I have ported gala s to htc legend so why not try this
There're a lot of graphic files and 9.png ones also. I can resize all the images but the 9.png make me confused. I downloaded the rom and may try it sometimes. I love this UI too.
U can not batch resize .9 pngs. U have to decompile, resize, manually edit and recompile them back one by one.
Sent from my HTC Legend
I found a jar file that writes 9.pngs info into rezised pictures
So if we batch rezise all the images then we should be able to write the info in the 9.png again
We can actually in theory batch resize
I don't say it's impossible but how do you know which pixels are resizable after you resize the whole png?
Care to share the link to that tool.
Sent from my HTC Legend
I like the colour icons in the notification bar, and the nice clear font, but a lot of the settings screens look way to much like iOS for me...
I'd love to see this miui stuff ported to the legend ;-)
Maybe we could split the work between a few people to recompile the .9 pngs and so on ?
Would love to see this, any progress ?
Indeed, it does look pretty sweet.
please anyone try to port to legend....if that it will be sweet
i think no one is caring about this thread.
I found this thread on XDA, it is an how to

Please check the link in the first post 'cause the how to is "legacy" if used on latest ROM.

Hi,
For all of you who doesn't like the gray color or are tired of the same old touch look, I made a new dialer skin. If you have PDVIET 4.0.0.0.6 or you have installed touch style dial pad, all you have to do is to copy these files to your windows and soft reset. I don't have time to make a proper cab file, but feel free to make a cab file out of these and share it with us
oh by the way the dialer skin is only for portrait mode, later on I will make a landscape too.
I also installed the transparent home plug in icons, I uploaded them before, but I'm gonna upload them along my other files.all you have to do is copy all the .png files to your windows folder and soft reset.
I hope you like it
Nice. I've build cabs...
Hello,
is it possible to customize our own landscape and portrait background picture ?
regards,
(if so please specify which folder in the /windows)

haha well i though this skin is so brilliant that nobody wants to go back to the original one lol..
all you have to do is overwrite the attached images to your windows folder
If you want your home pluging Icons back, sorry i don't have them , you have to hard reset.
It is nice , but I found it too bright
it is not easy to see in the sunlight, may be with another text colour will be nicer
thanks for help
its nice, but if im gonna change the background picture im gonna have to change the buttons too, maybe you should remodel the dialer in a way that the background of the numbers is transparent ?

If you look closely at the buttons that i posted , they are transparent (look at the numbers) the thing is that i haven't found a dialer dll that supports transparent images. If you found a dialer that you could simply change the background image, let me know

Photoshop Files
Okay, I promised that I'm gonna make a dialer skin so that everybody can change it just by changing one background image! well i tried and I didn't succeed. but for those of you who know Adobe Photoshop, I attached the psd file so you can use it to make your own dialer. all you have to do is to change the background layer and save your file as a png file. If you don't know Photoshop just don't bother, I really can't explain further. also you have to overwrite the button images with the images in the zip file. If you know Photoshop and you want to make a dialer for yourself, look at my psd file, trust me it will help feel free to share your creative dialer skins with us

Touch and touchlike dialers
Guys, hdialerere is my 2 cents about the touch (and derived) dialers
Positive: nice big buttons
Negative:
1) The photo is awfully small, even smaller than in the standard wm6 dialer
2) 2 buttons are missing: speed dial and history. You have to open these functions with options. not funny
3) There is still some space left on top that can be used.
I hope that someone can make a dialer with these buttons and with a bigger photo. Thx.

Thank you hma4! Excellent work all around. Question: I run linux and have access to GIMP which can do many of the things Photoshop can...is the layer method supported in GIMP as well? I'm wondering if there is a step by step tutorial on the net somewhere and willing to google for it...always willing to learn something new although I am in no way or shape an artist.

GIMP opens psd files and also supports layers. for tutorial for GIMP you can visit here: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/
here is what you can do, try to open the .psd file that I uploaded couple of posts above, then if you could see my file in different layers then you can work your way from there. you have to make 3 .png files, namely:
Progress_BkgdP.png
Dialer_BkgdP.png
indialer_ps.png
all you have to do is look at those layers, one of them is the background image, try to change that to what ever you like, another layer is the button masks so you have to overlap that on your background, and finally save the file in .png format with the names that I mentioned.
I really can't write a thorough tutorial for this, I think if you spend a little time you can figure it out all by yourself.
Good luck don't forget to share your creative work with us

The process of automation is in progress...
As for the first step i made and an app which can resize images to desired resolution (X x Y) or the percentage of the existing image.
Second step is to edit the manifest.xml which i dont have any idea how to automatically change the x and y values.
If you can help me out in this i will surely build the tool to automate whole process...

I was wondering if anyone can help me out and make this Beautiful widgets skin for me or at the very least help me do it. They have changed the way they theme the SC now and the pngs have borders around them similar to a PNG.9 which I could edit, but these are just pngs, so I'm not sure what to do with it. I tried, but it didn't show up. Thanks in advance. Below is the thread the theme is located:

I wasn't trying to bother you bro. You already were busy, but I thank you. Do you have to have the default or can you use a skin? because the default skin is not on the sd card, it's in the apk itself and hard to find.

That's right, but The default widget is in one of the drawables and I can't tell which. I can post the folders in a zip and also what I got so far.

Alright, thanks. I already did all the pngs in the zip above called, SparkICSClockSkin.zip, but I don't know how to compile it. I already tried it regular, and I already put borders around it like a png.9 but can't get it to show up for nothing.
I also think I just found a Beautiful widgets dev kit. Check attachments.

I got it working, I just have to edit it to look a little better now, but you don't extract the skins. their just in a folder on the sd card in Beautiful widgets/skins/scskins, but They are compiled like png 9's but you don't have to run them through eclipse like you would for framework. I got it working by using draw9patch and then changinging it from a png9 to a png. then I rebooted and it showed up. just needs a touch up.

ok i guess what your way is just replacing the image files in it but they are originally .9s
but your way should work too
We're your able to come up with anything ?
I did replace them with png 9's but I just changed the 9 to just png like in the folder, bc I don't see the ext 9.png. But anyway, here is what I got, but you can barely see the blue border I made, because of the stretching, and I don't like the numbers or how close the number background is..

super clock theme
my first watcha think?
That's good stuff. I actually couldn't get it the way I wanted it on beautiful widgets, bc I hate how close the number backgrounds are when compared to real sense clock, so I made one for Fancy widgets. Here's mine. Original is on the left and mine is on the right.
I have tried UOT Kitchen before, always was unlucky at having flashing errors.
My question is this... If I take a flashable theme, with permission from the creator, I should be able to use the scripts that they include for flashing? I am savvy with un-APKing zipping, signing and what not, is that all I would have to do to recreate a theme using my own images?
Thanks to everyone here!
Yes, the script you see other themes using can be changed out with your own, as well as the content. You can also just use the UOT Kitchen script. Credit given where credit is due, of course, but the script itself (IMHO) is not something you really need permission for.
Another tip, this from firsthand experience, when you're zipping everything up getting ready to flash, make sure you're zipping the contents of the theme folder (/META-INF/ & /system/) vs zipping the theme folder.
It sounds really stupid, but it took me forever to figure out why everything I did in UOT Kitchen perfectly but everything I did, using the same damn script, just froze. But ya gotta learn somewhere, right?
Remember when using the kitchen make sure u click amend scripting in the area where u load the apks... x2 uses 2. Something recovery.. if u don't click that there will be errors everytime

Thank you, I think I've tried UOT 5 times but never had success.
Kevin, I tried the amend scripting, it solo didn't work.
I would much rather use my own images then those offered in uot kitchen.
I'm going to try to put a theme together this weekend, I haven't modded anything since BF2 wake island air show

Ok, how much do you know about themeing? Because if you are wanting to edit just the images(.pngs) you will need some info first...
You can "simply" take the framework-res.apk and systemUI.apk and go to the HDPI folder(or wherever the images are) and "drag n drop" to your desktop and edit those... OR you can take a .png that you wanna use(say one from another theme) and just drag n drop in the HDPI folder. And then, simply make a flashable .zip and your good to go.
.9s !!!
These are a PAIN if you dont know what you are doing.
If you are going to try and get into themeing, download APKManager and decompile the framework-res.apk ... go to a .9 image(i think its .png.9 or something of the like). When you load the image(say in GIMP) you will see black squares on the OUTSIDE of the image(like near the edges of the ACTUAL picture edge)... DONT TOUCH THOSE!!!! leave them there and make edits how you choose to the rest of the image. Once you are finished, just recompile(DONT SIGN AND YES! THESE ARE SYSTEM APPS!). Put in a flashable .zip and your set.
NOW Please note:
When you are doing the drag and drop method, make sure you are REPLACING an image and not ADDING more images.. catch the drift?
this is quick how to, hope it helps and good luck. let me know if you need anything else.
All the themes rock! I have poor eye sight (far sight) so my main concern always is status bar and the battery icon. I love being able to see the percentage, but some themes use smaller battery percentage text.
.9 seem like the stretchable area I'm beautiful widget... I understand that

I was thinking of trying out theming. That is until I looked at the crap load of images just thrown into one directory. lol. It may not be as hard as it looks but I havent looked any further than that yet. I still want to try something out though. Is there an easy way of figuring out what image does what on the phone? Like if I want to change some things, I have to know the name of the image. Well, to me, it looks like they aren't named plain and simple. Plus when they are just thrown into one directory its kinda hard to distinguish what is what. It was so much easier theming for webOS. lol
Js if u really look at the framework u will see all the images in the drawable hdpi folder are really a lot of the presses..tabs. status bar icons... over scroll glow theming takes a lot of time to build straight from scratch... any .9 PNG can be edited when it is decompiled in apk manager or apk multi tool just don't edit the black patch as peppermint said or u will not compile...

@js I know what you are saying about the desire to do it but the system isn't really what I would say themer friendly! Admittedly I am not the sharpest tool in the shade when it comes to some things (like the Android OS), so I would imagine that plays a big role in my intimidation of the whole thing.
What got me was the De-Compiling and Recompiling of everything just to change something. Not to mention the signatures and etc... perhaps one day someone will write a piece of software (be it windows based or Android in a shell on a PC) that will make it all pretty simple on that part. Till then I will prob. just enjoy and appreciate the work of others.

Yeah, I agree about the decompiling and recompiling thing. When I had a webOS phone I created my own theme just by simply replacing the images and restarting the phone. With android, it seems you have to take the whole framework out, theme it and recompile the package file and flash it to the phone. Just seems a bit overwhelming.

It's not that bad if you are just changing the images... Just timely. I suggest gimp to do the work. Another tip, some of the images are indexed. In gimp change from indexed to rgb...back to indexed, then rgb. Reason being that you are now able to add any color and doing it twice clears the pixelation...
What gets hard is smali editing and .xml editing. Let me know if you need help there.

I spend some time to figure out how to handle sense 4.5 skins development. BatEarsJoe give us some advices to modify a skin but these are the very basic steps to build/change a skin. Also I tried to find tutorials on other HTC devices but all I found are obsolete...
What I'm asking for is that somebody (and here I'm asking ckpv5, ayyu3m, BatEarsJoe and other developers too) to give more precisely advices on handle skins.
For example I used 'APK-Multi-Tool' to decompile a ckpv5 rom's skin and I recompiled that again without modification. The result: I lost transparency of dock bar, folders and so on.
So is anyone willing to give some advice about how to handle skins? I mean it is not necessary a step-by-step tutorial (this could take maybe much time), but at least some informations, advices, tricks or some ways to handle transparency, colors, link between m10 files and regular png files. There are more important advices that is about how to manipulate png files, how to preserve/alter alpha channel, compression to use, software to use to handle properly png and m10 files.
I respect guys (mentioned above) who wants to give us more skins but I believe that the development is too slow, so I think sharing information in this area is welcome.
Thanks in advance!
VTS is the way to go (decompiles M10 files fine and does pretty much evreything else for you) alot more of the stuff cant be edited through .pngs instead in Colors.xml and other xmls. The images in mention can be found in m10 files (make sure there the same resolution though - thanks to ayyu3m for that.)
if you wanna use VTS then follow this tutorial http://www.virtuous-ten-studio.com/index.php/other-stuff/94-how-to-create-your-own-sense-skin
It's good to see a more active theme-ing community
Its good to see members who are eager to try their hand at theming. I had started a skin thread in the forum but could not continue cos of png issues during then. But now those issues are gone. But so is my free time since I joined work and its been a busy month.
But hopefully I would surprise you all by releasing my skin and also a tutorial.
As a quick answer...I use VTS and photoshop cs5 only. Will include tips and tricks.
