Tasker - can someone help me with this? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I have been using Tasker for a while now, and I really love it.
I just have one problem that I can't seem to figure out.
I want it to kill eBuddy when I'm near my house, and want to run it when I leave my house.
Now, I have the following profile already set up:
If location (home) --> Kill app (eBuddy).
But, how can I make it turn ON eBuddy when I leave house? So, If location (not home) --> Run app (eBuddy).
Is this even possible?
Thanks in advance!

Is all this time and effort really easier than just pressing a shortcut?
You are bucking the trend my friend, most people are obsessing about stopping apps running lol

I'm just asking if it's possible, and if so, how?

The Kill doesn't work for me in Tasker - need to somehow "logout" ...

How should the phone know, when you enter your workplace. There has to be some kind of trigger and in fact i dont really think that it is that hard to open the settings and turn wifi on. Create a shortcut or use an unofficial rom f.e. TW mod there you can switch wifi on in the drop down bar.

I think Juice Defender Ultimate has a feature that uses the gps to do that.

Yes the iphone has that app...so Android should also. Thats what apps are there for...to make our lives easier.
Was mentioned in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1177372 that roll out will start this weekend.
But what is the trigger for your workplace? Should the wifi turn on 30mins after you say “‘til later honey!“ or what? GPS is more battery expensive than its worth. Tell me how the phone should know when you are at work?

Found a solution already?
Else try Llama from KebabApps. It uses the cell locations for finding your position. No GPS is needed. Can switch a lot of things beside WiFi. Also time dependant tasks are possible.
Honestly I used it some time ago. But my workplace is too near to my home. So it never knew exactly where I am ;-)

thanx, i installed "tasker", still havent figured out yet how it works

Another vote for llama. Tasker is much more powerful, but I found llama more useful because it was so simple. The developer has been adding features and improving performance and respond to emails promptly. I really need to buy it already.

I use "WeFi - Automatic WiFi" (NO, no typo! It's with an "e"...), free in the Market.
It makes a Wifi-connection in places that u assign as "always log in here"....
Works fine for me!

Ok, so I'm new to Tasker I will admit, but has anyone successfully setup theirs to turn off 4g when the screen is off?, or off unless a certain app is open? thanks

[Q] how to keep GPS active when phone goes to sleep?

Does anyone know a way to keep GPS running when the phone goes to sleep? There are times when I want to have my location continuously reported to Google Latitude, and it's a terrible waste of battery to keep the screen running just to do that.
I'd thought there would be an easy answer to this, but I'm not finding one. There's a two-year-old XDA post on this question here without any real answers. And I found a post elsewhere that suggests that Tasker can make the phone keep GPS working when the screen goes off, but I don't see any function in Tasker for this.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks, Alan

I found Tasker sucked the hell out of my battery, but nevermind... It depends on the app some of them will just pull GPS data when it is asked for, which im sure Latitude would do... What are you trying to achieve exactly?
EDIT: If you do try Tasker you can set it so certain apps will activate the GPS and certain screen times, hours of the day etc...
Thanks! I'm trying to find a way for Google Latitude (which I think just runs within maps) to record my path via GPS (say when I'm on a hiking trip) without the screen needing to be on constantly, which is the only way I've found to do that so far. But if you are saying that I can make a tasker profile which will tell my phone to keep the GPS on when Maps is running, then I think that would solve this! Or do you have a better approach in mind?

Sorry to bump this, but I thought you might like this better if you want to keep your GPS receiver always on when your screen is off (will drain your battery of course)

GPSTracker Lite, specifically made for what its name is. It tracks your path. I use it in my car, in which case the phone is always on the charger when this is running.
Hope this helped.

Things id like to change

Maybe there are fixes for my issues. As I am new to android I'm not sure how to get them corrected. Here's a list. Maybe someone can land a hand.
How to keep screen on while on a charger.
How to make the GPS turn on and off when app starts and finishes.
How to set so it can detect a known wifi source, then activate wifi.
How to get the long lasting battery results everyone seems to be getting.
How to set the email app to open to the emails versus the screen to select which account to view as I have multiple accounts set up.
How to keep the lockscreen front turning off 3 seconds after I hit the wake button but not swiping to unlock.
That's about it for now. I come from an iphone ecosystem and am used to a few features my JB iphone provides. I'm sure ill have more "how to" questions.
Thank you all for the responses!

Screen setting to never off. And honestly, why the hell do you want the screen always on while charging? I charge mine when I'm not using it.

Stop doing stupid **** on your phone. Your battery wont last 20 hours if you use if heavily. Don't tell me your icrap did either. My wife says battery is ridiculous on her Skyrocket compared to her icrap 4
How to set the email app to open to the emails versus the screen to select which account to view as I have multiple accounts set up.
Depends on what email app you are using. Also, click the little icon in your notification dropdown. Brings you to the mail just received
How to keep the lockscreen front turning off 3 seconds after I hit the wake button but not swiping to unlock.
dunno... doesn't bother me. It takes me less than 3 seconds to come to a decision on what the hell I want to do
How to resize the widgets
What launcher are you using? Touchwiz only lets you resize certain Samsung widgets.

Sounds like you are very new to Android, so you have normal questions. First thing it to figure out what the settings for your phone do. Theres always the Samsung forums for asking about your specific device also. I'm not sorry if that all sounds harsh. It was meant to. icrappers turning Android annoy me. There's an amazing app called Tasker that will do a lot of your wish list. It's all about contexts - e.g. "on external power" "App {x} is in the foreground." It's the best ~$6 you'll ever spend, and never want to have another phone with out it. Almost all of it's awesome functions work without root, too.

Thanks for the support. If I came from a walled garden, then why would I expect these functions that should be so easy to do. I have gone through the settings and came to the conclusion I needed help. Hence this post. If you can't help, I understand. Not everyone has that type of intelligence.

Juice defender is a placebo...
I bought it when I was on eclair... it made a difference there... though not much
However froyo up... android does a better job on its own...
Think about it... running a program that is on all the time to "save" battery?
Sent from my MB508 using Tapatalk
As to you wanting the lockscreen to stay on longer, there are several lockscreen replacements you could use. I'm not sure which ones have the option besides widgetlocker though. With widgetlocker, you can set the lockscreen timeout to various durations. I know it worked on my infuse, not sure about the note though.
The downside is that it costs a couple bucks and it will drain your battery a bit if I remember correctly because it keeps the device in a wakelock and does not allow deep sleep. Its not a huge battery drain, but it does some. However, if the timeout is more important than a tiny amount of battery drain, I suggest doing that.

I have noticed an improvement using JD and that's actual not placebo. I get your point though on an app that runs to save battery. But whatever its doing, its working better than whatever I'm doing without it.

[Q] scheduled lock screen

Hi. :fingers-crossed:
I'm looking for an app I've have not found until now :
I'm student with a known planning. I'd like my phone automatically locks screen after a certain amount of time when I'm in course (Of course,I know how to do this). But when I am not at school I'd like my phone does not locks his screen.
Do you know an app doing that?
Thank you.

Check out the app Tasker, using that you can create a profile to customize lockscreen timeout depending on time, location etc. You might even be able to find a tasker profile that already does this online.
