[Q] Question regarding Voodoo and changing boot animations - Fascinate Android Development

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I've searched all over and didn't find anything that answered my particular question...
So anyways I've installed the new Voodoo lagfix (v0.2) and it mentions being able to swap in new boot animations and it sounds simple enough but when I look in my /system/media or data/local directories I don't see an existing bootanimation.zip file to replace.
In /system/media all I have in there is an audio folder, a bunch of .qmg files, and a video folder containing the shutdown .pngs.
In data/local there is only a tmp folder with 2 .lck files.
I've tried copying a bootanimation.zip into both of those and rebooting but still got the stock samsung/verizion bootup animation. Any idea what I'm doing wrong or what else I need to do to get it to use the new boot animation?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Did you install just the Voodoo lagfix or the Lagfix/bootanimation/OC kernel?

I didn't know you could change it yourself without any coding experience o.o
However I do not know how to change it
But in the event someone posts how, what are some cool boot animations?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

To change the boot animation you need to make sure your kernel supports it. In the Voodoo thread there are 3 kernels.... one with just the Voodoo fix. One with the Voodoo, boot animation, and one with the lagfix, boot animation, and OC. Make sure you are using one with the boot animation change, and put a bootanimation.zip in to /data/local/ or /system/media/

You are my hero, but where are these folders? And were can I find a boot animation?

Sorry guess I should have specified...
(btw sorry if I'm about to butcher any lingo.. I'm still new to the whole scene here)
I rooted, followed the instructions on using Odin to flash ClockworkMod then applied the lagfix from the Voodoo thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804317) while in ClockworkMod Recovery which appeared to work as my quadrant scores went from ~900 to ~1700.

Oh gotcha. I guess I know what I did wrong then. I believe I only used the voodoo_kernel_0.2.zip which I guess is just the one with the lag fix.
How would I go about changing to one of the other 2 from where I'm currently at with just the lag fix?
Also I'm assuming the one I'd want to use this time is the " 1200_voodoo_bootanimation_0.2.zip" correct? I'm guessing that's the one with all 3 (lag fix, boot animation and OC)?

The folders are on the device. You can use adb commands to push the bootanimation.zip file to them. "adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local"
Search online to find boot animations. Pretty easy to find.

You will need to reflash using either the 1000_voodoo_bootanimation_0.2.zip or the 1200 one to use the boot animations.

The 1200 is the one with all 3 yes. And use the same method you did before with just the Voodoo lagfix to reflash with the new kernel. Very easy and should only take a couple mins.

Just flash it like you did the first time through clockwork. Then move the boot animation zip over.

Ok cool, so I should be able to just toss the 1200_voodoo_bootanimation_0.2.zip to the /voodoo folder on my sdcard, boot into CWRecovery and reapply the zip?
Sounds easy enough. I'll give that a try, thanks guys!

Did you have to uninstall the 0.2 lagfix before flashing this new?
BTW...there's a post in the Fascinate Themes forum that has information on start and shutdown sounds as well as animations.

you don't have to uninstall the voodoo 0.2 to upgrade (sidegrade?) to the new kernels with the bootanimation or OC

Just so we're clear, all these boot anim. and boot changes can be made just using Root Explorer? Yes?

Roger that.. now my only issue is trying to find a new custom shutdown animation to replace the crappy verizon one with.. It was easy to find boot animations but there doesn't seem to be many shutdown ones out there.
Anyone know of any good sites/links where I could find some?

This contains a qmg file. If i rename the zip to bootanimation.zip it should work?
In case you were still waiting for a reply, no it should not work. A qmg file is a compressed video file using some proprietary format that gets played. Bootanimation.zips contain a series of images that are linked together to create an animation.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

whats happening is the zip you're flashing, isnt installing the qmg files to the system/media. so you'll have to push them manually with root explorer

Boot image

So I am very new to all this and just recently rooted my Vibrant with the ClockWork Rom and saw that I am able to upload new boot images instead of the Galaxy S logo.
I am not very artistic and was wondering if anyone would be able to throw one together for me using a hockey team logo or combination of logos. I will even reimburse!
Not sure if this is do able or if someone is willing to do this, but thought I would ask.
PM me with the team(s) you would like and I'll see what I can do.

Mine has a samsung logo but its custom and hokey anyway sounds like it is differant than your looking for.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. The download is flashable through clockwork recovery. But if you already extracted the bootanimation.zip from the package and placed it in the /system/media folder make sure you set permissions to rw-r--r-- otherwise I would just flash the original package

boot into recovery through you power button (assuming you have clockwork recovery installed and a rom that gives you that option)
install zip from sdcard> choose zip from sd card> [locate zip file and choose] then yes install> after install go back> reboot
also check this out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSBX7EBwaVA
I think the rom I am using isn't going to let me do this. I tried downloading the sons of skywalker ROM through ROM manager but after I click on it to download it takes me to a screen that doesn't come up with anything on it. I wait and nothing. Not sure where to find it to flash it when I boot through recovery. I tried downloading Axura and it doesn't save the file as a .zip on my computer. It extracts it and the only zip I can find is the update.zip. Do I go through recovery and install this file?
I don't know if it is the fact I am using a MacBook but just trying to alter some stuff on my phone with no luck.
I did the install in regards to the BootAnimations.zip and it didn't work, so thinking the rom wont let me.

The link appears to be broken, does anyone else have the .zip?
Edit: works, awesome thx
this is by far my favorite boot animation, thanks so much for this
i have two questions though, one a lot of times when booting up the animation can lag slightly, is there any tweaks i can do to improve the performance or is this generally how it goes for everyone?
my other question is more of a request actually, I would like the version that you had mentioned that did not have the spinning 3d letters, is that still available somewhere? i didn't see a link
I assume it's because it's loading stuff in the background.
Edit: I just installed it, and yeah, it is noticeable. You can clearly tell where the AT&T Logo is supposed to display because it gets real smooth.
But if you look at the original loader, its noticeable that its also laggy. It's just less because there isn't much to look at. It's like if the Windows 7 boot animation lagged, you can't really notice since there is almost no noticeable difference between frames.
OMG I LOEV YOU NOTACH!! you've answered my prayers! now to dl and try this out
edit: wow looks beautiful man good job!!! still a bit laggy initially i wonder if there are some tweaks i can do
edit2: second and third boots were much faster, but still a bit choppy

Wht's funny is that Moto didn't even bother to add the audio file to the system/media/audio/notification folder. It is still as 2.2.2.
This just goes to show how lazy they are when they can't even update this simple thing. It may be a very minor detail, but it's the small details that make the difference.
OP, if you use the boot animation from the GB ROM and you want the boot animation audio, move att_power_opt.ogg to system/media/audio/notifications.

Yeah, guess it's optional since you need root and a file manager like Root Explorer to move it? If Moto wanted to make it optional to the general public, there would be an "option" to use it or not.

I got it from the serendipidy 8 thread. shouldn't that work?
Well let's debug, have you tried reflashing the latest experimental build of the kernel, and REMOVING the bootanimation.zip? Is the AT&T logo still showing up if there's no custom bootanim?

- Deleted bootanimation.zip (now there is no file named bootanimation.zip as before)
- Reflashed 10202011 DD
- AT&T default boot animation is back
Now throw in a bootanimation.zip in /system/media/ and make sure you change the permissions to rw-r--r--, or chmod 644 if you're using adb. That's important.

Which check boxes on the 9 box quadrant should I use in ROM manager when setting permissions? All 9 are checked. Just getting no boot animation again on boot.

Set those permissions. Still no animation just black. 2000% improvement over ATT, but still wanting to figure out the animation issue, hehe
Maybe use a different bootanimation? look in themes/apps
There is a thread in this forum with Nexus Prime boot animation, the same one that is currently included with UnNamed rom. Also, look at the link in my signature for the android scribble bootanimation. These animations are 800 x 480 so they fit our screen.
