I was wondering about some of the devs on here on what the status of compiling the custom kernel? I know there was issues with defconfig being left out by Samsung but someone overcame the issue but then it went all quiet. I was curious if everyone was waiting when 2.2 launches on Black Friday to finish a custom kernel or if something else is going on.

Well if you're concerned with it and want to keep up on the latest and greatest... just go hang out in freenode #samsung-fascinate instead of posting a thread requesting people to update you with the status of a custom kernel.
http://github.com/jt1134/linux-2.6-fascinate/commits/OC/
it compiles
Are we still looking at the aries rev02 as the defconfig?

Calm down guy. What's wrong with along a question. No one asked you for your advise.
Not everyone likes hanging out in irc. What's the difference between asking that question here rather than irc?

I believe so.
I have been wondering the same thing. I understand that 2.2 is the latest and greatest, but what's stopping people from building 2.1 ROMS and showing off their awesome work while we wait?
Also I don't see why it's a big deal to ask about the kernel here, last time I checked this was the development section and "development" on the kernel went hush hush. Also IMO IRC is too busy and cluttered for my liking.
to answer the point of this post yes there are custom kernels
BTW guys im not going to post any links bc i havent ask. but if you go to #samsung-fascinate irc channel there are a couple of OC'd custom kernels floating around, so give or take another day or 2 and they will be all over the place. thanks to jt and dirrk
Do the custom kernels have any other optimizations? The phone is fast enough at 1 ghz.
not yet i dont beleive, they got it to compile which was apparently a feat in itself so just a little bit longer and we should be ready for things to switch into high gear. if you go into the irc room you can test out some of the kernel and im sure that they wouldnt care a bit

In all seriousness, are the IRC sessions logged anywhere?
I've been lucky enough to lurk a few times when things were really rolling, but other times I'm doing things like working, and I'd love to be able to catch up on what has happened.

lol.. No problem.. If you're using mIRC (and actually most irc clients) you can choose the location of your log files.. Sometimes I'll redirect them to my dropbox folder, so the logs get sent to me at work, and I'll check them our during lunch or something, just catch up.

^^^QFT. Judging by the minimal voltage bump to hit 1.2Ghz I have to assume the 45nm cpu should be able to easily hit 1.4Ghz with another minor bump up. Time will tell on 1.5 and 1.6
Get to 1.5 with froyo, and this will be the fastest phone out there. CM6 would be sweet

Now if this new file is still wrong, after they've announced it, then we can give them crap, but lets wait and see.

Hey guys, I was just posting up to ask whether or not anyone had looked into porting project voodoo over to the fascinate. I know supercurio posted up this porting information on his site http://project-voodoo.org/porting a few days ago but hadn't seen anything in here on it.
I am by no means a developer but more of a news/rumor man or else i would totally be working on this for everyone so i hope someone out there is capable and willing to give this a go as it seems to be a much more capable and stable solution to the lag fix experienced on other galaxy s variants and though we all may not necessarily need it... it'd be a cool option to try
It is being worked on. We need a full kernel built from source to get to this point, or try to splice voodoo into our recovery kernel that wad tweaked to work. Its gonna take some time but know it is being worked on. Kernel built from source is the first on the development list

thats literally all i was hoping to hear, i figured we were still a lil whiles away from getting a voodoo kernel but glad to hear it is on the list
thanks
Now that there is a kernel that actually compiles and works is this more of a reality? If it's already being worked on what's the status?

The porting guide is not complete, but big strides have been made recently, though it may not come outside of inner circles for a real release until voodoo beta 5. #project-voodoo on freenode is a place to check out, though you may get a bad response if all you do is log on every day and ask "is it out yet?"

As current roms stand there are no AOSP roms out at the moment . But also bare in mind root status is still very new , if anything still in its infancy . Give it time and before you know it AOSP will be ready for flashing . I know cyanogenmod was ported to the Sensation already , so I dont think EVO3D will be to far off from that . Some Devs have had roms on standby waiting for root to hit but never had a device to test stability on (even though there were s-off devices running around in the wild) . Like I said give it more time , heck the development thread has already started up with kernal threads and rom threads . The fun is just now begining so kick back and enjoy the ride
I'm not trying to be rude but there's a fee threads on this already.
But yeah first I heard it would be ported and cyanogen wouldn't officially support it then I heard that toastch is working on it. So I can't wait either.

Current Dev Plan:
RC1.3 will have the ability to go "Non-Sense" using my script to remove Sense apps in place of AOSP apps. viperROM Control Script to manage this as well as many other features!
RC2 is going to be a completely reworked base. I won't go into much detail yet, but it's going to be THE FASTEST E3D Sense ROM.
No ETA on any of these but I just thought I would share with you guys my plans at the moment. I will also get some theming work started in one of these upcoming builds.

Okay, everyone who has Linux and has the experience with it let's get working on this.
Motorola has apparently released the sourcecode for the DX2. It's called the Motorola OSMC on sourceforge.
Here is the link: Motorola OSMC for the Droid X2
Get your environments set up and start poking around. If you need help setting up your development environment, ask. I don't have access to my personal laptop from work, so I can't help you during the day, but over this coming weekend (31MAR2012-01APR2012) I will edit this post with an update on setting up your development environment. It will be a generic setup as I run Fedora 16 and your Linux flavor will probably be different. You should be familiar with git, yum/apt-get, eclipse (possibly), bash & shell scripting, and compiling from source.
This is a WORK IN PROGRESS and will take time!
Please keep this thread clean for development use. Once we have something concrete, I will start a new thread for testing. Thank you all for your cooperation and assistance!
Ciao!
Setting up your Android repo for use and build environment. (LINUX ONLY!)
1. Go to the Motorola OSMC and click the Downloads link.
2. Click the Droidx2_VZW link.
3. Click the DTN_150.30 link.
4. Read the README.txt file and go to http://source.android.com/source/download.html to set up your repo (don't forget to download the files as well as outlined here: http://source.android.com/source/downloading.html.
5. Follow the directions exactly. For various Linux distributions, your commands will be different than what is listed in the HowTo on SourceForge.
Please note that this is in no way designed to be a tutorial. This is for developers only. Please do not ask questions if you don't know what you are doing. (Sorry to be a PITA, but I don't have time to answer questions that you should already know the answers to.) Also, please note that I am using Fedora 16 as my Linux distro, the SourceForge HowTo uses Ubuntu and Mac OSX.
(I will update this as I find information that is relevant to this process and kexec.)
Ciao! For now.
Reserverd number II for future use!

There will not really be any testing for "users" to actually do... This will require pretty in-depth knowledge of Linux/Android.
This is an attempt at getting the DX2 to boot a different kernel. Once we can get that kernel booting and stable, then it will be up to others, to build the ROMs. A custom kernel will allow the DX2 to be overclocked, run ICS (with the correct kernel, version 3.0+), and other fantastic things. So, don't expect anything spectacular out of this, even if it does work.
I don't mean to sound negative, however, I also don't want to get anyone's hopes up that I can work wonders. It will be up to others to take this farther, IF we can get it working.
As I stated in the OP, let me get a viable platform working and we will see where it goes from there.
Ciao!

I'm definitely a noob when it comes to it, but the whole irc thing tends to be a giant pain for me, especially in comparison to xda. So j was just wondering why a lot of the devs only talk about their progress on the channels and not in dedicated threads.
I'm honestly not trying to complain at all, I'm just curious if more development progress threads can be made (because I love following them) or if irc has some massive advantages (which I'm sure is the reason). Once again no offence to anyone or anything, just hoping to expand my knowledge slowly but steadily.

With IRC just being a chatroom I'd imagine it makes it easier to just communicate immediately without having to wait too long for a response. And they like to test things they don't need the public to know about on here, because these things may cause bad bricks
Yeah that's what I was figuring. I guess I was just hoping for a "by the way we got this working today, but we're still working this out" sort of thread.

Yeah, but the problem is XDA doesn't allow placeholders, and the devs on IRC are still working on booting CM, so it;d be against the rules to post it. Plus then you have people screaming for ETA's and telling devs to just release stuff which may cause terrible results, and then they complain. This is just from my experience with a few Captivate rom threads. You can always hop on IRC though.
Dumb question but I've never used irc before, how would I access the optimus g convos? Not interested in flashing anything but same as above, I really like following the development progress/process
