I don't understand why you would want to replace one of the physical buttons... You do KNOW we ONLY have volume buttons, home button and a power button? Right?...

Sounds like you're having a bit of "diarius" of the brain! now that's smart!
Seriously not sure you would want to do that but the menu button held down will get you to Google now so if it were possible I would start there.

The VGA camera in the front isn't very clear; gotta turn the phone around to take a good pic. Voice command doesn't work well outside. I was thinking of something like holding the power button while the camera app was open would = snap a pic instead of shutting the screen? :highfive:
Camera Zoom FX is a camera app. You can configure the volume up/down buttons as a shutter. There is also an app on the Play Store called Volshutter Camera, which allows you to configure the volume keys to activate the shutter.

Hello mensrius,
This is quite amazing, I am already using this feature with my p765 factory JB rom v20a. Pressing volume button (no matter up or down), while having stock camera app open, phone sets focus and snap a picture . May be you haven't tried it or this feature is missing in p769

Hello xda, I just had a quick question.
Okay, so im not sure whether this is right: when in the camera app, on "normal" capture mode, I press the camera hard button, but the camera only goes into focus....thats it. It does not capture the picture...thus the normal mode is useless for me, please help.

This was true for me too. What it is is that the button needs to be pressed hard. Try pressing it harder. Personally I prefer the touch capture cuz when I go to press the shutter button, the whole phone shakes up and the pictures come out blurry

lol, easy mistake. you could always turn on "tap to take picture"
tap the screen, it focuses and then takes pic. easy!
The switch has 2 "switches", soft press, the camera focuses so that you can see if everything is ok, if you hold it like that and press a little harder, it will take a picture.

Most smarthones have this "dual press" feature.. it took me days to figure out how to snap a picture on my Omnia (back in the windows mobile days)
Try pressing it harder........
The button is now on the left side of my phone :lol
But the button on my phone has only a decorative function I guess...it doesn't do anything...no matter how hard I press...

Hello you think it will be possible to root the camera button on the touchscreen to a physical button like the on/off button or the middle button to make better pictures?? If you try to make a photo from yourself it is nearly impossible to hit the button on the touchscreen to make the picture. Bad Solution from Samsung.
It'll be hard: power button is tied to sleep, home button is tied to suspend. You'll have to override these functions for it to happen.
maybe with a app it would be going i dunno i heard about vignette with that app it is possible to make pictures with the volume buttons.

Check this thread.. Posted under the general section.. Don't know whether it will help because the uploaded file is for SGS i9000.. But he has managed to implement it on an ACE so he might be able to guide you all through the process..

Is there a tweak or a camera app which makes the power button as the camera shutter? The volume rocker on the stock camera pp lets you zoom..but can it be changed to take pictures? i hate touching the screen to take pictures.

I use a camera app replacement called CameraFX that allows you to choose the volume or power buttons to take photos. It was on sale for $2.99 over the weekend and is a pretty good replacement for the stock camera.
vignette is a pretty nice one lots of features like silent camera and volume button for shutter
Camera apk can be hacked to do this give it time it will come

Thanks but I ws looking for a mod that would do it in stock camera app. There are plenty of camera apps that can do this.

the round button under the 2d-3d switch. when you hold phone horrizontally the button is in the same place as a camera. its a "double" button. push it to first stop and it focuses, puch it all the way and it takes the pic.
also, most camera software allows you to tap on the screen and it will adjust focus in that area.

as you people know sony has shortcut key on right handside but mine not working.when i press CAMERA BUTTON then it only focus but didnt ake pictures so then i touch Camera icon in camera to take pics..

to open camera with physical button, set this option in camera settings Quick Launch-->Launch and capture or any other option.
to get to work physical camera button u need to press it once(not so hard) and then pres harder and Fast Capture option will launch

The camera button has 2 stages, one to focus and if you press harder to capture or launch camera.
Did it work for you before?
Can you feel the 2 stages when you press the camera button?

Yes I feel it hass two stages one for focus and one for capture, but this button lanuch camera , when I lanuch camera and press camera Key it focus only. I want to lanuch camera when I press my vamera key......

Key may be broken then, if it only ocus and won't capture it won't launch camera either.
In dialer type "*#*#7378423*#*#" (no quotes) and go to Service tests -> Keyboard & Switch, press the camera to next stage see if you get "Camra" or only "Auto Focus"
