[Q] Contacts question! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I just bought a vibrant (bell) loaded with android 2.2 from a friend of mine, using it with rogers, I used to have a SE x10a. I made a mistake and didnt backup my contacts to my SIM, but I have a recent backup on the SDcard when it was in my x10. I was wondering if there's a way to import those contacts from the SDcard, onto my vibrant.
Is there a way?
Thanks.

You have a Vibrant with 2.2?
There are a number of ways to do it.
If you've got all your contacts on the SD card, yeah, just import on your new phone.
I recently migrated from a Blackberry and the way I did it was to export my Blackberry contacts to Gmail and then sync Gmail contacts on my new Vibrant. You should have it even easier because you can just sync on your Xperia, switch out sim to Vibrant and sync contacts there. If you've got all your contacts on the SD card, yeah, just import on your new phone.

D'oh, double post!

Trying to get contacts off the phone onto my gmail account

So I need to format the phone so I can apply the update. My contacts on my phone aren't online in my gmail. I need to save them there so I can then sync them back after I reformat the phone.
I have tried getting this to work on the phone and it is a no go. I can't get it to sync online and save the contacts. Anyone know how to get this to work?
there are several ways of doing this.
* use contact2sim pro and copy phone contacts to sim. then format phone and import contacts from sim to phone.
* convert all ur phone contacts to google contacts in phone and sync with gmail.
* mybackup pro does sumthing similar. though i dint try this. u can give it a shot. cheers
contact2sim work the same as the pro version. I just want to back the contacts up and then back onto the phone after I format.
How would I go about converting my contacts on my phone to google contacts?
Thanks in advance.

Anybody help with that?
Yep, I second that question. In fact, instead of having 1 set of contacts for Google, and one set for my Outlook contacts I would like them to be merged.
The same with the calendars. Everything I change in Outlook I would like to have reflected on my gmail account, without the need of a 3rd part application on the PC.

How do you back up Contacts?

Im rather confused by how to go about backing up my contacts. Ever since google started backing up contacts, I haven’t quite understood which contacts (sim, phone or both???) it backs up. Is there any good application which backs up all of your contacts, that is , those saved in your sim, phone and google account, altogether.
I flashed bionix V 1.3.1 last night and used ‘MyBackup Root’ & ‘Titanium backup’
to restore my contacts. First I restored user applications with data and all of my contacts were back. Then I used ‘My Backup Root’ to restore contacts. (I don’t know why I took this step). It started erasing all of my contacts before restoring. When it got done, I realized I was missing my contacts saved in sim card.
This is all sooo confusing that I don’t know how to get my sim contacts back.
why did u use the other software once u had used titanium backup?
kies does it aswell ??

Hi, I used My Backup to backup my contact before & restore it after I change to other ROM.
However, it seems the My Backup will erase all your contacts in your SIM card as well after you restore. The WORST part is it restored the contact & store as Google contact. You can't export the contact to SIM card anymore then.
Luckily I have backup in my old phone & imported back into the SIM card & reload it again.
My advise, try Go Contacts app. This app do the tricks where export your phone contact into SD Card & imported back flawlessly.
Why not just have all your contacts inside of Google? And each time you addd a contact, make sure it's being added to your google account. I've been on Android since the G1... never 'backed up' a contact.. Just logged in to my google account on the phone and had them there.
or you can simply read the noob guide in this forum and follow the steps that are proven to be used by alot of people....
I stoted all contacts in Google account, everytime upgrading to new rom, synchronize contact again, all of them will be availabe in your mobile. It's my simple solution.

I dont know of a way to get your contacts saved to your google account AFTER you have already chosen to save them to phone or SIM. I'm pretty sure you only get that option once. I would think you'd have to go thru each individual contact(omg, that sux) maybe erase and then resave and choose ur google account as the location to store. As stated before saving to ur google account is the best option to backup contacts

This is exactly what happened... I couldnt have explained it better myself. My Backup erased all of the contacts (both on sim and phone) before restoring and restored contacts to google. It is important to note that it did not restore contacts that were saved on sim to google. However, when I go into 'My Backup' app and view the data i have backed up. I can see all the contacts (both sim and phone contacts) in there. I will never use 'MyBackup' to backup my contacts.
The reason I dont save all of my contacts to google is I, for odd reasons, sometimes have to use (though rarely) my old school phone. I just insert my sim in it and i get all my contacts.
Google backup/sync and ubuntu one mobile.

^This about sums it up
Well .. Vibrant already has the import/exper function. Try using it and after flashing, open the .vcf file in your external mem card and it will extract your contacts to your phone.

[Q] How to copy contacts to GT-P7500

How can I copy all my contacts from my Galaxy S GT-I9000 to my GT-P7500? I need both my phone and SIM contacts.
Thanx.
What I did on my galaxy 3, but should work on all Samsung phones is: on contacts go to options then export to sd. A folder named external_sd will be created on the sd containing your contacts as 00001.vcf file. Copy them to your PC, then the tab, or sent them with bluetooth directly to the tab. Then on the tab go to contacts>options and finally import from sd. Find your file and click ok.
Hope I helped. I'm actually getting the tab on Wednesday and not 100% sure if it works that way.
sent from my CM7 nokia 3210
Thanx. Actually I forgot that I was able to import directly from the sim card so I took the sim from my SGS, loaded it into my tab and then simply imported from the sim to my tab.
PS. I love Pink Floyd too!
If you sync your contacts with google they should just be there when you sign in to your google account. Just like apps.

[Q] Missing contacts

When I flash Wanamlite V7.5 I can't see my sim contacts.
I can't import them from my sim but when flashing back to Gingerbread my contacts are there.
Anyone with the same issue?
Most android users backup their contacts with google.... so no matter if you change your rom or your phone, your contacts are always there...

Phone contacts, import to other Android device

So after 2 years on the HTC Aria, two phones are swapped (not literally since still have the Aria's) for Samsung Galaxy S3.
One of the HTC Aria's uses Gmail to save/sync contacts so it will automatically update phone contacts, the other has always stored phones/names in the phone itself.
Both Aria's are rooted.
What's the simplest way to save the phone contacts and bring them into the Samsung ? Since there is no SIM card on the new Android device, can't use a SIM card to transfer over. Export to a .vcf file on the SDCard does work but can the Samsung import contacts from there ?
Any suggestions ?
Will answer this myself in case it helps someone else.
I installed Android Sync Manager from marketplace, setup WiFi on home router, downloaded to laptop the PC app and contacts were transferred over as comma delimited file which I can import to Samsung device.

Importing the .vcf file should work. It's a basic standard, not something "aria-specific" or even "android-specific"
.vcf file is standard. It would work on any phones running Android OS.
