I was wondering about some of the devs on here on what the status of compiling the custom kernel? I know there was issues with defconfig being left out by Samsung but someone overcame the issue but then it went all quiet. I was curious if everyone was waiting when 2.2 launches on Black Friday to finish a custom kernel or if something else is going on.

Well if you're concerned with it and want to keep up on the latest and greatest... just go hang out in freenode #samsung-fascinate instead of posting a thread requesting people to update you with the status of a custom kernel.
http://github.com/jt1134/linux-2.6-fascinate/commits/OC/
it compiles
Are we still looking at the aries rev02 as the defconfig?

Calm down guy. What's wrong with along a question. No one asked you for your advise.
Not everyone likes hanging out in irc. What's the difference between asking that question here rather than irc?

I believe so.
I have been wondering the same thing. I understand that 2.2 is the latest and greatest, but what's stopping people from building 2.1 ROMS and showing off their awesome work while we wait?
Also I don't see why it's a big deal to ask about the kernel here, last time I checked this was the development section and "development" on the kernel went hush hush. Also IMO IRC is too busy and cluttered for my liking.
to answer the point of this post yes there are custom kernels
BTW guys im not going to post any links bc i havent ask. but if you go to #samsung-fascinate irc channel there are a couple of OC'd custom kernels floating around, so give or take another day or 2 and they will be all over the place. thanks to jt and dirrk
Do the custom kernels have any other optimizations? The phone is fast enough at 1 ghz.
not yet i dont beleive, they got it to compile which was apparently a feat in itself so just a little bit longer and we should be ready for things to switch into high gear. if you go into the irc room you can test out some of the kernel and im sure that they wouldnt care a bit

In all seriousness, are the IRC sessions logged anywhere?
I've been lucky enough to lurk a few times when things were really rolling, but other times I'm doing things like working, and I'd love to be able to catch up on what has happened.

This is why you see many of us idle (stay in chat when we're not physically around). We log, and then catch up when we return.

The happiness I feel from now being able to do this overwhelms my embarrassment, so THANK YOU!

lol.. No problem.. If you're using mIRC (and actually most irc clients) you can choose the location of your log files.. Sometimes I'll redirect them to my dropbox folder, so the logs get sent to me at work, and I'll check them our during lunch or something, just catch up.

^^^QFT. Judging by the minimal voltage bump to hit 1.2Ghz I have to assume the 45nm cpu should be able to easily hit 1.4Ghz with another minor bump up. Time will tell on 1.5 and 1.6
Get to 1.5 with froyo, and this will be the fastest phone out there. CM6 would be sweet
Has there been any progress? Why did they stop updating it? We want MiUi (Stable) lol
Anyone know anything about this?
They have been working hard, you should drop in the irc channel linked in jumaneface siggy....i know i spelled his name wrong...they are working on lots of stuff....
I am sure they provide us updates on xda whenever there is something significant..

I wonder how many threads I have to post this in..?
"There will be updates to come.. Just remember, we all have lives & like to live them, we don't/cant spent 24/7 on roms like some of you think we do."
Also, JF is sick, he does have the updates on his computer so we are waiting for that.
leave brittany alone!!! Err... I mean the devs. They work when they can and if they feel like it. Comments like these only makes them nit want to release these great roms to the masses.

Glitch ... I'm not a big fan of the "stock" kernel. I have been trying to get the Glitch kernel flashed with Espresso Runnymede SII but I cannot get to work. Is there anything special that I need to do in order to get the Glitch kernel flashed? I have flashed CM7.1 then flashed Espresso SII and then tried flashing Glitch but each time I only get to the Android splash screen and it never goes past that. Please help.
BTW ... I love your Rom. It is one of the better ones that I have flashed to my phone and I have tried them all. Just fix a lot of the fc's.

Dude don't get me wrong I love JT's work also and appreciate everything that he has done for the Fascinate. I just prefer a different kernel than his, no offense to anyone else.
I have been reading these forums for several months now and everyone always takes things so personal, most people on here love what they do and want to put out a great product for their phone and share in their profit.
I wish everyone would just get along and help each other out. Thanks to all the developers for their hard work and I appreciate everything that they have done.

I just got this phone awhile ago and honestly am extremely smart, just graduated 1 nd 1/2 years early out of highschool so i dont think it would be too hard at all for me to catch on! I would LOvE to help! Ill eventually try donating as much as possible (could be anywhere from 10-800$) just depends on other things

I will be able to help with testing and such, I will be out of the States at the start of January and will be able to help with GSM testing then or CDMA for the next few days.

I am a software dev. I use to dabble in linux kernel stuff. I also use to work with precentral on webos for original pre -. I am in a 4G area. I have been working on some old g tablet stuff. I always wanted to get into android dev but it just keeps getting away from me. Only problem is I only have one photon and its my only phone. Good news is I have no problem doing any testing as long as its possible to revert back. I would be up for any project. I want to see this phone used to it's full potential.

So, I'm curious, what benefits do we get from cm9 as opposed to cm7? Ics is nice, but will there be new features? Or is it just a cleaned up GUI. I know that ics should be able to multi-thread when gingerbread can't, so is that going to happen with our phones? (my guess is not until kexec starts working)

Well as of right now, only dragonzkiller knows how much ICS it will bring us. If its a full CM9 port, Im sure we will have all of the ICS features unless some things dont work. But this is a first Alpha so I'm sure not everything will work. It's just a wait and see right now.

Im sure there will be quite a few things not working at first. He's probably only releasing it because he has the main stuff working like data, wifi, cellular network, hopefully sms. I've been watching some videos on cm9 and saw that some other ports didnt have the camera working.
