I turned my phone on earlier as normal, and in the bottom-left corner it said Safe Mode. Firstly, how the heck did I turn safe mode on?! And what is it for?
I know what safe mode is for on Windows, is it roughly the same for android?
I'm using VillainROM 12.0 !
Thanks,
Alex

Hi guys, stupid question (hopefully)...
I accidentally went into Download mode instead of Recovery (forgot what USB jig actually did ) and now don't know how to exit out of Download mode....
Anyone help?
Yes, "stupid" is the right word...
Had to hold power button longer than usual - almost twice as long.
Sorry all, will crawl back into corner now.
Hi
Sometimes it happens with me too , but remove the battery to get away with the download mode . This has happened alot with me and I usually do this.
my s2 is still working and there are no issues .
There's no need to take off your battery. Long pressing more than 10 sec the power button, does the job everytime.
Actually the power off tick leads my SGS2 out of download mode. But it hangs on charge screen... Weird, no?
Take a look at "it"
we were all once the same
"Had to hold power button longer than usual - almost twice as long."
Worked for me ty, went into to download mode after using s2root though i didnt had cwm to put in odin.;-)
doing this just bricked my phone...
somehow i managed to get my phone into safe mode it says that in bottom left of screen.i am wondering what does safe mode do. i couldnt find anything in settings that was not there before nothing different in apps menu.so what is the purpose of safe mode.
I believe safe mode means that the phone will boot and only allow access to factory installed apps and setting to trouble shoot issues. On the evo 3d you hold the down volume when the splash screen appears. To take it out of safe mode just pull the battery, replace and reboot.
So I already posted in both threads similar to mine I'm posting now, but those problems seem to be different from the problem I'm having.
So everyone says to do the emergency "power on with volume up held down"
But mine never powers off. The Boot loop goes from the boot loop sequence, and if I force it off it goes to "Entering Upload Mode: Cause Unknown". Forcing that off it immediately boots into the boot loop. So I can never shut it off, so I can never enter the emergency "hard reset" mode, because the device never shuts off. Eventually the battery dies, but the hard reset doesn't worth then either.
Does anyone know how to use the upload mode? The link to a samsung driver in the other thread is now a broken link. And once I'm able to write data to the device, where do I get the right set of android hard reset files?
I have no data on the device I need.
I have a very similar situation. Since yesterday my tab got caught in a boot loop. Didn't made any changes, just went into it. And the only way to turn it off is to force it to go to download mode and turn it off down by holding power button from there. I have rooted it a long time ago. I can't get into recovery mode by holding power+up. All I can get it the download mode that first says "waiting for usb cable" and if I connect it to the PC it goes to "press the [START] of Odin3". Do I need to try the fastboot method and reset it to factory details? I've being trying to do that but no devices were listed... Or do I need to reflash something with oding again? Please, just give me a tip.

i just want to flash stock rom. i'v tried flashing a custom rom. but something went wrong and now i have this problem. hope somebody can help me.
If you're using a windows machine reinstall the drivers and see if that helps get past the problem. If you need links I have to get on my PC an copy and paste from there. Keep us updated. I've been there done that I think. So I hope I can help.

What drivers? I've never installed any drivers of any kind, nor does my manual mention the need for drivers?
What is Odin, and why have I never heard of it? Why can't I find a download link for Odin?
Also, why can't I find any information about Odin?
This is the best I can find, but it appears to not be the maker.... http://www.rootingdroid.com/246/flash-your-samsung-with-odin-download-odin/
The instructions on that page:
" Using your data cable, connect your Android device to your computer. Turn off your mobile device for 30 seconds then power it up by pressing and holding HOME, POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you will be prompted that you have entered in download mode."
I finally got into download mode! I had to connect the USB cable to the device. However, the copy of Odin3 I found is just a giant box with blank text fields. I have no idea what I'm doing with it. It did not auto detect my device, and I have no idea what firmware version I currently am using because I can't get the device to boot.
Just sharing this with All as everybody is not aware of this..
Every Android phone has a safe mode just like we have in windows. This Safe mode can help you uninstall any app which is causing instability of the system. Once you boot your phone in Safe mode it will only run with Stock Apps comes with the phone however you have option to uninstall any downloaded app from App Manager.
To enter in to safe mode in Galaxy S3
Switch off your phone Completely
Switch it on using power button
once you see Samsung logo start pressing the the left touch button at bottom..
You will see you phone will boot in safe mode and a safe mode text will be watermarked on bottom left.
To come out of Safe mode in Galaxy S3 ... Just reboot your phone normally.
Hope this will help

Adding a video
Safe Mode Galaxy II
this one is really simple, at least in my instance.
1 power off
2. remove battery for 1 minute
3 install battery
4 power up and no safe mode.
must be my feng shui luck

I did boot into safe mode on my SIII twice by accidental. I know it is there but just do not know how I did. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
Holding Options button (bottom left) while resetting or powering on will bring you into Safe mode. That could happen by accident.

Yeah .. mine too .. while restart, it went into safe mode several times. After restarting back, all my joined contacts were gone and i had to login to social apps again
Im stuck in safe mode.. I tried the normal reboot... no dice.. any other options
In case you need to get into Safe Mode on your Evo 3d:
1) Turn off the phone
2) Turn on the phone
3) On the second HTC scree - "HTC quietly brilliant"
hold volume down and menu button until the phone completely boots up
If you have been successful it will saw "SAFE MODE" in the bottom left corner.
Reboot phone to get out of Safe Mode
Hope this helps people out.....
What does safe mode do or help on a phone? I'm curious because I didn't even know there was a safe mode for our phone. Is it like putting your computer in safe mode??
This thread explains safe mode in a little more detail. A similar procedure is included in post #3.

I wonder if there is a string we can utilize that will allow us to put it as a Boot Option when we restart?
