Help n advice needed on x10i problem... - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Usually i will go to this forum to search for an answers of my problems without need to post something. For now, i really need help n advice as this problem getting me mad day to day. Its hard for me to explain in details but i'll try my best. Details are as below:
Device: X10i (singapore set, brand singtel -as from service menu-
Using it in malaysia, using celcom 3G.
problems: getting hot easily when using 3g and constant reboot.
symptoms;
1. When charging, temp easily rise up to 41-42 degree celcius. Regardless using wcdma or gsm only.
2. While connected to the net using 3G, easily get "self reeboot" whereby;
a) while charging, browse the website, especially when scrolling the page while it is still loading -95% of the time-
b) browsing the net on computers using phones 3g signal(using pdanet usb tether) -99% of the time-
c) doing all of the above after reinstall using SEUS -95% self reboot-
d) browsing the net while not charging -80% self reboot-
e) not browsing the net but phone set to use wcdma only and doing some simple tasks such as messaging -35% self reboot-
f) use gsm only and doing some simple tasks -5% self reboot-
g) browsing the net using wifi and phone set to use gsm only -not made the phone reboot even once so far, since bought the phone 2 months ago-
Any idea on whats wrong with this phone? Any suggestion on how to fix it? Any reply and help are really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Take it back to where ever you got it from. Refund / exchange......
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

Exactly. I would't suffer through that for more than a day or two
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

Refund/exchange is doable n not impossible but a bit hard since this phone is from singapore n i'm in malaysia (borneo to be exact) atm. Furthermore, i would like to know whats the culprit behind this self reboot problem so that i wont sent out this set for repair/refund/exchange without knowing whats the exact problem and might prevent from being overcharged for something that is not broken, or the worst, they will blame me and charged me. But i might try to send it for repair if the problem getting worst. Hope this town have sony centre nearby or at least shop that can repair it tho.

Run seus or PCC and repair, or update your phone if it needs it.

Thanks for the replies.
Update using SEUS - done 2 times so far.
Repair using PPC - Done 3 times previously.

I've read on here somewhere that tethering does make the phone run hot.. Not done it myself so not entirely sure.. What's it like when not tethered?
Sent from my x10 using XDA and swype.

Probs arise even while not tethering... even just entering the menu can made it self reboot and it once self reboot while im charging it and leave it there doing nothing, not even touching it. It seems that, as long as i set my phone to use wcdma only, and the temp is higher than 40 degree celcius, it will self restart randomly. Some friend of mine that know a bit on electronic and know how to repair some phone suggesting that it has something to with my battery tho i dont have any spare battery to test it atm and not confident enough on his words to invest in buying one new battery.

I too had the exact same problem with my Xperia X10. Tried everything possible by re-flashing the firmware, trying every possible permutation and combination of which apps to install and which not to install. Gradually after 1 month the restarts become more frequent. At last failing all my efforts yesterday I gave it to SE service center for repair within my warranty period.
Most probably the continuous restarts are a result of faulty motherboard. Most of the Xperia X10 on that SE service center needed a motherboard replacement after this restart problems.
I am almost sure that this is a hardware problem so don't try to fix it yourself as its a result of faulty motherboard.

I think too that your phone has a hardwaredefect.
The only other thing i can think of is your simcard. Xperia Series are incompatible to some Simcards.can you try another one just for testing?
If all is good with another sim then let your provider change your sim.
I had similar problems after switching from o2 germany to eplus germany. Eplus send me a new sim and the problems are gone.

I do hope it wont be a mobo probs. Right now, it has been 1 day 14hours running without reboot with heavy usage and web browsing using wifi and phone set to use gsm only. I'm amost sure my device probs is overheat while using wcdma signal regardless there is heavy net activities or not. Later i will try to use another 3g sim card and see how it is. Thanks for advice guys. Appreciate it very much..

and then?.... how it works or not with a sim change?

[Q] Random Reboots?

Have you guys ever experienced your x10 randomly restarting itself? Sometimes when I'm talking on the phone or just have my phone lying on my bed, it just restarts itself. I doesn't bother me too much since it isn't that frequent, but it pisses me off when it does restarts while I am on the phone...
Does anyone know why it does this and how it can be prevented?
Hi shukla,
I've got exactly the same problem! Which firmware is on your phone? I've got the 026 on my X10i. I think it's the firmware or the new root method?!
If I'll find some time this week I would like to try some things out...Some other experienced that problems, too?
Regards,
Martin
I've had random reboots as well running 26 firmware (using the 3 step root method) thankfully never during a call last time was while in Toronto this past Saturday taking pictures with Vignette.
I'm on 024 (rooted).
I think I was wrong with my thoughts. Today I've read a lot about our problem with rebooting. Seems it is the Sony backup application. It is randomly accessing the SIM card and thats the reason why our phones crashes. Right now I am going to flash my phone again. I'll tell you some more details after flashing is done.
Ok, well it's not easy to fix that problem. Yesterday I flashed my X10 about 6 times. With original SEUS firmware and the problem still appears. Then I flashed with 026 debranded firmware. After that I rooted my phone with the doshaska.net method. After that I removed the restore/backup app from /system/app. The problem still appears till now - but not so often. In fact, I had reboots every minute, so my phone didn't came up. I really don't have a clue why it happen. Someone else got an idea?
Regards ,
Martin
The only way I could stop mine from rebooting was to remove SetCPU. Are you using it? If so, feeze it or remove it and see how it goes. I do have another problem now with the damn screen not sleeping unless i push the power button! Oh well, the joy of fiddling
Nothing out of the usual battery dain yet. I am running the branded Dutch t- mobile firmware. I'm going to root it soon.

alright i found the solution myself...this post is just to help others
flashing did not solve my problem at all, through SEUS or rooting method nope the problem didn't go
finally i removed my memory card and everything was fine
some things on memory card could cause reboot during calls or randomly, next time try formatting your memory card
hope it help someone
cheers!
luv my x10 though i ve also got iphone but i ve never looked back
Just curious, how hot is everyone's phone when it reboots? I've noticed my x10 doing the same when its running a little warm. It usually starts acting up when it's over 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Gitin thx..it looks much better now, however yeasterday I was carrying my x10(still with no memory card in it) in the pocket, it got pretty hot (most probably over 38 degrees) and it turned into this rebooting "mode"..finally I left battery for 20 minutes in cold place..x10 got back to normal..I think that random reboots are the matter of memory card issue (You have solved this problem) or/and overheating of battery - still couldnt find any clue how to ease this pain but read somewhere that Froyo for x10 will have this problem taken care of..
i think ( depends on my experiences) the telephone need to reboot coz one applications from SD card want to launch (send or receive) some commands from or to internal (built in memory).
that's means this applications needs to move temporary to internal memory just to execute this command so absolutely android system will restart to create virtual memory to this application to let it runs correctly
first it's better to remove backup/restore programs or make its runs manually, if you have another software need to save data to SD memory ,remove it.
it's better to launch applications directly from internal memory to win the time and performance but At the expense of the memory size
ps: all that explanations depend on the framework version.
sorry for complex explain but i don't have easy way to explain this problems
i suddenly have it now to, first every hour, now every 5 minutes, my phone won't start up anymore
sorry..bad news..its pretty cold here in Poland so battery shouldnt turn to hot that easily but apparently the problem is more serious..I have to admit that random reboots occur less frequently than before but that **** still hapens to my x10..after no more than 2 days I had gotten memory card removed it got back to malfunctioning again..
it really pisses me off that I cant enjoy this phone anymore..
android 2.1 or higher is my only hope..
if anybody solved that issue entirely..please, dont be shy, do not hesitate..help us, please!

i too am hanging on for the 2.1 update to hope it solves the problem. I've a feeling there's going to be a lot of x10s going into SE for a service though when it is released and doesn't solve the problem!
I'm not 100% but is this problem the entire phone powering down, or just the connection to your network, mine just loses its network connection and then connects again, over and over ........
there's nothing 2.1 update will do
as our phone was working fine when v bought it, its completely a hardware fault
ok do this...
1.take out sim
2.format ur memory card
3.repair through SEUS or root process watever..
4.turn on ur x10 without sim and leaving formatted card inside
it will still give u hard time u can try putting some video on ur memory card and try to play it few times, ur x10 will turn off and wont turn on until u take out battery for few seconds or take ur x10 in front of Air-Conditioner
as someone suggested in rooting thread to keep ur x10 in front of air-conditioner if u get errors while rooting or if rooting process stucks in middle
the same thing applies in our case...try using ur phone in front of A-Con it wont turn off
i tried with a new battery ...still the same
as i ve been repairing mobile phone from last 5 years, i opened my x10, took out the motherboard, took out all plates over IC's, cpu and cleaned it with acetone properly and heated cpu and whole board with Hot Air Gun...everybody who repairs mobile phones knows what i am talking about
still its the same....
still i am not saying i know everything, anybody knows what the problem is and suggest the overcome is most welcome
nxt few months gonna b really cold at my place...i definitely think i'll notice a difference as its really hot these days which is causing my x10 to die
I did experience this when I debranded my AT&T X10. I have since gone back to the AT&T ROM and have not had this issue since. My battery life has also improved. I did root and remove all the AT&T bloatware. I also edited settings.db to allow for installing non-market apps. This phone is very fast and smooth now with almost no glitches at all.
mine won't even work anymore..once per every 20 or 30 times and than it turns off itself very quick..I can't recharge battery, nothing..really hope that 2.1 will help somehow..I am thinking of getting back to very first soft that x10 was launched with..seriously I am sickin tired with that ****..

Hi, I have an AT&T X10 and wonder what you debranded your phone to? I debranded mine about a week after I got it to R2BA026 Latin America and never had any issue with rebooting.
Aside from needing to power off the phone to check for software updates (two weeks ago of course ) my phone has been up for +358 hours without an issue, and that's with installing the AmbientTime home screen several days ago.

Constant reboots on 2.1 ?

Repaired the phone twice and still getting constant reboots its ver annoying, anyone else had this issue moving to nordic 2.1 [UK] keeps happening when trying to download from market mostly at the moment
same problem, havent found fix yet
EDIT: only seems to happen when trying to enter "Downloads" section of market

I'm on global rom now, didn't seem to fix the problem. Tho using the phone but staying away from crash causing market while searching internets for a solution. And time seems to have fixed the problem, phone only seems to crash and reboot now if I stress it
Problem not fixed, but is quite rare now. Tho still don't know what it was or is

reboots while on GPS
It doesnt allow me to start the GPS hardware. If I disable the GPS hardware and start gmaps it works fine but when the GPS is enabled and the moment I enter the GMaps the small icon blinks for a bit and the phone reboots.
any clues ?
i think we all are facing similar problem
i had posted the following on this thread -

"i am facing the same issue...a workaround is to remove the battery, sim and sd card for 5 minutes and then put them all back and start
although the phone starts sometimes when i connect to my computer or try to restore the backup it gets into the loop again"

Have the same problem. When I open Navigation Software, it works fine. When I turn on the GPS Satellite it reboots itself.
No ideas?
I no longer have the jit hack, but I remember reading in the thread that once your memory goes under a certain percentage it reboots. So they suggested using a task killer.
just fyi^^

Tho I notice when I kill apps, it kills my phone signal then reconnects. Any idea on what I need to exclude to stop that?

Anyone found a good fix for this I cant even open a game or GPS for longer than a min, just froze and reboot on a phone call and had to leave the battery out for a bit, this has been going on for ages now and getting worse and hotter. Only just got it back from SE Repair yesterday with a software reflash despite me stating in the letter that does not fix the issue, argues half the day with SE girl who said they wont replace any parts on 1st or second return even if they know there is a problem with it, i ended up loosing it a little. Very poor from a big company, send an email yesterday to SE main office and complaints, no reply either. The shop wont replace as its been 5 months says its SE's problem, but my phone is essentially becoming a paper weight
What annoys me most is a bought a webcam over a year ago from ebay and now its buggerd 1 email to microsoft tech support and they are sending a replacement out no need to send back the current one. Came as an open box purchase and everything, but when you pay for expensive hardware thats faulty the company has no interest in a propper repair/replace
It was a problem of power management chip and power path problem probably too little vias or whatnot. You need to get it fixed at the stealer for the main board replacement. Reflashing your device won't work at all. And you have to refrain from using cpu intensive app like robo defense and charging the device at the same time.

Does Downgrading back to 1.6 or changing the battery solve the overheats and restarts

Not gunna go into much detail here. I'm sure most people have heard o the motherboard bug which causes the sony ericsson to over heat and reboot as soon as it is turned on and things like that. This problem only started for me when I updated to 2.1. Would downgrading to 1.6therefore stop the reboots because I never got even 1 before. Would changin the battery to a diferent one stop overheating o the battery. Maybe there is a battery specialized or this. Maybe a mugen battery would work? Help greatly appreciated. thanks in advance
I dont think so, i had the same problem and tried everything, last thing was getting the new one, and now i can do anything, and no reboot, i think u should go to SonyEricson and tell them about your problem, they will give you back your phone for about 3 times, then when your problem still persist they will give you a new device or they will change motherboard,
Good Luck (and sorry for bad english ^_^)
Out of Warranty Cant be bothered to explain why. Getting it repaired would cost a lot. CoulD I repair it myself?
your best bet it to use advanced task killer app
sent from my X10 using my wicked awesome premium xda app
I do use that app but 90 percent of the time I cant get my phone on long enough to even think about using it
have you tried reflashing the rom, via repair option on SEUS, or even Flashing a custom rom?
sent from my X10 using my wicked awesome premium xda app
yep didnt work
has anyone tried the downgrading or battery change method that can enlighten me as to wheether it will work or not. Or at least significantly reduce the reboots so I can actually use the phone

Yes i think some thing inside the rom could help. One of my friend have X10 with mainboard bug like u. But as i sure in xrecovery it never reboot even you flash a rom sooooo....it should be something inside the room or kernel
sorry i dont really understand what you want me to do :S ????
just downgraded to 1.6. Still rebooting but not as much. Not every minute anymore. It like every few minutes. Im at a loss here there must be something I can do. Warranty and paying to change the motherboard is not an option
I had the same problem, tried everything but my phone only worked when I was using it in cold places, or in front of a fan. The problem started to become worse gradually, it started playing games, then in a few minutes of light use... and then every minute. Had to flash to stock rom in front of a fan to use the warranty.
You cannot do much, unless you use the warranty you'll stand with a dead phone for now.
Isnt there a way I could like open up my phone and do something to it to make it work? There must be something out there that will work.
what if i put the phone and battery in the freezer for a day or a few. maybe it could at least stop the overheating for at leastt a few days? i wouldnt mind doing this every few days

It will work for a few minutes, once your start to use the phone, the battery will start to heat, and then it will reboot once it reach its threeshold.
I highly suggest you to try to repair it in any sony center, or at least check the price to fix it. As far as I know, you can't do anything to at least remedy it. You won't be able to use your phone well. I experienced it and tried everything it came to my mind to at least use the phone well for a few days before I gave up and sent it to the repair center.
Out of warranty and would be like 100 quid to get motherboard replaced. (sorry about caps lock) there must be something that no one has thought of
Of there is of course a problem with asking for solutions that no one has thought of....
Sorry for the cheap shot. I do have sympathy as I have the same issue, although to a much lesser extent. Got a new battery and it made no difference. Went into a phone shop today and had a chat. Although I was not 100% convinced about the guy in there he showed me another X10 that smelled the same as mine and he said it did reboot. Anyway for £15 he says he can reflash the stock ROM using a special box. He seemed convinced it was software related so I may give it a go. It is very strange that I can put the phone into xRecovery when the phone is rebooting and it is stable.
However I think your best bet is to sell your phone and get another. Not sure how much a spares/repairs X10 goes for but I can recommend the ZTE Blade as a good, cheap Android phone with a strong support over a MoDaCo. If you do this you should not be to much out of pocket.
dont really want a different phone. Lilke I said there must be something that someone knows :S
if theres no solution anyone knows, does anyone know where I can buy an xperia 10 PCB so I can dissassemble my phone and change the PCBs myself
Get insurance and lose the phone.

[Q] Restarts.

I have bought xps about 20 days ago. Yesterday and today , while I was surfing the net via wifi (both times) , my phone suddenly switched off and made a restart. Did anyone experience a problem like this ?? It never happened before.
Not had that problem - infact I was just thinking today that I haven't restarted my phone for a week.. and it still feels super smooth... which I've never experienced before on Android!
Never had a sudden restart, lag or unresponsive device. Seems that you are the only one here with such a luck...
Is this a reason for returning my phone to Sony? Is sony obliged to replace my device with another one?

Unfortunately sudden restarts are very common in the android world. I think 80% of the android smartphones had at least once this problem. You should wait to see if it happen again and if so try a hard reset or a software repair using sony pc companion. If it will become a common problem even with other users sony with a future update it will fix the problem. What software version do you have .62 .67 or .73 ?
Hi,
If you have this reboot issue
Nothing can resolve this!
But,just in case
Do not use your phone with charger pluged in for long time!
This kill your battery very quick!
And cause autoreboot
And be careful with internet!
If you flash some FW or rom or kernel
Made a full charge before flash

I've had this happen to me on my Xperia S twice already while using it.
It also randomly restarts while in standby once in awhile.
Not sure what's causing this. Any suggestions?

If it's not happening very offen like twice a day, the only thing you can do is wait for the 4.0 update, because If you look in all the other android smartphone forums you will see that every android model have this issue from time to time. I think is something like the Windows OS bluescreen...very very difficult for normal users to detect where is the problem. I think with the 4.0 update the problem it will be solved. But if the Xperia S become unstable and randomly rebooting every day try a software repair with pc companion and if this is not solving the problem just go to a Sony support center and give them the smartphone for replacement.
I have the reboot twice
Refresh ROM good!
Hi, my phone also has random restarts. It becomes sluggish and unresponsive, then just restarts.
I think mine has done it once or twice when just in standby mode as well.
I actually got my first Xperia S replaced as it had this problem, but the replacement is also suffering from it.
Seen a few other people saying they have the same over on the Sony forums, so I think its a software problem somewhere.

I have .73. I didn't flash my device nor I use it when charges(and I don't let it charging for hours).
I think that there was not enough RAM at that time but I am not sure. I'll have to check it out.
I just experienced the same problem not too long ago. I was web browsing and my phone crashed and rebooted on it's own. I'm on the phone with Sony right now because I have the youtube issue as well. This sounds like a software issue.
Had mine since March 6. So far only one random reboot, none since update to 6.0.A.5.6

I called Sony Mobile Canada to report this issue. I told her others are having this issue as well. She's going to escalate it. I would like to encourage everyone who's having this problem to call Sony tech support in your Country and let them be aware of this issue. The more people call about this issue, just maybe they will work on a software fix sooner rather than later. Strength in numbers!
No restart on mine
I heavy use internet 3G/wifi on it
But,
I never flash anything on mine with flashtool or seus or pcc
Pure stock FW.67
12w14
AAD-AV
Only 2 "big" issue
Phone freeze one time
when plug charger in
VolumeUp+power solve the bug,
And the yellow tint on the screen.
Normally, when the phone keep autoreboot,or autopowerOff
It is caused by a dead battery
You can identify it
by keep hold power when the phone restart by itself
and at reboot
If the led blink 3 time red when holding power
That's indicated battery die
Or made a battery test in service *#*#7378423#*#*
But your phone is new !
So try a full charge with reset battery to get best power (volumeUp + power 5second one vibrate)
If your phone is rooted
you can delete manualy "power_supply"
in sys/class and reboot
with charger pluged in
After that,
try a full restore with seus with wipe data ect..
Can't help more :-(

I encounter some restart and finally
Kill my battery
And nothing resolve this reboot on it!
I used the phone alway pluged and it come hot like *****!
And some people and dev said
MADE A FULL CHARGE BEFORE FLASH
This mean to avoid battery problem
But you!
What you suggest?
I just try to help or give some tips
And finally read the manual of your phone!
Especially battery section!
which browser you was using? and did that happen while downloading or just while browsing? and for how long you already was connected to wifi before the restart?

What has random freeze to do with battery?
What you are telling is another section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25402228
Here you go.
Of course it getting hot.
Power means heat...
Logic.
This isnt a overclocked pc with grammacs core mg..
Kills battery and reboot. Right. Your right.
You go from a to z.
Do you even know what you are talking about?
He says freeze with browser bla bla, you begin with battery...
Nvm.
Good luck in your life

[Q] Frustrated with desire x

I have posted before too on this issue of random reboots on desire x. It seems that i am the only one who have faced random reboot problem multiple times a day( varies between 1-10).
Now i would like to explain my issue in detail. These restarts DOES NOT occur when i am using the phone and running multitude of apps.
It only occurs when the phone is lying idle or when charging. Sometimes it reboots with white HTC screen while sometimes it gets stuck on a black screen( not switched off), in latter case i have to long press the power button to reboot it again. I can't even leave my phone alone while charging because it may crash which will result in missed calls and messages. The phone worked fine for first 4 months of purchase so may not be hardware related. I did upgrade my software twice from 1.18.401(factory) to 1.18.720 . the latest update was 1 week before the problem started.
I did not spent my $400(Indian price) on buying a buggy phone which bothers me and left me wondering why is it behaving so strangely.
The trouble shooting i performed in last month includes -
FACTORY RESETTING 5 TIMES
RUNNING PHONE WITHOUT SD CARD
RUNNING WITHOUT ANY APPS INSTALLED
PUTTING A WEDGE ALONG BATTERY TO ENSURE GOOD CONNECTION
SCRUBBING BATTERY AND PHONE CONTACTS
USING PHONE ON SEVERAL SIM CARDS
The problem may be network related, i don't know.
I am so disappointed in HTC. Is anybody here on software version 1.18.720 and not facing problem of reboots. If the update is faulty HTC should come up with another one.
I am on a sabbatical and 300 miles far from nearest service station for another month. It makes no sense to cover 300 miles and spend hell lotta money just to get this goddamned thing serviced. My last hopes are on Jelly Bean update to solve this problem which seems to take forever in coming to Asia. Is there any way to go back to 1.18.401 which came natively with my phone or some other way to resolve it.
Thank You
Get it replaced in Warranty. THE JB UPDATE WONT SOLVE THIS ISSUE. As it is specific to some users and not others, so its not a SOFTWARE issue. Its Hardware Fault. Get it replaced ASAP.

Let the warranty guys wonder why the issue happened. Its a costly thing, and warranty is EXACTLY for these type of situations. USE it.
Just save yourself the hassle and get it replaced like nexus suggested if you dig into what the causes are it will take a while because i tried to with an older htc device
Jb wont solve it, if its kinda similar to my problem described in your previous thread, motherboard change is the only option
thanx everybody . so that means i will live with this faulty device for sometime more till i go back to my work place n have access to service station

Thats awfuly bad luck... cant you send it via mail to service centre? In czech republic, there is this posibility (and we are around monkeys level here in whole smartphone situation).
I also have 720.3 but don't have such problem.
That's absolutely a hardware problem, take it to service center asap n dont wait for jb update.

YEA may be i can but that will take forever in India to get a proper response from main htc office/SC that is 3500 miles away. I will be in bangalore in may/june so will directly go the main service centre myself. Additionally I don't think they will replace the phone immediately so sending over mail will be useless if i get the same phone back with some temprory tweaking from their side.
I have 6 months of warranty left till November so if it goes bad let it be, my case will get stronger.
Can i flash my phone back to 1.18.420 myself without voiding warranty.?
In future i will think twice before going for HTC
i read somewhere in forums that android phones also need to cool down for sometime and periodic reboots or what they probably meant is switching off the phone for few mins is essential for long life of the phone but may be its just me

thats old desire trick called "put that brick into freezer", but it doesnt help in long term, youll have to cool it whole time youre using it
RANDOM REBOOTING devices with STOCK ROMs have FAULTY HARDWARE.
I phone shouldnt reboot on heat even with extreme use, and if it does, its faulty.
If you have custom roms or kernels, then it might be due to software issue, but on STOCK, its always HARDWARE.

You remember me about my old Mio A701 phone who started to behave strange for month or two... and after that the radio chip crashed...
Also it happend on my wife's LG phone that a little dirty (mettalic I think) on circuit inside right behind the power plug was able to freeze the phone and some times to restart.
So, if you tried all that things and the problem is not solved then it is a hardware problem! You have to disassemble the phone and repair it! Or go to service center (never I had).
its not a heat problem coz .i can use this device for prolonged sessions. only when the screen is off and network on it reboots
PS. when is jb coming to India
Try one more thing there is a app(don't know name) which can increase the minimum processor frequency
Try that out may be your CPU has very low min speed, don't sure about this but give it a try.
If that requires rooting then don't do it.
