Dell Streak's Strange Issue - Streak 5 Android Development

Hi Everyone,
I started this thread because I really couldn't find the solution to the problem I am having with my Dell Streak. First of all I have the Dell Streak T-Mobile 3G version, it was working fine until yesterday, all of a sudden the screen wouldn't turn on. I did a Factory Reset and it worked fine after that. But I am unable to install anything in my Streak, If I download it from the Market I get message, "Download Unsuccessful" and If I download it off of internet using my browser I get the message, "Application Not Installed"
I have tried the solutions provided by people like Clearing Market Cache and stuff but honestly that doesn't work at all.
I don't know what could possibly affect only the Download and Install Manager in my Dell Streak. I am running Android 2.1 the leaked version on my Streak.
Any Help will be Greatly Appreciated.
I literally cannot install anything :'(
HELP!!!!!!

Use the version that was made for the streak. Problem solved.

But I cannot find the official O2 update file, and if I try to root it and install the new firmware, it says that the firmware is up to date and my streak restarts, it's very strange, no one seems to have this problem.

Sorry for the OT, but... I thought the Dell Streak would not work with US T-Mobile 3G, only 2G unless you are AT&T. Are you outside the US or is there really a version that works with US T-Mobile 3G now?
FYI: Did you change your GMail? Download unsuccessful happens if the 'GoogleID' is tied to a different GMail then the one you are using. I know this from hacking Chinese tablets and having to install a GoogleID. If that is the case, GTalk should not work either, but all other google apps are fine. Google for how to create a new key and change it. WARNING: It requires setting up the emulator and is a long process. The other option is just to reflash it, and if that doesn't work, reflash the stock rom.

Help!

Well I heard that android 2.2 was available with froydvillian ect, so i decided to update to that, i followed the steps of installing villainrom first which was successful.
I then went onto installing froydvillain 1.5 the same way but was unsuccessful on many times (just got stuck on the hero screen).
I then decided that I'd just stick with the orange firmware so used the update on the PC get android 1.5 on.
I then was going to update the 2.1 but could get the usb to work, and it wouldn't mount to the pc. I then downloaded the update through mobile web and it installed.
Now my problems are that i cant download from android market.. "Download unsuccessful", aswell as not bieng able to sign into facebook ect.. I am signed into google. I have factory rest the phone to no luck, and cannot reinstall the firmware from the pc as im getting the usb error.
Help please?
New error, my phone says its got 50% bettery, the update on the pc says its got less than 30%.
I believe it has nothing to do with the ROMs. Me, as well as 3 or 4 of my other friends have the same problems today with the Market, some of them use the stock and others, including me, custom ROMs. I guess Google's doing some maintenance or something... I don't know why Facebook doesn't work, though.
its google issue
i have the same problem, but its good to know that its a google problem...i was a little panik rightnow cos i just flashed a new rom =)

[Q] Web browsing issue: The page contains too many server redirects.

This is soooo annoying, does anyone here get this error on some websites while browsing using the default shipped Android 2.2 browser?
Andriod browser dialog box mesg:
"Data connectivity problem
The page contains too many server redirects."
Example: http://www.yelp.com just does not work for me.
I am not sure if this is only happening to build 315 Dell Streaks. I did read somewhere else that going to build 318 fixes it, but I'd like to know how to fix this on 315 without going to 318.
Thanks in advance!

I get the same thing on stock 2.2 I have yet to figure out what it means or how to fix it.
You don't even have to root your phone to install baseband 318. As long as you are on baseband 305, 309, or 315 you won't even have to connect it to your computer.
Download (here is a Dell page with the link) the 318 file with your phone or with your computer and copy to the root of your SD Card. Browse to it with a file browser (you can use Quick Office) and tap on it.
If it doesn't do anything (if it does you'll be taken through the upgrade process) then rename the file to update.pkg.
Turn your phone off. Press the power button to turn your phone on and as soon as the LEDs light up hold BOTH volume buttons down. The phone will go into recovery mode. Use the volume controls to highlight the choice to install update.pkg and then press the camera button to select it.
The 318 update will be installed and your phone will reboot.
I believe that the second method will wipe your settings, so you'll have to set up your accounts and re-install your apps. When I did this I did a factory reset first so that I was doing the equivalent of a fresh install.
That's it - no drivers to install, no cables to connect (unless you copy the file to your phone with the cable), and you are technically running a stock phone.
This will not work if you have installed a custom recovery, you need a stock recovery on your phone to use an update.pkg. So this is perfect for those who don't want to mod their phone. You won't be able to tell the difference except that the redirect bug is gone.

DELL released a fix for this problem months ago on http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824/t/19353639.aspx
Download this file http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_318_12821_00.pkg from the Streak's web browser, and then follow the instructions to apply the update.
I tried both ways listed here, unable to update.

Can you be more specific as to what happen when you try to upgrade? I just did the upgrade last night and did encounter a few problem myself but I got it done at the end so maybe I can be of help if you can be a little more specific about the problem.
Btw I'm on stock 318 update from above link and server re direct problem is gone
Worked like a charm, Thank you. All I did was download the file from my phone, then when it finished downloading I clicked on it from the notification bar and a menu poped up asking me to update and so I did. Now I no longer have that error poping up.

[Q] Baseband understanding

My basic understanding is that the baseband is like the firmware that makes the radio in your phone work (calls, mobile internet, wifi etc) right? But that is where my knowledge ends.
Just recently the mobile internet on my streak stopped working. The indicator for mobile internet still shows in the notification bar but any attempts to reach a web site or other connection just times out and fails. Wifi still works perfectly. It's not an issue with the carrier as I have never had to set anything up it has just worked out of the box each time I have updated anything. In any case for info my network is 3uk.
Now I have dropped this phone a few times, admittedly this could be what has caused the damage. On the other hand something might have become corrupted.
So assuming something might have got corrupted I'm thinking it could be the baseband but as I don't know much about them I'm not sure.
I have used QDL tool many times and had various versions of streakdroid on my streak. I have just about mastered the recover/restore/install procedure however in my ignorance you might say I have not learned much about basebands. I always try to learn the things I need as I go along and till now have not had to worry.
Here's the dumb questions I need answers to:
Do basebands come with each build of android? I mean rom downloads either official or streakdroid. I got the impression they did but not sure. I normally use streakdroid since v1.5.1
If they don't come with the roms where can I download an up to date baseband to see if it will fix my problem?
So far I have used QDL tool using the guide on streakdroid. Following that I install streakmod then use that to install streakdroid 1.9.0
Should I try installing any other rom?
Any other suggestions or tips of how I could get my mobile internet working?
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Have you looked at your APN settings?
Select Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names
(might not be the exact name of the menus) but i know its under Wireless & Networks. Might need to reset the APN to default or search and reselect it.
Hi Thanks for the reply.
Yes I have tried to do the search to reselect it but it just searches for a long time as if its hung. Reset to default didn't change anything. (3 three.co.uk stayed putt)
Also I have completely reset my phone to factory default and back to latest streakdroid a few times. In the past I've not had to touch APN it just works after installing whatever rom.
I think I've already tried the most obvious things.
Would flashing the latest baseband help? Assuming it doesn't already come with the latest streakdroid. If it does then its looking like I am screwed unless there is anything else I could look at??
HELP!
Have you tried your USIM in another phone. 3 may have blocked your Internet access as you are using a non-3 phone.
What does your about screen say for your baseband version and stuff?
Baseband version
GAUSB1A130500-EU
Regarding "non-3 phone" I hope thats not the case. I've never had an actual "3 phone" I always use unlocked phone's. Prior to this one an omnia and prior to that a k850i neither of which are 3 phones. I will try the sim in another phone see what happens now. Let you know.
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO UPDATE TO THE BELOW BASEBAND FOR 1.5.1+
Baseband File Download:
Primary Download Site: http://downloads.streakdroid.com/djsteve/amss.mbn
Mirror 1: http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/amss.mbn
I guess u missed this part when flashing 1.9. The recommended baseband for 1.9 is 318.
Delltech you are right I did overlook that. However going back to your last point that 3 may have blocked my internet access. I think your right!! I just tried my sim in another phone and that can't connect to the internet.
Anything I can do if they have blocked my internet??
Call them and speak to tech support, they've got a bunch of cool techies who'll sort it out right away.
Will do.... Thanks!

[Q] I am a newbie here need help streak 5

I bought my streak 5 from Dell in USA, unlock.
Base = GAUSB1A134700
Unfornately its don't have the wifi, each time I turn on wifi, its have an error, I read about it in the forum, something to do with a missing kernal.
I download the
351 15609 00 110317 Mar 17, 2011 update.pkg
And installed it, by holding down Volume, and its power up.
I choosed the #2 and update.pkg from the SD.
Its open the file, and verifying, then updating, I can see the green bar, but half way, its restart and the Dell logo screen appear and its stay there for more than 10 mins, is this how its suppose to install?
I can't even log back on my regular andriod 2.2 without wifi, its keep giving me a choice to reset from a manufactor or update and such.
So i did the manufactor reset, and its does the same problem, struck at the logo.
I read about StreakMod and Clock Recovery, its all in zip file, and I don't even know how to install, I can't find any step how to use or install the Streak Mod.
I would like to get the latest andriod with a working unlock sim card and wifi, what should I do, I am new here. thanks
Also what is FastBoot ?
bah i read this and that, I don't know what is img, to use img, i need streakrod or clockrecovery, and to use those i need fastboots arghh any simple instruction here, thanks.
Ok, I figured out how to Fastboots
So its "hold down camera" while power on, now i connected to my PC, I got struck here, i can't find the driver inside my pc, I am using window 7 64 bits, where can I find the driver. thanks.
J
Have you installed these drivers (in windows)?
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Handheld/R288920.exe
I had the same problem it called dell and the sent me a brand new one. If your with in 30 days they will send you an new one and shipping. For you to send the broke one back no questions asked.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Yeah I installed the driver.
learned so much stuff in one day the base gausb1a147000 is the worest one, all the one who bought that batch have the wifi problem, but its unlock, when send back to the company, they replaced with the AT T one, the base 340. I have same problem like many other of 470 owners, no success
I installed 345, won't load or boots
I installed 351, its load, but lagged, music can't play, can't read sd card
I am surprisely the hong kong rom 354 worked for the 00. Its work nice, but I don't like the keyboard with some of those chinese character
you should try
Well, they should replace an Unlocked with Unlocked one!
(they did replace mine here in India! - no idea about other countries)
Try talking to them again.
If its some problem that is indeed there, then priority #1 should be getting that replaced/corrected.
@354 Hongkong update.
If, you just dont like the chinese chars on default keyboard,
there are plenty options to have other keyboards!
Android KB
Slide it KB
Smart KB
But, try the replacement first!
care,
Sony.
I had same issue when I replaced my Dell Streak
1st one I got Official Unlock ROM and it gets faultly , I sent it back to Dell and They sent me new one with 340 ROM which doesn't come with ( Personal Wi-Fi ) and no option for switching between ( GSM & HSDPA ).
Note: 90% of what you need is available in Dell Streak WiKi
What I've done is:
1- Download Stock ROM 318 , save it into Streak's SD ( instructions available in WiKi)
2- Installed 318 on it by using Multi-recovery app
3- Skip Google sign-in ... bla bla bla , connect to the Wi-Fi then go to ( Settings --> About --> System Update ), then it should prompt you that there is an update to 351
If the Wi-Fi didn't work , send it back to Dell to for replacement
Hope my post is useful

Market Stuck @ "Downloading..."

Hi All,
I have a Tablet S running honeycomb 3.2.1 update, stock rom. I've associated my google account and while some apps will install/update via google play - many will not. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to root/whatever like I normally would with a device I own myself (this is a work unit).
I've tried clearing market/download data/cache many times, reboot many times. Even gave up for a week and came back to it - same deal.
Can anyone shed some light on why this thing is being so difficult??!!?
FYI ICS update not avail for me yet.
Did you login to google talk? if not try logging and retry
I had the same issue. Had to wait for the market to to updated for it to start working again.
Market is currently on latest version, no good. I can uninstall updates back to "android market" but that doesn't work either.
Google talk is all signed in and fine - that's not the problem as I can download *some* apps. If signin weren't working nothing would d/l.
M.
So you are not able to root this tablet because your boss have given you a device to work with or was it a gift and now you can keep the tab ?.
If som i should not wait any longer to root this tab, and install the inverted app from condi's AiO tool, this will reïnstall the play app, and probaly also the bug,
Even if its a work device, you could simply follow all the steps with rescue-backdoor etc in HC and then automaticly download ICS (UK) version,
Once you downloaded the ICS update you could simply get the unrooted version again by installing without following the steps for prerooting the signed zip.
on a later point, everyone will get ICS on their tabs, so no-one will notice right,?
Maby this info doesn't helped you out att all, but i think this is quite handy
Succes!,
Its been supplied to us by sony to promote stuff in store. Its still the property of sony ... So I'm not going to mess with rooting
Still haven't found a solution to the market, but I don't need it as much now. Was trying to get some wmv files working in something other than stock video player and market was being a pain not downloading things. Ended up getting mxplayer installed and just gave up on market and transcoded all the movie files. Not the best solution, but it works.

Allright that says enough xD but then like Cat McGowan said, if you work at such a company why wouldn't you send it back by your self?. from what i understand you are working at a company thats regonized as a sony dealer am i right?, because your problem is a system thing, nothing that you can do about it, ( On a normal way )
It's surely just a software thing though, seems pointless sending it back for that. I did get my other video issue sorted so I don't really *need* market any more, and it got announced today that we should get ICS tomorrow (short notice, huh?!).
M.
Yép that will probaly fix your problem and after you installed ICS try to do a factory reset this is recommend so your old settings are clean again. Cache etc.
Good luck.!
Hi guys.
I had similar problem after updating from gingerbread to ice. After trying all tweaks nothing worked. Flashed again and nothing happened
However, disabling download from unknown source solved the problem.
My advice would be that when flashing a new rom without using external ed card, remove it before flashing. After flashing, disable download from unknown source. Try going to google play and update or download something. Once it worked, restart your phone and you can enable download from unknown source back.
I tried this twice and saw that it worked perfectly.
