows the SPL-1.42.HSPL again.
The words serial sometimes show at the bottom of the screen.
Do i need to hold or release the volume and power buttons for any length of time?
It looks like i was holding on to the volume down button too long.
Thanks for the help.

Hi
Do a hard reset
Take 2gb card and format fat32 and download the rom from htc site using your serial number because You got the HD2 from Virgin uk means that it is factory unlocked and unbranded.
Extract the downloaded rom and rename the RUU signed nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh and put it into the root of the card
Now remove the battery put the card in the hd2
Press and HOLD the Vol down button until you see the bootloader
Then follow the screen
I hope this will work
Good luck

you can only install your authorised telestra ROM via HTC's stock RUU.exe without hspl. Perhaps do a [REQ] thread for the ROm to be posted by someone who can dump it.

Say again please?
You need stock (only stock) SD 2GB Card that was with your phone.
After you found it, you need to download shipped rom from HTC official site for your region.
Then you have to open the .exe file with winrar and after it you have to unpack "RUU_Signed.nbh" to your SD card and rename it into "LEOIMG.nbh".
Then reload your phone with pressed "volume down".
And then you will follow instructions.
P.S. Sorry for my English, I am from Russia.
I have the same issue as mentioned above, i've used both the standard SD card that came with the phone and an alternative SD card that i know works and both have the Tricolour theme and serial at the bottom..
Any ideas driving me mad

Hi,
I have been having the same problem. I could really appreciate your help.
I need to remove HSPL from the phone as I have sold the phone & don't want to void warranty.
I Followed what Mskips thread said but still could not do it.
I have copied the NBH file from stock rom, renamed it LEOIMG.NBH & copied it to route of memory card that I formatted with FAT32.
Put the memory card in phone, held down the Volume Down button for three seconds & then held down the power button.
I would get the tricoloured screen with HardSPL info but nothing else would happen.
Some one on the forum said try formatting it FAT16 & see if that makes a difference. I tried this & I got slightly further, after the tricolour screens comes up I get a white screen that seize loading but nothing happen after that.
I tried letting go off the Volume button as soon as you see the tricoloured screen, but I am not getting any further i.e. flashing instructions.
Would really appreciate if you could help & tell me what roms etc you used so I can get this done.
This has been lingering for a few days now I have to post item on Tuesday
Please help
Thanks

How long should it stay in loading mode??? i have a white screen with loading... at the top...it has been like this for 30min
in order to uninstall hspl to your phone....you need to know your original Stock rom....you should have backed up your original Stock rom before playing with your expensive phone....

You do need to hard reset, and (no disrespect) I suspect you're doing it wrong. Turn off the phone completely, then hold down both volume buttons and just press the power button briefly (don't hold the power button, but continue holding both volume buttons).
You'll then be given on-screen instructions that I can't remember as it's been so long since I've done it.
thx for your reply but it still doesnt work it says restore complete... vol up to reboot or something. After i reboot it. im still stuck on white screen and green HTC words
If it doesn't even boot after a hard reset then I think it needs replacing mate. It sounds irreparably damaged.
Is it new? Have you had it for a while and this just started happening? If so, what was the last thing you installed or flashed?

Leo_RADIO_15.28.50.07U_2.05.50.11 **(from TMOUS 2.01) on xda forums will it do?
thanx
flash from bootloader, no need for windows mobile to be running.
that radio is a test radio, and isn't a high enough version for what you need(if the radio is indeed the problem)
look in the radio thread and go for somethin like 2.10.50.x
thx for your reply... but unfortunately i dunno how to do that bootloader thingy i think im just gonna send it back to taiwan and get someone to fix it for me. because i tried in sydney it cost 200 dollars just for them to check wats wrong

Click to collapse
yea its pretty difficult,
phone off
press hold and keep holding voldown
tap and release power
when bootloader appears, connect usb
wait 20 seconds
run your flash on the pc
i can see how you would struggle with such a difficult process
haha problem is it doesnt recongise my device
hey you have to change you spl from 1.42 to 2.08 using hspl4 or hspl2.then only you can flash custom rom or roll back to stock rom .hope this would help.
