[Q] Why IRC? - AT&T LG Optimus G

I'm definitely a noob when it comes to it, but the whole irc thing tends to be a giant pain for me, especially in comparison to xda. So j was just wondering why a lot of the devs only talk about their progress on the channels and not in dedicated threads.
I'm honestly not trying to complain at all, I'm just curious if more development progress threads can be made (because I love following them) or if irc has some massive advantages (which I'm sure is the reason). Once again no offence to anyone or anything, just hoping to expand my knowledge slowly but steadily.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2

With IRC just being a chatroom I'd imagine it makes it easier to just communicate immediately without having to wait too long for a response. And they like to test things they don't need the public to know about on here, because these things may cause bad bricks

Yeah that's what I was figuring. I guess I was just hoping for a "by the way we got this working today, but we're still working this out" sort of thread.

Yeah, but the problem is XDA doesn't allow placeholders, and the devs on IRC are still working on booting CM, so it;d be against the rules to post it. Plus then you have people screaming for ETA's and telling devs to just release stuff which may cause terrible results, and then they complain. This is just from my experience with a few Captivate rom threads. You can always hop on IRC though.

Dumb question but I've never used irc before, how would I access the optimus g convos? Not interested in flashing anything but same as above, I really like following the development progress/process

Yes this is the reason, devs are starting to resent each other because noobs are doing what they always have. Genius.
Devs love to dev. If they don't do it here, you can find them by doing a little searching. The problem is like any work place, organization, etc.....basically anywhere people are involved with other people everything gets ****ing political.

troll attempt is pathetic...
its great the devs want to leave because they are open to make their own rules. they are mad that admins arent doing their job and getting pissed off and packing their bags. now, they are making their own sites and are going to tear noobs a new one every time something is asked. so therefore, the users are going to leave.
nothing will last without users, these developers do great work but when users leave so do donations and people willing to try their roms out.
Maybe the famous enough that they don't need xda anymore lol, who knows man you will get some either way, developers come and go, life changes all the time, you notice more if your a flashaholic like I used to be I got tired of flashing more then on ROM at day so I enjoy life more and actually use my phone more often pics look great on this phone BTW

You act like the developers need users, when it fact, it's the other way around lol. Developers first and foremost develop for themselves and then later share what they made with the world. No Rom developer is getting rich off this, it's a hobby.
There's a reason you dont see developers asking where the users are, but you see plenty of threads from users asking that question.
Users will go where the developers are or they wont get their work.
Devs are probably sick of all the useless comments people post that are useless. The flaming and so on...

Questions about Rules

My question is of a serious nature.Even though Im not exactly new here I am new to the Rezound section.I noticed earlier that a thread I was reading was shut down.It was shutdown mid-read and i have a question about that.
It seems that one person whined about dmeadows asking for donations not for himself but for another awesome developer who has the ability to bring something everybody wants but nobody else has the ability to deliver including the gentleman who got the thread shut down.
Maybe a Mod can help me understand the rules. As long as xda has existed these sorts of "Help a Dev help us" threads have existed and were perfectly ok.See Here:
http://www.google.com/cse?q=bounty+...59-1#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=bounty thread&gsc.page=1
But one thread gets closed down because someone who is a well known donation hound complains because they arent getting the attention and/or donations. If you are going to apply your gestapo tactic rules to one apply them to all,not just when your buddy complains to you about it in a pm.Im genuinely confused about this.I read and reread the rules and dont understand where it says this is acceptable behavior.
that whole situation reminds me and hopefully reminds the one who's allowed themselves to be intimidated to "practice before you preach"
I'm not really sure whats going on around here recently... people are acting all sorts of edgy in Rezound land. All I can say is - WOW. I'm starting to think humanity is devolving quickly.
**edit**
or is the correct word de-evolving??
As I said in another thread:
The donations for Protekk were merely made to purchase him a Rezound, with this Rezound he could work on the RIL. NOT AOSP/AOKP Roms. What he does after is his choice.

I completely agree. all were willing to contribute to a cause. can't get progress going without the device.also just because there's unfinished projects doesn't mean someone deserves to be put on the spot like that.

Agree wholeheartedly.
the overall point is to be a team and help each other not go after someone which is clearly a rule they broke themselves. breaking one rule to publicly point out another rule which is still questionable broken or not is not why we're here. this behavior needs to stop and we need to be a team if we are going to make goals happen

You are absolutely right. What I fail to understand is that prior to this incident there was a gazillion and one Bounty threads dating back to the beginnings of Android threads here on XDA and there wasn't any issue with it till someone got jealous.I think it just violates to the core everything Android is supposed to be about when someone gets their panties in a wad over pure jealousy.

It does. It was a move that is similar to Apple trying to stomp out competition by patent trolling. And believe me, that particular developer has just lost a lot of respect from the community. I for one have no problems saying publicly that I don't condone that behavior, nor will I support developers who engage in that kind of activity.

ok well this could have been it. but there are other ways to go around this. one is if you just click the report button and tell the mod that he received the phone and that it should be closed.
what they did was go in and flame the $h|T out of Dmeadows, when all they had to do was suggest to him that he needs to contact the mods to close it.
this is why i wont post stuff on xda anymore. it seems like there are more people out to flame then just help. most of the people just jumped on the ban wagon when a dev was involved. all the dev had to do was pm meadows and that would have been it. but he just wanted to post so everyone can see how much of a BA he was. that is not needed at all.
Wow. I just saw the thread with the people involved. Shocked at who it was and what they said.
A simple PM wouldve helped. When you come out your face like that you lose really quick.
Ijs, d helped us get joelz here and joelz work has helped the complainer and others out and im sure prot would done the same . Its messed up really, and i can see what people mean with how the community is going down, especially when the devs are part of it too, smh. Lol crazy.

I understand what you're saying there and I partially agree but the part I am most agitated about and have a hard time understanding is the fact that one person is being told they are breaking the rules by asking for something that doesn't yet exist, but that same thing he is getting ripped on for has occurred over and over since Androids beginnings on XDA but it was never made an issue of before and allowed to happen by mods and administration alike. But when one person who out of pure jealousy makes an issue out of it,the rule is then enforced.

SO glad that people see that a simple PM would have been a better choice. You guys give me hope that XDA can be fixed.
Edit:
Flaming doesnt get us anywhere. Plus D was trying to do a good thing for the community. HE got the ball rolling on getting the correct people involved and bringing more options and development to our phones.
I dont want to add anymore and i know im breaking a rule by attacking one individual. This should note be considered a flame, but as an inspiration to RELAX. We are all trying to achieve one goal.

I dont' think XDA is the real problem... its just a few bad attitudes in here. XDA has the largest user base, meaning there's a larger pool of potential trouble-makers. It does surely get annoying from time to time, but if everybody on XDA simply moved to another forum, the same drama would likely just follow the users...
I'm not really sure there is a solution, except for ignoring the trouble makers..

[Q] Got S-Off. Nothings stoping us now?

So we have S-Off now. Therefore, there are no excuses not to be supported in Cyanogen minus the source code and Offical OTA of the ICS update. Am I correct? Miui, Cyanogen, and AOSP/AOKP . I hope the ball starts rolling because I'm estatic!!! Post in and tell me the truth and your opinion.
The ball has been rolling. S-Off has nothing to do with AOSP/AOKP. DMeadows and I'm sure others has been working on a Cyanogenmod port for some time now. Protekk recently joined the quest as well. Read up in the dev section

s-off doesn't mean AOSP, MIUI, etc.
As stated about a thousand times before the RIL, which is what is holding us back, is not going to be any easier to get with s-off.

why do people keep saying that s-off gets us asop? Who started that rumor lol!
S-Off = Hboot fully unlocked.
Aosp/Aokp = RIL source needed, not S-Off.

I think my question may have been worded incompletely/wrong. What I'm asking is, since we have S-Off, won't people like cyanogen be MORE likely to support us since you wont have to flash hboots and what have you to change roms and radios and such? I understood the whole RIL problem holding AOSP back a long time ago. I'm talking about "Official" support.

Do I understand why the RIL is the bottleneck... only that I know whats needed to fix it is in the offical source that we don't currently have so it can have the right files and commands. So seriously, please stop the *sigh*, "We've covered this one thousand million times", "Omg not this again" comments. I'm a mature adult. I'd like to talk to some who are also.

what do you expect from us when someone with 8 posts, asks a question incorrectly? We can't guess what you intended to say, and we had every right to be annoyed with what you posted as your original post has been asked "about a million times."
I also take personal insult from the fact you are referring to me as immature as you tried to quote me there, when you are the one who can't even articulate a question to ask what you "claim" you intended to say.
Good day!
I don't think the s off is going to bring any devs that wouldn't have taken on the project while it was s on. Most of the devs who walked away from the rezound early on did so because early on the user base was rude, demanding, appreciative, and many were unintelligent and appreciative.
It has improved, there's a lot of really respectful and brilliant rezound users, and there's a lot of great devs among us, but as a whole, maybe due to the marketing of such nice hardware being based on "beats" there's still a lot of drama and unneeded crap being stirred up by a few bad apples.
The aosp ball started rolling last week again with protekk deciding to take on RIL, and others will also contribute to the effort.
S-off is greatly appreciated by me and a huge help to the community as a whole. But it's definitely not what was holding up AOSP in my opinion. I don't know any devs who would be asked to help out on the RIL by a friend of theirs and would say "no way I'm touching that because that phone is s on with an oem unlocked bootloader.

Nosympathy: Please do not take it as a personal insult. I do appreciate all the devs on here and I know that there are surely some who are not mentioned anywhere on the the forum who deserve praise. My problem is that there is no reason to post if all you're going to do is put down the question. If you have a problem answering the question... just don't answer it. A non constructive answer... is no answer at all. I've read thread after thread where unknowing people ask questions about things that only people who read this forum constantly know. Is the information somewhere in the depths of this forum... yeah I'm sure its tucked away somewhere, but you know what? Sometimes its just easier to ask, so please don't take it personal, just let someone else answer if you don't want to answer it. I'm not referring to any particular person. Quite honestly, I'm tired of seeing threads where 3/4 of the posts are this nonsense bashing people about something already posted somewhere else. Isn't that what the moderators are for? Yeah. I'm not gonna sit here and get flamed for an honest question, and getting your panties in a wad because you don't like me quoting you in response to your reply that didn't help anything at all...
I do appreciate ALL whom have made even the slightest contribution to this phone. However, it doesn't make you mightier than God, nor does it give you a right to blow smoke over everyone.

Progress on Nexus 4 conversion / compatible roms

Just checking in with the current developers of the Optimus G to seer how far along we're coming to seeing actual roms being ported directly from the Nexus 4 core or having a remotely aosp jelly bean based experience on our devices. I thought I read the other day in the forums that some people were working on allowing the roms to be cross compatible with both devices through some means of hacking, unless I'm mistaken?
Anyways, until then I'll just be patient and check back daily on the excellent progress that's been made on the phone within such a short timeframe of release. I for one appreciate that greatly! My excitement is what makes it so difficult to wait is all

IRC doesn't archive. If anything current progress should be included in the roadmap sticky as it pertains to just that.
I also idle IRC most of the time but 90% of the conversation seems to consists of cars, guns, LGNPST requests and IRC bot chatter. I don't mind it, I just miss a lot of pertinant information because it gets lost in waves of text.
I still love the IRC conversation though, I just miss a lot. Commenting on this 9000 year old thread wasn't an attempt to argue with people about derail subjects that they inject to downplay the differences between two context groups.
Just pointing out the simple differences between progress requests and ETA's.

dsb9938 does some great work. As a (non-Android) developer myself, I know how frustrating it can be when software issues arise, especially when you have ungrateful users that feel like they are entitled to a piece of software that is developed for free by someone in their spare time that asks for nothing in return. It's disgusting. This is why we can't have nice things.
I hope that dsb9938 decides to come back. We need people like him to help unlock our devices full potential. Screw the whiners. Let them be drown in their own misery.

kids who read GPL and think they are owed, and DESERVE something. people like DSB do it in his free time, and people expect paid support.
that is what this is.
All i have to say about all of this is. Anyone should be able to say there opinion. That is in a good way. If you are just writing a post to piss someone off i believe that you should be banned from the forums. No ifs, and's, or buts.
It is ridiculous anyone would grip about a mod that clearly starts off with the phrase "I am in no way responsible..." I haven't even switched from the stock rom just because I want things to work. If I was willing to explore and felt like reloading my setup to switch roms, I wouldn't *****. It is to be expected. When a new rom is released, I wait to see what the issues (if any) are before I would attempt a re-flash.
There are good devs on this board but I have seen quite a few of them get chased away by whiners and complainers. Hell, I am still using a rom from Roebeet on my GTab who used to be here but left for the same reason. He actually started his own website to build roms. It is a hobby, not a job. Don't expect stuff and you will not be disappointed.
Just remember, a lot of these whiners are the new generation who will be running this country in a few years and making it suck for all of us.
So I just picked up my replacement DNA last night and it just hit me. How am I going to unlock and root without the unsecured kernel? Or anybody else for that matter. This is bigger than first imagined if only very early adopters have root. Wow this sucks bad.

While Luke's comments weren't "productive" , they also were not rude or ban worthy. While I enjoy dsb's work, he has a bad attitude in general and I thought it was disrespectful as well as made him look like a giant cry baby for saying he'd never release anything else because Luke asked him to have some accountability for the fact he messed up on his latest kernel, 2.3.1 which was rebooting everybodies phones. Luke may have gone about it the wrong way, but I believe he felt as I did. Felt that dsb was ignoring the fact that there was something seriously wrong with his latest kernel. Dsb had incinuated that it wasn't his kernel that made everbodies phones lock up and reboot, but it was "problems with the phone, even on stock". Nobody minds if you make a mistake and your work directly messes up phones. At least take responsibility and admit you were wrong so you can start working on a fix. Also dsb was frequently rude to commentors who did nothing wrong or acted flip towards them. This behavior is simply unacceptable especially for a recognised developer. Recognized developers represent xda and they should carry themselves with respect for others and themselves while posting on the forums, even if others don't always.
To the OP of this thread. Grow up.

You can still do all those things. I followed the cube kernal from day one and to me the luke guy is being made a villian here. don't know him, don't care to know him. but DSB was very sarcastic to him on the forums. that's when they both started talking crap. either way it sucks and hope he decides to return. i used all the kernals he made and ended up sticking with the unsecured. but swipe to unlock was great. unless you've read the entire cube thread don't jump to judge.
Luke *****ed about every build and he kept egging on the dev every chance he could. As noted in another thread about this, Luke was rude to the moderators too so it's not just DSB.

Luke definitely is missing a filter. Again for me this isn't about Luke's actions but Dsb's. Dsb will constantly run into lukes everywhere in life. Not just on the forums. My advice to dsb is to work on his forbearance for others.
