[Q] Orange UK OTA x10 mini system update - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hello Everyone,
As an early adopter of the x10 mini on orange UK I rooted my phone many moons ago, and removed the junk orange had installed.
Thank you for the excellent and easy guide kabaldan, only took me a few moments.
My x10 mini is now offering what appears to be an ‘over the air’ System update (I believe offered by orange). I’m hoping that this will be a much newer version of android (the one SE had been holding back).
I’m nervous to install this until I hear that someone else has installed this update on a rooted x10 mini and that it can still be rooted afterwards.
Alternatively, is it possible to use the SE software to install the update and get and root SE’s version not orange’s?
Lastly I know I wont loose anything on the SD card (pics, vids etc) but what settings will I loose?
If no-one else has tried it, I might just have to go ahead anyway and post back my results.
Thanks for your time, and keep up the excelent work.

I should make it clear that I'm already running 1.6 1.1.A.0.8 so I believe this is a 2.x update not a 1.6.x update as per the other OTA thread in x10 mini general forum.

Its not 2.x , is a small firmware update for better wifi performance. BTW its really old one too!! , for confirmation can you tell whats the size of the update?

15.1 MB
Please let it be 2.x

Probably 1.2.A.1.183 by the sounds of it, which will be the branded version of 1.2.A.1.174

Thank you both of you.
Guys please accept my sincere apologies.
Moderators feel free to close, hide, delete, and punish me for this mistake.
I'm back to dreaming of 2.x updates which may or may not be due this century.

According to JournalDuGeek, the 2.1 update will be coming in November when the LiveView is released.

[Q] Does an "official" update "flash" the whole phone ?

Coming from a WM background I am used to flash ROMs and lose more or less everything...
How does it work with a X10 moving to 2.1 ?
Will my GF phone lose everything that has been installed once it is updated ?
Thanks and sorry for the X10 newbie question

Ask again when 2.1 gets released.
Ok, let's forget about the 2.1 thing , what about from 1.6 to 1.7 ?
Did the 1.7 update start from fresh ? That will give me an idea about the future I guess
Thanks
I am supposed to install my GF new phone, and I just want to know if I should wait for the end of the month or start today

"1.7", we're all still on 1.6.
Backup the phone, as the chances are it will wipe the phone.
In answer to your question.. couple of background points first for your benefit..
the current version of android for x10 is 1.6.. we are due to move to 2.1 shortly..
however, the android version is only part of the picture.. SE have developed their own build on the top of that and there have been several versions of this Firmware since the phone was launched..
My experience.. I seem to recall the phone being reset when I went from R1FB014 to R1FB016 but when I updated to R2BA020 and more recently to 026 I was given the option by SEUS to retain current config and just update the firmware in the background..
I don't know though if the change to 2.1 will be the same because it contains some fundamental changes so a complete reset might be needed.. but I don't know for sure.. in this case, only time will tell..#
Hope that helps.

[Q] Assistence with moving form old gen to new 2.1 xperia x10i

Hi guys,
I been waiting here in s.a for andriod update..... hmph useless basically, but i have been informed that if i flash my systems with the british generic it will work. thing being is, i got the very old gen build and everything.
heres my details.
Model :x10i
firmware: 1.6
baseband : 1.0.14
kernel: 2.6.29-rel semc-android (AT) semc #2
build: R1FA014
K here what i need, information on to how to get this system into the new 2.1 system, i seen steps there already for build r2 but nothing on my build so any assistence, also, what should i backup? numbers? apps? (dnt really care abt apps) its mainly my pics, movies and numbers but there on sd card accept my numbers.
This is such a noob thing i know, i been out of the firm bending deal for very long time so any assistence in getting this up and running would be AWESOME!
Oh yea not to bump or anything, as far as i can see my phone where i found all this details out doesnt seam to have any branding of any sort. so i guess even global generic verison would do, but please guys tell me what would be best based on the information given above.
P.s its R.S.A :\ had some one once saying im from south america when where no where near there
Debrand. Go Nordic. Done.
Oh, and also Search!
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793
Download X10i_2_0_A_0_504_GLOBAL.
Run the flash tool.
In 3m:40s, your phone will be on v2.1*
*Backup all your data using Titanium Backup and/or SMS Backup & Restore first. Install SEUS, PC Companion and connect your phone in flash mode before using the flasher so that all the drivers install.

It will update both your firmware, 1.6 - 2.1 and build R1FA014 to X10I Global.
Will work on yours.
Hey guys, thanks for the help! best part when i started to do this, getting the SUES to install the correct drivers, i tryed the Online update and sony updated my phone to what seams to be identical version above. so i believe my phone is generaly a global version, Thanks you guys for the support, this gave me a better understanding on how to root a device for future use.

AT&T X10a running X10i Nordic 2.1 downgrade and reupgrade?

Hey guys. This is my first post on this forum, although I've been lurking for quite some time.
When 2.1 had just come out, there was an X10 flasher that would flash 2.1 to X10a phones, which was great for people like me who were on AT&T and hadn't gotten the update yet (and STILL haven't). I noticed that there's a 2.1 rom for the X10a and I was wondering if there's any reason I should switch over to that. If so, can I just use the flashers listed over in that forum, or is there something I need to do to my X10a now that it's running an X10i firmware?
This is sortof related, as well. I want to install xrecovery, so I downloaded the Busybox installer from the market, but it won't install. Surely not because of my X10i firmware, eh?
I apologize for the newbie questions. This is my first android phone and I'm still learning all of the intimate details of the OS.

There is no reason to switch if you are happy with your current FW. However, if you want, yes you can choose the flash tool on here to switch from one 2.1 version to another. Regarding busybox, you need to be rooted to install it.
I'm rooted. I think the problem with busybox is my microsd is currently in my nook. I just rooted it yesterday.
Anyway, the reason I want to switch firmware is because I'd like to try out some custom roms. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I needed to do other than use the flasher before flashing my phone. My friend somehow managed to screw up his Xperia the other night when flashing the old 1.6 rom. We're still trying to figure out the problem.

You can NOT flash from 2.1 to 1.6 with the normal method. You need to download the AT&T unbrick FW and use it with the flash tool. Hopefully, this will solve your friend's problem.
Thanks so much! I'm going to test it out on mine before I try to tell him how to do it (he's not very tech savvy. haha).
I have to disagree. I have ATT and I originally flashed the x10a Brazil Generic and I had Voice Search. I just tried the newest x10i .24 update and I lost the Voice Search (google app that is only currently available in the USA and Froyo 2.2 or with factory software). I just flashed back with the Global x10a and the Voice Search tab (microphone) showed up for a second on first start, but quickly disappeared and the normal tab (magnifying glass) showed up. I am currently searching to forums looking for the Brazil x10a version to reflash my phone and get my voice search back...it is far and away the best feature on my phone...I hope I can find it.

[Q] about to take a plunge....

my service provider is atrocious (3mobile Australia) as they still haven't released the proper update for my X10a. I havent really fully understood the process because there is too much information i.e. old/new/contradicting/too difficult/too many problems... so i decided that i might take the plunge and follow this simple one here on this site
Code:
lazeroth4th.blogspot.com/2010/11/as-in-my-previous-post-ive-said-that-i.html
(sorry if im not allowed to post that link....)
heres some questions i have
i was wondering if i use the global generic firmware will that affect me in any way? I've heard of people haveing trouble with mediascape and timescape not working and needing to be installed in complicated methods
after flashing it to the global generic FW will i just be able to use SEUS to upgrade my 1.6 X10 to 2.1?
Will i be able to upgrade my phone as SE rolls out more updates?
will i be able to come back to my Australian firmware? if so, how can i do that?
please bear with my noobishnes....i've spent at least 8 hours looking at different sites and i just wanna make 100% sure i want to do this...

In regards to issues with mediascape and timescape i had no issues. Well i never had to issues apart from laggyness at the beginnig which is expected. Youll be able to update as normal via pcc or seus. In terms of Australian firmware you can as long as your rooted, there is a thread in this forum on how to do this.
Sent from my X10i Quadrant 832 using XDA App
anther question sorry......
I found an app called androot that roots my phone in the push of a button without the long process. and it installs something called superuser. is that a viable means of rooting my phone or is there a difference in the result of the two methods...

Couple of quick questions concerning de-rooting Tablet S

Hi,
I've got a Portuguese Tablet S (not XPeria, non-3G) that I rooted and flashed with the very first ICS that was released many months ago (the US 2.6.39.4 [email protected] #1 firmware).
While I like the new look etc, I've always felt that this rom was a lot slower and unstable than the original GB. Typing (even after going back to the default keyboard) has tons of lag, I sometimes see a screen-wide triangle while switching apps etc.
At the same time, I'm thinking about giving the Tablet S to my daughter and would like to wipe it and make it as standard as possible so she'll run into less troubles.
In a nutshell, I have 3 questions:
1) Are these bugs and slowness fixed by later official releases of ICS? Is it worth installing the release 5 he keeps suggesting?
2) If I install de OTA release 5, I expect I will lose root and I have no problem with that. Is there a risk of bricking it, though? I mean, going from a rooted to a non-rooted OTA... is that a problem?
3) Am I correct in believing that release 5 is only available in the US and I'm only getting this OTA suggestion because the Tablet's region was set to US on the old root? Is there a problem with installing r5? Will it have the Portuguese language as the current (also US FW) has?
Please let me know and many thanks for your help! :good:
Hi,
I have bought my tablet s in US but I live in Brazil. I use r5 and it has both Portugal and Brazilian portuguese.

Thanks Harerton - this is great to know! :good:
Only thing missing is asking again if installing r5 OTA will just unroot the Tablet S (which is ok by me) or brick the thing. Can anyone shed light on this?
Cheers!

Yes, you will lose root access if you update your Sony Tablet S to 4.0.3r5. If you can wait until mid-December, Sony will be issuing a world-wide 4.0.3r5a update for the Sony Tablet S.
