G2 or Vibrant? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Speed wise, which device do you think is speedier? For gaming and every day use etc. I know the G2 isn't even out but the specs are out there and from what people tell me, the 800mhz processor acts as a dual core snap dragon, so is it faster than the Hummingbird?

Till we get ahold of the g2 we can only speculate

Not quite, actually it is just a single core snapdragon clocked at 800mhz with a better GPU than the first gen snapdragon, so really the only difference for the most part is a hardware keyboard and stock Android 2.2
Harware wise both phones are on par with the Vibrant still having a slight edge(better GPU and extra 200mhz)

I know I am just saying it acts like a speedy snapdragon.... Looks nice though and I sorta wish I waited for the G2 now lol
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk

i had the option to wait for g2 or upgrade to vibrant, i went with vibrant purely because of the super-amoled, as oppsed to the s-lcd on the g2

Lol honestly I cannot say this should be the selling point of the device, maybe the screen size, but I didn't get this device for videos, although I have to say it does look nice
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk

I think they'd be pretty similar speedwise despite the drop in clockspeed, so the real question is whether you want a hardware keyboard or a great looking screen.

I own the Vibrant and have used the G2. They are both fantastic devices and you can't go wrong with either one. That said the Vibrant edges is out slightly. The G2 is a snappy device with only the 800mhz core but its running 2.2 so thats were it gets its speed. The screen is a lot better on the Vibrant and the Vibrant has more storage. IMO if you must have a keyboard get the G2 otherwise get the Vibrant.

theres a million post just like this both phones are awesome if you wanna go for spec for spec i would say i777 is better only by a tiny bit not much better but if you wanna go software to software the Nexus is going to be better and also have more support for roms and development
Adam Outler in another thread mentioned Nexus S is actually a quad core, two for remedial tasks and two for hardcore processing like games. Sounds like the winner to me.

The Gnex is a dual-core for its CPU. The "quad core" mess is if you include the DSPs, which only those a**holes hawking chinese tablets claim. Anyone repectable will call it a dual-core.
Heck, by that math my Prime is an Octo-core.
Simply put, the Gnex is about the same CPU-wise as the SGS2, but the SGS2's GPU dominates the Gnex. In trade, the Gnex has a technically better screen, but I wouldn't trade because I HATE Pentile screens. Also the Gnex lacks a SD card slot.
SGS II: Better CPU, GPU, camera
Galaxy Nexus: Better software, better screen, updates straight from google

HTC Jet??

So who is going to jump on this or jump to the Nexus LTE?

What would you possibly want with a quad core? Benchmark swag?
So long as the technology in dual core has taken a step forward this device will be just fine.
And to stay on topic,I'll be getting both.

Krait runs circles around quad core tegra 3, only problem is the gpu is an overclocked adreno 220, but it will be a damn fine phone, and as long as sprint has the buy your upgrade back, I will be getting this phone

Ugh...
I've been COMPLETELY sold on the Sprint GN, but I have a June 1st upgrade, and if this release date is concrete for the One X/Jet/EVO LTE, I might have a decision on my hands
So if the cpu chip isnt compatible with LTE here and thats why Europe is getting I wonder if it will be compatible next year? Hhmmm....either way I'm excited about the display!
Really? A Dual core?
And no, It's not about benchmark swag. Its about it actually being a worthy upgrade. Why am I going to buy a phone thats barely an upgrade? A slightly faster cpu, a slightly faster gpu, and the same amount of RAM? No thanks.
My next phone will have a 1.5ghz quad core, a way faster gpu, and 2gb of ram or its not worth dropping a dime on to me.

And the second someone actually shows me what you can do with a quad core phone that you cant do with a dual core phone then ill be inclined to share your thoughts on quad core..What are the real life comparisons? What is the benefit other than saying "I have a quad core phone"
Its just a phone for god sakes,i just dont understand the fascination with going crazy over quad core in a phone.
Right now i have a gs2. I dont see me giving up this phone anytime soon. I have 2 eligible upgrades ive been savin. But normally if you sell your phone on craigslist then buy another on craigs list you pay less then what the upgrade would cost a new customer. Sold evo for 220...paid 350 for brand new white gs2. still no removable battery or storage so I'll probably still pass.
Paid retail on the EVO 3D to hold me for another year on my contract so won't be buying a new phone till next year with my upgrade and by then there will be something better. But seems like a worthy upgrade.
Although I am a 3D nut in a sense so I would miss that a lot (but that's just me)

That said, I may still wait to upgrade until I see how much support my next phone gets. The new version of sense is the most hideous I've ever seen an HTC phone look...definitely don't wanna be stuck with that.

While there is no mention of storage or battery the article states LTE as being the only difference. Had battery and/or storage been changed it would be a pretty big deal and mentioned. I hope I'm wrong but don't hold your breath that HTC decided to make those changes only for Sprint when LTE is the single necessary alteration for the CDMA LTE roll out.

You guys need to take some time and do some research on what your talking about...
neither of you mentioned the fact that the screen is HUGELY improved, dedicated ImageChip, and besides the whole point both of you are not grasping the fact of how much better the S4 chip's are than the S3's...If this doesn't satisfy an upgrade b/c of the SoC then you'll be left waiting till '13 when Qualcomm pushes their 28nm quads...
fact is the SoC mentioned in this device is a huge upgrade to the current one in the EVO3D...
If this was a Tegra3 would you consider it an upgrade??? If you say yes then you are greatly miss-leaded by the facts of the SoC's themselves b/c there is sooo much more than just the # of cores...28nm vs 40nm, integrated modems vs not, and a bunch more...

Should there be a Photon sequel?

In my opinion, why not? The phone was a success last year, why not have a successor? If the Photon Q manages to be real, my desired specs are:
4.3" inch HD display
1.2 GHz dual core Tegra 3 processor
Android 4
8MP cam, 4MP front face both with 1080p video capture.
1GB ram. 1GB rom.
The same design as OG, but sleeker with much better battery life.
What would you want it to have?

This plus ICS. I think 1GB RAM is enough but more couldn't hurt.
I use the us cellular version, the electrify, just a rebadged photon and love it. An electrify II could go slightly larger screen, quad core processor, small bump to 1.5GB or better2gb! Thinner, sleeker body, maybe the same battery as Droid razr maxx... Anytime a more powerful battery could be applied. Who could complain!? And ICS or jellybean installed and no motoblur ui.... Just straight up Android so no rooting would even be required

Yep
The only good thing I can say about my Photon is it has a good radio. For everything else, it sucks. The screen sensitivity for gaming blows, the phone is laggy as hell.. sometimes Ill push something on the screen and it may take 3-8 seconds to recognize I pushed anything.
Ive tried tuning it with various methods and its de-blurred now which helped A LITTLE. I tried V6 Supercharger, Rom Toolbox, overclocked the processor, etc... it still sucks.
I almost bailed on Sprint and went to Verizon when they were winding down their unlimited data. I wish I had. I stayed for the Epic 4G Touch and what a disappointment that turned out to be.
There's something wrong with your phone. I had a photon that the screen was like that, I had it replaced and the new one is great.

Interesting find. Though I am disappointed at how Verizon and HTC are handling the whole incredible series. It has become a budget phone, with the qHD resolution, 1.2 GHz S4 processor and all when other phones are touting HD resolution and 1.5 GHz processors. I hope this is priced at $199 because $299 will be WAY too much for this given that it will be outclassed soon. Well, it at least has the latest processor, albeit underclocked, unlike the dinc2...

Hopefully the price does reflect the lower clock speed and screen size, but I'm hoping that the no-so-large screen and underclocked cpu results in some great battery life

Disappointed with the qHD screen... I would've liked to see a 720p S-LCD like on the HTC One series.

And pushing fewer pixels might even make the phone even more responsive. Who knows. I don't mind the smaller screens and the screen resolution bump is about all that could be expected.
LTE is a deal breaker for me. Phone will be in the same situation as the Rezound and not have AOSP. I'd imagine battery life would be terrible as well, wouldn't be a HTC otherwise.

[Q] snapdragon s4 V.S Exynos 4212

i'm thinking of getting the Galaxy s3 but i'm having a bit of trouble deciding which one. before i continue i would like to sate a couple factor :
I have att, 3gb of data
I live in New York so i have LTE coverage everywhere
i barely use data for anything other than downloading an app, browsing the web, or watching something on youtube
i'm a major gamer so thats were getting the international one with its Exynos chip v.s the us one with snapdragon s4
So a couple of questions i wanted to ask you guys was:
Does 1gb vs 2gb of ram really make a difference and improve speed, i don't multitask a lot just like 2 or 3 apps
how good is the snapdragons 4 actually?( Give your opinion, and if you ever had lag when you used it)
How good is the snapdragon s4 for gaming, ex. GTA3, Max Payne, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, N.O.V.A 3, and if the games ever felt laggy or a little glitchy?
Also they are more developers for the international version
thanks in advance
If you are not worried too much about the LTE speeds than your best bet is i9300. Exynos 4 Quad is definitely better for gaming ... I have the AT&T variant just because I wanted to have unlimited 4G plan (grandfathered unlimited 3G upgraded to unlimited 4G now).
Also, if u have ORD then i9300 is the best choice hands down. I can speak from my own experience when I chose to get i9100 over local US variants. The amount of developer support for the international models is mind boggling. You don't get that much support (as quickly) for the US variants.
So better gaming, better developer support. I would say go for i9300 ... Hope this helps.

I have the US version and I game quite a bit. I frequently play Max Payne, Shadow gun, Dead trigger and GTA3. I don't experience any lag what so ever. I couldn't make this thing lag if I wanted to. The 2Gs of RAM makes a world of difference IMO.

For ME the development alone is the biggest reason why i went for the international, we have so many recognized devs working on so many ROM's and its nice to get the first updates as soon as they come. The quad core is a bonus, as i have never seen a hint of lag or stutter on this thing. The 2gb of ram vs 1gb of ram isnt really that big of a deal to me, phones run perfectly fine on 1gb but 2gb is awesome too. This is why i chose the I9300, its different for everybody but i love this beast.
I come to these forums a lot to see what the US version has cooking and so far it looks like things are getting ready to pick up! Task and Ktoonz (sp?) are awesome devs.
If the $600 is out of your budget, then the convo is done. I mean what else do you need people to say?
Please don't take me being blunt, for rudeness.

I have the US version and I game quite a bit. I frequently play Max Payne, Shadow gun, Dead trigger and GTA3. I don't experience any lag what so ever. I couldn't make this thing lag if I wanted to. The 2Gs of RAM makes a world of difference IMO.

THANK YOU, I have been trying to see if the us version had lag, that was my main concern, looks like I'll be getting the us versoin, or get it and sell it, then from the money I make I could get the international versoin. Thanks to everyone that helped me make my decision

No problem. Trust me, your going to love it. You probably won't even want to sell it for the international version. The US version handles everything just fine. In fact, tests have shown where the S4 processor actually performed faster in some situations. Most phones can't even utilize 4 threads yet. Put simply, you get all the performance of the quad-core (and then some), plus amazing battery life. We've seen video proof of the performance. With the S4 Qualcomm has introduced a new architecture, and it's cutting edge. It's based on the same instruction set as the new ARM A15 processors, which gives it a significant advantage over it's competitors. It will do tasks faster, and more efficiently than the rest of the current generation hardware. So performance is just as good overall and battery life should be better.

Don't believe everything you hear the s4 chip is a beast. Not as good as the sammy quad but i say better than tegra. Either way a duel core phone going toe to toe with either of theses processors speak for itself. It's a notice different from last generation duel core. It handles games without a hitch battery life omg all day long . This phone isn't perfect but it's Pretty darn close. I own the evo 4g lte with the s4 chip and it runs sense4 like butter no lag get the phone enjoy it. Development isn't where the international version is because the rest of the world78% to be exact got the same phone and little usa has to have there altered to work with lte. Plus they got theres before us. The u.s galaxy s3 development will pick up fast the delays and Verizon just getting it a few days plays a roll to.

One question I have though, is what's the difference bettween att galaxy s3 and HTC one XL by att
They both are dual core
Both have snapdragon s4
1.5 ghz
And adrenno 255
So other than the fact the galaxy s3 has 2gb of ram, what's the difference?

Not to be rude but you need to research the specs yourself, someone could say one has magic faeries inside for all you know.
The One X has a super lcd2 IPS display, while the GS3 has a samoled hd+ screen.
The One X has no removable storage or battery, while the GS3 has both.
The One X has 1gb of RAM, while the GS3 (USA) has 2gb.
The One X has Sense, we have TouchWiz
