Anyone know how I can make my eris not even turn on as I cannot remove the custom recovery and I need to send it back? Ps without taking a hammer to it lol
Drop it in water and then plug it in...after you pull it out of the water and wipe off excess. Don't wanna fry yourself in the process

lol
Did that to the last on still worked afterwards lol.had to pay 89$ trying to avoid that.and it turns the lil water sensor stickers red. Was looking for a way to remove something via adb.
What I've tried :
1.removing recovery thru adb =remote failed
2.a magnet
3.official ruu =cannot communicate through usb
Take a 9v battery, twist a wire to each terminal and the other ends, touch the usb contacts. If that don’t work, try the battery contacts, or a higher volt battery. I'm no electrical engineer, but it shouldn't be too hard to short the thing out and leave no evidence.

I guess I took his question too literally.
My other idea was to fly to europe and plug it into their wall sockets without a converter adapter....
Or put it in the microwave for 5 second intervals.
But I figured either one of those ideas might have the slightest possibility of ending baddly

I don't think they even check the phones. I've sent two back that were rooted and had custom recovery's. The second one still had a froyo rom on it. Not telling you what to do just relaying my past experiences. I'm also about to warranty my wifes Eris. Just going to nand back to 2.1 like I did with my first phone.

I think on gonna blow my speaker... that should work for the warranty, right?

Just get some dirt in your trackball if you want a warranty claim.
A Verizon rep told me they have no way to troubleshoot trackball issues. I'm on my third eris now (actually had trackball issues) and they hardly asked any questions.
got the replacement lol ye ol hammer did the trick.i could not flash anything this is why i was asking.(to the wise ass)lol
So my power button has become an issue. It stays depressed and does not click like the send button along with a trackball issue. It scrolls to the left and acts funny with the charger plugged in. So long story short VZW ie sending me a Droid 2. Hooray

The thing I said to the tech I was speaking to was this was my secnd Eris is there any way I could get a comparable device to the Eris because I have had multiple issues with the phone. Granted I have to pay for the battery and the back case but to get a new phone. I was just polite and explained what was occurring.

You have to be firm with them. Tell them how replacements you've had and that since they can't send you one that works you want a different phone. If the rep won't do it, ask to speak to a supervisor.

I'm supprised VZW and Asurion (depending on who replaced the phone for you) actually has them in stock still
If it helps I went thru 4 phones already. Various issues so no lemon law to help me upgrade but I did try to call and speak to a supervisor, stated that I would sign a new 2 year agreement if they upgraded me and my wifes phone. We Had trackball/stuck buttons issues and screen issues in the past Side note, if you youtube the blackberry trackball fix tick youll see a nifty video of a piece of plain white paper on a desk or clipboard and sliding the phone back and forth and up and down. Helped me alot out with track ball issues. Also I complained about the phone being slow and unresponsive also helped the case. Lets face it a "stock" Eris without a task killer app can be very slow and unresponsive. I remmeber when I was a smartphone noob. Once I saw that I was not getting anywhere I wrote a e-mail and after several back and forth e-mails I told them that if they wish to do nothing for me then when my contract is up I am taking my 200 dollars a month business somewhere else hopefully the phone does not act up or become defective in an emergency because if it does the next correspondence will be thru my lawyer.
With that said it took about 2 hours for verizon to reply with a email stating that they will offer phones for me and my wife at the 2 year upgrade price (standard). Since the Devs came a very long way since the phone came out and my wife and I have no problems with phone naturally.
Well, I hate to say it but I am sure glad to be rid of the Eris. Great starter smartphone great developer platform but whoa man the Droid2 is just leaps and bounds above it.

Replacement Phone
After reading this post, I was inspired to change my underdeveloped HTC Eris for free. Long story short, after an hour on the phone with 2 representatives, I was given 3 options, to replace my current Eris with another Eris, LG Ally, or Moto Droid. I went with the Moto Droid.
I went through three total (1 original and 2 replacements). A week before christmas I started having problems with my eris not ringing and verizon wanted to replace it with another eris. I waited a couple days and sent an email explaining my issues and at the same time not expecting anything but another eris. Two days later I got a call saying that they were going to replace my eris with a D2. After hanging up I got an email stating that the phone and accessories would be shipped separately! Didn't even know they were going to send the accessories...long story short got the shipment..one box the phone and the other charger, back plate and verizon extended battery!! So yeah things worked out but I also had to send the D2 back a week later because of a blown speaker!! Overall I am pretty happy with the D2 and actually feel like I can finally stick out my two year contract without upgrading a year into it.

Man...I hope I have the same luck! Funny, that I just saw this post. Last week, I took mine in and they replaced it with a refurbed Eris. The original had a blown speaker. This one, about an hour ago, started giving me problems. The top half of the touch screen won't do anything. Everything shows up, but I can't push anything, including pulling the notification bar down.
Now I have to go back to Verizon tomorrow. It would be nice if they'd just throw a dog a bone, and replace it with something better.
I am currently on Eris #3.....first one was a blown speaker and the second one was the replacement....it refused to connect to the network at all. Just always wanted to roam around, so I got a third one. I like the Eris, just really want to get the incredible and will pay full price to own one of them.
Is there a file I can edit or remove to disable trackball functionality entirely?
The trackball has the bug where it perpetually scrolls to the left. Just curious what I can do to work around the problem.
Many thanks in advance

Ah yes, I remember this problem. Not a fun experience at all.
The only luck I had was sending in my Eris to Verizon and getting another one. I'm pretty sure you can't do that anymore though, and they'll send you a D1 instead, if they even do that anymore.
Cleaning the trackball might work, since it could be just a piece of dirt causing problems. If you're as unlucky as I was though, its a hardware flaw that can't be (easily) fixed.
Yeah, its a common issue. However that would be an interesting fix lol i know there is another version of the recovery you can use that does not require the trackball, use that to unroot if it dies completely so you can return to Verizon.

I have the same problem too, but i cant send to verizon because i am in canada for family and two days from now i will be in saudi arabia...so i cant really send it to verizon. I use my phone daily and it roams perfectly. I have 2.3 SENSE on my phone. Back when I had recieve teh bug, it was going on and on and on. After sometime, and also after some flashing new roms, the bug is not as "powerful" as it was before. Now it only does it when i charge it. I remember there was an app in the market that actually stopped the trackball but it only worked for a min. and then the app stops working. I hope this gives you a bit help!
Search under the Stickys here under Eris and it will point you to the link to download & flash the Recovery Rom - where use of trackball is optional, especially if do you boot into doing NAND backup/recovery or flash ROMs, etc.
Cleaning the trackball by pressing down hard & rubbing on a hard surface over a white printer/copier paper sometimes worked wonder (at least for a while - to me.) Stickys for earlier posts (plus look into YouTube for a demo) ....
I got my Eris via eBay and it's been out of warranty and the ultimate solution was to spend $2.50 (including shipping from USPS) to get a Blackberry (8300, etc.) trackball replacement & did a simple transplant or replacement - available in many colors (I got a black one, least expensive, to replace the transparent/clear one on the phone) - and less than 10 minutes of labor to get it changed, as good as brand new. Just need to use a jeweler's screwdriver (it's a torx/hex style micro screws x 4 plus 2 on the circuit board) to open the case with the cover removed, take out 4 screws & then pry carefully around the edge/rim to avoid scratching to pop it open enough, then taking out the 2 crews to get to the trackball. A slight push or nudge, it will pop out - note the direction of the contacts before putting your new one in - reverse the disassembly sequence. Power up once everything is tighten back together & you are good to go - watching that black/blue/red/orange colored trackball dance & light up.
It was a fun project for me & feeling of accomplishments, giving new life to the aging Eris coupled with one's choice of Froyo or GB Rom's.
Actually, I've had the problem for a while now. I've tested many rom's and it really depends on the rom. Funny isn't. I had come up infrequently in GSB. MacRom it didn't it a little but wasn't crazy. What i do to fix it is press down hard and that seems to fix it. I'm running Gin-Sense Tazz and haven't noticed it yet, but i've just flashed the rom.
I've heard of people fixing it by laying the phone down face first and rolling it around with pressure to reseat it. I'm not saying to, it might make the problem worse. But its a thought

I've replaced the trackball on a phone with this problem, still having occasional issues... The trackball replacement didn't fix it entirely. What to do next?
From what I understand of the trackball problem is that it is a grounding issue with the contacts and the charging/usb port. Mine is doing it also so when it breaks I will take it apart and find out for sure:}
I finally broke the annoying sucker and flashed a recovery that uses the call and end buttons instead of the trackball. I'm not having any issues.

did that recovery also disable the trackball within the ROM? Or just in recovery? can you post a link to it? Thanks!

No, the custom recovery is mutually exclusive of the ROM. Sorry, my tweaked version of Amon_RA's custom recovery can't touch the ROM that's installed...
Here's a link to the XDA post where for my tweaked version of the trackball-optional custom recovery for the Eris:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9124095&postcount=83
And here is the sister thread over on AndroidForums that has some installation options for you:
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/214240-amon_ra-1-6-2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html
Good luck and cheers!
After, I broke the trackball. All the trackball issues left and i needed a way to use the recovery. The recovery without trackball works great.
I also had a bad trackball, now using my wifes old eris since she upgrade to an inc2.
Hey everyone, I was out one night with a buddy of mine. At the time, he was using the AT&T Atrix. He got way too drunk, ended up throwing up from the second floor of a bar down onto the first. Fell down the steps leaving, and literally passed out on the sidewalk trying to get back to our DD's car. Hilarious night I must say. But the next morning, the bottom quarter or 30% of his touchscreen, including the 4 buttons on the bottom of the phone were not working. He took it to the AT&T store, which didn't help. So, he canceled his contract and went to Sprint, leaving me with his Atrix.
My thoughts are: he possibly spilled something on himself, getting the Atrix too wet, but there are no signs of water damage, or when he fell down the steps / or on the road, it became damaged. Is there any way to tell for sure that it is a hardware problem? I'm unfamiliar with the Atrix as I have a Captivate, but any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!
Try a factory reset.
Edit: now I feel stupid. That part of the screen won't work. Duh.

If that doesn't work, flash your SBF again.
So I flashed back into gb with the latest GB RUU it finished fine but... afterwords I entered Hboot and bam it turned off, Never to be awakened again. I have 2 batteries I tried and nothing tried adb reboot, still nothing. So I called vzw and I'm getting a "replacement". This will be my third rezound lets hope it works fine. anyone else have any stories for me while I wait for my phone to arrive?...
No, first phone works great right out of the box.
Via my HTC Rezound
Never had a single problem but maybe because mine was made in September which was likely one of the first productions
Proximity Sensor Died
Had my Rez for around 4 months. Noticed in the last week or so that the screen never shut off during a call. Rolled back to the latest GB RUU and relocked the phone. Tested again and still a no go.
Spoke with Verizon and they sent out a replacement. This one has another issue with the proximity sensor. Right after I dial, the screen goes black. Have to keep hitting the power button to wake the screen when I take it away from my head. Unless I have the phone tilted toward a light, the proximity sensor turns the screen off during calls. This one also has pink buttons.
Guess I'll be getting back with Verizon shortly...
You did check to make sure the sensor is not blocked right?
Blow it with some canned air. Lint gets in the way all the time.

Pretty much the exact same thing happened to me with my original Rezound as I was trying to prepare it to send back to Verizon. Originally the screen just died, so I was using fastboot to restore to its original ROM and recovery, and somewhere along the process the Rezound just decided to die completely. Charge LED never illuminated again, and I couldn't get it to turn on at all after that. Oh well, it was on its way back to Verizon anyways.
First phone purchased on Cyber Monday, sent out December 15th when it came back in stock on AmazonWireless. It was January or February when the USB port just gave out, no charging or data flow at all. Had to get a CLN. Both with pink keys and light leak on the bottom >.<

Here's my sad story. I spent a good 3 - 4 days getting my rezound working on CleanROM. It was not easy; re locking, downgrading the main very files, wiping, flashing Ruu, wiping again, flashing CleanROM, and so forth.
The next day I was charging it, and noticed it was hot at the plug (USB port) I re plugged in the charger and the heat was gone, as was the charge. Long story short, the USB port was fried. I called Verizon and they sent me a new one.
I was just about to start rooting it when I noticed the touch screen was not responsive in one area (an inch above the bottom of the phone).
It was at this point my wife ask when I would just stop with this phone and get an iPhone, b/c it just works. I won't go into the fight that ensued :-$.
So after proving to big red that it was not due to an application I installed, they agreed to send me a new new one (which I'm writing to you on now)
So far, so good. Fingers crossed.
I'll probably try rooting this guy tomorrow. Wish me luck .

I am expecting my 4th Rezound in a little over two weeks. Each one was not able to lock onto a 3G signal not to mention 4G. And after the 3rd Rezound they sent me a Razr Maxx with the same issue, did not like the Maxx any way. They and I are scratching our heads on how unlucky it has been. Before you say anything, yes all setting were correct, I even stop using custom roms and either way 4 phones with signal issues yet my ole Fassy still locks onto a 3g.
