minimum that needs to be done to receive OTA update? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was just wondering, since I'm pretty much stock with JAC's OC/UV kernel, what the minimum I have to do to get the OTA update?
So far i've only flashed back to the stock kernal via clockwerk, but I'm still rooted (which is stated in the tips thread that it doesn't affect one's ability to receive OTA updates) with the GPS files pulled from the "sneak release" a while back. Other than that, I have launcherpro and mobileAP, while everything else is bone stock.
Is there anything else I have to do? I don't want to odin a completely stock rom because I don't want to deal with the bloatware all over again, but I'm just paranoid that i'm just not getting OTA updates since the announcement was broadcasted 10/7
Thanks in advanced, and I'm sorry if i'm just beating a dead cow

I think you need to have the stock kernel in order to receive the OTA updates

[Q]eris rooted 2.1 to latest ota update?

Rooted my moms eris and want to update it to the latest ota update not worried about root allthough a rooted oced ota would be nice is there a rom out there like this??
Kinda need it to be stable since its my moms phone so i figure just going to the latest ota would be the best bet.
FYI
i tried to just update via the phone but kept getting settings force close errors...
if you are rooted any rom here is 2.1 or higher, just download a rom and your set, dont worry about ota...
fyi plainjane 2.1 is proably your best bet if your wanting to keep that 2.1 stock feel,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685581
To get to the OTA
Flash the latest PB00IMG.zip leaked version 3 through the bootloader, let the phone boot up as normal sign in to google whatever. When your done you will get the OTA and it will run successfully, I just did it today because I had to unroot and I'm actually leaving now to bring my phone back to Verizon for Trackball problems, again..... You can then reroot if you want and you will be on the new latest radio etc...
T2Noob released a Stock rom with Root and the ability to Overclock with the Newest OTA about a month back, check it out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718092
I wild even try the cyborg evolution rom since its based off the latest 2.1 ruu.
Just take a look at the ROMs that are available and see what they are bad on.

[Q] Custom Kernel and OTA Update

I've tried to keep my Vibrant as close to stock as possible because I don't want to lose the OTA update capability. I don't want to have to flash to stock via Odin before I update my phone because it is hardware locked. So far, I've only done minor mods (metamorph, removed bloat).
So if I install a custom kernel such as JAC's or KK's overclocked kernels, will I lose the ability to OTA update? Will the update simply overwrite the existing kernel on my phone?

Most likely the devs in this forum will have a working and better version of any OTA you will get. Also when you get the OTA you will loose root and most likely get the bloat back. In my opinion you are better off waiting for one of eugene or bionix roms anyway.
To be more specific, my question is whether updating to any future ROM/OTA update will overwrite the existing kernel, or do I have to flash the stock kernel back before any of this?

You have to flash the stock kernal in order to be able to receive an OTA
Frankin-Twiz Final, awesome
can a stock kernal be flashed right over a custom kernal? (jac oc/uv)

I think so, unless you have any kind of lagfix installed. I say so because I have flashed ROMS like Bionix (which has its own kernel) over stock and vice versa. MAKE SURE NO LAGFIX IS INSTALLED!
is there a link for a stock kernel that can be flashed through clockwork recovery as a zip without ODIN?
Im assuming there is as I flashed the OC/UV Jac kernel though clockwork, so assuming that stock should be able to be flashed through clockwork.
Thanks
EDIT:
Can someone confirm that this is the stock kernel that can be flashed through clockwork? If I flash this (just stay rooted and with mobile AP) I should go back to be able to receive OTA updates, correct (I have not flashed any custom roms, just kernel)??

[Q] Quick question about flashing custom kernel/rom

At the moment I'm running JI6 stock rooted and OCLF. I was thinking of installing the new "Core v1" or Bionix but I just had a couple questions.
After I install a new rom, and a new update comes out, do I have to reflash the new update? Or is there a option in the rom itself to update to the newer version?
This is my first android phone and so far searching has gotten me all the answers I need but this one I have not found an answer to.
Thanks alot!
In short, you will not get an update notification on most if not all custom roms. On the plus side, these new features are usually leaked and implemented into the roms prior to the OTA updates so you really won't need them.

Sorry, I know that I won't receive official updates OTA when a rom is installed.
What I meant was if I were to, for example, flash Bionix 1.3, and a day or two later Bionix 1.4 was released, would I be able to update from the phone itself or would I have to reflash the new rom?

[Q] ED01 community rom v1.2 help: not getting texts

I just upgraded from my old Droid Eris to a new fascinate last friday and I've been messing around with it trying out different ROMs and such and i decided to install the ED01 v1.2 rom today. I was enjoying it until i found out that i couldn't recieve texts and when i sent them all it would send was a blank text...
I've since reverted back to stock and I was wondering if anyone could help me out because I was really enjoying the rom until i realized I wasnt getting texts.
What modem did you flash when you were running UKB 1.2?
*You should be running the EC01 or the ED01 modem. You can find the ODIN file for EC01 modem in the forums. Sadly, in order to have the ED01 radio, you need to go through Adrynalyne's process of retrieving it (which you can also find in the forums).
I think I was just running the EI01 regular baseband. I didn't know that was even a factor. I'm going to try to find everything you just mentioned haha, wish me luck

actually i run into the same problem.. im on ec01 radio comm 1.2, i live in an area with poor service.. but i could usually send messages.. now if i lose service for more than 5-10 minutes.. i have to reboot phone to get them to send/recieve.. not even toggling airplane mode will bring it back.. ive tried *228 with no improvement
Ok so I reflashed a stock fully bloated 100% original rom and took the OTA update to Froyo which upgrades the modem to ED01 right? So i should be able to flash the community rom fine now without any problems right? or am i completely wrong?

It should work if you followed adrynalyne's steps to getting ED01 with ED01 radio. Good luck!

How to get to latest firmware after downgrading and rooting

Im downgrading to 2.11.605.5 , I currently have 2.11.605.9. After doing this and using revolutionary I was not sure if I will still be on 2.11.605.5 after I root? If so, will I have to flash a rom that has 2.11.605.9 built in it? And if I stay stock rooted will I keep getting messages about an update from Verizon? I really want to stay stock rooted, but can flash a custom rom if there is one that is a stock / debloated type of Sense rom.
Anyone? Thanks.
You will get the update nag unless you install a rooted OTA update version of the stock ROM. I know those are available, quick search yields a couple versions, some fully stock, some with tweaking to remove bloat.
Take a look at what's available, choose and flash one after backing up your current setup.
The radios are a different story. Their performance varies by geography and device. Again, search and read up on them and flash to see what works for you.
Ymmv from that of others.
