Next time use rom manager to flash clockwork mod recovery. In there you can make a nandroid backup before you do something like this. It puts an update.zip in your sdcard root that you can then get to by reinstalling packages in regular recovery.
But for now, if you can get to recovery, you can get to download mode.
First get the stuff you need from the bible sticky in the dev section.
Usb drivers for samsung devices
Odin and the stock jfd rom.
Theres a good visual guide to odin thats useful in there.
Set up odin first
Then the way I get to download is pull the battery, put back in. hold only the up and down volume keys (do not touch power) and plug in the usb while still holding volumes. After a few seconds you should see the download mode screen, and odin should show it connected to a port.

This is partially right...
what you want to do is the following (i would set up links but I'm at work so i'll be quick, just go to the Vibrant Directory and look for the correct links)
This happened to me also so i feel you pain. Hopefully, you'll have a Vibrant that isn't hardware locked because if you do it will make things a little harder.
anyway, this was my solution with my old harware locked phone (i had it switched to make my life easierr =] )
1.you'll want to use the NEWEST version of Odin which is V3 or something to that extent.
2. download Eugene373's Froyo that does not brick. Follow the steps in the thread and install the ROM correctly. Once, you've installed make sure to turn on USB Debugging [this is crucial for HW locked phones because it leaves ADB as your only option for getting into download mode (i hope you know how to use ADB)]
3. once you have froyo set up and debugging mode download the Stock Odin ROM and set up Odin.
4. If you have a HW Locked device the easiet way on to DL mode is through ADB. if you have ADB just go to CMD and enter "adb reboot download" the other option is a little trickier and it's not perfect but it's worked for me.
1.take out you battery.
2.connect usb cable.
3.hold down volume +, volume -, and power.
4.insert battery PS. if you have ny trouble with that try waiting till the Vibrant screen comes up and then release power button.
5. once in DL mode load up the stock ROM through ODIN and you are done. no more Black Screen of Death.
Hope it helps, if it doesn't message me and I can try and be a little more detailed. It helped me when I soft bricked my Vibrant.
Hey guys,
I installed one of Eugene's kernels for froyo (I believe a13) and then I installed MacNut R12. My phone froze on the Vibrant screen and I had to hold down power button until my vibrant turned off. Now it keeps rebooting and rebooting. It shows the Vibrant screen logo, then the Galaxy S i9000 screen logo and turns off and keeps repeating the process. I've tried to get into recovery mode and I've had no luck. I've also done battery pull.
I also tried odin, but I don't see how Odin can restore it since I can't even get into recovery mode (download mode).
Would really appreciate some feedback. Thanks.
I have the same problem please someone help!
Try the link in my signature! It will help you use ODIN to restore to stock FW.
And that should solve the problem.

Recovery Mode DOES NOT EQUAL Download Mode!
ODIN will work, follow the link in the signature of post #3 here.

Thanks used Odin to get into download mode! All restored!!
I was trying to upgrade my Samsung Vibrant T959 from version 2.1-Upgrade1 to the [ROM] Eugene's Ginger Clone 2.2 Final *12/13/2010 available in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9841497#post9841497, however this has taken me to a major problem.
i have done all the steps available in the following post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
and when i did download the ROM i copied it to the mobile SDCard and rebooted, at the begging things went alright then it asked me to reboot from Update.zip when i clicked ok my mobile rebooted and took me to Black screen where i can see only Vibrant and Samsung logo and its stuck since over an hour
I have removed the battery and tried to go to recovery mode, however it gives me the standard recovery that will take me to the same black screen.
I tried accessing the mobile from USB, the pc detects it however i cant access the drives.
I hope i didnt destroy my mobile
Please help.
flashback using odin, make sure to hold down the volume buttons while powering on your phone, hope this helped.
When you are in recovery did you click reinstall packages?
btw is your phone rooted?
Thanks guys for your help.
Yes my mobile is rooted, as far as i know...
I'm able to access the recovery mode by pressing at both voluem bottoms and the power bottom.
I have tried clearing the cash and deleting user data, then reinstalling package after reboot...
Yet i'm getting Black screen with Vibrant and Samsung logo only...
i'm trying to download ODIN however i cannot access the SDCARD of the phone.. how to recover...
Please help.
Thanks
You're going to have to get your phone into download mode and Odin out. Search the stickies and read the bible on this. Once you're back to stock make sure you're rooted and have clockwork recovery installed then try again. PM if you need more help.

Sorry guys i'm little noob in this, how do i know that i'm in download Mode ?
Is the Download mode is Andriod system recovery ?
It's not in the recovery. Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028&highlight=download+mode it's a great guide.
Just want to thank you guys for your advises, i managed to restore my Mobile via Odin.
That was really easy...
First time poster, long time lurker.
After spending over 2 weeks reading thread after thread I'm more confused then when I first started !
Using CM7nightly#105, CWM installed as recovery (not sure if as a kernel as well or not ) I decided to use the fantastic SiyahKernal.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263838
I Set the govner to ### and then within CM7 settings I set the CPU OC upto 1600MHz, UC downto 100MHz
Once I turned the phone off and back on again, I am no longer able to get into recovery mode. Turning on normal I get the "Samsung GalaxyS2" logo with the Warning Triangle showing that I have broken warenty, but it freezes and same goes for having the phone off and plugging it into a power source (USB or AC) it just freezes and nothing happens.
BUT I am able to get into download mode, so I'm taking that as a good sign that my phone isn't 100% bricked.
Odin isn't reconizing it, and nether is Windows7 AT ALL ! (most likly an unrelated issue)
I'm so stuck on idea's rite now, also afraid to send it in for repairs because obviously I have broken the warenty and don't know were that would leed, another problem being that it's also on a plan so I would rather not have to go and buy a new one unless I don't tell them about the finer details. The battery is dead because I thought it would charge in download mode, it didn't.. but it does let me enter download mode when connect to a USB or AC it just comes up with the mesage "Battery Empty can't download" or something similar.
If I have missed a thread with someone else having the same issue please redirect me there, if anyone has ANY hints at all or anything I could to get my phone back into working order I would greatly welcomed and I'm sure there might be a way I could repay you for the effort
Thanks in advanced ! Need anymore questions please ask.
I'm not a 'noob' I have an understanding of the basics and how most of it works regarding flashing like that the SGS2 doesn't need a .PIT file because it's already in EXT4 format so I'm pretty sure it isn't a problem regarding that, I'm thinking it's the bootloader, even the kernel I've used. But I was able to use Heimdall to flash a stock kernel ( yes it does work for the SGS2 ) but nothing had changed.
Sorry for the imporopper spelling.
Charge phone with power off.
Ensure samsung kies is not running whilst using odin. Also check your pc task manager and kill anything to do with Kies.
Ensure the latest drivers are installed, try different usb ports, another pc with drivers installed
If you can manage to get the phone recognised by adb (and you know how to use it) you can flash kernel (including the cwm recovery). I saw a method posted by Hellcat somewhere. It might get your recovery going.

You said your not a noob, but are you vol up + home + power to enter recovery?

Yeah I'm only able to get into download-mode, recovery just does not happen at all.
I'm going to try a different machine now after installing the drivers, there is a VM tut on here I'm going to follow that uses VirtualBox, Heimdall on Ubuntu says it detects my phone so I'm going to try that way.
Charging the phone with the powerd off just gives me the empty battery picture with the loading circle in the middle but of course it just freezes and doesn't do anything.
Now trying the ADB/Odin on a clean machine with the latest drivers.
1) Get the right CF Kernel from the Chainfire kernel thread in the Android Original Development Thread. Extract the zip to get a TAR and extract the TAR to get a z-image file. Also download the corresponding original stock kernel from the Intratech thread in the same section.
2) Flash the TAR in PDA using Odin. Do not click repartition. This lets you boot with with functional Root and CWM.
3) If you want to get rid of the yellow triangle, then load the z-image file into /sdcard. Reboot into download mode and use Odin to flash the stock kernel (again in the PDA without repartition). After that, go to the CWM app, choose flash kernel and locate the zimage and proceed.
FYI: SiyahKernels good, but with CM7 if you are updating between nightlys, reflash the old nightly first to get rid of siyahkernel, update the nightly and then reflash Siyah Kernel again. Long way but theres no workabout.
Also kill kies processes while using Odin
hi
Hey Frequency,
were you able to resolve this?
I faced the same issue. But my problem was the battery got drained(i think)
I tried to install CM 7 on my Samsung vibrant, but it bootlooped and is now stuck on "samsung vibrant" screen. If I plug it in after pulling the battery to turn it off it never shows the battery screen, just a loading symbol. Can give more info, just not now.
Thanks
-Adam
Boot back into recovery and reflash CM7 again. This is normal for it to bootloop on install b/c of the CWR mismatch.
Froyo Bootloaders-> Volu +/- and Power, See Vibrant, release power
Gingerbread Bootloaders -> Volu- and Power
vol- and pwr got me to download mode, but I can't get Odin to work right. How do I get to recovery?
EDIT: I think my computer and phone are not communicating, because neither Odin, Heimdall or OCUB are even registering its connection, although my computer tries to install drivers every time I plug it in.
Sounds rudimentary and I am sorry for saying it but this has worked for many a user.
Try a different USB port or cable. Seen it happen quite a few times where they switch ports and everything works just fine.
If you can get into download mode then you should be able to get Odin working eventually.
Okay.
After some messing with Odin, my phone is still not working. OneClickUnBrick is failing, thinks that I don't have Heimdall installed. Do you have a tar that you know is good?
Go to the Dev section and download the AIO Toolbox. It has Odin 1.8, all the drivers, the pit/tar files to get you back to 2.1 then to CM again. Links in toolbox are live again. Don't forget to download the .net files to.
Once you're back on stock and everything is running good again you may want to follow this guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307637
...Although it says it's for Miui, it's the same steps for CM7. It'll take you step-by-step through the installation process.
Sent from my SGH-T959 (Samsung Vibrant)
Thanks guys. The AIO Toolbox has not installed yet but it looks promising. I will edit when it finishes.
Also, has Cyanogen made a stable ICS Rom?
It worked, thanks guys! this would have taken way longer -- and maybe never worked -- if no one had stopped to help a noob.
