Ideas please! I've ran Evil Eris 3.0 for months and months and had no problems and loved it. I recently switched to KaosFroyo V37. I like it a lot but the battery life seems to not be so great. Looking for idea's on what rom you all think is the best for reliability everyday use and battery life. At work i get 0 bars or just 1bar. I know that's a huge problem but Evil Eris 3.0 was good other than if you turned the gps on it would stay on and you would have to re-boot to fix sometimes.
I run v37 too and have also had some battery issues. Does anyone know of another froyo rom with even better battery life? Note: my brightness is on the lowest possible setting and allegedly uses 70% battery... Also, ive found myself having to turn off 3g to make it to the end of the day. Lastly, when i get to about 90 percent full charging i get the green light. Any ideas?

Plain and simple, no matter what froyo you're using you are going to notice a significantly shorter battery life when moving from 2.1 to 2.2 and there is not much you can do about it. Are you using collins battery script? If not, that should help somewhat. Also, turn off auto sync and if OC'd, crank that down as well. Also make sure BT, and GPS are disable.
As for your LED lighting up when only at 90%, try to recal your battery and see if that does the trick - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780724&highlight=recalibrate
Nonsensikal is a great rom with great battery life.
I use my phone with minimal use I guess you would say, texting most of the day, couple calls, turning on 3G for 5 mins at a time to roam the internet/apps about maybe 5-10 a day. My battery lasts me about 2 days without a charge with that kind of use.
Great ROM, wonderful theme, and great battery life. Try it out.

Um 2.2 does not intrinsically have worse battery life than 2.1. In fact JIT is supposed to increase battery life. I am on Tazz froyo and I get like... at least 20 hours on a normal day. Slow days I can get 30+.
Make sure you're using the latest kernels.

I flashed in Conap's latest CFS kernel in KaosFroyo v37 and have no complaints. I have the screen set to drop the cpu to 245 when blacked out. It seems fine.
I haven't tried colin_ph's script yet but its on my to-do list.
cfs is pretty sick. What exactly does it stand for?

From what I understand froyo is set up to give you the green led light while charging once you hit 90% charge. I think 2.1 was maybe 95% or 100% I can't remember exactly what it was. It's not a problem though your phone will still charge to 100% on froyo you just get the green light sooner.
Really? That explains a lot and now i know im not damaging my battery while charging after the green light. Thanks

I didn't see anybody else mention it so I thought I would throw this out:
Use "Toggle 2G" from the market with Froyo ROMs to extend battery reserve.
This (free) app shuts off the 3G Mobile network a (programmable) number of minutes after the screen is blanked, and turns it back on when you next light up the screen again. Having a few minutes delay is useful - if you fire off an e-mail, and the counterparty responds within that interval, you will get the notification (I'm thinking of Gmail/push here), but if you are ignoring your phone for an extended period of time, it is saving some juice. (Text messages are still delivered as they are 1x/RTT, aka 2G)
Toggle 2G never worked on my phone. Maybe I just didn't have it configured correctly.
Thanks, ill try toggle 2g now

I'm also wondering this same thing..I just ordered my eris and would like to find a good reliable rom that I wont need to change in the near future.
I wish there was like a poll or something setup as a sticky...though with version changes that might be kinda hard to maintain.
My advice:
Vanilla Froyo: Either Nonsensikal, or Tazz Froyo
2.1 Sense: Either XtrSense, or (preferably) xtrRCMix
2.1 Vanilla: Not a big fan of those so Im not even gonna say anything
2.2 Sense: Help out and be tester
Im running xtrRCMix and I LOVE IT. Great battery life and amazing Rom. BUT, flash the v6 CFS kernel for a near perfect experience with it

I use the xtrSense and it's on CFS I think and it's running just fine. I may try xtrRCMix.
I was excited when I heard that Froyo source from the mesmerize was applicable to the Fascinate. I had reverted to DJ05 voodoo5 because Froyo was just not practical and had too many bugs. The issues I noticed on Froyo but not on DJ05 are as follows:
1. Battery life very sporadic. Sometimes OK battery life 5-7% per hour light usage but other times heavy battery drain 10-15% per hour same or no use at all. (Doesn't apply so much to the new kernels battery seems to be a bit better 3-5% per hour screen off but not as good as I got on DJ05 with 1-3% per hour screen off) Tested this multiple times while I was at work.
2. Not nearly as responsive as DJ05 despite better benchmarks.
3. Signal constantly drops to 1x and sometimes stays there until reboot. I live in a major city there should be no reason for the signal to go down that much especially since I probably had 4 bars 3G 10 seconds before it dropped to 1x.
4. Tasker displays low memory in notification bar even though not many things are open. Not sure if there are memory leaks or what but when I first boot my phone and I do a level 2 clear of RAM I have about 160-180Mb used but at the end of the day if I do a L2 clear it doesn't go down at all and stays at 250-270Mb used until I reboot. This causes my phone to slow down/freeze even when only a few applications are open and is very annoying.
5. My phone gets very hot, did not experience this on 2.1.
6. SD scan takes a lot longer.
I guess my point is that even with the source Froyo just doesn't seem to be worth switching to, for me at least. My phone feels much more practical and easier to use with DJ05. Is anyone else experiencing these issues even with the new kernel source? The Fascinate forums have been dead the past week so it's kind of getting my hoped up on development.
1. Had the same with all kernels until using this one (finally back to loosing max 4% overnight).
2. Disagree.
3. Same. Until I started using the DL09 radio/modem (with froyo).
4. I never even look at or have a task manager. I just know froyo does a much better job of memory management.
5. Never had this happen on eclair or froyo.
6. With 9gigs of media on my card and ext4 file system it only take about 6 seconds on boot.
good day.
I agree with most of your points, Zac. Seriously, almost the exact same experiences. I have been extremely frustrated and disappointed with battery life. I'm at a loss to explain the inconsistent battery drains nor do I find them easy to reproduce. Wacky! All I know is that there is something wrong with these Froyo Roms and I'm tired of hearing from posters that you need to recalibrate your battery and do this and that on reboot. The crap doesn't work. Its inconsistent at best. I had way better battery performance on 2.1 as well. Maybe I should go back?
I appreciate all the work of the devs on Froyo but just not sure were "there yet" as we were on 2.1. I don't know...

1. Not true for me. I'm on SC2.9.2 and checked lot of different voodoo kernels so far. Right now I'm on last imnuts's 100uv and getting around 30h with moderate use (~3h of display on). I'm using JuiceDeffender Ultimate but without it was still getting at least 24 hours.
2. Not true.
3. Not true but I'm on EA28 radio, it fixed missed calls issue for me.
4. Never had problems with lack of memory.
5. Never happen.
6. Not true.
Conclusion: do full DI01 restore, get OTA EA28 update then SC and your choice of froyo kernel but skip radio update. There is definitely something wrong with your phone.

My only issue with the EC01 ROM/Radio/Kernels was a problem locking on GPS, and that was fixed in the last couple of days with a change to the name server used.
My battery drains a little faster than I'd like while I'm using it but I get 24hrs with the way I use my phone. It's no secret that the 2.2 ROM's use more battery than 2.1 ROM's. Only you can decide how much that matters to you.
Have you tried a stock EB01 ROM? Or maybe debloated/deodexed. Then you would get the benefits of 2.2 with as little change as possible to your phone. I really liked my EB01 debloated/deodexed build. It let me upgrade the Swype and install the Bing free browser from the Canadian Mesmerize.
Like others have said I disagree about performance. Almost every upgrade in ROM has made an improvement on perceived performance. (I only use benchmarks to make sure lagfix is enabled).
I have had every issue except SOD on various ROM's but with EC01 I am completely satisfied with the setup I have now. (now that GPS is 'fixed').
In the end only you can decide if "it's worth it". You are not the first person to be happier on a stock build and that's not a bad thing.
1. I get pretty good battery life, might be better than when I had DJ05. Use juice defender as I find it helps a lot.
2. Not true, I find it just as responsive.
3. I do find that the signal drops, but not as much as you. I used to get full bars most of the time, but now it drops by 1-2 bars for no reason.
4. Never had any type of this problem. Only time my phone freezed up is when I used a 100mV undervolted kernel.
5. Mine only gets hot when I use it for GPS and charging the same time. Other than that, pretty cool.
6. I do believe there was something in the dev section that allows you to speed up scan if you want.

I update OTA last week on Verizon to Froyo 2.2. My battery was overheating and draining like crazy from my CPU usage being at a constant 99%..
I found the source of the problem. An app I use for facebook called "FLOW". The CPU usage was cut to 20% when I killed it with "Advanced Task Killer".
I resolved the issue by: Opening Flow.. going to Preferences.. Notification Settings.. Refresh Type.. Checked Periodic Polling (I was using Gmail Experimental previously)
Hope this helps...
My phone is running extreamly hot. The battery is only lasting 2 to 4 Hours. I am running Bionix 1.31 with the overstock kernel. I am overclocking the phone or doing anything special. I oden back to stock and reflashed the rom. It is still doing it.
I have been running this combo for months with out issues. Is there some cause for the phone to continue to run like this? Has anyone else ran in to this issue
Stop using overstock. Use bali UV version. You should get less heating with the UV.

i started having the same issue with the phone getting super hot anytime the screen was on a few months ago - killing my battery quickly as well (~1%/2 minutes with the screen on, regardless of what brightness or color is showing). i've undervolted like crazy, tried different ROMS, kernals, modems, etc. nothing changes anything.
system panel, spare parts, etc. show nothing out of the ordinary for apps causing it. the phone sleeps normally and otherwise functions perfectly.
i'm beginning to think it's a hardware issue.
Hello, my wife and I both have Vibrants and she has been having battery draining issues for the past week or so. She obviously says she didn't do anything or put anything new on the device. I have installed the same ROM on both phones and other than apps/games, they are the same. We have Axura 2.3.1.2 and a battery meter mod installed.
I have tried swapping batteries between our phones, didn't fix the issue. Swapped back to original batteries.
Ran through the wipe battery stats, fully charge, wipe stats in recovery, fully drain till shuts down, charge completely without interruption. Still has the draining/shutting down issue
She mentioned having issue with updating her Facebook app, so I uninstalled that this morning and she continues to have her device drain very fast, shut down periodically, unable to restart without a battery pull.
Would reinstalling the rom help? what are some other options I can do before wiping clean and starting over in hopes that solves the problem?
If you need any other info, I will be glad to get it for you.
Thanks.
What kind of battery life are you getting? For instance, what's your idea of poor battery life? Also, what does your wife use the phone for?
You may want to simply try a different ROM. Axura hasn't been updated since March. The most recent Froyo ROMs are Toxic8 and Zendroid.
I am using Toxic8 with the Bali 1.2 kernel and Juice Defender Plus, ... and getting 30+hrs with music (mp3 and streaming) all day long, some surfing, a lot of XDA. Sleeps over night and JD+ kills radios from 12-6am so nothing is sending data btwn those times eating up battery.
I just rebooted today to make a back up JIC but my uptime was approaching 300hrs. Heard good things about Zendroid too but I'm on Toxic8 and like it quite a bit.
Is she watching vids (video player or Tubes) or listening to online music/shows all day? Is her Facebook/ G+/ Gmail set to auto-sync? She must be running something that you are not to get the off balanced battery power like you say.
had a similar problem on project v, turns out that sync was getting stuck on my picasa and wouldn't go any further, unchecked for it to sync and problem solved...
Question regarding cell standby and battery life since a recent upgrade (eh03_sc3_0.5_full with the KGB 1202 kernel). I did the upgrade on 12/6 coming from UKB, pbj50 kernel and ed05 radio.
All is working well, including better reception, though I have noticed substantial battery drain recently despite all other settings being the same (wifi off, brightness low, debloated and frozen apps with TBU Pro, etc, etc.). Ive lost probably 40% of my battery capacity and am near dead by 5pm with minimal call use. I wiped battery stats, flashed with a full battery, *228 after modem update, gave it two weeks, and so forth, just as I had with every other upgrade.
I see in battery use that cell standby is 34%, followed by display at 20%, calls 6%, 5 hours after boot. Is this excessive for the cell standby ? Would another radio work better ?
IMHO, eb01 was the best radio for my use, followed by ed05 and ec09. Possible that the current radio isnt working properly ?
do you use an OC/UV app? like SetCPU? perhaps setting a profile for screen off down to like 400/100 would work for you? I found similar issue with my battery using KGB 12.12... i reverted back to KGB 11.27, and did notice less draw...
of course I failed on the first attempt and had to reflash the rom and all... but I'm a flashoholic anyway...
