X10 Mini (e10a) debranding tutorial [north american model] - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

THIS DEBRANDING TUTORIAL IS FOR NORTH AMERICAN X10 Mini's only. DO NOT FLASH YOUR e10i WITH THESE FIRMWARE FILES.
1. Download files:
-SE Update Service (go to SE website/google)
-E10a Generic Unbranded http://rapidshare.com/files/425135342/firmware-e10a.rar
2. Update your phone in SEUS.
3 Navigate to db folder (C: –> Program Files –> Sony Ericsson –> Update Service –> db) delete the contents inside db.
3. Go to the following directory: C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db13740270\blob_fs . - Delete this
4. Run the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) to update your X10 mini - completely restore your mini.
5. Exit SEUS as prompted
6. Navigate back to the 'db' folder: you will see the folder you deleted has returned.
7.Sort the files by date in descending order. The two files at the top will be 90MB and one around 13MB. Backup these two original files into a different directory. This is an optional step but means you can revert back to the branded firmware if needed.
8. Find the larger file out of the 3 (90mb) in the .rar file you just downloaded
10. Rename file thats 90mb from the .rar folder with the same name as the 90mb file in the 'db' folder
11. repeat with 12 mb file.
12. disregard the 60kb file. its useless.
13. Run the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) again. It should say that you already have the latest update, click on the reinstall button anyway. The program will then start to re-download the same files. The trick here is to replace the files that are being re-downloaded with your new files from Step 8.
Open up Windows Explorer and navigate to the blob_fs folder. SEUS will first re-download the smaller (12MB) file. Constantly monitor this folder to find out when the smaller (12MB) file has been fully downloaded again. Once it has, immediately move your smaller file from Step 7 into the blob_fs folder and overwrite the file.
Now for the larger file. Keep an eye on the download progress bar in SEUS. Once the download is very near to completion you will need to copy the larger (90MB) file from Step 7 into the blob_fs folder and overwrite the file. Time the file transfer for when there is literally around 1/2MB left to be downloaded.
If successful, the installation will carry on as normal. If not, try again. Don’t worry you will not brick your phone if it doesn’t work. It will simply tell you that the installation failed.
14. If successful your phone is debranded!
Do at your own risk. I do not take any responsibility of any damages done to your phone.

What languages handles this firmware?

Once you debranded the phone with that firmware... was you able to upgrade it to a recent firmware version like 1.2.A.1.174?

Yes you could wait for your operator

it works .. with some effort but it works
it works .. just try and try and try and try ..
after 23 attempts .. i succeed
thanks
now i have a debranded (from claro company in chile) x10 mini

using other software
I'm wondering, is it possible to use the firmware from the first post to flash the x10 mini using another software, like x10flash?
Regards,

what are the actual benefits of this debranded image?
no more operator logo/apps only?
or does it also free you from being sim locked to that given operator?
thanks!

not sure about unlock... but you defs get rid of all the operator stuff which gets rid of a lot of lag and you get your updates earlier...
like that rogers urmusic app. its the most useless thing and they dont give you playnow...

hm, but to me maybe thats not a good deal, because mine is a e10a, and last i ve heard unbranded e10a were still stuck at 1.0.0.8 while e10i were at 1.2.something.
mine currently is e10a, branded (claro), and at 1.2.something

Any way to do http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743800 in e10a??? We need build.prop from e10a to do it, and the codes obviusly.

which is the right choice, because this twice?

Its hard to do
the SEUS overwrite the files that are not default then cant put the files in the folder before use SEUS
and cant overwrite the files while seus is downloading these files because it cause error before the installation
and if the files are default, donwload dont start and start installation without download
I dont know if it happen only in my country, brazil
its almost impossible =/

Automatic 2.06.00 Sin.Merged.v2.0 ROM

NOTE
This is my first cooking, feel free to try it out.
Eventhough I've been testing it and the results are good, conditions still apply: Use this at your own risk :!:
Explanation
This version of ROM is basically a Sin.Merged.v2.0 ROM cooked with xda2jojo/toenailed's extended_rom compression method.
And the result is a fully automatic ROM upgrade which can be done within your XDA II, no PC needed (except when flashing).
The Difference
Sin.Merged.v2.0 :
- Manual ROM merging using ActiveSync (you need to use your PC).
- Extended_rom installed manually using either Sprite BackUp or run it one by one.
Xda2.HERY.mod :
- Automatic ROM merging (no PC needed) continued with automatic extended_rom installation.
- All done automatically following the hard reset after flashing.
Ingredients
ROM = Sin.Merged.v2.0.
Cab files = collected from Sin.Merged.v2.0's collection.
Extended_rom = compressed by xda2jojo/toenailed (using CrunchIt).
Methods
There are 3 ways to take you there.
No matter which method you choose, the end result will be the same.
Method A/B/C How To:
Download the Xda2.HERY.mod.A/B/C.exe
Flash your XDA II by running the downloaded file.
You'll be asked to perform a hard reset after that.
Soon xBackup will automatically start after a while.
Tap "Restore" tab, tick "All Data", open Storage (not Storage Card) and tap Start.
Then wait until it finished, and tap "YES" when it ask for a restart.
Then it will start installing automatically.
Don't bother with the debug pop-up window.
At the end, you'll be asked to choose your provider.
At this point, you HAVE TO choose one then tap "X".
Coz if you don't, it won't restart, and it will ruin the whole process.
If you don't, even another hard reset won't help since the config files in extended_rom has been changed.
Method A/B/C CAUTION :
Whatever you do, DO NOT tap or do anything during the whole process.
You are only allowed to tap "YES" or "OK" everytime.
During the process, NEVER tap anything unless you're asked to (including tapping the Start button).
Changes are made inside the extended_rom during the process.
After everything finish, I've created a file to reverse those changes back to its previous state (before the hard reset).
Therefore when you need to do another hard reset, the files inside extended_rom will be exactly the same as before.
So it is VERY IMPORTANT for you NOT TO interrupt the process except tapping "YES" or "OK" when it asked.
I have tested this method and the result is flawless, but always bear in mind: "Do this at your own risk".
Method A:
Xda2.HERY.mod.A.exe
Method A README.txt
ADVANTAGE :
The benefit of this method is you'll have plenty space in your extended_rom.
The free space can be used to put the cab files that you always reinstall after every hard reset.
DISADVANTAGE :
The downfall of this method is you won't be able to see the compressed cab files.
They will be automatically deleted after the process.
FUTURE MODIFICATION :
Just in case in the future you want to put more cab files into the extended_rom, you have to do the following:
- Unhide & Unlock the extended_rom using the Extended ROM Tools.
- Some cab file is self delete after install, so just to be safe, don't forget to change the cab file's properties to
read-only.
- Copy the cab file(s) into the extended_rom.
- Open config2.txt.
- Add the name of you cab file(s) in the FIRST line, I repeat, ... FIRST line.
- Example, if you want to add a file named "sample.cab", then insert this in the first line, CAB: \Extended_ROM\sample.cab
- Save and close the config2.txt.
- And for security, don't forget to always keep you extended_rom Locked (and Hidden if necessary).
Just in case if you want to see the compressed cab files, just run the ExtROM.exe file in your extended_rom and choose a
folder to extract (if your extended_rom is hidden, Unhide it first).
You don't have to run Unlock the extended_rom to run the ExtROM.exe, just keep it in locked state.
Method B:
Xda2.HERY.mod.B.exe
Method B README.txt
There will be a short delay before xBackup showed up.
Just be patient because a quite large CompactFlashBackUpNew file is being extracted and copied to the Storage folder.
ADVANTAGE :
The benefit of this method is you'll have plenty space in your extended_rom.
The free space can be used to put the cab files that you always reinstall after every hard reset.
DISADVANTAGE :
The downfall of this method is you won't be able to see the compressed cab files.
Because everything has been backed up in a backup file (CompactFlashBackUpNew), which will be automatically deleted after
the process.
Eventhough there's plenty of free space to put extra cab files, with this method, you have to install the added cab files
manually from inside extended_rom.
- Run it.
- And for security, don't forget to always keep you extended_rom Locked (and Hidden if necessary).
Method C:
Xda2.HERY.mod.C.exe
Method C README.txt
ADVANTAGE :
The benefit of this method is you'll be abe to see all the installed cab files.
DISADVANTAGE :
The downfall of this method is you won't have much free space left in your extended_rom.
- Add the name of you cab file(s) in the line.
- Example, if you want to add a file named "sample.cab", then insert this line, CAB: \Extended_ROM\sample.cab
Millions of Thanks to :
Sin for:
- the Backup.stg file of ROM 2.02.t1WWE.
- all the cab files.
- the genius discovery of merging between ROMs.
xda2ojo & toenailed for:
- the XdA2JoJo[1].v3.0.1t.cab file.
- the CrunchIt.exe file.
- the brilliant idea of compressing extended_rom files.
In conclusion, you guys are simply THE BEST !!!

Yes, Jojo, all three methods using xBackup.
But I believe you refer to method B.
For method B, the tricky part is, to make it all run in one step.
As we know, after a ROM flash, all will be back to standard.
I've already put the CompactFlashBackupNew file in the extended rom, which will be auto copied to the Storage folder, ready to be xBackup-ed.
After xBackup complete, you'll be asked to do a reset.
Then, where's the auto config part?
After the xBackup reset, you're suppose to MANUALLY go to Start, Programs, Communication, AutoConfig.
And to clear things up, you have to MANUALLY delete the CompactFlashBackupNew file in the Storage folder.
Plus for safety reason, just in case you accidentally change files in the extended rom, you have to Lock and Hide it, ... once again, ... MANUALLY.
Here's the tricky part, you don't have to do all those things manually.
Everything will be automatic following the hard reset after ROM flashing.
After the xBackup reset, you'll be brought automatically to the AutoConfig, which will bring you to another final reset.
After that, ... voila, you're done.
And the CompactFlashBackupNew file in the Storage folder will be automatically gone, plus your extended rom will also be automatically locked and hidden (you can always unlock or unhide it with the pre-installed Extended ROM Tools).
So no need for you to do step 2, 3, etc.
Only 1 step, and it'll take you to straight to the finish line.
So does the other methods, all in 1 step.
Can anybody tell me the passwords for these files? I want to use them on a german t-mobile device.
Thanks

What do you mean?
I didn't put any password.
Is it the password to open/run the file or to download the file?

It's nice to know our gadgeter (indonesian) can improve the extended room for XDA. i hope we can make better one in next day.
but i've some question for u herry.
1. This rom is only for indonesian user?
2. wht's content in this rom? is it same like the xda2jojo's rom?
3. Any freatures are good in urs rom?
Just inform to you, i'm also cooking my extended room for indonesian only. but i'm not a programer. so it'll take long time.. he he.. i hope we can combine with the others.
btw.. where do u life? tinggal dimana pak?
for XDA2Jojo, i think i must learn from u so much more, buddy. would u teach me about cooking? ya... maybe about some philipine's cooking? ok, thank's b4..
Salut!
Iya donk, gadgeteer Indo jgn kalah...
Tapi kayaknya cara kamu ribet deh. Pake XBackup lagi... PELAAAAN nya ga tahan. Bisa mandi dulu, makan dulu & blm selesai juga. :x
Gue sendiri pake Sin Merged tapi ext romnya gue ganti dgn file2 sendiri kecuali Sin Merged v2.0.cab. Khususnya carrier files hanya gue tinggalin yg gue pake aja. Lagi tunggu Win2K5 nih... kayaknya the great Buzz baru saja release full 128 RAM.

Sorry for the late reply.
Allow me to answer the Q's:
1. Actually the only thing that make this one feels like Indonesian ROM is the AutoConfig cab files, which consist 3 Indonesian provider.
For other countries have to search or find the suitable cab file(s).
The rest (other than AutoConfig stuff) are all universal use.
2. Nope, the same thing about JoJo's version is the cooking method (using the compressed ext_rom). It's more alike to Sin.Merged.v2.0's version.
3. The good feature in this ROM is the ability to do it all automatically.
Thank you, hope it explains.
See ya again, friend.

Hi there, flashed the rom on my XDA II using method C, was wondering if I got it correct. Whenever I soft reseted my PDA, there will be a prompt from PHM reset for me to reset the phone shortly after load up, as you can see it will be an endless loop if I did not choose "NO" when prompt to reset the phone on startup. Will like to know if this is normal ir did I do something wrong during the process.

Yes, it is very important.
It contains all the extended ROM that listed in the other methods.
Like I said, all three methods ended up with same results.
Nope, I didn't try to put the extended ROM in merged and non-merged.
Since this already concluded by Mr. Sin that merged one is better than non-merged one, therefore I just use the merged one instead of the non-merged one.
Thanks.

Please note: Flashing your Xperia X10i to X10a (and vice versa) will result in SEUS not being able to update your phone for future updates.
2) Delete contents of db folder (C: –> Program Files –> Sony Ericsson –> Update Service –> db).
3) Run the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) to update your Xperia X10
4) Go to C: –> Program Files –> Sony Ericsson –> Update Service –> db –> 13740270 –> blob_fs.

Yes, I have the same problem, no matter if the phone is in landscape or portrait. Same problem. However, since I'm aware of this issue, I have come up with a simple solution. Just hold the A 1/10th of a sec. longer and it will work. At least it does for me.
This is ofcourse nothing one should expect from such a device, but I can live with it.

Why did you bump a 4 month old thread about an outdated FW.

Remapped keyboard issues in 2.1

Ok, I rooted and remapped the keyboard, and ti works fine, however, in order to get rid of the ugly language bar in landscape mode, I unchecked "default input settings" in the settings and.... they keyboard started acting as finnish/swedish again! When I checked "default input settings" - it reverted to normal. Is there any other file to edit?
ive got teh same problem
hmm since its still trying to grab qwerty-se-fi....what if we replace that with the qwerty-en.xml.
nope no dice
Any other ideas where the keyboard layout might be hiding?
if you uncheck the default input, the system uses the qwerty.kcm.bin file in /system/usr/keychars folder.
to get that replaced by the english layout you have to copy the qwerty-en.kcm.bin file from the /system/usr/keychars/mimmi/keyprints folder up into the /system/usr/keychars folder and save it as the qwerty.kcm.bin file.
i have read this somewhere on the x10 forum. i can't find the topic at the moment.
as i mentioned in another thread, the paths are from android 1.6. they might be different on 2.1.

edit: i actually read it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777660

You didn´t understand. This is easy, and everyobody does it. The problems start when you untick the default entry method in keyboard properties. Read carefully first post.

I downgraded to 1.6 German and will wait for official release. Having a Swedish layout on a German keyboard using English for typing is too much for my poor brains. Meanwhile since you ar on 2.1 can you check the idea below?

I strongly suspect that this file will be the same in 1.6 . So what I will try to do - save this file from a german version of 1.6, flash nordic, and install the file from german version.
PS - tested it works.
great!works!
thanks everyone!
@magizhang...where'd you get the en layout?

Don´t forget that we will have to repeat this monkey business after every upgrade!
On the other note - I see here people of all nations, from all corners of the world rapidly and efficiently working together and solving all kinds of problems and I ask myself why it doesn´t happen offline in the real life. Makes me really sad.

or just use a different build.prop again?
well, be happy, we just made it work and whipped SE's ass again!
now to crack bootloader...

easy steps to upgrade any (1.6 or 2.1)ROOTED to 2.1 rogers (without flashing)

it's been mentioned here and there but when I was looking I would have appreciated if someone just put it all in one place. a reminder this is based on the work been done by arkedk in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824711
so all credit really goes to him I just wanted to make a special version for rogers users that walk them step by step because it's really easy if follow a good instruction
ok first you need to use root explorer having your device rooted you better know what that is or you shouldn't have rooted in the first place!
1) inside the root explorer go to system/default.prop
and change the following XXXX-XXXX in the following three lines from whatever number in there to this number: 1233-6929 (DON'T USE OTHER ROGERS CUSTOMIZED NUMBER BECAUSE THEY AREN'T WORKING THIS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKED FOR ME!)
ro.product.name=X10_XXXX-XXXX
ro.build.fingerprint=SEMC/X10_XXXX-XXXX/X10i/es209ra:2.1-update1/2.0.A.0.497/8QFA:user/release-keys
ro.semc.version.cust=XXXX-XXXX
2)for pc companion
type run in the search then enter,a window will open
enter the following line in it:
%programdata%\Sony Ericsson\Update Engine\db\
and delete the folder inside(it's a folder with numbers as name)
for SEUS
type run in the search then enter, a window will open
enter the following line in it:
%programfiles%\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db\
and delete the folder inside(it's a folder with numbers as name)
3)last step go to SEUS or pc companion update and they gonna show you how to get from there
QUESTIONS:
Q:is it only rogers customers can upgrade to this 2.1 from 1.6?
A:No it's like change region post it's x10a rogers 2.1 version simple!
Q:how to root?
A:search for z4root in the market it's one click root
Q:will I lose my data
A:yes use your backup and restore program + titanium backup pro to make sure you lose no data
Enjoy everyone!
For those people who already flashed to Nordic 2.1 or some other 2.1 version wish to flash back to Rogers 2.1
1. Make sure you have rooted your device.
2. Install RootExplorer from market.
3. Use RootExplorer and open the build.prop in Text Editor (build.prop file is located at /system)
4. Change the following XXXX-XXXX in the following two lines from whatever number to: 1233-6929
ro.product.name=X10a_1233-6929
ro.semc.version.cust=1233-6929
Save the file after you made the change.
5. Go to /etc/customization/settings and open "cust.prop" with Text Editor, and change the XXXX-XXXX in the following line to 1233-6929
ro.semc.version.cust=1233-6929
Save the file after you made the change.
Put the phone in the flash mode and update with SEUS should give you Rogers 2.1 frimware.
Regards
I have gobal generic ROM I used the instructions from Nordic rom but it didn't work. I'm getting you have latest software. Do I need to do something else

Thanks for the instructions. I've sucessfully converted from Global Generic X10i to Rogers X10a. However, I had to make some changes before I got it to work. The first time I did it, it didn't give me an option to Repair or Install - just Exit.
Besides changing "ro.product.name" and "ro.semc.version.cust", I also changed the number in "ro.build.fingerprint" (which is also in build.prop) to 1233-6929. I also went and deleted the old firmware from the SEUS db folder, as stated in the original post.
I might as well say what "branding" it includes:
- Rogers splash screen on bootup. Now it's shown after the SE logo animation. It's kind of long, actually. I wish I had saved the old one (which was just the SE logo).
- Rogers "My Account" app is included. This app is also downloadable from the Market.
- "PlayNow" app has been replaced with "urMusic" app. This also appears instead of "PlayNow" in Mediascape.
- "Creatouch" app is still included (which is the only app in PlayNow that can't be downloaded from the Market, I think).
- Rogers APN settings are included and enabled by default. No need to manually enter them.

Spanish keyboard input

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but... I've noticed that the correct file for spanish keyboard input for Cm6 roms is missing (if it's supossed to be the latin bopomofo, it doesn't work correctly) but there was a file called spain.zip surfing in the SE keyb input Topic that works completely fine.
The problem is that it's made for xrecovery and not for CWM, and by today I've seen that spanish correct file is not included in the rom manager keyboard select, or the program working in windows.
Is it possible to correct it? Maybe there's a lot of spanish people with this problem. If I'm mistaken, please delete this topic.
Thanks for your work

yes, my keyboard dont work correctly. in this version....
you can browse the xrecovery file you already have and find the keyprint.xml and copy it to the sd card
with root explorer or any file manager that can explore your root
go to /system/usr/keyboard-config delete the existing keyprint.xml and paste the one on sd card
give the right permisions [x] [x] [ ]

___________________ [x] [ ] [ ]
(remember to mount read/write to do anything on system)
reboot your phone
for me it worked that way with the greek keyboard
the one from rom manager was a bit messed up but i had the old one that worked fine
hope i helped
I recreated this package for CWM. I can not test it.
Please do so yourself. It should work.
But I am not responsible if not - so do your backups before! (cwm backupo should be enough and if it fails you will still be able to use cwm and restore your backup - but iam sure it will work

do you have the older xrecovery file that worked for you?
if you do you can try the method above and you will have the keyboard that works for you
its essencially the way we changed keyboard before xrecovery
Ok I'll try next time I change my current ROM
Maybe Solution
Go to "Settings"
"Language and Keyboard Settings"
in "Keyboard Settins" select Android Keyboard"
deselect "TalkBack Keyboard"
Reset Phone.
--------
Vete a "Ajustes"
