Hello xda, I just had a quick question.
Okay, so im not sure whether this is right: when in the camera app, on "normal" capture mode, I press the camera hard button, but the camera only goes into focus....thats it. It does not capture the picture...thus the normal mode is useless for me, please help.
Thank you
This was true for me too. What it is is that the button needs to be pressed hard. Try pressing it harder. Personally I prefer the touch capture cuz when I go to press the shutter button, the whole phone shakes up and the pictures come out blurry

lol, easy mistake. you could always turn on "tap to take picture"
tap the screen, it focuses and then takes pic. easy!
The switch has 2 "switches", soft press, the camera focuses so that you can see if everything is ok, if you hold it like that and press a little harder, it will take a picture.

Most smarthones have this "dual press" feature.. it took me days to figure out how to snap a picture on my Omnia (back in the windows mobile days)
Try pressing it harder........
The button is now on the left side of my phone :lol
But the button on my phone has only a decorative function I guess...it doesn't do anything...no matter how hard I press...

I love this phone, but im having problems using the power button on the top. My fingers are having a hard time to manage to press down the powerbutton on top. This means i have to use two hands to actually lock the screen after using the phone.
Does anyone know about any apps/widgets/something that lets me just click it, and then it activates the lockscreen/turns off the display?
Thanks.

That cover can be b*t*h indeed. Becomes easier the more times you take it off though
press simultaneously:
- power button
- volume down
- camera button (alias trackball)

Where were you about one month ago? Since then I took the battery out tens of times and now at every press of the power button, the phone skweaks.
it work ...great tip
Anyone know EXACTLY how this app works? I can only get it to work in SMS threads...i press back a whole bunch and nothing happens, then i hit the home button and it takes a picture. I use shootme for the most part, but having a screencapture service built in is cool, IF I KNEW HOW TO USE IT. so does anyone know how it works?
i am on a samsung vibrant with team whiskeys bionix v 1.3.1 rom
this has been brought up many many times, no one that i know of has been able to discern how to make it work natively. My understanding is that this happens when a system level crash occurs or the phone freezes up.
i know with my tablet you press and hold the back button then hit the power button. it snaps a sreen shot
its probably an issue with not have physical buttons on the button like the i9000 does

Yes, it works for TABLETS only, not for little bro's

No it doesn't work for us because we have no physical button.
I9000 does, and those little bros can!
My i9100 built-in Screen Capture Service default output is png format. How can I change it to jpeg format?
Is there an app that allows you to reassign the functions of the power button to another key? I am trying to minimize how often I have to use the power button because of the issues several of us are having with the power button.
What are the issues with the power button?
Its hard to describe, its as if the Power Button is moving into the phone it is not sticking out nearly as much as it was when it was new as a result it is becoming tougher to push as it becomes flush with the top of the phone.....

I know what you mean. I came from the Droid X and my first thought when using the Thunderbolt was "WTF at the power button!?" It sits too damn flush with the top of the phone. It took me a good 2-3 days to get used to it. I kept having to look at the top of the phone to get my finger in the right spot.
Anyways... are you rooted? Das BAMF has a feature that allows the volume rockers to be used to wake up the phone. You could then download something like SwitchPro and use a widget to turn to the screen off. Essentially you'd never have to use the power button then.

Yes I am rooted, I have not tried any custom roms yet. I will try SwitchPro and see how that works. Thanks for the info!!!
SwitchPro does not have anything that looks like it would work as a power button, are there any other suggestions?
I use the free version of quick boot and hardly ever use the power button it allows:
reboot
recovery
bootloader
Power off

don't ignore this link because its the only way to get it to wake with the volume rocker buttons
I also downloaded Screen Off to put my device in sleep mode. With these two apps the only time I need to use the power button is when I'm updating ROMs or I need to power on my phone.
Good luck

I don't understand why you would want to replace one of the physical buttons... You do KNOW we ONLY have volume buttons, home button and a power button? Right?...

Sounds like you're having a bit of "diarius" of the brain! now that's smart!
Seriously not sure you would want to do that but the menu button held down will get you to Google now so if it were possible I would start there.

The VGA camera in the front isn't very clear; gotta turn the phone around to take a good pic. Voice command doesn't work well outside. I was thinking of something like holding the power button while the camera app was open would = snap a pic instead of shutting the screen? :highfive:
Camera Zoom FX is a camera app. You can configure the volume up/down buttons as a shutter. There is also an app on the Play Store called Volshutter Camera, which allows you to configure the volume keys to activate the shutter.

Hello mensrius,
This is quite amazing, I am already using this feature with my p765 factory JB rom v20a. Pressing volume button (no matter up or down), while having stock camera app open, phone sets focus and snap a picture . May be you haven't tried it or this feature is missing in p769
