I have a question..
It is my understanding that unlock code is stored in a file in Vibrant.
So, in the process of flashing custom ROMs and then reverting back to stock, i used the stock ROM that was uploaded in an XDA thread.
Does it mean i have overwritten my unlock code? Can't i no longer use the unlock code that T-Mobile sent me? I haven't tried it (waiting for the JI6 to arrive on my phone).

Hello,
I currently have a Unlocked stock vibrant that I am using with an ATT SIM. I would like to start experimenting with different ROMS/Kernels and was wondering if I will need to "Unlock" my phone every time I flash a new ROM or kernel.
In which scenarios will I need to redo the unlock process and in which will I not?
Thanks.
Yes, You need to unlock it each time. Keep the code.
i have a samsung vibrant.. and im from Sri Lanka!! so obviously i need to unlock it.. but my concern is that after unlocking with code with stock rom (2.1 Eclair) , if i install Auxora or any custom rom, will i lose my unlock?? and alternately can i unlock AFTER installing a custom rom staight away ?? And what is the backup for nv_data som file all about?? please help as i am a newbie to android !!
No you will not lose your unlock. I however cannot verify if the new OTA(from official release) does this. The current posted ROMS will not.
I am not sure what you are asking about the nv_data file, please explain further.
So is it fine to unlock using the guide and THEN install custom roms?? ???.. but i read some forums that you need to backup the efs folder which contains the nv_data.bin file so that u can generate the unlock codes... please reply.. thank you!!
I have unlocked and installed ROM over ROM just fine. IF for some reason it does lock back there is an unlock tool in the "bible" thread stickied at the top. Takes all of 30 seconds to lock and unlock.
alright.. so Why BACKUP THE EFS FOLDER ???? confused~~!!
Hi everyone, I'm new to Android OS. I have Samsung Vibrant from Tmobile with Froyo (2.2) OS and Tmobile provided me an unlock code coz I'm using AT&T right now. I would like to do rooting and custom ROM, will I loose my unlock if I install a fresh custom ROM? Thanks in advance.
No you will not lose the unlock. I have installed Bionix and it's work like a charm.
Thanks for the quick reply
No you will not. I've flashed my phone with a custom rom and i still have my unlock.
Hi,
I will be moving out of the country for a little while and was wondering if anyone could help me out with unlocking my vibrant. (see sig for current set up)
I have attempted using several market utilities but have had no luck, i havent yet called T-mobile because im fairly certain that the unlock code with custom roms installed wont work (correct me if im wrong this is just an assumption im making)
Does any one know of a way to sim unlock the vibrant while on custom roms?
Do i have to use a hex editor?
If i flash back to stock, use sim unlock provided by t-mobile, will the unlock persist after flashing a custom rom?
Thank you in advance to those who reply.

Unlocking has nothing to do with having a custom rom or not.
1. Easiest way is to call T-Mobile for unlock code
2. Quickest way is to follow these directions:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045
3. Yes you will need a hex editor and be able to use adb.
Once unlocked it will stay unlocked after flashing custom roms.
I was just in an area without decent T-mobile coverage and had to unlock to use a AT&T GoPhone sim. Did #2 from above. 10 minutes max.
I'm selling my Sprint Note 3 that I had rooted before the lollipop upgrade. Since then I put a lollipop rom on it.
Two stupid noobie questions that I couldn't find answers to when I searched ..
1. Since I'm rooted am I also unlocked ... can he use an att Sim card and use it on att?
2. Do I need a specific rom that would make this possible ... or is there a way to test it to prove to him that it works?
Thanks for the answers.
Just FYI... There's a difference between unlocked carrier and unlocked boot loader.
You do not need a custom ROM to use another Sim card, but you need to unlock the carrier on the phone
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
Is there a way to tell if I did a carrier unlock? I don't really even remember what method I used to root it.
You unlock the boot loader to flash a custom rom?
To sim unlock you would have had to run SSU.app or GT.app to international unlock then odined a older radio mj4 or mi3. Then change the APNs to match the carrier's settings for internet and mms messages.
I called sprint and got the master unlock codes ... is there an easy way to unlock it now that I have those?
