Hey guys I stupidly applied the software update yesterday and lost root. Is there a way to get it back now?

just re run the current root methods a couple of ppl said they had to run it twice to get it to work

If you had root before, the su and busybox files are still there - they just don't have the proper permissions. I'm sure there are a few ways to do this, but the manual way would be to run the rage*.bin exploit to temporarily get in as root and change the permissions on the su and busybox files to 4755.
Thanks I will try when I get home tonight

Hey I have a bell atrix which was rooted before an ota update. After the update it was still rooted but did not have root capabilities. I ran root checker and it said I did not have the su binary file. I still had busy box and superuser apk. I now flashed it to the telstra sbf. I tried rooting it and i still cannot achieve a root. All I get is busy box and the apk but no su binary file. I tried every rooting solution even manually rooting the device. It can't even attain a temporary root. If anyone could help me I would be very happy.
Hi,
The binaries in /system/bin are reset with regard to ownership and permissions after the update. The su binary is still there but it is not 06755. Check if you have frozenfish in /osh/sbin/ and use that, or you can try using gingerbreak.
Cheers!
Sorry im kinda new but whats the frozenfish file name

I rooted my RAZR using doom lord method which works amazingly well. Attempted the ics leak and some how bricked my phone deleting a bootstrap file which sent me into boot loop. Downloaded the fast boot files and got back to 173. Got the ics leak installed and working and restored root with voodoo no problem. Everything worked fine until yesterday I updated to su elite and lost root access and restore in voodoo doorkeeper is causing force close and it says device isn't rooted. I tried restore through terminal emulator but access denied. How can I achieve root again running pics leak? Fast boot and start all over?

Why did you update the SU? I guess it was running well before?
I remember there's a root method working for ICS in the forums.
Edit: Maybe you can try this if you have GSM-Razr. I don't know if this will work on CDMA version.
Six axis controller wasn't requesting access so I though it was out dated. I tried the ics root method but it kept failing saying everything already exists....unless their is another method. I unrooted with doom unroot then tried the pics root but also failed

Try the CASUAL by AdamOutler. It's here, somewhere in XDA.
Here it is:

So just tried to update su binary and it says chrcking for busy box....not found and checking for current indstall path....failed also failed to find currently installed su binary
I've tried the casual but did not help I think when I indoor its not removing files from previous roor. Also RAZR bootstrap magically keeps installing itself

Flash your razr again. Wipe data/cache and factory reset then root it again.

Tried reflashing fast boot files with red lite but battery died on last step and phone wont turn on to charge so now I gotta try to make a cable......

For me it worked to charge in fastboot mode just with normal cable, no factory cable. I just waited until it has been shown „battery ok“

So I downloaded VooDoo Root Keeper and backed up my root. Downloaded the OTA update and let it install. Once the phone rebooted I didn't have root, but I went into VooDoo Root Keeper and clicked Restore root. And Root Checker now report I have ROOT once again...
You have to reboot after restoreing root to get apps to work that require root.
And?

Lucky, i installed with nothing to backup root.
Even after installing complete stock, then updating it failed... I don't think this update likes my phone very much.
If I remember reading this correctly you have no problem getting root, it's just that you lose access to custom recoveries.. So therefore kind of pointless to update since you can't run custom roms
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
From what I read you will lose root with the OTA and not be able to re-root with the current known method. Am I wrong?

I agree the future custom roms will have the parts of the update we want and not the major part we don't. I'll never give up my custom recovery!!
Well I haven't ran any custom roms on this yet... But this is still helpful ad I do run AdAway, Faceniff and WifiKill... which all require Root .

root without recovery is better than no root...
Not to be a party pooper, but why is this in the development section?

It seems to have worked!
Following this process I was able to keep my root, have not tried using recovery though.
Use OTA RootKeeper to protect root, take OTA update, restore root using RootKeeper, update binaries using SuperSU. Existing apps that use root still work as expected!
Glad it worked for you too.
Has anyone else achieved this? I'm tempted to do it but obviously concerned as I do not want to lose root. I'm sure not every phone is the same.
Also, does anyone know if the OTA will work if you have frozen apps ( including frozen bloatware)?
sorry for the noob question, I got my 1st android device a couple weeks ago and I'm trying to get up to speed quickly.
I see some people saying they want to unroot to take the VRUAME7 update... and I see others saying they took the update which caused them to loose root privileges. So I'm still trying to determine if I need to (or should) unroot to take the update.
I have the stock ROM, so can I just take the update without unrooting first? If the update succeeds, what are the drawbacks of not unrooting prior to the update?
Note: I do plan to unroot first. this question is mostly just for my understanding.
If you unroot prior to the me7 update you will not be able to get it back. If you keep root with voodoo through the ota you lose custom recovery/ability to rom.

So guys my S4's GPU went out on me so i had to get a refurb. Im very happy that its still on MDK firmware but its trying to push the update, which is why im thinking its not allowing me to root it. Ive followed all the steps but once i run the moto exploit it doesnt allow me to select any options on my phone to finish the root process.
Any ideas would be great guys
What are you taking about? The only thing you do on your phone is update supersu when it tells you to. Everything else is done in the motochopper console.

So I was rooted and I ran a security program just checking viruses and I saw a virus thing called Android exploit root.. So I searched up Android Exploit Root but nothing came up except how to root and other stuff so I just deleted the things that the virus scanner said there were two a system root app and a data file I don't actually know .. but it couldn't be deleted so I installed a system app uninstaller and uninstalled the system app which was called Kinguser and after that I restarted my phone and root was gone I tried to re root but nope it fails I kept on trying but nope.. well I searched up how to unroot and I was supposed to deleted the su file in system/xbin or system/bin but I didn't do that first now I'm stuck... Also I tried to install a stock firmware but I couldn't find any for my phone. My Phone is Galaxy Core Advance! HELP I NEED TO ROOT AGAIN!

Kinguser is the root app hence why you no longer have root. I would suggest flashing something like supersu or even superuser

Not necessarily, if no custom recovery is available you can still root it. You already have had the device rooted once

Like I said I did install it while I had kingroot but deleted after about an hour ago but I think the busybox files are still there in my phone Im not sure still dont have root though
This has worked for me before. Just run the King user app, don't even try to re root it. The app should try to fix itself and *MAY* install your missing files. It has worked for me countless times. Hope it helps.
You are the best THANKS SO MUCH
