[Q] USB borked, somehow. - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed bionix 1.3 onto my bell vibrant, and everything seemed okay except for two (Big) things... One of which I've seen other people having troubles with, the other seems completely unique to me.
A) I have no 3g connection at all to any data whatsoever
B, and this is the one I'm completely pissed off about) I have no USB connection available to me. Whenever I plug in my phone to any usb, be it my laptop or even the wall charger... It shuts down and goes into a sort of sleep mode where it flashes between an empty gray battery and the "busy, loading" ring... Over and over. I can't turn it back on until I unplug it. So I can't flash the stock back onto it with odin because it doesn't connect to odin for more than 4 seconds before going into sleepytime mode. This happens when it's on, when it's in recovery mode, or download mode. ANY time I plug anything into the usb.
Any ideas?

I also forgot to mention that my internal SD card isn`t being recognized by clockwork, so I don`t quite have the option to flash bionix again because I get the /data/ can't be mounted error...

I and my friend who has a non Bionix (stock) JI6 build are having this same issue. Really irrititating and no flashing ROMS have fixed this. I was able to ODIN back to JFD stock, but no fix. Basically I have to plug it in to be able to power it on, and it always reports USB as being connected even if it's just a power cable. I used to be able to transfer data just fine, I have all the drivers, etc. Phone turned off in the middle of the night and then started happening. Can't think of any specific change other then apps that might have caused this, but then again my buddy is having similar issues with non Bionix ROMs. Still have not seen any resolution to this. Hoping it comes soon, or analysis of if it's software or hardware.

[Q] Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 crashed and won't start

I successfully flashed my X10 with 2.1 and had no issues. I believe last week I got the multitouch update from SE. No problems. Today however, I had a major problem. I was testing a program called Blacklist by calling my phone from another phone to see if it works. When I went to slide the slide over to send the call to voicemail, the phone buzzed for about two seconds and shut off. When I tried to turn the phone back on it buzzed like it should and that was it, nothing. I updated the phone with the PC Companion, the Update service, and it updated and reinstalled the software according to the program but still wouldn't turn on. I tried to reflash the phone using the X10 Flash tool from this site; it flashed successfully but still nothing. I even left the battery out of the phone while I was at work; still nothing happened. So with all this, any ideas???
Does anybody recognize this and have any suggestions?
I would contact the dev who created Blacklist.
I don't think it was Blacklist that caused it. Even when I reflashed the OS it still had the same problem. My friend mentioned about flashing the baseband. But I'm trying to see what this forum has to say.
If it was the OS, then SEUS or PC Companion "repair software" should work. It basically wipes your phone and does a fresh install, which would fix any errors you created.
Also, try this... Remove the battery and leave the back off the phone. Then plug the phone into the charger/wall with the battery out. Wait for a minute or longer, and then insert the battery while it is still plugged in. Wait a minute, and then try and turn the phone on. If it doesn't work, try altering the steps a bit like starting with the phone plugged in, or plugging it into usb port on your PC rather than the wall. I haven't had to do this myself, but I read somewhere that this works when the x10 dies.
I hope this helps. Let us know how it turns out.
I just tried this and still nothing. I am going to try to downgrade to 1.6 and see what happens.
I downgraded to 1.6 and still nothing.
Forgive me if these questions appear naive or insulting....
Sometimes (actually most times) it is something simple, so let's back up. Since it vibrates when pressing power on button, it would appear the phone's power circuit is functional. How much charge did you have left in the battery when this happened? What happens with the LED notification light when you plug it in to charge? Basically, are you sure the battery isn't dead or worse bad? A red/pink LED notification would be a sign the battery is charging/working.
**If it is not charging check to see if the USB cable or port damaged? I think my usb cable quit working after my first flash. I thought it was my phone until I read about usb cables suddenly not working after flashing... weird? Now I use an HTC cord.
use x10 flash unbricker it solved all my problems when my phone would work.
Hey i had this problem (but i dont have the MT update yet ) but it was my memory card stopping the X10i to not turn on :s try a new memory card XD
@agentJBM
I thought about the same thing last night, so I plugged the phone into the charger for the night. The battery feels warm like it's been charging. When I plug the charger in the green light comes on for a bit then turns off, which is normal. However, still the same issue.
@soldier33 Do you have a link???
@Si-The-Spike I thought about this before. I pulled the memory card and the sim card out and tried to see what would happen, nothing.
I at least know this much: the phone is able to be put into flash mode, and the phone is able to accept a charge. I just can't figure out why it can't boot.
I cant seem to find a working lnik anymore. So ill upload the one I have saved. Hoepfully it works.
Much appreciated
sorry it taking so long got very slow upload speed just 20kb. and the file size is 130mb
here you go zshare.net/download/87207469347a26f2/
Thanks. I'll try it out tonight.
Unfortunately it did not work. I'm completely lost on what happened.
Try completely uninstalling SEUS, PC Companion, and Flash Tool & firmware from your PC. Do a fresh install of SEUS and then try to update/repair software. I read it may take 4 or so attempts, especially if you are having battery trouble.
I've never done it but there is a way to open in safe mode as well by pressing menu button while turning phone on. Try searching that as well.

[Q] Vibrant won't boot - USB appears to be stuck on

I picked up a used Vibrant last week and it initially worked fine. However, it still had 2.1 installed so I decided to update to 2.2 with Kies Mini. After 4 hours of screwing around and with it and much searching of forums, I finally got it upgraded, but something seems to have happened to the phone in the process.
The phone acts like the USB is permanently on, even if no cable is attached. The USB plugged in notification stays on even when the cable is unplugged. After I charge the phone and unplug it, the battery indicator continues to show that it is charging. The main problem is that the phone gets stuck in some kind of loop when the phone is turned off and never truly turns off. Initially, what would happen was that the little loading circle indicator would appear then the battery charging icon would pop up for a moment. However, since there was no cable plugged in, it would disappear. After several seconds of a black screen, the loading circle would come back up. This loop would simply continue over and over. Pulling the battery and putting it back in did nothing; the loop would just start over again the moment the battery was inserted. The phone would not respond to the power button while this loop was going.
At this point, I was still able to get the phone to boot by plugging in the USB cable, waiting until it started to charge (with the green battery icon) and then hitting the power button. This went on for several days. Today, I decided to take the battery out for several hours to see if anything would reset. However, things only got worse. The loading icon still pops up but now the charging icon doesn't come up, even if the USB is plugged in. I just get a loop where the loading circle pops up, disappears, comes back, and so on. I am now also not able to power on the phone with the power button.
I am still able to get into download mode (but not recovery mode) so I flashed everything back to stock using Odin and the instructions on this forum. This does get the phone booted back up, but as soon as I turn it off again everything starts all over.
So now I have a phone that, if it is ever turned off or loses power, has to be reset, wiping everything in the process. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Is it some kind of bootloader issue?
Odin, put 2.1 stock rom back.
Like the post before me mentioned, Odin back to stock 2.1
And personally, I'd much rather install stock froyo with ODIN rather than KIES.
Or just use a Custom ROM altogether.
As I mentioned in the original post, I've already restored the phone with Odin several times and it has absolutely no effect. It allows the phone to boot once but as soon as it is turned off again the loop starts over.

I have heard of KIES updates screwing phones before! I would contact T-mobile and tell them the situation....letting them know its used and had stock T-mo 2.1 and after using KIES to upgrade to 2.2 it screwed your phone.
Eventhough its used and You didnt buy it from them, they would probably fix it for you for free since their update program caused the issue...If it was a stock phone then they will probably fix it.
edit: in your story to them, leave out the part about you using ODIN...i am sure they will call that a void of the warranty.

"Bricked" Vibrant -- Stuck in "Download" Mode but Not Being Recognized by ODIN

"Bricked" Vibrant -- Stuck in "Download" Mode but Not Being Recognized by ODIN
Stock Vibrant, stuck in "download" mode. Pressing power on with the battery inserting goes to a black screen with green graphics saying "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!" The phone is not recognized by a PC with a known good cable able to connect without problem to another Vibrant.
Any suggestions?
u might have to reinstall the drivers.

Tried that, and plus the other vibrant connects to ODIN in download mode fine, granted that the other Vibrant (the one that connects) is on a GB bootloader. Not sure what else to try.

you problely done this already, but if its on a froyo bootloader, having the USB cable plugged in and connected to a computer makes it go into download mode when turned on. I was doing that be4 and I kept on going into download mode, when I was trying to get into recovery mode. just sharing my stupitidy .
Yeah, it will go into Download mode immediately when the power key is pressed, regardless of whether its connected to a USB cable or not. Effing thing won't charge the battery anymore either, as far as I can till. Feel like throwing the whole thing against the wall.
Try setting it up for reflashing with Odin running, connected to PC, but with battery out, then insert battery. Odin may recognize phone, you can then flash JFD and go from there. Or you might want to try flashing a bootloader first, see if that fixes it without wiping your phone.
Did you get water damage on it?
The most likely culprit is a bad USB port. Try these in order.
1) Try using a clean tooth brush and clean the port. Also try several cables, some of the male end are slightly thicker and will contact the female end better.
2) If that doesn't work, you'll need to open up the phone and clean the lines coming out of the back of the port - there are 7 silver colored wires distinctively coming out the back.. Look for any pieces of dirt stuck between the wires that's causing a short circuit.
3) If it looks pristine back there, then you'll need a multimeter to test the wires on the back from #2, test for power coming in (with the usb plugged in). If there is power, then the problem is deeper in - which mean you'll need to replace the motherboard (aka you're ****ed). If there is no power coming in, then the port itself is bad and need to be replaced (Don't try this yourself, go to a professional for repair)
I had a similar issue and kies fixed it for me. I uninstalled the vibrant drivers and installed kies(just for the drivers that it has) and it worked perfect for me after.

This worked for me too. Just be very careful _not_ to actually use kies to install anything on your phone. As kxlling said, install it just for the drivers.

Kies didn't work for me. But my phone is probably a little more damaged than yours. Mine was included in a load of laundry. I'm surprised after fully drying it that it was at least able to screen on, albeit stuck in "download" mode. Looking at the insides, I see a lot of residue on the board from the wash. I'm hopeful that some spring cleaning might be able to save it.
This Kies "fix" seems the most promising after almost giving up on this.
Thanks for the replies. Ended up that its still under warranty (for 2 more weeks!) so I sent it back to Samsung for repair. Hopefully, will get it back in one piece

Help with Phone Shutdown Issues?

Hey everyone, I could use some help with a few Thunderbolt issues I have.
Here's a few points of description about the issues:
Whenever I use data on the phone (either 3G or 4G), the phone browses fine for about 3-5 minutes, then suddenly powers off. When I power it back on, the phone says it has 0% battery left, and will very quickly turn itself back off. When I plug it in to charge, the phone will turn on without issue and say it has whatever % battery it had before it turned off suddenly the first time.
If I simply use the phone for calls or non-internet things, the phone works fine. Once it's turned off once, though, it'll think it has 0% battery and not even offline things will work.
The phone seems to work OK for short-burst internet browsing, like checking email, but anything continuous (web browsing, streaming music) will shut it down within a few minutes
While plugged in, I can browse the internet, stream music, etc. just fine without the phone ever having any issues.
As a less serious and potentially unrelated problem,
The phone is not recognized by any computer. I have tried changing USB cables, computers, laptops, installing drivers, etc., but the phone only lists itself as "Charging" and never says anything about USB connections / USB debugging.
The issues first started when I tried out LiquidSmooth ICS about a month ago, with the recommended newer radio. I tried running the MR2 and MR2.5 radios on LiquidSmooth, and that didn't seem to change anything, so I went back to my old Gingerbread AOSP ROM, but the problems persisted.
Now I'm running stock with the stock radio (S-ON unrooted), and once again the problems are the same. The phone has been trying to download the ICS OTA update, but it always says "DOWNLOAD FAILED."
Anyways I'm not sure if the hardware on the phone has just broken, or if it's possible to fix through software. Anyone have any ideas? It would be much appreciated.
Sounds like you have a bad battery. Only thing I can say is you must not have properly unrooted your device or you have one of the few phones that will not do an ota update. I had this happen to my original droid when froyo came out. They try pushing the update but just wouldn't accept it. Also maybe your battery issue is causing your update issue. So just get a new battery and go from there.

[Q] Please help. USB fried?

Ive tried searching everywhere on here but cant find anything concrete. Hopefully you can help me out
Verizon - Samsung sch-i500 fascinate.
It has been running Dirty Unicorn. Its the only one that's lasted for more than a month. All of a sudden the other day it started having problems.
The phone with battery in and just power button keeps putting into Download Mode. The only way to remedy it it to hook it up to computer with USB. While phone in hooked up it charges and everything is fine. The moment i pull the USB cord off it gets super sluggish like 50 mhz cpu or something. Then after about 3 minutes it crashes to black screen and i have to reboot it with the battery and usb hooked up. USB & Battery in pressing p. button it will boot up perfect and run again until i pull the usb. Also when rebooting with the p.button only and USB/Batt combo the first thing that shows up is a charging battery for 5 seconds then it reboots automatically into Recovery. Then I select reboot system and thats when everything works. Ive tried recovering OS and even tried different recovery flashes with Rom Manager.
USB debugging is on although the icon isn't there when cable up. Phone will charge.
I tried doing ODIN to reformat but ODIN wil never connect to it. I'm running the Samsung Driver that worked before. (Tried uninstalling and reinstall)
This leads me to believe its a USB issue somehow. That's why I'm here.
I just want this thing to work without being hooked up to USB.
