At some point, I got an error that one of my apps couldn't find a file it pointed to. I went to Astro and discovered that "/sdcard" was inaccessible. So, I rebooted, after which it was accessible again, but all the folders I had added were gone without a trace.
How did this happen? When I plug the phone in to my PC, I usually click to "eject" on the PC before disconnecting the cable (although I don't notice any effect on the phone from the eject action). Should I be doing something on the phone instead?
And in any case, do I have to worry about file structure corruption, or is that something that the phone fixes on its own? This aspect of Android is new to me, so any help would be appreciated!
It just happened again!
This started after I installed Go Launcher, but I don't know if that's just a coincidence or not. Right now, I'm not even using it, I installed LauncherPro - and that's my default at the moment.
Does anyone know what's causing me to lose entire folders for no visible reason?
I'm having this same issue. I tried both Gladiatrix and Gingerblur and it's happened once on each so far. After a reboot, my internal SD will just be cleared out. Apps and such are fine, just anything in Sdcard folder.
Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening?
For me, I'm not sure if it happens after a reboot - I have specifically noticed it happen right after unplugging the USB cable. Now, one of the times it might have been after a reboot, I'm just not sure.
If anyone can help shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated!
I should also note that some of the folders are still there, but everything in them is gone. The folders that remain seem to be ones created by apps (camera's DCIM, dropbox, titanium backup). Folders I created (music, notifications, ringtones) are gone.

Yes! That's it, exactly! All folders created by the system, or apps are still there (I can't vouch for the contents, though, since I never checked what was inside them).
But all the folders I created are gone.
Someone's got to know what this is.
Looks like we are the only two having this issue Haphim, lol.
I've unmounted and formatted my internal SD card from within android. Reloaded everything on it and so far so good. I've rebooted a bunch of times to try and get it to do it again but I can't. Hopefully this fixes it. Will keep you updated.
Just did it again. This time it erased all folders. Again it was after a reboot. Next step is when i get home to sbf back to stock, and either keep it that way or re-root and install custom rom. I'm starting to think it could just be a bad internal sd card.
I bought this phone on ebay. Has anyone ever dealt with trying to get a phone repaired they bought off ebay? Anything i should know?

Well, my phone is brand new, bought from Amazon - so I'm not sure your source is the cause. If you do some searching, you'll see a number of other people have experienced this as well, so it's not limited to just us.
Perhaps we need to contact Motorola, I don't know.
Yea I might contact motorola soon.
I just noticed, in the /mnt directory, I keep getting new folders with the name "usbdisk_1.x". So far I have 1.0-1.7. Is this normal? could it be part of the issue?
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
update: I sbf'd back to stock. Left it that way for half a day, rebooting a bunch of times. SDcard never wiped. I just installed greyblur a few hours ago and so far so good with that too. Restarted a bunch and no issues yet. Will keep you updated.

That's great news! But that leaves the question on whether the problem is being caused by one of the other apps you had installed (or maybe even the 1.57 update).
I look forward to seeing how this turns out for you.
I suppose it could have been an app. I've be installing all the apps I use as I go. I decided it would be best to not restore apps using titanium.
I think it's pretty safe to say flashing to stock and starting over fixed this for me. No issues in the past couple days. Rebooting a lot just to be sure. :-D

Unless Motorola tells you otherwise, I wouldn't bother, because I don't think swapping the phone will get you anywhere. You and I are not the only ones with this issue.
Unless Motorola tells you it's hardware, then either it's a bug on the O/S, or it's a bug with one (or more) of the apps we're using. And in either of the two latter cases, swapping phones won't make a difference.
Since I'm pretty sure I've seen people complain about this issue with *different* models of Android phones, I'm guessing the problem is not hardware.
For what it's worth, I got rid of Go Launcher, and I haven't seen the problem happen since. It's not a guarantee of course, but prior to that, my internal sdcard was getting wiped at least once a day.
I'd recommend troubleshooting this via the half life method. Uninstall half of your apps and see if the problem re-occurs. If enough time passes that you're certain you're in the clear, re-install half of the apps you uninstalled and test again. Keep doing that until you figure out the culprit.
I hope you're wrong, only because I sent mine back and ordered a brand new one. I didn't want to bother trying with Motorola on the first one I bought because I got it on ebay and had a limited window to return it in. If the new one has issues, I'll call them up.
So, I've been jumping back and forth between Atrix CM9 and CM7 roms and running the .36p radio. Yesterday on CM9, i started getting a large amounts of random reboots and finally got things settled by doing a factory reset in CWM and flashing a clean cm9 rom. However, whenever I turned on wifi, the phone would crash and reboot to the Dual Core logo. I tried flashing another CM9 rom and it didn't crash, but the wifi radio would never seem to pick up any AP's (i'm at home).
I've gone as far as changing to the .37p radio and going back to cm7 to no avail... I'm a bit worried I might have "fried" the wifi radio on the phone.
Did you do a full wipe? Use fastboot to wipe properly before flashing any ROM. Plenty of threads with instructions.

Looking at the fast boot command, I'm not sure how that does anything different then the clockwork mod wipe... but I will give it a shot.

Sorry, but your wifi/bluetooth card is dead. My Atrix got the exact same symptoms a few days ago. Both WiFi and bluetooth are on the same chip. When the system tries to reference them, it fails to locate the hardware and crashes/reboots.
In fact, in researching this topic, I found dozens of threads about this. We should make a sticky about it at this point. Best Buy was kind enough to take back my phone (unlocked bootloader, rooted, cwm, custom fonts, startup, etc.) if I restored it all to stock. If you want Motorola/AT&T/the store you purchased it at to not void your warranty, you should flash the 2.3.6 SBF. Just be cautious and read all about it. But that is the only way that Motorola will service a modded phone

Nothing like the same. Clockwork wipe only does data and cache. You erase boot, system, preinstall, cache, user, webtop, etc., via fastboot. I've posted the procedure probably more than 20 times before.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Yeah unfortunately even after a fastboot wipe, the phone's bluetooth and wifi were gone. I was also over the year warranty. Luckily, I picked up a barely used one on Craigslist and restored my backup to it. Now i've got an expensive battery charger (and spare phone should i need it).
If there were any tips you'd have on restoring to a new phone? I've restored my phone a lot and worked on a lot of android phones (I work at a repair shop), but I've never restored data/settings from one phone to another. Of course its the same model, but I can only imagine the issues that could arise out of such an operation
Thanks!
I just made sure I did a fastboot full wipe of the new phone, then placed my clockworkmod directory on the internal (external should be ok too) storage and did a restore. After the restore, I re-flashed the latest version of the rom I was running on top of it with Google apps and it booted fine. Afterwards, I made sure to do a permissions repair and reboot.
Yeah, it seems like a lot of people are having this problem. Like me for example :[
So far there is no solution that I'm aware of, after trying practically everything I could think of and find on the internet... I'm pretty sure it's hardware related. I bet the phone just isn't very high quality. How much did it cost again? $600? + all of the dumb accessories for it. Normally when you see a pattern of failures you would call it a design flaw, but apparently when it comes to expensive electronics they call it out of warranty.

For anyone interested, here is a supposed solution to the problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYz_RiuFVRk
It will require you to open the phone up, and solder the "wifi battery" into place. I'm not sure what the hell that thing is, but that guy in the video called it a battery. Voids warranty etc. Good luck.

So... I have FJ Mod on my note. Things have been running great for a long time. Then a few days a go, out of the blue, google voice was constantly crashing. Then the gapps process. Then it got ridiculous and everything would crash. Then I noticed that when I restart, it saves nothing that I had done. For instance, my call log, text messages, moved icons on my homepage.
I did a wipe in CWM, and everything came back the exact same. Still the same problem, icons still in the wrong place... no idea whats going on.
Has anyone got any advice for me? I was going to try and put a new ROM on later if worse comes to worse, but as is, this is very frustrating. I often have to restart my phone just to use the browser, or message, or anything really. I am just hoping that my internal SD isn't screwed some how and now allowing me to write to it. I haven't done any changes. I don't even believe I have downloaded any apps since a week or so prior to this issue.
Flashing with ODIN did not good either. I tried to revert back to stock. It uploaded with no issues apparently, and then when it rebooted I was back in ICS with everything as it was... argh.
Find one of the the ics leaka one click Odin packages and run that. Should wipe everything, and then you just have to flash cwm and root again.

Well, I tried something similar with a rogers stock rom. Booted up Odin, connected to issues. Uploaded/transferred no issues. Figured I'd be on stock Gingerbread upon bootup, but it was ICS! I've done this and similar on multiple phones, not sure whats happening. I will try again with a different rom as you suggested tonight.
I know where the leaks are...this loser has them here....

I had the EXACT problem, out of the blue as well. I didn't have the other stated problems in your OP but I did have the one quoted above. First voice , then a few google apps(gmail, drive, etc). The apps would hang for a few 1-2 minutes (felt like hours) and the phone including capacitive buttons became unresponsive and couldn't do anything with the phone. The "wait" or "ok" buttons on the force close popup were not clickable.. It sorted itself out in a few days and boy did it drive me NUTS. I was afraid to post up here in fear people would think I was nuts and did something myself to make things go so awry. I was convinced I myself was nuts.. im by no means daft when it comes to android dev/tinkering lol. Very strange

Well I was impatient and tried 2 different roms right away. Neither worked. Odin showed "pass", no errors. Then it does its auto-restart and bam, back where I was. Not having the best of luck with this right now.
Any other ideas would be appreciated!

LOL I actually waited a few days before posting here too. I was hoping that maybe uninstalling and reinstalling some, or updated, or clearing cache and all that would help. As you can see, it did nothing. Heck, after I restart my updates didnt even stick and Google Play is trying to download them again!
Well... still no luck.
Here is another thing I noticed. When I hook up the note to my PC, and look at it, I cannot access my external SD. Furthermore, I had a file on my internal SD that I deleted. When I restarted my phone the file was back. Yet in windows it removed without error. I have no idea what is happening at all.
And now its reading it again........ Ive literally been sitting here trying a bunch of different ways to fix this. Playing around in CWM, trying ODIN including a couple 1 click solutions. The one starts writing to NAND, then stops and gives me an error.
Try taking out your sd card and running it for a while. First note i got was acting that way from the get go. Took it back and got a new one. It started doing the same thing. Finally took out sd card and ran great. Card was going bad. I had replaced the 8 gb stock card with the 16 gb one i had in another phone and apparently the mote didn't like it.

Did you, by any chance, install a custom kernal? IIRC, one of them messed with the mount points. By far, the only way to fix your issue immediately will involve restoring to stock through ODIN, then rerooting and reflashing CWM. This will 100% mark your Note as either defective, or prove that it's a problem in another area. However, I don't believe your problem is with your SD Card, unless you've been using an app like apps2sd.
If you're weary about doing this, try to reflash CWM, or TWRP to figure out if it's something going on with the recovery partition and/or settings. I'm no expert, but the only thing I'm aware of that sticks around through a wipe, and multiple flashes are our recovery, our internal SD files (possible), and sometimes the modem. Also, the one click leaks include a not loader, which could prevent you from restoring a GB Nandroid.
By flashing CWM, then TWRP, then CWM again, or sticking with TWRP, you at least knock out one variable...and by reformatting your internal SD, you ensure no resources are sticking around.
Edit:are you using TiBu to backup and restore/migrate after a flash? Verify your backups under the batch lost.
What could be happening, is you're restoring data in CWM, or TiBu, or w/e ap you're using, and then the Google account sync restore is restoring your settings, and replacing the desired ones, or vice versa.
Edit again: Which launcher are you using? Which utilities do you use? What are your main root apps?
The backup verify is a must...but some launchers will scoot icons out of the way. If you're having a touch screen issue, or an S Pen issue, you could be draggn items around when you're not aware of it.
I'll see this through. You've caught my interest.

Also, tap USB utilities in settings, by the other FJ mods, and tap the selection there, then check to see if you can find your SD card through your PC.
In addition to the above, you can also enter the "Tools" section of FJmods, and disable ad blocking, remove touchwiz UI, s voice, etcetera, and return ALL settings too default, and remove all extras. You can reflash recovery there too.

I had installed a custom kernel on Gingerbread before, but obviously that was replaced with the one I used with FJmod. It had been operating fine for over a month.
Also, I removed my SD Card, and tried everything without it. I have tried restoring gingerbread stock and ICS stock through both ODIN and CWM. Even formatting through CWM does nothing as when I restart I am back to normal.
As for root, I only had 2-3 programs with access. ES File Manager/Task manager, and I tried one called Lucky Patcher (I will verify this evening). All of these had been on for at least a week prior to all this beginning.
I havent been using TiBu for anything at all actually.
The launcher I am using at the moment is Nova.
Other than that, I am going to try a few of your suggestions once I am done work. I will post my results tonight!
Thanks for the suggestions and info, greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Just to be clear. I am formatting then restarting and all my apps, icon placements and wallpaper return. Even my call history is stuck up to the 13th and erases recent calls. I am also trying to revert to stock ICS and Gingerbread through both ODIN and CWM. After it is done installing through ODIN and reboots, I return to the way my phone was before. Same with CWM. After flashing through CWM I return right back to the way it was. I am not doing any restoring or anything. I have done this plenty of times in the past before. The only thing I can possibly imagine at this point is that my SD is somehow stuck on read only. Yet it is weird because again, I can delete files and apps (and even windows shows them as gone), but after a restart they are all back! I can remove apps, but they are still in the app menu too.... I can even run them lol (even after deleting their folder). The phone is stuck in stasis.
All of this just happened one day out of the blue. No new apps (for at least a week) too.
I have a GTab that had the EXACT same symptoms.. turns out it's internal flash memory was bad, not the microSD. going for broke I opened it up and desoldered the flash memory IC and it uses the microSD now as its primary storage. If even after a stock reflash you have problems I hope you have warranty.

Well its currently stuck on FJ Mod (which I think is a great rom), and then it just started acting up. I cannot restore Gingerbread stock, or ICS stock, or anything else. ODIN and CWM both show completed on my attempts, but upon reboot my device is back exactly where it left off on the 13th.
I picked up the S3 and I like it, but I miss my note badly
When I first received my Galaxy Player, I was ecstatic; my first Android device! Well that was back in June 2012 and now it's becoming more of a frustration than anything!
I got into the modding scene just like the old days with the Sony PSP so I've rooted the device and flashed many ROMs over the months. I've found some really nice setups and learned a lot. I've ended up with the following setup and I love it:
Galaxy Player 5 International
Kernel: rj's custom kernel for Galaxy Player 5.0 INTL (YP-G70) r14
ROM: G70XXKPH Gingerbread 2.3.6 Stock Firmware
Launcher: Xperia Home 2.2.A.0.14.ra3al.r7
Since the Galaxy Player doesn't have support any variant of ICS with a working camera I went after the best GB ROM I could find. I've tried Chip, Entropy and others but they've all had their problems and I moved on to my current one. I can actually hear the Android tap sounds on this when I touch an icon like in the stock GB ROM! Among other reasons I believe this ROM to be my best option.
As for launchers, I've been through all the popular ones including all of the TouchWiz's, Go Launcher, Holo and now Xperia. This one is absolutely amazing! I love nearly everything about it, especially the animations and layouts! It pairs really nicely with the weather widget app too!
I finally get all of this setup and performing smoothly and quite fast too! But of course there has to be problems ~
The biggest problem is the card reader very often hiccups and thinks the cards are damaged or have been unmounted or removed randomly. This happens with more than 2 of my cards so it's the device itself!
Frequently random crashes where I cannot turn the display or anything on, requires hard reboot.
The camera very occasionally winds up with a disabled touch screen after taking a picture.
The camera often doesn't even load past a black screen with the status bar to the side.
Etc..
I'm starting to think it's best to stick with the Stock ROM and use my favorite Launcher and Kernel and avoid all this hassle! Although I was under the impression that I AM using the stock ROM, minus the tweaks mentioned on the developer's thread. Does anyone know why I'm having all of these problems?
My goal is to get this device back to factory default settings including ROM and Kernel. I just got the thing in a bootloop after flashing the stock ROM via Odin so I'm trying to figure that out. I'm also having difficulty finding the legit stock ROM and possibly Kernel, where could I get those if you don't mind?

Latest legit stock ROM is linked from the end of the KPH thread. It includes the kernel.
However, no stock kernel supports the ext4 filesystem. That means if your /data or /cache are formatted to ext4, it cannot read them and bootloops. To fix, either go into recovery and wipe data and cache, or if you have things on there that you don't want to lose, flash Rumirand's kernel again with Odin, go into cwm, and make a nandroid. You will still have to wipe data from "Android System Recovery" after flashing stock, but you will have a backup.

Thanks for the tip! I was wondering how to get back into recovery since holding down and/or home wasn't working at this point. Didn't remember that you could flash r14 with Odin. I'll have to try that!
Do you have any experience with the complaints I have about the device or am I the only one who's device tends to act up this way?

No, I haven't experienced them, but I spend most of my time on ROMs where camera is broken. Your issues sound specific to your device, or to your ROM/kernel. I recommend upgrading to XXKPL, as that may help.
And I believe on International devices recovery is vol UP and home, not down.

That was a typo, I meant to say "Up+Home", Down is download mode lol, woops.
My new setup (before reading your post):
Kernel: r14
Firmware: 2.3.6
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXKPH
What's the difference between XXKPH and XXKPL?
Update: I'm trying to flash XXKPL with Odin but it just makes the device bootloop. I'm even using a .pit named "G70-GalaxyPlayer5.0-8gig-Inter_model_2.3.5" but it just bootloops. So I'm figuring it's due to that file extension situation and I'm trying to figure out how to properly flash this Stock (XXKPL) ROM properly.
Update: Okay! It seems all you need to do is flash rem's r14 kernel and the device boots right up. Shame there's no one click fix to just flash the Stock ROM without issue like with flashing a custom ROM through CWM Recovery Menu.
Now I'm sitting at:
ROM: Stock G70XXKPL
Firmware: 2.3.6
Kernel: Rem's R14
I look forward to the first problem in this setup!
The new JB roms are in Nightly betas. So far all of the things that we are missing from it are Camera (kinda works), functionality for the earphones/headphones (you have to plug in earphones with a mic and then all of the other types work). That's really the only major problems I can remember and they are all close to being fixed.

That's pretty impressive! I had no idea they were that far along in JB! I could search for it myself but I'd probably find the wrong thing, could you give me a link to this particular JB Project please? I really want to follow and support it!
Ah and of course all day I've been dealing with this device of mine misbehaving! Every time I pull it out of my pocket and try to wake it up it just doesn't respond, no lights no screen, there's nothing. I have to keep hard booting it every few hours!
The worst thing is the camera almost never loads anymore! Either the default or my Camera Zoom FX app. I launch it and it never fully loads up or if it does it either takes 1 pic and then the touch screen doesn't respond. Or it says there's a problem with the SD card like it's missing or damaged so it doesn't save the pictures.
There is always something with this device I'm so annoyed with it -_-. Any help or advice? Because I'm at my whit's end here with ideas!
Update: I'm actually starting to suspect the Xperia S Home Launcher as the problem here. I noticed this did mostly start to get worse when I installed it and so far since I removed every Xperia-related software and went to default TouchWiz that it's performing just fine. I hope it stays this way but what a shame, I really like the Xperia Launcher. Even more than my favorite Go Launcher Ex! D:

Thanks for that! I was under the impression that CyanOgen 10.1 was the main JB ROM. Glad I asked lol.
Btw a little update with my Galaxy Player!
The Good:
So far, since I've switched back to TouchWiz and dropped Xperia (sadface), my device has not locked up on me!
The camera also stays functional!
The Bad:
"SD card unexpectedly removed" continues to randomly occur (as I'm writing this)! Why? The card is still in there, I never touched it.
Still, when I power it down, the device sometimes hangs at the black screen and never completes the process!
Must reboot first to connect USB to PC. Even with USB Debugging disabled and Mass Storage selected.
Is this normal? I'm seriously starting to wonder..

Is not normal... Never got ext. SD Card unmounted or remove notification in 4 months of use. My advice was to try with another SD Card but you already done this!
Try clean the SD Card socket (blow on it) and push and pop some times the card, just to be sure that there isn't some dirt that make false contact.
If the problem persist i'd suggest to bring at garancy assistence.
Mine takes much time too... it takes more time to turn off that turn on, but after an half minute it vibrate and turn off itself.

I just tried using air pressure to clear out any dirt and no improvements thus far.
Main problems:
Camera works 50% of the time.
SD Card reader randomly claims 'unexpectedly unmounted'.
USB storage randomly stops successfully connecting.
My question now:
I feel like my particular Galaxy Player is a Lemon. What is the manufacture's warranty for this if I bought it from Samsung? What are the chances of me exchanging it or getting it refurbished or w/e after all this modding? (shot in the dark lol)

Awesome, then I'll stick to KPL for now. Oddly enough I have this setup:
ROM: KPL
Kernel: Remirand's r14
Launcher: Xperia (i can't help it!)
And so far the only persistent issue is the SD Card "unexpectedly removed" and the occasional need for a hard boot. Hopefully this is the worst of it, aside from the minor nuisance . I think my device will always have those.
similar problems
I have similar SD card problems. I use it primarily as a music player, and at random intervals I'll get messages in the stock music app saying either "This file does not exist", or "This file type is not recognized."
Typically, I have to remove and remount the SD card, sometimes several times, to clear the error.
Ya my problems are all still persisting an really bad now.. Going to send device to samsung through warranty. This is definitely a hardware issue and i cant fix it!

Yeah, I gave up on it. Returning it to Amazon today.
I'm testing out my Galaxy Tab as a music player...seems to work OK so far.

If only I had these problems within the first 30 days, then I could return it easy to Amazon as well. Hopefully I have success with Samsung Warranty. One annoying thing is I have only 10 days to make sure the device arrives at their site before my claim ticket is canceled so I have to wait to create a new ticket to use it. Such a hassle.

It looks to me that I just hard bricked my phone by using lagfix. When I ran lagfix, it reported successful in trimming my /data and /cache. However after a reboot the system is unstable and suffers from sudden crashes. Now 90% of the time it does not boot at all. Once in a while it could boot but would crash in 1-2 minutes of any usage.
I blame my stupidity and would never ever use lagfix again on any Android devices. I do have a few backup dumb phones and can live without a smart phone for a few months since I have many tablets including the Nexus 7. I'm sharing this as a precaution that the brickbug does affect Amaze 4G.
For people who are familiar with the brickbug, is there any hope that I can recover my phone? Or should I just throw it away?
Thanks in advance.

I don't know if there is a way to fix it but, if there isn't don't throw it away. Sell it for parts.

Thanks.... I used lagfix on /cache and /data. As a result, I believe part of /cache or potentially some part of /data is also corrupted. It's a bit weird because I actually could boot up the phone sometimes and even keep it on for a long time. What I noticed was as soon as I do a lot of swipe (likely using "cache") the phone would freeze and crash shortly. I'm wondering if it would be possible to flash /data and /cache onto an sdcard and mount them on it instead? If so, the phone would still be usable though may be a bit inconvenient to use.
If you can get into recovery flash a rom.

Thanks. But I tried and the phone cannot stay stable without crash for more than a few minutes in active usage. I think I'll need to repartition the phone to avoid corrupted blocks. I may need to start an unbrick project during my spare time... Actually the phone is now quite unstable and sometimes even fails to boot into recovery. However, it is very weird that if I turn it off for some time, it seems to "cool down" and be able to boot again... As a result, the phone is not usable for daily usage.

I did multiple times and even did repartitioning. I found multiple times that the reformatted partitions still contain bad blocks. (with final message like 5%-12% non-contiguous) The repartitioning techniques were from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1862294.
I was able to sometimes get clean partitions. However, I failed to install CM10.1 and ARHD roms on the custom partitions. CM10.1 would crash with a lot of errors like android.process.acore force close and then phone gets turned off.
ARHD could not pass the quietly brilliant screen for a few minutes so I had to remove the battery. Eventually I ran RUU back to stock again...Now I'm thinking if I want to repeat the process to do repartitioning... I wish there were an app to identify "good blocks" on the emmc so I can customize the partitions only on good blocks. Strangely, if I leave the phone off for about 5-10 minutes I always can reboot successfully...but then it always dies once some bad blocks are accessed......
I think I have a good idea now what happened.
My phone was very unstable because I installed HTC Sync and it keeps starting adb servers in parallel to the Google adb server. This caused a lot of weird behaviors including random crashes while I was working on it. My Amaze is also S-ON so all the partition modifications failed and HTC keeps resetting the partition table back to the original ---> thus forcing all of my roms installed on the faulty /cache and /data partitions. As soon as anything hits the corrupted blocks the phone crashes. Since Amaze has a big 16GB emmc, in theory I should be able to repartition the phone to skip the faulty /cache and /data blocks by reducing my sdcard size by 2.3GB and create new /cache and /data partitions on the "good" blocks..
Of course, in order to prove the theory I have to S-OFF first...
I think I'll work on it in the next few days and see what happens...
I was happy with S-ON and stock rom+root.
I guess the only way to save this phone is to S-OFF and repartition.
Lessons learned:
1. Rename the adb.exe that comes with HTC Sync
2. DO NOT USE lagfix with HTC Amaze...ever...(no fstrim should be used, either.)
3. S-OFF is required for any real hacking...
