Anyone know of a good free reboot app that doesnt requre a rooted device. Preferably just a button on the home screen that i press.
Any reccomendations?

I have been looking for something similar myself but haven't found anything other than a task-killer which doesn't really re-start.

I've been using fast reboot which seems to work OK.....I think, it doesn't actually reboot the phone like, its more like a complete task killer that kills almost everything (including some of the core stuff) and freshes the phone, I get about most of my ram freed up (240mb) and the phone starts to run smooth again, but sometimes I still prefer to do a manual power down and up again.

switch pro has a reboot button on there widget, think it might need root tho for any reboot app to work

Yeah, it works great but needs root. With Universal Androot it is so easy to root, plus you can use Barnacle Wifi Tether (You have to find the .apk as its blocked in the market on Att 1.6.

extended controls has a reboot widget, I'm rooted so I couldn't tell you if it works if you are not??

Probably been asked a thouswnd times but has anyone got a link to a rooting guide for streak. Also will it affect my ability to receive updates for o2?

[Q] Atrix root not working properly

I "successfully" rooted my Atrix using SuperOneClick and have the superuser app. I was able to install and user Titanium Backup. But for some reason whenever I try using an app to screen shot, the app asks for super user perms... Then fails, telling me that my phone isn't rooted. The apps appear in the superuser app as having the correct permissions. This happened with ShootMe and ScreenShot It. Any suggestions?
My best suggestion is to reboot then try it. The second may be the app may need to be updated for Atrix compatability.
I have rebooted the phone several times (as per GetaPhixx's recommendation in his youtube vid) but, that didnt work). I guess I will wait for an update. Do you know of any screen shot apps that are usable on the Atrix?

I just unistalled Shoot Me this morning after not being able to run it on my Atrix. I'm fairly sure your problems are not the result of a bad root. If you try other "rootable" apps, they will work fine (mine do), but the screen capture apps - specifically Shoot Me don't seem to work with the Atrix. I'm running Barnacle, CacheMate and Titanium (that all need root unlocking) with no problem.

I was having the same problem with screen capt apps but I don't have an sd card installed yet and figured that was the problem... Do you have an sd card on yours?

Make sure you have USB zdebugging on when you are using the application; however if it is saying that you aren't rooted at all then.... you should try doing the thing again.
When you plug it in, make sure the USB setting is set to none.

Same problem here, too. I did these as well, to no avail.

Why do stock apps launch at boot?

Why do stock apps launch at boot? Like accuweather and yahoo?

Nobody? Find it stupid that a lot of apps launch and take up ram even though they are never used.

It's how samsung designed it and if it bugs you just root the phone and freeze the apps with titanium backup

this is just how android works. it loads up many apps on boot, and in the background even when you didnt not open them, so that it is faster the next time you need to use said apps. some people hate it, but the bottom line is there's nothing you can do about it except remove those apps from your phone. its just how android is built.
You have problems with RAM ? I use like 10% most of the time.
Free RAM is wasted resource. Stop thinking of things in terms of how Windows work with it crappy resource management system previous to Windows 7.
Well, if the RAM used for these apps could have been used to store apps that I really USE instead of apps I don't us, the useful apps could have been started quicker... (and apps I have used recently would not have been kicked out of memory so fast.
do not worry about that.
just uninstall the apps you never use.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again they need to make the system *really* clever by having it learn what apps you use the most and load the relevant processes rather than stuff which is unlikely to get used.

Captain Obvious speaking here , forgive me: If you have the weather widget on screen , or those live wallpapers that link with weather, your accuweather process needs to run.
And any app that has notification mode (like yahoo) will start up on boot, check what it is supposed to do ("are my notifications on or off?") and then recede to background if there is nothing to do or if the notifications are disabled.
If after boot you press and hold the home button, tap "task manager" then switch to the "ram" tab - does it show that you are using all 800 or so MB of memory with all those background apps? Probably not.
what annoys me is that at bootup it loads up apps i use once a week or so and makes it take ages before the phone is usable. fine, keep it in memory once i've used it but don't load everything at bootup ffs
we really need a msconfig type thing to stop this.

this sounds like its your first android phone. you arent the first person to notice this and be unhappy about it. this topic has been beaten to death in the android world. there are utilities you can do to remove broadcast receivers upon startup etc as well as tweak the internal memory algorithm numbers to be more aggressive. but in the end you are going against the OS. its best to remove any app you dont use and dont want starting up like that. and if you need root for that, then this just goes to show why so many people love getting a pure android nexus phone, because this type of nonsense doesnt exist there. its pure barebones elegance, with the OS working precisely as intended. zero samsung bloatware.

My sgs2 takes about 18seconds to boot to be usable thats good for a smart phone my x10 took about 40 and my old x1 was even longer.

my 2nd actually (desire last time round), rooted both, same annoyances in both - not HTC bloat, or samsung - the fact that i can't have control (key word here) over my phone. i mean if i wanted an OS without options i would have gone for an iphone!
i've tried a few apps that claim to stop apps booting up but they all fail.
as far as removing them, why? a simpler solution would be to stop the damn things running all the time. i don't use photoshop on my PC daily but i'm not going to install/uninstall the thing as i use it. it should just sit there waiting to be ran not doing anything at all until that moment.

still a long time when you're looking at the screen wishing it would hurry the hell up. seriously, count it. boot up your phone in front of someone with winmo 7 or an iphone then, after it turns on and you see the first glimpse of your homescreen say - it'll just take another 20 seconds or so. 1...., 2..... 3..... 4..... 5...... etc etc etc.
it's annoying and bad practise from an "instant on" standpoint. i want to turn it on, type in pin, see homescreen and hit a shortcut and have it load. not have to other stuff i wont use that day to load in the background first.
------
anyhoo - this is something that annoys me - big time ...obviously
yeah its just something that you're gonna have to live with. its just the way android is designed for better or worse.
If you have root, get an app called Gemini app manager, its free and you can tweak the autorun settings for anything.
That not the OS caching in ram(good) but stuff you dont need running and using cpu etc(bad).
Just be carefull about what you tweak and backup etc.
Surely stock apps don't each that much battery right? my ram is usually 200MB-300MB / 1GB and I'm using a brand new SG2 stock firmware / unrooted and the only widgets i have are pictures/weather/google search.
Even though social hub, digital clock, etc still run in "Running applications" the list is pretty small...

HELP: Jumpy/Sporadic Widgets in Overview Mode

I'm not sure why but whenever I flash a GB ROM the widgets in overview mode jump around too much/too fast to the point where I can't even accurately choose which one I want to go to. It's smooth at first after a fresh boot/reboot but as time goes on my overview mode always starts to act crazy no matter which ROM I flash (I've been going back n forth between EWJET and WB and it happens with both of them). Is it possible to get the stock overview mode from GB with the widgets that are static and don't move round like in these custom versions? Any help would be appreciated, this is the only feature I am starting to not like.
I suspect this has to do with the fps unlock. I noticed it worked OK without it.

I didn't even think of that! That does sound like it could be a valid reason. Thanks!
Hey speig, do you know if there's a way to remove the uncap/restore the 30 or 32 (whichever it is) cap? I searched and found a solution in a thread that says to delete some line from a file in root explorer but it's not letting me edit the file, just view it even though I enable all permissions. Thanks in advance if you're able to help!
Scratch that...I was able to use ES file explorer/manager to restore the cap

Is There An APP That You Can Schedule Reboots?

I'm Looking for an app that you can set up a schedule to have your phone reboot at a specific time every day. I know about "Fast Reboot" and those type of apps, but I'm looking for something that fully reboots the phone, hardware and all. Anyone know of an app that does that?
I would think Tasker could probably do it.
I haven't used tasker before and I have read that it is complicated to use so I was hoping for something a little more simple. Plus, I don't really need tasker for anything else so that would be kind of an expensive rebooting app. But I bet your right and that it could do it and thank you for taking the time and giving me your suggestion.
Why woukd you need a reboot app? Just curous
Sent from my Vibrant on Ultimate 2.2.1
I don't need it per say. But I thought it would be nice to have it reboot and be ready in the morning right away. I just reboot my phone every morning and to have it done automatically would be cool. That's all.

Also charging is better with phone off on GB so having the ability to have the phone turn on at a set time would still allow use of an alarm...theoretically anyway. I've actually thought about this but haven't looked into it.

That is another great reason that I hadn't even thought of. Nice
Theres an app out there called PhonePrioritizer....it can perform scheduled reboots using a script. it does work, i used to use it....google it and check it out

Theres no way to have the phone turn on by itself while it is not on...he probably means he just wants his phone to reboot itself like a half hour before he wakes up every morning so its fresh and ready to go, and he has all that nice reboot-RAM to play with.

Thanks, I will check that app out. And yes, you knew exactly what I meant. Thanks, I couldn't think of another way to explain it and you did perfectly.
Titanium Backup would be the easiest way to do it, but you have to back stuff up, which you're probably doing, anyway, right?
I would have paid at least $20 for it, and it's been worth much more to me than that.
You can use Script Manager to write a script that reboot
(Create a Script in your SD card, under the #!/system/bin/sh line just write the word reboot, it should look like this:
#!/system/bin/sh
reboot
)
Afterwards, long hold that script, and then change it so that it Run as root.
DO NOT check the Run at boot, or else it'll infinitely reboot.
then in Script Manager, go to Menu --> Advanced Options --> Scheduler
and then schedule the time you want it to reboot. Then press add script, add that script you just made.

Any way to accelerate the starting process?

hi everyone, my photon using stock rom takes 1 minute 45 seconds to start. is there any way to accelerate it? or install any app?
You can download the Autostarts app and edit the startup options, remove apps, install a new ROM (including formatting partitions), or install CyanogenMod when I'm done with it... it starts up pretty damn fast, like 10 seconds.
Show off!!! Me kidds!!

Actually, showing off for the CM Dev team They're the ones that make it boot fast, not me. But really, try out the Autostarts app. You'll need root access, but it can make a world of difference.
I'm using Android Assistant's Startup Manager to kill apps on startup, but I have never seen anything like a 10 second boot. That would be amazing.
Is there a guide out there to which Android processes don't need to run on startup? I'd love to be able to selectively kill more processes on startup so that it boots faster but I'm afraid of touch too many of the system processes.
