I have bough 2 vibrant, and both have gps problems and compass problem i think.
I am at stocked rom
t959uvjfd baseband
2.6.29 kernel
eclair firmware
2.1-update 1
i am so confused about different rom and different kernel, i have no idea what kernel is, i have read so many stickies, and vibrant bible.
i am using mac book pro.......
i have rooted the devise, and using the lag fix from one click lag fix, been waiting on the 2.2 upgrade from day one, which was told to me released in end of septemeber, but now i am reading it wont be avaliable any time soon.
can anyone point me to the current rom, i am new at this stuff. anyone tell me which firmware is latest stock, or best with fixes for lag, and gps
or any other firmware with 2.2 rom,
what will give me ultimate solution at this point?
i m not officially t-mobile, and using the simple mobile in this phone, everytime i click on firmware upgrade, it says no firmware.
sorry for the newbie questions
There are a.few threads about gps and froyo but this is not the right place for your question. Please ensure that you search and post questions in. the q and a thread.

Hey guys. This is my first post on this forum, although I've been lurking for quite some time.
When 2.1 had just come out, there was an X10 flasher that would flash 2.1 to X10a phones, which was great for people like me who were on AT&T and hadn't gotten the update yet (and STILL haven't). I noticed that there's a 2.1 rom for the X10a and I was wondering if there's any reason I should switch over to that. If so, can I just use the flashers listed over in that forum, or is there something I need to do to my X10a now that it's running an X10i firmware?
This is sortof related, as well. I want to install xrecovery, so I downloaded the Busybox installer from the market, but it won't install. Surely not because of my X10i firmware, eh?
I apologize for the newbie questions. This is my first android phone and I'm still learning all of the intimate details of the OS.

There is no reason to switch if you are happy with your current FW. However, if you want, yes you can choose the flash tool on here to switch from one 2.1 version to another. Regarding busybox, you need to be rooted to install it.
I'm rooted. I think the problem with busybox is my microsd is currently in my nook. I just rooted it yesterday.
Anyway, the reason I want to switch firmware is because I'd like to try out some custom roms. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I needed to do other than use the flasher before flashing my phone. My friend somehow managed to screw up his Xperia the other night when flashing the old 1.6 rom. We're still trying to figure out the problem.

You can NOT flash from 2.1 to 1.6 with the normal method. You need to download the AT&T unbrick FW and use it with the flash tool. Hopefully, this will solve your friend's problem.
Thanks so much! I'm going to test it out on mine before I try to tell him how to do it (he's not very tech savvy. haha).
I have to disagree. I have ATT and I originally flashed the x10a Brazil Generic and I had Voice Search. I just tried the newest x10i .24 update and I lost the Voice Search (google app that is only currently available in the USA and Froyo 2.2 or with factory software). I just flashed back with the Global x10a and the Voice Search tab (microphone) showed up for a second on first start, but quickly disappeared and the normal tab (magnifying glass) showed up. I am currently searching to forums looking for the Brazil x10a version to reflash my phone and get my voice search back...it is far and away the best feature on my phone...I hope I can find it.
Hey guys. I would really love someone to shed some light on what's going on here.
My firmware version is 2.2.1
Baseband version is DL09
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
And build number is DL30
I'm running a super clean ROM I believe, but this week I would like to upgrade to the latest (fully stable) releases. I know there's a new modem and new kernels out. Can someone with experience point me in the right direction to get my phone up to the latest and greatest!
Thank you so much!
So I'm kinda new to the whole process, been hacking my fascinate for a month or two, but i'll share what i know, please anyone correct me if i'm wrong on any of this
*note* i assume as you say your an intermediate noob you should know how to flash kernels and roms with out any problems if not check out this tutorial:http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/05/08/complete-guide-how-to-flash-a-custom-rom-to-your-android-phone-with-rom-manager-full-backup-restore/
As far as i can tell EB01 is the best kernel there is right now, most if not all of the CURRENT rom versions are at least using part of it, most are in conjunction with EB16 and EA15. so updating to that would be my first suggestion.
here is a voodoo version of EB01:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19137626/Android/eb01_voodoo.zip
next i have had good luck with Super Clean 2.9.1, here is some info about it:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11900140#post11900140
as for finding a rom that fits your style and level the knoly way to know is to try them out. just make sure you backup a stable rom you know works before going on that adventure
good luck and i hope this helps
EDIT: go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897889. It will give you a more in depth explanation of everything you asked about and need/should know
Thanks for your reply man. EB01 seems to be the kernel for me. What about modem upgrading?
modem upgrading
a quote from the beginner's guide:
These updates also include a radio, which is the phone's programming that it uses to communicate with your cell service. Those are flashed via Odin, the same way you installed clockworkmod.
The Froyo EB01 update has it's own radio that needs to be flashed via Odin.
The version of your radio can also be verified in Settings > About Phone > "Baseband version"

my understanding is that when you flash the new EB01 release of Froyo it will upgrade that as well...i was looking for the original post here on xda but couldn't find it if i can find my file i will post it here for you to dl.
This is a very complete guide on how to get up to speed with EBO1.

It has links to kernals, radios (modems), and ROMS.
You may have to do some digging for things like red CWR and voodoo kernals. But this will take you step my step in updating your fascinate.
Ok i have the Samsung Vibrant for 9 months or so. I've been messing around with roms and odin. Just a info of where i am, but baseband is t959uvjfd which is ok you can say. I wanted to know if i can change my baseband into t959uvji6 WITH OUT deleting anything and just the way it is? i have flash so many time(the phone not my body lol) and i just always searching the best for my phone. If this is possible and also which modems or what ever you call them are the best with good connection, gps, battery, NEVER Drops CALLS!!!!? thanks please reply asap
are u trying to ask for a recommendation on a kernel ?
The baseband is the modem. You can flash new modems through cwm recovery.
Scrizz has a thread in the dev section covering this and providing all the modems to download. Make sure if you're on 2.1 you flash a 2.1 modem.
So last night I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 and I’ve got a few questions regarding various things that I havn’t been able to find through searching around on the forums. If the answers are around the forums and I have missed them I apologize and hopefully you can direct me there.
1. Since I used chainfires rooting method. I’ve used Nitrality’s app to ‘backup’ my /efs and something else it backup up. Here I’m wondering if I use a custom rom such as “Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3” will the things I backed up with Nitrality app restore my original ROM and Kernel incase something hardware wise fails and I need to send it back in to claim on my warranty.
2. The second question im asking is regarding various Custom roms, if I choose to flash ;Lite’ning rom, will I be able to since it states it’s;
based on I9100XXKH3 firmware
baseband I9100XXKH3
The baseband I’m using is XWKE7, will I be able to use this rom?
3. since the version of android I have is 2.3.3 and majority of the Roms need 2.3.4 will it work correctly? If not and I have to legitly update to 2.3.4 will it successfully update since i've rooted my phone?
Hopefully you guys can help answer my questions. Thanks.
bump because I really need help :[
- Litening ROM is based on KH3 ROM, that doesn't mean you need to have a Stock KH3 ROM. So yes, you can install it.
- As I said it doesn't matter what ROM you currently have to flash a 2.3.4 ROM.
- Don't know about the Back up issue, sorry.

Upgrade it to gingerbread 2.3.3 for x10, either by SEUS (depending on your provider) or via flash tool in the development forum. Or a custom GB rom of the many right in the development forum.
