[Q] Best Roms Available - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am very curious as to what the best roms are for the vibrant. I am thinking of possibly flashing soon. I heard of Eugene's Rom, Bionix, JAC, etc. Wondering what the pros and cons are before attempting. Thanks!

IMO, stick with Eugene's or Bionix. I have used both, I personally prefer Bionix, but it really is personal preference as they are both great devs and they both code a very solid ROM. Didn't think JAC had roms, thought he did Kernels, but not sure.

I like bionix but no mms so......yea I need mms

I like deodexed stock rom with KK's kernel.
Also I use a little script to remove all that bloat, and install custom themes. And modify framework....

Bionix fusion or Bionix 1.9. 1? Which is better?

I'm trying to figure what rom to use. I can't really seem to decide which is faster. Is there another rom that you guys think is stable and very fast?

Try both and see which one you prefer.
I like Fusion since it has almost gotten rid off the touchwiz crap.
right now i am running this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773018
it is a great ROM, and it flies. i do not have any lag fix installed and i have absolutely no lag at all. and touchwiz is completely removed
I was loving Bionix 1.9 but I Odin-ed back to Stock JI6 because I think Froyo is coming out soon. It was released internationally last week and the Captivate already has it.
I am sure Fusion is very nice but I got sick of flashing new ROMS every other day. Just my 2 cents.

this is my first ROM and i am running Bionix 1.9.1 for a few days now. stable so far, works as advertised. i am running bionix191_JACS_OCUV_VOODOO and i have also installed SetCPU. if you decide to go with it please make sure you take a look at this before you do anything: https://sites.google.com/site/projec...allation-guide. if you follow the guide you should have no probs.
i have noticed battery life improvement after installing 1.9.1 and reconditioning battery, it has been unplugged since about 7:30am and after 3 calls one lasting 40mins while on blue tooth and constant work e-mails i am sitting at 63% at the time of writing this. so in 8 hours i have dropped 37% its a big improvement from before.
just my experience

It really comes down to preference. Is there a speed difference from 1.9.1 to Fusion 1.0? Most users think that Fusion is faster, but I came from 1.8 so I can't comment on it. Fusion is awesome. If you don't mind TWiz than go with 1.9.1, however, if you're like me and can't stand TWiz, go with Fusion 1.0. It is amazing.

You will likely be waiting for awhile. Froyo hasn't even been mentioned for the Vibrant yet. The Source code was released for 2.2 but that is a far cry from a working fully functional ROM. You do realize you don't have to keep flashing the most current ROM they release right?

Yeah I was going Flash crazy and I must admit it is addictive LOL. Anyway, every Bionic ROM was slightly different, for example one had JI2 modem for better battery and the next one had JI6 for better data. I had to see for myself which one was best for me. Eventually I decided to go back to stock with the latest official JI6 OTA update to receive the Froyo OTA .

Hey there, don't get your panties in a bunch.. That ROM actually didn't fully remove touchwiz like you claim. There are some things that are still touchwiz there like twframework-res
But if your choice is Fusion or Bionix.. go with fusion
I've tried both... Go with Fusion if you don't use the TW launcher. If you are unsure about LP, its very cool.
I am running 1. 9 and I love it so far but I do miss cm5 on my mytouch slide :-( I hope it does work out for cm6 on the vibrant.

^ Eugene makes a very solid ROM and is usually slightly ahead of the other DEV's here. (I.E.- He has released (I believe) 3 builds of Froyo so far) where most other DEV's are just getting started on Froyo. Most DEV's use Eugene's work as a base for their own ROM's. I started with Eugene's ROM and have since moved to Bionix out of sheer personal preference. I like the look and feel of the Bionix ROM's more than I like Eugene's.
That being said, when he gets the GPS fixed on his most recent Froyo ROM, I may just have to flash it up to see how I like it
I think he got gps working on his newest 2.2 rom. I could be wrong though. I'm going to give that a run tonight
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I haven't tried either yet - still in OCD research phase before trying anything new and scary like a custom ROM ...
That said, I'm leaning toward Bionix. I understand the difference between the two is effectively whether you prefer Touchwiz and LauncherPro. They're both otherwise on relatively equal footing.
I've tried LP with homeswitcher and honestly it's nifty but it's niftiness couldn't outweight my familiarity with Touchwiz. This vibrant is my first android phone so that probably speaks volumes as to why I had no previous conceptions of what the UI ought to behave like...
I'd suggest to the OP to also just try out LP with homeswitcher prior to flashing a ROM and you can easily see for yourself which format tickles your pickle more.

[Q] Whats a stable ROM for the Vibrant? need to flash my cousins phone

I have a captivate, so I'm only familar with captivate roms.
My cousin wants me to flash her phone with a similar rom that I have (cognition). the only problem is that I don't see her all that much, so I need something that is stable and I can flash and then not have to worry about her running into problems without me being there to fix it for her.
I'm looking for just the most popular and most stable rom that is out for the vibrant. I've heard good things about Axura. Is this my best bet?

I've never tried Axura myself, but I've heard so many good things about it that I'd say its probably one of the most stable ones out, also the developer is a very active member of this forum which is a definite plus
Axura 2.1.
It had a few minor bugs but that's it.nothing majoe

They're all buggy
I've flashed quite a few ROMs, and the most stable has been the simple combo of Eugene's JK2 froyo with the JK6 modem, and with the stock kernel.

No Axura 2.1 is actually a 2.2 rom it's just up to v2.1. All Axura roms have been Froyo starting with 1.0 and up. You can get it over at devsforandroid.com It's really smooth has some nice animations the GPS worked perfect for me. The only issue I had was sending MMS but you can replace the Samsung app with the stock Android one or just download something like ChompSMS on the Market. Oh and the dev Master threw in a bunch of extra wallpapers and sounds. And pretty damn good battery life, full day anyway.
try macnut 14 final
with i/o kernel from eugene
smooth stable fast and good looking....

Gingerbread_Clone_r2 or Nero 4
both are very fine choices
or the new G0dzilla ROM
it's good
1.7GHz overclock
Any of the newer froyo builds with voodoo are great.
Nero v 4.1
Axura 2.2.6
Ginger Clone r2
Really depends on what your friend is looking for, and if he is smart enough to disable voodoo before flashing anything else.
AXURA is my rom of choice, but yes, all the roms are pretty sweet

Samsung Vibrant rockin' Auxura 2.2.6 w/ Dragon Kernel 2.6 w/voodoo sound
Has anyone compared call reception between the different ROMs?
I'd also like to give a very honorable mention to the m10 rom as well. They have been flying under the radar, but are very goods imo. I've been going back and forth between it and nero4 for the past couple of days, and I find it refreshing and cool in comparison! You should check it out.

Axura is my vote. Superb everything with attention paid not just to the appearance but to functionality and use. Eugene and Sombionix work is always just outstanding.

I absolutely agree with you, the M10 ROM runs super nice, for the moment you just have to use a different launcher but other than that it's a great ROM also.
Having tried both the latest versions of Axura and Nero. My favor still rests with Axura.

Rockin that Nero 4.1 w/Voodoo + s.b.g.2.3
Cant go wrong with Nero V4.. Very clean Very fast.
Sent from my bottle of whiskey
I'm still on Macnut hehe, and about to switch to one of these newer roms.
Is it fair to say...
When comparing Axura and Nero:
Axura is more "themed", and Nero is more "GB-ish"?
Otherwise, both have great performance/battery life etc etc.
thanks.
Gingerbread_Clone_R2 is great!
especially with voodoo!!!
my vote is for the Axura rom... it is the only one I have found to be bug free and functions extremely fast and smooth...
well my friend likes the look of froyo 2.3 b8, he is stock he hasnt even rooted it yet so i guess a rom thats most like that one that installs voodoo and the lagfix as part of the rom dont have to add em in, thanks

nero v4 is there any bad bugs and does it have voodoo, and is touchwiz in froyo 2.3b8? reason i ask is he likes look of my rom im not sure if it has touchwiz or not. how do i flash it from bone stock phone? thanks
Nero V4.1 was the first ROM I ever flashed on any phone (did so yesterday on my vibrant without any problems). Although I can't say much about any other customs ROMs since this is the first time I've done this. I have to say that going from stock 2.1 to Nero with voodoo, the improvement is... Hold on let me- HUGE.
So far I've re-installed all my apps along with market links, tried new ones, tested the mobile WiFi AP, installed flash, played some videos, and it has never frozen up or even lag. Also, I think it started speaking or something on the first boot.

[Q] Top 10 ROMS

Since I've just started using ROMS. I was wondering, is there a list or thread of the top 10 most used/best ROMS? Thanks in advance guys!
Not sure of Top 10, All I can say, every one gets a different score or opinion for each rom. Its matterof personal preference on what you like on each rom.
Not in any order or priority, list of roms that have consistent positive feedback and updates.
Team Whiskey
Eugene
Einherjar (Multiple Devs Merged into 1)
Try Nero v4.1 with overclock kernal. This has to be number one. Very fast and stable. 65 fps, 2000+ quadrant scores, no lag issues. Its a very good rom. I'm more than impressed.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
For me I can tell you my top 3.
1. Axura 2.2.6.0 - Master
2. Nero 4.1 -Team Whiskey (good if you like overclocking)
3. Pepperkake 3.5.2 - Jelette
All 3 of these roms are fast and stable. I personally found Axura rom to work the best for my needs.

These 3 are all great, and The statement "I personally found the XXXX rom to work the best for my needs" is ultimately the bottom line...... personal choice
I use the Axura as of now, I get least amount of banding in my FFC with it and the best battery life.
Thanks for the info guys!

NERO
GingerClone
Axura
are probably the best, and most popular out currently, i use nero, but love both ginger clone and axura!
Which one gives you the best battery life?
Battery wise, axura gave me the best with no reconditioning.
Nero with reconditioning gives about an hour or less than axura, but battery life is all dependent on how u use your phone
For me, I use axura cos my gps works with it, with nero my gps doesn't.
But have to say battery life with nero is very good.
Would love to try pepperkake /eighnjar ROMs too..

I flashed the latest version of Axura last night and I am blown away. This is my first custom ROM (coming from stock Eclair JI6) and I am loving it. It's hard to believe this was developed by enthusiasts and is available for free. (I will donate of course!)
I am sure the other ROMs are great, too. I'll be trying them soon
I would like to know which of the roms is the most stable.

You LOSE all your apps and contacts unless you back them up first! Follow the Noob guide posted in this forum to back up your apps using Titanium backup.
Edit: The Axura update doesn't delete your videos and pictures that you took with the camera. I had backed those up but they were there when the new ROM loaded up
It doesn't wipe your internal or external SD card, but it does wipe all your apps. Everything on SD cards will stay exactly like they were preflash (barring certain circumstances, but I won't get into those right now. These issues are not present with any of the current roms (using stock kernels)

[Q] froyo roms?

Basically until we get official gingerbread source we will not have completely stable rims (gps, mute/unmute, wifi calling, etc). Is development for froyo roms completely over. I see a few and in using bionix v. Wondering if any devs willing to continue developing more awesome froyo roms. Maybe more with an aosp look. Don't recommend gb roms because I need gps and call quality for work everyday use.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Um, we do have a plethora stable roms! Just not for 2.3. You probably won't get your request filled 'less you do it yourself. Devs have taken froyo about as far as they can go. There are tons of themes and kernels out there to customize just about any froyo rom to your liking. I'm a personal fan of Bionix 1.3.1 with the Gingerbread launcher. EDT has a bunch of flavors out there, too.
I've heard the Official 2.3.4 will be out this week. (Gingerbread iirc) Any confirmation on that?
