Today I received a screen protector in the mail (came free with a case), so I decided to change out the old one that came pre installed on the X10. Of course once everything was removed and when I started to apply the new one, all of the dust in the house was magically attracted to the new one, rendering it useless.
I'm now stuck without a screen protector, and have growing paranoia that my screen is going to get messed up. Looks like I'll have to order a new one.
Until then, does anyone have an X10 with the protector removed? Has your screen scratched after extended normal use?
I'll probably be stuck without one for a week so I hope it lasts.
Truth : I suspect you won't have much success, if any, finding someone who's successfully scratched their X10 screen. There is one user however, who's succeeded in cracking the screen -- I remember having read a thread about it

Well you've got at least two now, momerbk and gavriel18 on another thread has stated his is "mashed" now due to not having one, so I'd get one on asap.
Not forgetting the guy who's was run over, that was pretty scratched
I've gotten some minor scratches but they are very hard to see... and from my personal tests the X10 screen hides scratches better then the Dell Streak

Rofl, I saw that one as well, although it doesn't really fit into my "normal use" category
I'm pretty careful with my stuff, I'll just have to avoid buses until I get a new screen protector lol.
This thread is somewhat putting me at ease though!
Semi related: Are there any scratch test videos for the X10?
Multiple scratches and a chip. Still don't know how I managed that...
haha lol. I scratched mine within 3 weeks ... I have now one big scratch and a few little scratches blegh.
Are you guys sure you really scratched the glass or is it just the original screen protector? The original screen protector scratches very easily. That is why I removed mine and replaced it with something better.
mine is still mint, I work in bean processing plant(dusty), spend most of my days off at the beach with the kids. That's no proof that it won't get scratched one day but I doubt it will make people think less of me if i have a scratch on my screen

I'm pretty sure they all have them stock. Take a closer look at the lower part of the screen near the buttons. You should be able to see it there. it is an exact fit protector so it's almost impossible to see that it's there.

Another quick question:
I've heard that some of the better screen protectors can actually hide previous scratches once they are applied, is that actually true?
I've ordered both the clear coat screen protector and also that free stealthguard protection thing, so I'm hoping that one of those will be sufficient

I put one of the free stealthguards on mine Saturday. I only used he screen guard not the full body though. It was a little difficult to get the oem screen protector off but only until you get it started. Once it starts peeling it comes off fairly easy.
i have my phone in a leather case without a screen protecter, never been a fan of them and my screen is immaculate... so far it is only almost 3 weeks old though

wow just found it, i never noticed it LOL, it's a thick screen protector, sometimes when texting i noticed the phone sometimes missed keys wonder if it was because of the protector.
so can anyone confirm that there phone has been scratched without the OEM protector?
I think that extra thick shield is supposed to act as a "shatter resistant protector" so that if you do happen to smash the glass you don't get shards and splinters everywhere. It is much thicker than any screen protector i've seen before and taking it off will ruin it.
I took my oem one off and now have a deep scratch , not a clue how I did it. If I could go back I would definitely use protection lol. They may not be as pretty as the bare screen but they work.

Do you have bubbles under the protection? Do you see the protection or is your shield really invisible ?
For my first two devices I used Brando anti-glare protectors (shop.brando.com.hk) and was very happy. It was a couple of years ago though, so they may have changed since.
But whatever you do, don't buy Proporta!
Their protectors are too small for the screen of the TyTN, and when (on their recommendation) you return the protector they will not send you a replacement. And when you tell them how unhappy you are with the situation they just stop answering your emails.

If applied properly & very carefully, then there are no bubbles. I have none, and it's transparent.
I use exim screen protector. I can definitely recommend it to anyone.
i agree with tiatrop,
i use the exim SPUC screen protectors on all my devices.
you can peel them off and reapply them,
the instruction says you can even wash them, but i've yet to try it.
and any bubbles when putting them on, can easily be pushed out.
I agree with bamse, I've been using Brando for years, I did try another brand on my C500 a couple of years back, they didn't come up to scratch. I'm using on my herm, no probs no bubble (you need to spend a little time carefully applying).
Boxwave has some good screen protectors. I'm using their crystal clear on my 8525 now and had the anti-glare on my HP iPAQ.

I washed mine once. It fell on the carpet so you can imagine the things that got stuck there! Damaged the corner a little bit but it was completely reapplyable, and I managed to get all the dust out with scotch-tape. Hence my recommendation.
Wow, thank you all for you recommendations. I definitely check them out.
But is there a way to apply a SP, without having bubbles? What you mean exactly with "carefuly"?
Do you use credit cards for that? I red that credit cards for appling are an evil thing.
I guess it's tall order to say make a youtube tutorial, haha...

I actually had this on my previous 8525 that I had to send back for warranty replacement. It is a booger to put on..took me a good half hour to do it right. The cutout pcs are not all exactly perfect but fit good enough. I really like it. It held up very well, gave the phone a slick glossy finish and made for good traction when I would set my phone down on my center console in my truck.(previously if I tried that it would slide(actually fly) off the vinyl covered console if I hit the brakes too hard or turned a corner too fast... with the Shield on there it never slipped. I am going to order another one now for this warranty replacement as well..just been waiting to make sure this device didnt fail before installing another shield!

wouldnt a credit card or anything similar work?
I've been using screen protectors for some time now on my previous and current PDA's and phones; HP has a nice system of protectors that have grids on the removable side to assist in visually getting the best fit. Would never use my 8525 without one... and yes, anything like an old credit card, cut to the right size, will work to get air bubbles out.
But thanks to this thread, I've now ordered the Bodyshield; if it's all it's claims to be, AND with a lifetime guarantee, it should be worth the $24.95.

Hi All, since a lot of us are getting the shift now, i guess it's time to think about which screen protector you are going to use, personally i always enjoy the Martin Field Overlay Screen protector, but they don't seems to have one for the shift yet, what do you guys think? found any good screen protector you are going to use?
Hi,
My shift was delivered with a screen protector, I have placed it on the first day and it looks really good. There was no brand on it, so I cannot tell about the manufacturer.
So far I am vey satisfied with it.

yes, i am aware of that, it just i have been using HTC for more then 7 years now, past experience told me i better wait for better screen protector, because once you put it the HTC one, it's so difficult to remove it, and if you do try to remove it and swap it with something else, you leave a mark on the screen, some user even experience bend and uneven screen because the original one is just so sticky.
There don't seem to be many screen protectors specifically for the Shift yet, I'm sure there will be soon. I fitted the included one but not very well, I managed to get a couple of dust specks under it.
I've ordered some generic 7" protectors from Durasec http://www.durasec.com/catalog/index.php?language=en
I also ordered one of their liquid nanotech screen protector kits, don't know much about it but it appears to be a liquid which you spray onto the screen to form a seal. Should be interesting...
Is it neccessary?
Hi,
please, give me an answer to a stupid question?
Is it really necessary to apply a screen protector. Why don't the manufacturers do it in the first place.
What are the advantages, what the disadvantages. Okay, protection comes to mind as an advantage, but shouldn't the original screen be resilient enough?
I'd really like to here some informative opinions.
I have been using a HTC Vario II for some time now without any protection and I can't detect any scratches.

Has anyone managed to find a decent screen protector yet?
Pantaloonie - how was the durasec one?
I've received them, but haven't got round to removing the original and trying them out. The liquid one is a bit strange, apparently you spray it on the screen then spread it with the included cloth, and it forms a protective layer.... or something. Think I'll be testing that on a cheaper device first!

I'd leave it on if I were you - I only took mine off as it had a hair underneath and I was losing sleep over it. Took a while but once you get a hold of a little corner it lifts off no problem. I've emailed HTC to ask if they can send me another but I'm notn holding my breath.
Would stay away from the standard Duratec - waste of £8. Let me know if you try the liquid one though!
Hi -
Anyone used the liquid Duratec shield on the Shift yet?

Duratec Crap
Hi,

But which one is really recommendable?

How did you remove the original screen protector without damaging the display? What is the problem with the Duratec screens?
Hi,
removal was difficult, but I did it. I don't know the exact English words. I used this sticky tape which you wrap up parcels with, tape is of a brownish colour. That I stuck onto the screen protector until it lifted in one corner.
Duratec is thin and cheap material and I guess it is not possible to get it on the screen without lots of bubbles.
Now I have ordered a protector from Brando, was that the name?
We will see.
S.
I really like the anti glare screen protector from www.pocketpctechs.com . I use it with my both my SMT5800 cellphone and my Motion Tablet PC. I'm hoping I can get one sized for the Shift. But my Shift is not here yet so I don't know the size. I can't even tell I have a screen protector with this brand.
screen protector abuse
Hi,
any news about the "best" protector.
In the meantime I have abused 4 or 5. Duratec's cheap ones aren't of any other use than to clean the screen from dust particles.
I tried the Brando "ultra clear" was that the name? Relativ easy to apply, but in the end I fiddled with it too long. Had to peel it off.
Next I tried Brando "plus". Easily to apply, but foil slipped underneath the edge of the screen, when lifting it up to clean off a piece of fluff the protectors edge was damaged.
But the last one is really easy to apply. But, but, they or the distributers just declared them to be for the Shift, originally they are for the eee, how many eeeees were there?
So the screen protector doesn't really fit. At the edges there the foil doesn't cover about 1 or 2 millimeters of the Shift's screen.
Maybe somtime soon they will sell a protector that is for the Shift.
Please, if anyone has got the ultimate protector mention it here:
perfect fit and easily to apply would be nice features.
S.

They are excellent. They will scartch up a little and need replacing eventually but they protect the screen well.
How long do they roughly last? I know my original SE, the ig thick one, had a tiny couple of scratches from when i dropped hte phone twice.
Just felt so unresponsive, its amazing how much more responsive it is without the SE OEM protector!

I bought mine on the web at:
http://www.overlayplus.com/
I have never had one tear or fall off so they get scratched a little from normal usage.
My X1 protector got scratched up by the stylus.
The X10 has no real scratches on it because, obviously, there is no stylus.
Whoa, that looks nice! Full face protection. Way better than the AT&T protectors with odd coverage beyond the screen.
What's this OEM protector everyone talks about? Mine didn't come with one.

Recieved it this morning.
First impressions.
Tricky-ish to apply,
Not the best of fits, but its still a good fit, (Not same fit as OEM)
Has a tint of colour to it (Blue, Purple?)
Has a Circle gap where the light sensor thing is (Top right)
Attracts fingerprints really nicely!
Must say, the screen loooks really clear. Its almost like looking at it without a protective layer on!
gt a it of dust in the corner while applying so took it off and went to wash it.
Washed it, used a hairdryer to dry it like it tells me to. When i reapply i can see circles, like dry water droplets. Cleaned and cleaned and these are for sure on the inside.
How the hell am i supposed to get rid of them, washed again, but they just re-appear in different places!
Have ordered these:

Good reviews, hopefully they'll e better then Martin Fields!

Hi all,
I've had my x10a for more than a month now, running 2.1 global and everything seems great. However, there is one thing that kind of bothers me. With the stock screen protector installed, I kind of feel that i can't swipe on the screen smoothly, lots of friction going on and the responsiveness isn't as great. This especially annoys me when I play Fruit Ninja, comparing with my ipod touch first gen. There is a noticeable delay when I swipe across the screen on my x10.
I'm wondering, will the sensitivity increase by a bit? ( im not looking for iphone4 sensitivity here, just wondering if it would increase after I install an alternative protector )
Do you guys suggest that I remove the stock protector and install a third party screen protector?

I took the stock screen protectors off and it's the worst. I've never had a touch screen work so bad. The only reason I haven't installed another is because the phone is defective, and I have to wait on rogers to get the replacement.
IMO if you want to take the stock screen protectors off, put a high quality one on right after. Also, I've been using the phone with no screen protector for about 2 months and I haven't scratched the screen, which is pretty impressive.

The screen under the stock screen protector is the worst. And I'm referring to touch sensitivity, the images displayed by the x10 are quite nice.
So to answer your question, the screen's performance, for me, was worse after removing the stock screen protector. I've heard rumors that there are actually 2 stock screen protectors shipped on the phone. I'm nervous to start picking at the edges again, but if it's anything like the potential "outer" screen protector it's there but hard to see and difficult to take off.
Does anyone know if there are actually two screen protectors applied by sony before shipping?

there's is already a "screen protector" pre-applied on the x10. it's another kind of screen protector which i forgotten the term for it..and inside the box there is also a cheapo screen protector..so if u had use the cheapo screen protector..u are having 2 screen protector on ur x10.
anyway, the "screen protector" can actually be taken off, required abit of skill though. i had heard others removing it and comment tat it is much much more responsive.
but in my opinion i would not have taken it off,it was supposed to give more protection for our phone..surely SE dont put it there for no reason..
All that bad reaction especially in games has nothing to do with the screen, it's all about performance! 3D games with the x10 are horrible and mostly unplayable, you gonna feel if you try an Samsung galaxy!
Sony set the maximum fps that could be reached to 32.. which is in my eyes not smooth..
So for games you need another phone...
hehe i take on the protector that come in the box...so i have two.
The sheap one is terrible so i have ordered a new one.
But i will leave the one from se on even if i put on the new one.
Mine is from the UK and I didn't see one on my phone or in the box apart from the one on the screen that you are meant to take off.
I find that the screen does not respond well if you have sweaty fingers or even when there a drop of water on it but other than that, it is fine for me.
I got a screen protector from Stealth Guard now and it is very easy to apply. Now it works even with sweaty fingers and rain on it. This protector may not be for everyone though as my mates have trouble using it.

Yes, I don't think UK phones have a screen protector on, unless it's really difficult to see and remove...
Can anyone post any photos of the one that comes with the phone?

Yeah it's almost invisible.
I have removed both protectors that were on the screen. The only negative point is that its more exposed to scratches, nothing that a new thinner protector wont cure the sensitivity is a little better I guess but I think SE's bloatware kinda screws up the phones performance anyhow... Bottom line is that the phones screen is sensitive enough but the software is too slow, although I havent tried the 2.2 custom rom yet to verify this
Edit: Nor have I tried to uninstall the most resource demanding apps like timescape etc.
It's only been a month since I bought my S3. I have 5-6 very tiny scratches on my screen which are easily visible in bright light. :crying:
It's like a group of scratches at the bottom center of my screen. I am still trying to figure out how I got them. I can assure you that I am not responsible for these scratches. :crying:
I have treated my phone with respect and yet it has developed these scratches. I have never dropped my phone. I have never kept it face-down on any surface.
The funny part is that the back cover on the Samsung Galaxy S3 sucks as well. Its got tiny scratches all over even though I have never ever kept the phone on any surface without keeping a micro-fiber cloth under the phone!
The only possible explanation for the scratches can be dust. Can I claim warranty on the phone since the screen is supposed to be scratch resistant?
I am super sad now
A few fine sand particles against the glass in a pocket will do more than two sets of keys.

Read the waranty card, such normal wear and tear are not covered in the waratnty....
are you allergic to a screen protector and a back cover??
Normal glass won't even scratch if you take a key to it. Sand particles are what gets you.

If you can't put a screen protector on a $700 phone then you should reconsider the decision of owning a smartphone.
Tip: get a back tpu case as well.

I am not allergic to either. The problem is that I ordered the TRIDEA ALIKE case on 8th June from ebay but there were some manufacturing problems and the case delivery got delayed. It should be here in a weeks time. There are no decent screen protectors available in the local market. The ones that are available on ebay will take 2 weeks to be delivered to my country. With the case still not delivered, I am still contemplating about ordering a screen protector online or waiting for it to hit the stores.

No one in their right senses would think of not putting a screen protector on a costly phone. Like I said, I was waiting for some screen protectors to hit the local markets since I already had a bad experience with shopping for a case online. I ordered it a month back and it's still not here.
I heard that the Galaxy s3 comes with an additional coating that repels oil. Could it be possible that I have only scratched this coating and not the actual glass. If yes, how can I tell the difference?

Speak for yourself sunshine. My senses are where they should be, and I never have nor never will use a screen protector.
As posted elsewhere, got my first scratch last week, sand was the culprit, my fault though. Doesn't worry me. Sure I'll get a few more. Such is life.

Sorry if I have offended you.
Looks like you have a lot of phones to not be worried about the scratches
@ white_android, Your not getting any Sympathy from me and besides, it takes a certain kind of individual with your type of courage to advertise their COMPLETE STUPIDITY !
Case in point !
No where in your first post did you say that you took precautions to protect your $500+ high tech toy ! It almost sounds like your blaming Samsung for your stupidity and you wanted support from other users here !
ISN'T HAPPENING DUDE !
@phoenix
What makes you think I am stupid? I have had 2 phones with gorilla glass before I got my s3 and none of them got a single scratch on them ever. I started using a screen protector when my phones were a couple of months old since its human nature to not care much about old things.
I was waiting for a good screen protector to be available in the local stores because I only just got the phone and thought It was okay to wait for sometime before I get a screen protector. I had no idea the S3 screen was going to be this delicate.

If I was in your situation, I would not use the phone untill I get screen guard.
Every screen gets scratches even if its scratch resistance.
IF YOU LIKE MY WORK, THANK ME BY THE BUTTON BELOW
Scratches don't affect the functionality of the device. Suck it up.
Also, scratch resistant not scratch PROOF.

What screen protector do you recommend. Something that I can get quickly and has good quality. I know SGP makes the best ones but are they available in India. Ordering online means having to wait a very long time for the shipping! ;(

My first reaction when I saw the scratches was "here we go" with a deep breath! . I am still feeling sad but I hope these are the last scratches I get on this awesome phone.

1 SGS1, unscratched. 3 SGS2s, one with small scratch on screen and many chips in bezel, one with totally smashed screen (tram ran over it), one unscratched. 1 SGS3, tiny scratch on screen. 1 Lumia 800, unscratched (unused, to tell the truth).
I can barely see the scratch on the SGS3, it's ca. 3mm long, upper right of screen. And as said, since it was my fault for taking it to a beach, that's even less reason to beat myself up about it.
Screenguards seem to be the way forward for you. I just don't care enough - phone's for using, and I can't be bothered with the hassle of "babysitting" it instead of using it.
Resale value!

That makes sense. I hate the fact that I have to treat my phone like a living thing. I am only going to do this to get a good resale value on my phone when I decide to upgrade just like i did with my older phones.
Anyway, does anyone have the answer to my question. How can i tell whether i scratched the screen or the coating!
Scratch resistant =/= scratch proof.

Going on 3 weeks with my S3 and no scratches at all, anywhere. No screen protector or case, have never really liked them. Phone spends the whole day in my pocket or screen side down on my bed side at night and is holding up quite well for now :fingers-crossed:
I find a screen protector is the equivalent of wearing a condom during sex.... .
I don't wear a condom either.... I am married mind.

I agree. I hate screen protectors and it killed me to spend $13 for the Rearth case for this phone lol

In fairness, mine hasn't lasted the last 3 days on the beach.. It was hidden in my bag but sand gets everywhere. A few small scratches, but so be it my phone is staying naked.
