Which debrand to use!! - XPERIA X10 Android Development

Which Firmware do I need to use to debrand my phone considering the info below? I've read like 10 threads here about debranding but everything got me confused and I'm desperate to debrand because my carrier has configured everything needed for Internet and MMS and they cannot get my cel to work. Could someone post a link to the download and point me into one thread that I can use to debrand it?

I am currently using the phone in Honduras, Central America with carrier TIGO.

I believe you can use this method

Easy to do, works first time as well
Vengeance

Your firmware is fine.
The problem is that in the American region we use the X10a (Tigo uses the 850 frequency for its 3G Data), your phone wont be able to use 3G in America because the X10i doesn't support the 850 frequency for 3G data, you will still be able to use EDGE over GSM with your phone since it is a QUAD BAND GSM phone - try setting your phone to only use GSM (Is is under Settings > Wireless)

Hi already tried using only GSM. Do you think I should debrand to X10a?

If you still think that you need to debrand, use the LATAM firmware from CLARO GT. That should make your phone behave more or less like a X10a. I debranded mine from CLARO GT to the Generic NA or Generic LATAM and both work fine here in El Salvador. YOu can eve use ROGERs form the post about debranding, use FLASHTOOL.

Hey thanks for the tip!! I got it working now! I flashed my X10i to X10a so it matches the TIGO frequency using this method by Grospolina (just applied step 1)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7490733#post7490733
After this my model is now X10a Generic LAM(b) Customized. So I just applied the APN's again and it started working with Edge.
For rooting it I used the Standalone X10 root.apk v. 1.06 http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1281606816 and installed Market Access.
Thanks!!!

Does are good new.
Enjoy your stay in Central America.

MMH he said that R2BA026 is X10i, im in canada and i installed the R2BA026 rom and my phone says its a X10i in the about. BUT I STILL HAVE MY 3G..!!

Yes, when you have an branded Version, u must use the instructions to debrand it. But u can upgrade without any Problems. When Your phone is unbranded use the Sony Ericsson Update service, it will find the update. Save your old frimware when u decide to debrand it, so u can brand it back for warranty reasons.
Sounds great.
You have to know, that this is my first Android device. Before, I jsut used webOS and WinMo.

This might be a stupid question but I'm running R1FA016 (was originally running R1FA014, Vodafone UK but flashed the phone) however when I go into the service menu it states that it's customized. I was under the impression that R1FA016 is unbranded.
To get into the service menu press menu, back, back, menu, back, menu, menu, back when the phone is locked.
I'm getting my info from the first option 'Model Info'.
Any ideas or am I being stupid?
I have R1FA016 version x10, bought it from o2 in uk, its not sim locked and it doesnt apear to be branded either, but it says customized too

Running Brazil firmware on X10i, Tmobile US. Everything is peachy... testing now.

The U20a info thread.

The u20a is the 850MHz/1900MHz/2100MHz version of the Mini Pro, I figured I'd start a thread to help consolidate information specific to this version of the handset.
If you live in the US, Canada, Central and South America (Check with your carrier), New Zealand (Using NZ Telecom) or Bangladesh, this is the version you want for 3G support.
For Australian's this is the version to buy for use on Telstra and 3 Hutchinson. For Vodafone Au they use both 850 and 900 as well as 2100MHz, if you never go regional you may benefit from the u20a as Vodafone are now deploying 850MHz for infil of some of their their 2100MHz urban networks, their regional and fringe services are 900MHz mostly and require a u20i. Optus is 2100/900 only so you'd want a u20i.
Officially language support for all u20a models seems to be English, Spanish, Portuguese and French with American specific customisations to those languages in most builds.
The u20a currently available in the Australian Market via carriers 3 and Telstra.
As far as I know it is (or will be) available in Canada via Rogers, Through SE and various carriers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Peru, Columbia, Mexico and also other parts of Central and South America.
There appears to be a Sony US Generic firmware out now, so it looks like the Mini Pro has been released there or is due to be soon, hopefully it wont take too long to track down the CDF number for this model.

Root/Debrand info:
The usual tricks work as for the u20i from my experience so check the debrand and root threads etc. The 2.1 update appears to carry a payload for for the 3G radio hardware, as there are multiple reports of u20i software disabling 3G on u20a's, crossflashing is therefore not advised.
Any additional/updated information welcome especially if you have a u20a with a CDF not listed above or can correct or expand existing CDF's
(I decided to remove the CDF's for proto firmware for the time being, as they were carrier branded, I couldn't confirm their authenticity and the brick risk on a regular u20a was high even if they were correct).
Brazil (CDF1238-8213) seems to be the most frequently updated firmware of the generics, running about 4-6 weeks behind UK for the translation additions into Brazilian Portuguese. There is some inherent safety with this as you're unlikely to get bombed with an unrootable update without warning from the UK people getting it a few weeks before.
SE BR seems to be the division with its act together the most and all u20a American versions should support the same language set. (English, Canadian French, Brazil Portuguese, Latin Spanish).
Brazil Generic however uses a qwerty Portuguese/Spanish latin keyboard, to switch to a qwerty English layout, the following needs to be done. So root the phone using your method of choice and make sure usb debugging is turned on. (USB debugging is your safety line if you screw up, it should always be turned on immediately after you flash a new firmware and left on.)
Here you will edit one file and replace another file, I recommend you make copies of the originals before you mess with them.
Firstly edit /system/usr/keyboard-config/keyprint.xml.
Where it says "QWERTY Portuguese" change to "QWERTY"
and the line <script name="latin" keyboard="qwerty-br"> you'll replace the "qwerty=br" to qwerty-en so it reads <script name="latin" keyboard="qwerty-en"> (This changes the keymap for "Default Input" if that is checked in the locale settings and you're in English you'll have qwerty English layout)
For 1.6 Copy /system/usr/keychars/mimmi/keyprints/qwerty-en.kcm.bin to /system/usr/keychars/qwerty.kcm.bin
You need to replace the qwerty.kcm file, you can copy over it or you can rename the original then copy in qwerty-en.kcm.bin and rename it to qwerty.kcm.bin)
(This makes the layout qwerty English, across the board even with "Default Input" off)
On 2.1, SE Brazil didn't include the English qwerty layout, so you'll need to get the .kcm file here.
In this case it's just a drop in replacement for mimmi_keypad.kcm.bin found in /system/usr/keychars/
I personally just did everything above in root explorer because I'm lazy and careful, you may wish to use adb for file operations and do the editing of keyprint.xml on your pc.
After you're done, switch to another language in the phones locale settings and switch back to English, you should then have a English qwerty keyboard.
WARNING: If you need the qwerty english layout on Brazil firmware, keep the following in mind. Every time you update the phone, you will need to root and change the keymap. In the event of an unrootable update you will be stuck with the Portuguese/Spanish layout, so apply updates with some degree of caution.
If you're not comfortable with this, the best firmware option for the qwerty English layout is the CDF1239-2460 GEL firmware, which sadly thus far hasn't seen a single update. The other option is to crossflash to UK Generic for the u20i, I'm unsure if changing to firmware for the u20i model could potentially impact operation of the gsm radio hardware at some stage, at the moment there appears to be no difference in operation of the unit on either firmware.
If you do get stuck on an unworkable firmware, Davinci Team or Omnius can get you back, if you're careful though it shouldn't come to this.
Brazil Generic 1.6 files (not decrypted) from the \blob_fs directory on SEUS/PC Companion for those who wish to update via that method.

now i have a U20i but my 3g network need a U20a so i will tray to flash it changing the prop.deb, if my 3g work after that change this mean both hardware are the same..
are some one already make this change and have 3g working??
the diferrence is software or hardware??
Pretty sure the radio hardware is different as there are two distinct models.
i make the change the phone work very good but no 3g, so its a hardware issue..
for all: its very safe to pass between u20i to u20a and come back already done by me...
but this no change the 3g bands
Usually with SE phones the A is just the America version (like for Rogers, at&t etc)
So I do find it a bit odd that when you change it to the U20i version that you lose 3G.
No loss of 3G atm, my concern more was as the two phones have diff radio hardware, software for one may at one stage cause probs if used on the other. It may be a baseless worry and SE may just work on one branch of software for the both phones, or perhaps anything that governs 3G data is set in stone when it leaves the factory.
Not that I like bumping threads, but major updates to the first post made it seem worthwhile.
I have the U20i and I've updated the build.prop file on my phone to the generic UK one and it still says my phone is up to date, when it is not

A small correction. The only operator in Brazil which supports this frequency range is VIVO (Movistar, Telefonica). All other operators are using European band allocation. So in fact there are U20a and U20i on the Brazilian market.

Yep check the debrand thread here. The guide is using build.prop edited for generic UK, for generic Brazil u20a you can substitute that with the one from the first post in this thread.
Just to let you guys know U20a Brazil 2.1 update finally came through today. Other updates for the region shouldn't be too far behind with luck.

[Q] R2BA026 issues for X10a

Fisrt of all, i installed a non branded version of the FW R2BA026 and i get it from the decrypted roms in this forum, all h e other FW that i installed have the option for automatic APN configuration, exept for the R2BA026 for X10a, is there a possibility to get this FW from another, older, or from some FW of US???
Thanks...
You could just enter the APN info manually no?
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk
i've done that, but when it does automatically, had a lot more data in the configuration.... beside if is a non branded firmware, shouldn't it come with auto config, for operators? and i'm in Chile (Latino America) but i cant get any fw to just update through SEUS and get the 026 for x10a... that's why i'm asking...
As far as I know, unbranded phones do not come with all the preconfigured APIs (there would be a crapload of them). The branded ones do.
SMS, MMS and 3G work after manual input of the API settings? If yes then why worry?

I really don't understand your concern? If you manually set up your APN and it works fine then why do you care? Furthermore I wouldn't expect generic UK software to have automatic APN configurations for every operator in Chile. Most people face this same "issue" from other countries too, like here in Canada, it's easily resolved and I think this thread is unnecessary and misleading, esp in the Android Dev. :S
well, all the non branded firmware beside 026 have the auto config option enabled... and i'm not installing the uk generic, it suppose to be one 026 generic for x10i , and another for x10a, when you install any of the other generic(non branded) firmware u can use the auto settings for APN, but in the x10a R2BA026 its disabled this option, doesn't make you think maybe it's a branded version?, that's why i care.....
And beside, the auto config APN get all the config from the carrier, it doesn't come in the firmware. (correct me if i'm wrong)

[Q] global generic?

hey guys
do i have global generic from what it says (BIGGEST NOOB QUESTION EVER!) i brought the phone outright from Telechoice (Australia) it only has optus apps on there but i can use any sim
information for service menu
Model Info - X10i
Phone Software Version - 1227-4612_2.1.A.0.435
File System Version - WORLD-1-4-8_2.1.A.0.435
S1 BOOT Version - 1226-2253 R8A031
from about phone
Firmware Version - 2.1-update1
Baseband Version - 2.1.54
It's probably Telechoice branded. Usually it will say if its branded on boot up and there will a splash screen with the branded company's logo. What does the boot splash display?

i think if you were to do that and you need the Rogers settings you can just simply go to settings -> Sony Ericsson -> Settings Download followed by an agreement prompt which then downloads all the internet and mms setting direct from Rogers but im not sure but it seemed to work on my one when i needed settings from virgin au

Sorry this is a separate thread, have new account and can't post in dev threads.
hi my friends, i am from Australia and i am interested in buying the sk17a as Vodafone launched new 850 network for faster internet and i was wondering if its possible to root it and unlock the bootloader as the sk17i, and what advantages or disadvantages it haves from sk17i.
thanks

The firmware file linked to is for an SK17i. (Build 4.0.A.2.368.) Will flashing that file onto an SK17a affect the basebands? Will the US basebands work with that firmware?

It is a stock firmware. Besides loosing DRM after rooting there should be no difference regarding connections. This is no custom firmware. But I can't promise
edit: ups.. SK17a .. sorry overread that.. must inform what that might be first.. never came across that sk17a

Welcome in the world of Xperia
Your questions should be answered here
hth poedel
this model had electronic noise problem.....
And there are differences about the gsm bands. As far as I unterdstood the a version is for some American Bands like from bell that ride on a different frequency. SK17a seems to bo Quadband, without a got only 3 and the i version looks like the european. I could be wrong, but besides the gsm bands I could not find any differences in the models.
I personally would test that but this is no advice.
If you keep volume up pressed while plugging the usb cable into your usb port of the PC the LED should light up blue. That's fastboot. From here you can always flash using fastbood command. No risk - no fun *selfslap*

Just got a new SK17a I want to root. A big thank you to DoomLord and everyone else over in this thread.

Except I just found out that my Carrier (Telstra in Australia) is decomissioning UMTS HSPA 2100 (Band I) and moving to UMTS 850 (Band V).
Is it possible to "flash" the modem in order to enable this band on this device, or is the hardware different.
I have searched the forum and I believe I need to replace the dsp1.sin file with the one from the ST18a but I am not sure how to do this, or if it will even work?
Any help would be greatly apreciated... thanks.
SK17a ?? OMG, how is it different from SK17i ? Is this the fixed version without electrostatic sound that users complained ?

Anyone root an sk17a?? Will the sk17i files work without messing up the bands?
So when you say messing up the bands, if you flash st18a firmware on an st18i phone or visa versa does it actually enable the st18a region set of bands or does it just stop the modem from working at all?
That's what i wanna know. most files on here seem to say sk17i instead of "a" so im not sure if i should try them.

Sorry for digging up such an old thread, but did you ever find an answer to this? I have an ST18a, and with newer basebands now available for the ST18i (and only the ST18i), I'm wondering if I can flash them without losing the 850 and 1900 bands (or for the benefit of gaining the 900 band when I'm in Europe).
