So we all know a new firmware OTA update is available. However it is being delivered in waves, and some of us may not receive it until the end of October.
I was under the impression that you could force this update, by going to settings then selecting "software update" which would search for any available update, and let you force it.
However, this seems to not be the case. When I press it, it just says no firmware.
So then what is the point of having that available in the settings. I'm almost certain you can use this feature with Sprint and At&t to force updates, why isn't it working for us?

Its there for people to use after october. Tmo has a lot of handsets in stock, and all running jfd. If a customer buys on say in november, after all the waves are done, then that'll work
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Once you've got the notification that an update is available, going to Settings---> "Software update" allows you to apply or postpone the pending update. It does not appear to actually "check" for an update.

For some reason today my phone has continually been wrong about how many voicemails I have waiting. I cleared all of them out and it continues to tell me I have "1 or more" waiting. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm running XDA Live .20 if that has anything to do with it. I in fact just upgraded to .20 after first seeing this problem and after reflashing it still comes up with the "1 or more" waiting, and even when I check, there are none.
EDIT:
Got it fixed from the Cingular forums... apparently Voicemail can get "stuck", I left a message for myself, checked it and then deleted it and the notification went away.
yea its 2010 and well it seems that when i text on my phone it doesnt show that its 2010, it reports the date as 1/1/16 on all my recieved texts, it doesnt do this on my sent ones, this means that its very hard to follow up on any texts i have recieved, any suggestions?
I'm getting the same thing here. my texts out to others show up with the correct date, my phone shows the correct date itself, but all incoming texts are 1/1/16, I assume tomorrow they'll be 1/2/16. Texts from the future! lame
this is with any NFSFAN Rom that I've tried, and on Telus (to see if there's a pattern somewhere
I'm getting the same problem and im on the stock sprint ROM still need to change it. Even under classic mode it will just show 1/1/16 instead of the times.
I noticed this as well, was using the stock US Cellular ROM and tried 3 custom ROMs. Noticed it wasn't even notifying me that I received a text, no sound/icon change/etc, it was like it was already read, but at the bottom of the list of texts, not the top. VERY frustrating...
don't ban me for this

How strange, I'm on AT&T and using the latest Sense 2.1 Energy ROM and haven't seen this at all.
acording to the link i posted, it's not rom, device, or carrier specific, more of a hit and miss thing on who gets it i guess. i downloaded the cab in the link, but not sure if it was just for the first, or the whole year.
The problem was not just for the first, it is still happening. Haven't installed the cab patch yet, as I am waiting for a fix, and not a patch. If they don't have it fixed by the end of the week I will though...
yup today is the 4th and my incoming texts read 1/4/16, therefore not showing up right in the list (middle or bottom of all other texts). As all the others, it started on the first day of the new year.
Im gonna try the cab, hopefully it works for now until an official fix is released. Anyways, I'll post back and let you guys know. Couple hours, gotta do some errands.
it's working fine on stock sprint rom. it shows time stamp and doesn't show date till following day, so i didn't see it till the second. cab works good for me.
CAB worked for me. Sprint phone, flashed to cricket
So on occasion I will receive a text message (I think it's MMS but I'm not totally sure) and I will get the notification and an option to download the message shows up. I press the download button and it tries to download for a few minutes and I get a notification "Message not downloaded" and the download button becomes available again. I honestly don't have the slightest clue what is going on. It has happened with messages from multiple people so I doubt it's a problem on the senders side. I have screenshots attached of what it looks like. Judging by the size, I don't think it's just too big to download. Also, I just noticed that the date that the text was revived seems to be from the future. I didn't pay attention to it before so I don't remember if this has been the case every time it has happened.Does anyone know why this is happening and if there is a way to be able to read it? Thanks!

9/10 times this is a network issue, but this (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mattprecious.smsfix&hl=en) app may help you. Are you using a carrier unlocked device with someone else's service by any chance (i.e. an ATT HTC One on T-Mobile or something like that)?

Nope, It's an ATT HTC One on ATT, I'll try out that app when I get the chance and see if it helps.
Anyone able to get enhanced messaging to work yet? If you are using Messages (Google Messenger) it is listed under advanced but it never completes.
It worked great on my Note 4. I like the ability to text over wifi.

Yes, it's working for me on my Sprint Galaxy S8 +. I did have trouble were it wouldn't work right away, had to wait like 24-48 hours after I activated the phone on my line for the system to provision it or whatever. Just keep trying and eventually it should complete and go through.
I use Android Messaging because the Samsung app supposed to have RCS and play nice with Android messages but when Ive sent messages from the Samsung app it acts like I dont have RCS at all
Doesn't work
I have had my phone for a few weeks but it still doesn't work. Every time I try it, it tells me Excuse the wait... Messages will let you know when this step is complete but it never completes.
Strange I was able to enable it on my wifes S8+ but mine will not enable. Tried clearing cache and uninstall and reinstall. Anyone else had this issue?
I chatted with TEP and Sprint, they sent me a new sim card and that didn't resolve it. I factory reset the phone twice and that didn't resolve it. I called Sprint and Sprint said to call Samsung.
Here is the definitive answer from Samsung "It is being rolled out in batches and certain versions of the phone have not received that update."

I wonder if taking the phone to a best buy that has a Samsung experience store if they can add it.
It will go thru after Day or 2 I had issues but it resolved its self
Hey guys I just got my new Moto Razr foldable, and activated it with GoogleFi(e-sim), and when I click chat features on the Messages app it says "device not supported". I tried the old trick of changing the "flags" but when I click the flags setting it just takes me back to my Messages list, and not the flag settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Wait you got your phone? Where did you order from? How did you get the SIM unlocked in order to activate on Fi? I don't know about your particular RCS issue, have had it working on my PIxels without any flags needed for over a month now, but are all your apps updated? I wouldn't be surprised if it ships with an old version of Android messages since it comes with Android 9...
I preordered it from Verizon and it arrived yesterday.
A quick update, this phone is e-sim only so I was able to connect to GoogleFi during the setup process. I realized though that it would not let me make outbound calls, so I switched the service to Verizon(via the setup menu, no sims). Chat features briefly kicked on for about and hour and then went back to "Chat features not supported for this device". All apps are updated, so I think Verizon may be blocking it somehow.
This fixed it for me.
Turn on Airplane mode.
Open the Settings app.
Tap Apps & notifications. If you don't see all your apps, first tap See all apps or App info.
At the top right, tap More More and then Show system.
Tap Carrier Services.
Tap Force stop and then Ok.
Tap Storage and then Clear data.
Go back to the "App info" screen.
Tap Messages.
Tap Force stop and then Ok.
Tap Storage and then Clear data.
Turn off Airplane mode.
Still took a few hours to active but I have RCS on my Razr now.
