[Q] Few interesting quirks with the Mini Pro - any ideas? - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi all,
Just purchased an X10 Mini Pro (U20a) and I'm really digging the li'l bugger. Had a few interesting quirks and I wanted to see if anyone has the same problems
Here's the basic info on the phone:
Firmware 1.6
Build: 1.1.A.0.8
Kernel version 2.6.29 SEMCUser(at)SEMCHost #1
Under Settings > About Phone > Baseband it shows at "Unknown".
Under Settings > About Phone > Status > My Phone Number it shows "Unknown". That had never happened to me with my other Android phone, let alone a SE phone.
Is this normal? BTW, the phone was purchased factory unlocked on eBay and above the barcode on the box it has SI 1240-1185.3 XL,AE (whatever that means)
Any help / pointers would be greatly appreciated?

Mine is a UK model updated to the latest software build 1.2.A.1.174 and it shows my phone number, however it reports unknown baseband like yours.

anonimo, thanks for the quick reply. At least that scratches one "off the list".
I only have the unknown phone number "mystery" and one silly question:
Can anyone confirm, if the FOTA 1.2.A.1.174 pkg posted on the other thread can be used for a U20a safely? I think if I remember correctly, U20i users reported it working but I don't recall reading anything from a U20a user..
Thank to all users here for sharing your knowledge and helping others out!

I don't know if SonyEricsson feeds the two models with different packages over the air. If that's the case then it could be that the package on the forum is good only for one model but not the other. I updated my phone (MiniPro) via OTA directly from SonyEricsson.

1240-1185 XL, AE is the GEL Firmware, which is one of three generics known for the U20a at the moment. Brazil as far as I know is still the only generic to have received updates since release. Check the u20a info thread and debrand threads in the Mini Pro Development section for more info. Mine says number unknown and same for baseband version. The latter is probably related to the phone hardware, not sure about the former however.

I am not sure I understand what you mean. My phone is "generic" UK i.e. non-operator branded and I got the update from SonyEricsson...

I unbranded my phone to the UK generic firmware, and get "unknown" for my phone number too. Doesn't seem to have any obvious effect

Thanks for the input. Glad to see I'm not the only one with the missing phone number. benjymous, I know it doesn't affect functionality but I still wondered about why it didn't show up - guess there are gremlins inside the phones!
I'll look at the U20a info thread again. Its a shame the 2.1 upgrade was delayed to "late October" according to Engadget

Generic UK is a u20i build, I was referring to the U20a Generics, of which there are three. GEL (Generic English/Latin America), Bangladesh and Brazil. The former two are still sitting on the release firrmware.
@rmarquez
Just checked the phone number thing out a bit more thoroughly, the number needs to be programmed onto the sim being used. I just used my old Motorola to program the sim and now the number displays on the SE. Not sure how to do it on the SE, will have a look around later and see if I can find something.

Maybe it's a matter of what SIM you are using. Maybe Android uses a SIM command to retrieve the phone number that is not supported by all SIMs...
(Note I have used "maybe" twice because this is just a wild guess!)

2.1 update options in new zealand?

Hi everyone,
I've got a gsm hero which is exactly as i bought it from an importer here in nz and i'd like to know what my options are for getting 2.1 on it?
baseband version 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22
build number 2.73.710.61
Running on vodafone NZ.
I suspect the phone was imported from Australia because the manual that came on the sd card was from australia but i can't be sure.
I've had a look around the forums but can't find any roms with the same build number as mine. so i'm not sure about using the wwe roms.
btw, I don't really care about rooting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, if more details are needed just let me know
Thanks
I'm not sure but you can give this a try: set the date to July 10, 2010 then connect via wifi. That's what I did on my Asian Hero and it worked. Now I have 2.1
Also make sure that checking for firmwares is enabled in your setting.
im also from nz (and know two others with heros) and havent had any luck yet with the date tricks.

You need to find out what region your hero comes from.. check their htc support section to see if there are any downloadable updates you need to apply (sounds like there is) then once you have done that try the date trick again.

my build number is 2.73.707.9 thats for Singapore correct?

Where can I check that setting?
Some Singapore users are not getting the update yet even with the date trick, so you may have to wait a bit longer... or download the official ROMs and install via HTC sync:

I just used btdag's tut on rooting over the weekend and updated two hero's with the latest radios etc and all is well
Which carrier would you Kiwis recommend for use in NZ? I'm more interested in data than phone calls.
How long will you be here?
5 months 2 days!
There are very few options sadly, Vodafone NZ and Orcon (depending on your model of Hero you may be able to use Telecom NZ). I am currently on Vodafone NZ which have prepaid and post paid plans. No matter which plan you go on you can add 100mb for $10. Their "smartphone" specific plans can be found here but as you are only coming for a few months then it doesn't make sense. http://www.vodafone.co.nz/shop/plansOnAccount.jsp;ATG_SESSION_ID=pHs1MPnXQbn2zZJgplJjSvHbvtyHcQcTwy1wpPnpyv0d2NghpS4h!1018025480!2040597205?plantype=mobile&billingMethod=onAccount&planSegment=consumer&productGroupItemId=grp74400002&menuKey=mnit1400020
Your best bet may be to go with Orcon (they piggyback on Vodafone network anyway). Their prices are here http://www.orcon.net.nz/mobile/plans
Personally I'm on Vodafone and have a $30 + $10 (for 100mb) plan as i am near WiFi 90% of the time.
Let me know if you need anything else, like APN details and the like as the people in the stores don't know much at all!!
A brilliant, helpful reply thanks!

uk generic "code"

i want to put my phone back to uk generic, what is the code i need to put in?
I used 1235-7379, which is UK generic according to another thread on xda, and I've just flashed using SEUS to the UK 2.1 firmware.
So far it seems much much faster than the Nordic one!
il try that, thanks mate, how will i know if it works though?
If you go into the service menu (menu back back menu back menu menu back) and click on software info then the customization version will contain that number, mine does (1235-7379).
I don't know of anywhere where it specifically says 'UK'.
Interestingly my uk generic says world!
I used 1232-9897 and when going to service menu of says WORLD. So I guess I'm back to UK generic :-D
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
1232-9897 is World generic, not UK..
Uk is, as stated above, 1235-7379
@nathaniel57 - Did you happen to notice the file size when you switched from Nordic to UK?? I've tried a couple of times and cancelled it cos it was downloading something around 142Mb.. which seems too small!

How to Debrand Nokia Lumia 710

Hi guys i know this is the 800 section but i thought would put it here until its moved by admin
Tools needed
Nokia Care Suite 5.0.0 (2011.51.2) http://www.seidea.com/2011/12/28/nokia-care-suite-5-0-2011-51-2-63048/
NaviFirm Plus - http://www.symbian-toys.com/navifirm.aspx
Once you have installed Nokia care suite, install the drivers package for your version of windows - Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers WinUSB Drivers x86 or x64
Download the Firmware needed from Navifirm should be about 12 files.
1. Launch Nokia Care Suite and open Product Support Tool.
2. Disconnect all phones from the computer and Turn the phone off
3. Select No connection from the connection drop-down menu.
4. From File menu select Open Product.
5. Search for 710 and click Open. RM-803
6. Now connect the phone with it tunred off, it will restart and be detected by the care suite
With the files you downloaded from Navifirm put them in
C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products\ create a folder called Rm-803 if its not there
Now you need to rename the product codes of .dcp / .bin / vpl files to match your device code found on the right of nokia care suite product support tool.
Now the files are in place click programming from the tool bar and select refurbish.
Job Done.
I hold no responsibility if you screw your phone up.
Nicely done. It might be worth including product codes for unbranded models in the guide, would help people pick the right thing from the huge list in Navifirm.
I would be there all day as each country has Black and white devices.
You need to pick the firmware with Country Variant, The country you are in and what colour phone you have. There is no Country Variant for the UK yet with the latest 1600.3013.8107.11502 package in NaviFirm but you can download the older version 1600.3007.7740.11465
UK Black Product code 059N2L6
Germany Black Product code 059M5M0
France Black Product code 059N519
Italy Black Product code 059N0V8
Netherlands Black Product code 059N1Q9
Spain Black Product code 059N1M7
Fair enough, that would take a while, although I suspect no-one is going to care if they flash their phone with black or white variant, what difference can it make anyway?
I don't think it makes any difference, maybe Nokia have put some different themes in to match the colour of the phone.
There's no country variant for Canada. What happens if I flash the phone with a with say a UK firmware?
sutt359, are you sure the latest package is 1600.3013.8107.11505? Mine shows 1600.3013.8107.11502.
It will work fine with UK software. You might find you're missing something Canadian centric, though.
Canadian centric things, eh? I wonder what UK centric things I would find if I flashed with UK software.
Hi, im still kinda green to this whole thing (especially to wp7) and do not know how the thanks meter works, I do want to give thanks to sutt359 for this info. I think it will come in handy

Not a lot, I can't think of anything on my phone. Possibly it's language config?
Anyone tried this yet?
My phone is on o2 UK but is branded Three. It's only the boot logo though, they've not messed about with anything else so I'm not too bothered.

I wouldnt risk flashing a UK version as the radios will be different and may brick the phone. Infact i cant see any US/Canadian roms.
Do you know what bands your network works on? Could you let me know your raido software and hardware versions from about phone.

If you wanted to you could brand it to o2, 1600.3013.8107.11502 using code 059N3C2.
If you want the debrand uk firmware then you will have to use 1600.3007.7740.11465 code 059N2L6. If you use that when the new firmware is out from nokia it will be pushed via zune.

Didn't realize there was a second page in this thread, lol.
Yeah whats up with the lack of North American roms. And you're right; on second thought, I probably shouldn't flash with non-North American roms. Just in case.
EDIT: I saw some people on here importing the 800 from online UK stores and using it in Canada a couple weeks ago. Oh well, I'll wait for bit.

You can flash any ROM you want. You won't brick the phone.
I'm on an imported UK Cyan Lumia 800. Several of us have been waiting for the North American ROM to see if it would free up the 850 3G band. I flashed both Black and Magenta ROMs for RM-819 and it didn't change affect the radios.
It's hard to brick a Nokia when you're just flashing other ROMs of the same model#.
This is probably an incredibly stupid question, so apologies in advance, but does this also sim unlock it?
It will not.

[Q] How can i tell if my Atrix is ATT or Intl?

In many howto's and other threads it often says "If your atrix is ATT do this, if it's Bell/Intl/whatever do that". Problem is, I have no idea which one of these i have, or what the differences are.
So, does anyone knows what's the difference between these versions, and if there's a way to check which one I have?
If it is still running Stock software then you can check the "splash screen" during boot. Also, the AT&T version has their logo on the back/battery cover.

I got it with a non-stock ROM, so that one doesn't help.
So if it doesn't say AT&T anywhere on the back, can i count on it not being the AT&T version?
Is it MB860, ME860 or MB861?
It says MB860 under the battery.

That really doesn't help since they use the "MB860" model number for more than one version, including AT&T. I believe that is the model number for the Bell and Orange versions as well.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure about that.
(Additionally, a quick Google search also brings up Vodafone and maybe more?)
But if it doesn't say AT&T on the back then it's probably not AT&T.
It's true MB860 is used for more than one provider...If you have the product code something like SJUxxxx then we can get very specific to what country the phone is destined for
There's SJUG5964BB in there. is that it? Does that help any?
go to motorolas website enter your imei number in the "check warrenty section and it will give you the "stock description ",of the phone and if you bought it new the date it was activated and weather or not there is a warrenty left on it but It will tell you the specifics of the phone like mine AT&t en us mb860 blabla
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Didn't work for me.
It said "Your phone is in Warranty - Expires x/y/z" and that's it. No product description or any other useful info.
Unless I'm looking in the wrong place?
I will try to find out for you.
But since a whole lot of websites in Chinese popped up, I bet it's probably a Hong Kong model.
exact same problem
hi, I have the same exact reference of the OP phone, in case its a chinesse phone it is possible to unlock/root?? it's there any guide for doing it without briking the device?
I almost use the Automatic bootloader UNLOCK/ROOT guide. but i think it'll brik my phone.
I was able to get some more information but not enough to tell you where that handset was supposed to go.
It's definitely NOT AT&T...But it wasn't coded for a specific region/provider so it's more of a universal/international version.
So now, if I want to go back to stock firmware (or whatever it's called), how do I know which one is right for my device?
things to check

I can think of a couple of ways to check if your phone's not running the stock ROM AND if you're not rooted:
* Are you able to tether Wifi? On AT&T phones, the tethering is disabled unless you 'activate' it by contacting them
* The system build details on the 'Settings->About phone' page should give a clue. Maybe you could post them here?

[Q] I seem to have gotten Greek firmware on my new S3... does anybody know why?

I got a new phone for Christmas today! I was asked what I'd like, and I specifically requested the Samsung Galaxy S3 because of the flexibility for modding.
The phone itself seems to work fine, and it's in English, but for some strange reason the firmware preloaded on it, with Android 4.3, is the Greek firmware. (I actually live in Scotland, in the UK.) When I do *#1234# in the dialer, this is what I see:
AP : I9300XXUGNG3
CP : I9300XXUGNA8
CSC : I9300EURGNG1

According to SamMobile, this is the 2014 September firmware for Greece. I asked where the phone was bought from and it apparently was bought on Amazon. Since Amazon still seem to be selling and shipping S3s themselves, I don't believe this came from the Marketplace. (I could be wrong, tough.)
Does anybody have any idea as to why I might have had the Greek firmware preloaded? Nothing in the materials with the phone seems to be Greek - there's a UK power adapter from Samsung, English manuals, and even the label in the battery compartment gives the address for Samsung UK. In fact, apart from the *#1234# output above and the output in the About This Phone section of the settings, the only giveaway that it might be Greek firmware is that when rebooting into the stock recovery, the background image has text in Greek. (However, the actual interface is in English.)
I've downloaded the Greek stock firmware files corresponding to my phone from SamMobile for future reference, but before I do any flashing I'd like to work out what's going on...

Questions go in the q&a area, I'll Get a mod to move it.
It could be a refurbished model, things like that can be expected when buying from amazon, ebay etc.
Just flash the latest stock rom for your area If you want to change it.
Read and understand these links and you will be fine. And always backup your EFS!

[edit: One question, though - won't using firmware for a different region fail because of potentially different hardware revisions? Or do all i9300's have exactly the same hardware revisions?]
All i9300 have the exact same hardware so can be flashed with any firmware published for that model.
