Ugh ok now I can't make calls - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for all the topics. I just unrooted and I have that little "target" sign looking thing next to wifi. I have a signal. I called *228 and hit 1 and reset and then I did it for 2 and reset.
What's up with this?
Also, I'm returning my phone and this is totally unrelated but what number should I call for technical support to try to get a free upgrade?
edit: This is probably for tech support to fix.

611 from another Verizon phone. They are going to try and talk you thru all types of fixes. Just be nice and joke with them a bit. If they cant fix it, they will transfer you to another level of tech support. If they cant fix it there they will issue you another device. If you have had several Eris's returned, tell them that you can't rely on this device because of all of problems you have had with it and you cant justify your monthly phone bill with all of these phone problems. Usually that is enough to get them talking about a totally different device.

Yeah I called support. I actually had ended up fixing it with *228. I'm going to call again monday (Actually they said they would call me) and I'm going to ask them if I can get an upgrade because the Eris has just been having a lot of problems.

No data, calls or text?

Is Sprint having outages that i don't know about? At least 5 times a week (past 3 weeks) my 3G icon goes away and my signal bars turn gray and i cant call, text or use data. Its extremely frustrating! Its not my bill/service as im always on time and ive NEVER been late or missed a payment so that's not the problem. I just dont get it. Ive reset my phone a million times! What is going on? When i make calls it just says "your account cannot be validated" and all text get rejected. After a couple of hours the 3G comes back and i can make calls. Sprint you're already horrible please dont make me pay cancellation fees because i will.
Anyone else experience this?
Sounds like a tower issue, happened to me months ago, call and complain, got a credit when doing so myself. Worse case scenario they make you hard reset, it doesn't work, they send a tech to the tower and they figure our there is a problem

Thanks for response man. I thought about tower issues but its been happening way too much so i started believing it was my actual phone.
If you go to the official sprint forums you will see many posts with these same problems, so its not the phone. http://community.sprint.com/baw/community/buzzaboutwireless/network-and-coverage

I called sprint and they said my area was experiencing technical difficulties lol, i said "for the past 3 weeks" the rep got silent. Im looking into the big red screw sprint.

Just call for a credit, remember, you can't use unlimited data on Big Red, and if they won't give you most of your bill back, try speaking to a manager and demanding your money back as you were not getting the required service specified in the contract.
EDIT: Remember, go up the chain of commands if needed, and be persistent.

[SOLVED]Activation Issues?

Is it just me or is anyone else having activation issues?
First, I tried activating it with the DEC numbers on the side of the box. Showed up the right Evo4GLTE but it told me I had to contact customer support.
Contacted chat support. They did the ESN swap for me easily but the phone never activated. After waiting and waiting it didn't activate so I decided to call Sprint and get transferred to Tech because I already went through the initial troubleshooting steps with Chat Online.
Tech support tells me to read the HEX or DEC number from the back of the phone. This ends up being DIFFERENT then whats on the label on the outside of the box. Stupid me. Or was it? She goes on to tell me that MY phone is under some other persons name "Karen". She asks me if I got this phone from someone basically implying that I stole it. I explain to her how we've all been waiting for a long time for this phone and this phone is BRAND NEW not even out in stores yet.
So whats the deal? I'm currently on hold with them but to be honest I think HTC or someone ****ed up in the labeling process and now everyone is trying to activate EVERYONE ELSE'S phone. WTF?!
More on this as the story unfolds.....
Update #1: Supervisor in the activation department says that someone screwed up and put the phone in the wrong box and since it's "keyed" into my account... simply switching the esn to my account wouldn't work. He goes on to say that they would have to get me a NEW DEVICE.
No way in hell am I going to let this happen.
Update #2: Had to get transferred to escalations. Janice from escalations told me she had fixed the issue and I should be able to activate it now through the website. Activated it on the website and now I have a functional EVO4GLTE!!
TLDR: Make sure you activate it with the the numbers found on the inside of the phone. Do not use the numbers from the label because they might be different!
when i talked to the guys at my best buy they told me that sprint was having problems activating the lte's today... But i havent picked mine up yet so i dont know..
I had to call them to activate mine as well. Everything worked fine after 10 minutes of the agent doing something while I waited. Sorry to hear about your issue regarding an already activated account though, that sounds quite annoying.

Did the phone start an activation process when you booted it AFTER you entered the DEC number on the web.
If it did not try doing an Update Profile.
I have not tried mine yet. But I just swapped phones around last night and sometimes you need to kick it.
Oh try pulling the battery, just kidding
I wonder if Karen works in Customs.

Yes. I probably should make that more clear on my original post. Activation screen popped up but it never activated because I entered in the RIGHT number that was on the label but the phone had a different set of serial numbers.

Apple strikes again?
Tried the activation menu when it popped up on the phone. I got all the way to the end when it asks to pick which number on the account to activate it to and then failed.
Called in and they were having a little trouble saying something about the phone being applied to a different number on my account. She started to say something about checking that number and then said "oh its the same number".
I'm wondering if it has something to do with LTE or if the device is registered in their system a little different. She couldn't even tell what device it was untill I told her. Then she started asking questions about it. She said there were only a few demos floating around and most reps had never seen one.
Everything's working great so far.

I had the same thing and was able to activate via chat.
I tried to activate online, and it also told me I needed a new plan (coming from the OG EVO.) I had the Everything 450 plan. It gave me a few selections, including the same plan, so I chose it. Then it said I need to call Sprint.
I spent the next 45 minutes on the phone, while the CSR tried to figure out why it was telling her I needed a new plan, and it wouldn't let her transfer the service. Finally, after she said they had 3 people working on it, they figured out that Google Voice was the problem.
She said they'd have to "expire" my Google Voice account, and they weren't sure if I could keep the same GV number when I installed it on the new phone. I told them to go ahead, and it worked. I just installed GV, and it seems to be working fine, with my original number.
She said they'd look into why Google Voice was causing a problem.
Not just you
I also had my evo LTE switched with another persons, it just so happened that that other person was my sister who was sitting next to me getting her phone activated. When she was on the phone with the call center to activate it I noticed all of a sudden "my phone" was activated with her number.

I had the same thing happen to me. I guess when they were verifying the patent they didn't make sure they put the devices back in the correct box. Spent 4 hours with sprint, and 5 different people before they figured out what was going on.
They never told me that they couldn't swap the devices, it was pretty easy once they figured out what had happened. Now it is fully functional
if you were paying attention, and they made you enter a code to edit your MSN, the code they gave you was your MSL. i had a lady tell me three times she couldn't give me my MSL, then followed it with 'now, enter your MSL, it's blah blah blah.' when i asked if the number she just gave me was in fact my MSL, she said 'hold on, you need to speak with my supervisor', then hung up.
that number will make everything easier. i've never had an issue getting it on my other phones, but apparently something has changed . she was adamant about not giving it to me, until she had to.
I thought you had to wait x amount of days before they can just give it to you

[Q] Anyone else having issues with GPS and Google Maps?

I have been noticing that my Google Maps has been crashing on me every time I open it fresh out of memory. I sent a report to Google waiting for an update. I updated to the newest version; I downgraded; I rebooted the phone; tried it on 3G and WiFi; and did different combinations of Locations settings. All the same results. The GPS radio animation comes on and the radius is slightly off and wide. I tried the GassBuddy app, which has a map feature, and the errors are more pronounced. Only good side is this app doesn't crash like Google Maps.
Could this be a defect with my unit? If so, I want a replacement!
Or could this be a firmware issue?
Update...
Short version
After almost 3 hours of talking to different Sprint departments and one repair store over the phone, I was finally able to get a replacement phone. Now the waiting game
Long version
After doing some research, I decided to install an app called GPS Test. I was able to clear and update the AGPS data. Rebooted and opened up Google Maps, and still the same inaccurate location and wide radius, and freezing and ultimately crashing.
As a last resort I did a "Factory data reset", erasing everything I had customized and installed... to no avail. Still the same darn issue, leading me to finally call Spring Customer Care. After telling them and a supervisor that the "nearest" Sprint repair store is too far away for me to visit to have my phone physically looked at (I take public trans and the nearest one would have taken me over an hour to get to), they finally connected me to a Sprint technician.
The Sprint technician was so Yeah that was the face I made. He told to power off my phone and take off my battery. I was like, "Uh... the battery is not removable (at least easily)". And he was like, "Oh it's not. Okay just turn it off". He also said that in order to go to the settings menu, I needed to press the "Menu" button. THE MENU BUTTON! He clearly hasn't been trained with the new HTC EVO 4G LTE, since these phones and native ICS devices don't have menu buttons anymore. I Already knew what type I was dealing with.
He called me back after pushing something over the air on my phone. It updated some profile thing and some other network settings. I thought... great! Maybe that's all it needed.... Nope. Opened Google Maps and same thing happened. GPS not locking and Maps freezing.
At this point, I was 100% convinced that this was a hardware issue unique to my phone. I have been searching online at other forums, and judging by the lack of replies to this post, I'm the only one having issues with this particular HTC model. The technician was convinced that a Sprint repair store will solve the problem. He told me that I needed to take it to a repair store and have it looked at. I told him it's too far of a commute for me. I highly doubt they have the phone on hand, and I doubt they will somehow be able to magically fix a hardware issue. He insisted otherwise anyway and said that he created a ticket for me to explain the issue.
Frustrated, I called the "nearest" Sprint repair store and, once again, explained what's going on and what I've done so far. Again, like all of the other people I talked to, she was like, "Wow, you have the new EVO 4G LTE phone. That's so cool." I rolled my eyes, thinking give me a darn replacement phone... She proceeded to tell me that they don't have those phones in stock (OMG NO SURPRISE) and they don't have any software that would be able to troubleshoot that phone. If they did, they would have done an exchange. So even if I had gone there, I would have just wasted my time. She advised me to call Sprint Customer Care... AGAIN.
Called Customer Care again, gave them the rundown of all the runaround I'm going through, and the guy who picked up said that they understand about my issue, but he advised me that the best way would be to go about this was to go to try another Sprint store... And I'm thinking, wow, so you want me to try a different store that's even further from me, and you honestly think they'll have this phone in stock let alone software to troubleshoot it. I told him um, I highly doubt any other store will give me a different result.
After talking some sense into him, he finally had me talk to an even higher supervisor of some sort. The manager/supervisor said, "Yeah you would need to bring it back to the original store you bought it from... You bought it at RadioShack right?" And I was like "No. no. no. I bought my new phone online, via Sprint? I pre-ordered it. I got my OLD EVO 2 years ago from RadioShack, but not this." He was like, " oh okay I can see that." He finally said that he'll be able to connect me to some Order Processing department. I'm thinking, this better be the final line...
Nope. I was transferred and I was told by this new guy he knew the issue with my phone. He understands that because the technician had deemed it a hardware issue, that he would be able to get my problem resolved. He put yet again on hold, because he was trying to contact the last department, I wanna call it, JUST-GET-ME-REPLACEMENT-PHONE department. After 10 minutes of holding, a very-important-sounding told me that he apologized that I was having issues. He wanted to make sure everybody is enjoying their devices with no interruption. I'm thinking, YES! GIVE ME NON-DEFECTIVE DEVICE please!
After talking with this important guy, he finally assured me that they will be processing a return kit and a replacement phone to be shipped to me. He did say that because the HTC EVO 4G LTE is still not officially out, that I may expect delays. Great... even more waiting.
Did you try ##GPSCLR# or is it ##CLRGPS# one of those two. You need your MSL.
Tried ##CLRGPSX# . Nothing popped up. I tried downloading MSL reader but these types of apps require root. Like I mentioned I used an app called GPS Tools which have options to cler GPS data, but still the same.
At this point I think I've tried every practical steps to try to diagnose and resolvthe issue. I paid over $200 to get this device up and running. If I'm gonna be stuck with it for the next 2 years, I think I deserve all of the promised basic features to be working from day one. No relying on rooting and downloading or applying a third-party fix.
I was just unlucky.
Call sprint to get your msl number. You got the letters mixed up. It's ##gpsclrx#
Sent from my lair.
Thanks for the advise guys. Although I could have bothered to get in touch with Sprint for the millionth time to get my MSL, I decided to just wait for my replacement phone. I wasn't going to hassle them anymore than I have already, and nor was I going to bother rooting the defective item. As much I love rooting and flashing new roms (Mik fan) on my OG Evo, I think I'm going to wait a while to do it on this EvoLTE.
Good news is it came today. Even though they kept saying there's been a hold on the shipment and they have no idea when it would ship out, Sprint shipped it overnight over UPS Tuesday night, and I got it today at 9:30 am Pacific Time. Thank you Sprint! Must be partly due to the fact that the ban was officially lifted.
Genuinely glad I made that move, though. For the indoor test: I used GPS Test app on my replacement phone and the GPS service starts up a whole faster. It's able to connect to more and satellites and therefore get accuracy of up to 20-30 feet. Comparing that to the first phone that would take at least 20 seconds to latch on, and take another 30 seconds to connect to more than 4 satellites. And even then, it would only get an accuracy of at most 90 feet, most of the time it was just way off.
In terms of the Google Maps app, there is no doubt that Google needs to update it for the EVO LTE because there are still some bugs, but alas I don't get it freezing on me anymore while GPS service tries to locate me and eventually crash.
Outdoor test, I get all of these goodies, but 5x faster. Definitely happy I made the switch. I'm new to this city and I need my Maps to be working at all times!
Peace.
Google Maps was updated today. I was having tons of issues with Google Maps, but after today's update it is working 100%!! **** YEAH!!

[Q] Ticket started-Not recieving text/calls

I cannot recieve texts or calls. Making calls and sending texts work perfect, even data works fine. I am unlocked and rooted, but everything else is factory stock.
For kicks and grins, I run "fix permissions" in TWRP. I've had the phone for 12 days and this problem just started yesterday evening (6/12/2012).
I called Sprint, they did everything they could, and they started a ticket for the "engineers." Said they would get a hold of me within 72 hours. Sprint said it was a network problem and not my phone, but I don't think she found any "outages" .
However, I am wondering if I should relock and unroot, or if that even makes a difference? I don't see how it could, but wanted advice from the community.
And, Has anyone had this problem, any other advice anyone has i would be much appreciative to hear it..???
edit: I was in my 14 days so I went up to my local Sprint store and they said that the Sprint CS should never have started a ticket, I should just exchange for a new phone, so I went home and relocked, run RUU and went back and exchanged. And the new phone works fine!!! It was not the network. Just wanted to tell you my experience.
Me and John over at GoodandEVO had the same issue, ours was a google voice integration issue (we're assuming)
uninstall google voice
go to google.com/voice, settings de-integrate
call from a landline, see if suddenly you're not getting calls
wait 15 minutes
re-integrate
wait a couple of minutes
install google voice on the phone
bam
that either fixed it for both of of or it was a freaking random occurance.
Yeah I've also had issues in the past with google voice such as prompting me to press one to take a call. I imagine as said it can be fixed on the gv website

My girlfriend has a similar issue with her evo 3d. She doesn't receive texts from non sprint customers. I was told by tech support they were doing upgrades in the area and they have been having a few issues like this. He opened a case with the engineers for her as well. Maybe they are upgrading you area as well?
i read the article at Good and Evo. I've never used Google voice though. That is an awesome site!! I went to that site you referred to . It doesnt have the "de-Integrate" option. It does have "activate" though. Like i said, i've never used google voice. so it looks like that isn't it???

That is interesting. I hope it is something as simple as this. How long did that take before her phone was working properly? they told me that engineers would be in touch with me within 72 hrs! That is a long time with a messed up network!

Well yesterday was 72hrs but sprint did call and say they found and are fixing the issue and that she should be getting another call when it is fixed for her to test and make sure its fixed. If it isn't fixed but tomorrow morning I'll be giving them a call again.

How much is this going to cost me to replace?

First, some back story:
On Monday, I attempted to do a profile update. The update failed, and I lost data, texts, and voice. All subsequent attempts to update my profile resulted in either a vDM Client crash or an error 1012, which means that my phone has no credentials on Sprint's network. PRL updates result in the same error.
I have gotten data back, and I can make calls and send texts, but I do not receive calls or texts; if I ever get a text, I'll get it almost literally a day later than it was sent. The only time I receive these texts, I'm roaming.
Usually the solution to this would probably be fairly simple: just use EPST to reset my data profile, or run an RUU. Well, two problems there:
1) EPST does not work. At all. Typing in ANY of the codes does absolutely nothing. I tried it stock (which I have been since I got the phone), and I then rooted and tried other .apks, and then I RUU'd and tried again. Still nothing.
2) The RUU didn't fix my issue; I still cannot complete a profile update or receive calls or texts.
I'm leaving for college in Maryland on the 16th of August, so I need to get this straightened away. I'm going to be too far away from home to have to deal with not getting calls or texts.
I purchased the phone for full, off contract price through Sprint at the beginning of June, since I didn't have an upgrade available. I do not have insurance on the device, and I didn't think to get it because I've never damaged a phone or had problems with a phone before.
At this point I'm convinced that I'll need to get a replacement. The only thing I worry about is how much they'll try to charge me for the replacement. I hope it isn't too much, because this was a fault of their network and not something that I caused. And, since I'm going to college in a month, I don't really have a lot of money to use on a cellphone.
So, to anybody who has had to exchange the phone for a replacement, what kind of fees am I looking at in order to get this fixed?
I had the same problem on my evo lte and on my s3 apparently meid on my number switched my s3 was screwed up called sprint it was on there side for the mix problem they sent me a data reset to my phone fixed the meids apparently and I got everything working back as soon as the phone rebooted give them a call and ask them to reset your phone and fix it on there side

I've already gone through a phone call, and they weren't able to figure it out. It sounds like you had the exact problem that I'm having though. Maybe another call will solve the problem.
Yeah did I got the same error code lol check if your phone number is correct first and then ask them to reset it for you I have to do some pound thing then enter a code that sprint only knew then they fixed it on there end apparently they were receiving I was connected to them but it was sending back from Sprints side

did u get that fixed bro???
Haven't called yet. I'm going to be too busy to really need a phone the next couple of days, and then I'll call after that.
I got a few text messages on time, maybe things are improving.
