Where I Am 4.2 - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

Small program for quick GPS locating. Just run it and it will copy GPS-coordinates or link to Google map with your location into your clipboard. After that you can paste it and send via SMS or some messenger.

[APP][18AUG09]GPS Location: Send your location via sms or email as Google Maps Link

What's the application about:
This application finds your location via GPS (provided you have an internal or external GPS).
Then you have the option to:
1. Send an SMS
2. Send an Email
3. Create a Note
4. Send to Clipboard
your location as just plain coordinates (40.089821,22.567634) (can be copied to maps.google.com search field)
or better as a Google Maps Link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&t=m&q=40.089821,22.567634)
or (New) as a Google Maps Mobile Link (http://www.google.com/gmm/x?action=BUSI&q=LAT,LONG).
5. (New) Scheduled SMS, Email sending or Http request on defined time interval.
The persons who receive your SMS or Email can click on the google maps link and they will directly see your location on google maps.
You can use Pocket Outlook or Flexmail as your email sending app. You can choose the account that will be used and you can a default recipient.
When sending the email you will be prompted to add a recipient. The default recipient you have set up will be proposed. You can change it or browse through your contacts to choose another email.
You can keep a note with your current location and add your own notes. Date and time automatically added in the note.
You can copy the location to the clipboard and paste it anywhere you want or you can just phone someone and tell him your location.
To setup a http request, for example http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40.000000,24.000000
then you would write in the settings http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%lat%,%long%
So if you're still on vacation why not send your location to your friends!!!
Version 1.2 beta 3 What's new (14/12/2009)
1. Fixed the scheduled http function
2. SMS 140 chars. There is a choice in the settings to send a cut SMS version that is around 137 to 140 chars.
Version 1.2 beta 1 What's new (23/11/2009)
1. Scheduled SMS, Email sending or Http request on defined time interval. Each of them can be enabled separately and have its own time interval.
2. Google Maps Mobile Link. You can choose to send a Google Maps Mobile Link by SMS. This links open only from a mobile device and cannot be opened from a desktop pc. So you should be careful when sending this type of link. If you are not sure if the other party can open this link than better send a Google Maps desktop link. (http://www.google.com/gmm/x?action=BUSI&q=LAT,LONG)
3. Send without editing. For both SMS and Email you have the option to send them without first editing them. The SMS program and email program will not open but they will be sent in the background.
4. Send without poping up Contact Screen. For both SMS and Email you have the option to send them without the Choose Contact screen opening. You have to set a predefined Recipient in the Settings.
5. Many internal changed to allow the scheduled SMS, Email and Http function be implemented.
Version 1.1a What's new (11/09/2009)
When you use "Microsoft Intermediate GPS Driver" and you press disconnect the app now closes the GPS. In v1.1 you should exit the program to close GPS.
Version 1.1 What's new (08/09/2009)
1. GPS Data. The app now uses "Microsoft Intermediate GPS Driver" to get the gps data. It's the default option. Works perfect, not laggy anymore. Should solve the problems some of you had connecting to GPS. For older devices (wm 2003) which don't support the driver, you can use the old method with the serial port. Choose it from the options.
2. SMS. Added Date and Time in the message when sending SMS
3. Email with Pocket Outlook. You can now edit the email before sending it. The option to send it without editing it, remains but you have to choose it in the options.
Things I have in mind to do next
1. Some graphics improvements for vga devices. (it's developed on my qvga)
2. Look if can get the pic from google maps and send it as MMS or Mail Attachment
Known Issues:
v1.0
When moving fast (in a car) then your location shown is about 5 seconds back. So when you stop somewhere it keeps refreshing till it reaches your current position. It takes about 5 secs (solved on v1.1).
Installation:
Just install the cab on the device or storage card. When upgrading then you have to install the app on the same location to keep the settings OR copy the settings.txt file to your new location.
Donation:
Anybody finds this app useful and would like to donate, you can do it through this paypal account:
reserved for future use (updates, etc.)
excellent man, thank you, i was waiting for an application like this for a long time....
Great App !
Now, if you do a better graphics, it will become a beautiful app
Awesome app! Cheers.
How about another option where it sends it as an MMS. You could make it open google maps on the phone, take a screen shot of the location then send the image via mms.
That would be sweeeet.
great app. +1 to the mms idea
This sounds Great. Would it be possible to use this as a phone finding tool?
Coool Application.Iphone like
Good and Great
A great we have this in our mobile it very improtant --so it sound good application --thank you
Can you make it send a .kml file as an email attachment? Then, as long as the recipient has google maps, opening the attachment will launch google maps with the location marked.
This works great on my T-Mobile USA Touch Pro 2, stock ROM, a very useful application. Thank you highway!
does what you say..
Tested on my BLACKSTONE (hd ,stock rom ) ,working very smooth..yeah..
does what you say (sms, etc..)
Bit unsure ,when i clicked on "connect " (to gps ) if it was in fact trying to ( would it not be good to have some form of indicator ,that it is ? )..,but hey very impressed..
thank you

Very nice! Thank you!

Works OK on my Sprint Touch Pro but ...
When you send an email, it puts the completed email in the outbox where it is sent automatically giving you no chance to edit the email. Other apps that send email open the email program with the mail composed allowing you to edit the outgoing email. Apparently the author has his email configured to not send email automatically.
Hi,
it is possible send position as Google Maps (PPC Version) favorite?
Open the coordinates without browser, but directly with Google Maps.

Highway - Good job ! it is a very useful application.
One small issue :
2nd settings page doesn't allow to choose Pocket Outlook main email account - the one sync'ed with ActiveSync / OTA.
It shows POP & IMAP email accounts but not the activesync one (I want to use to send the email with your app).
Thanks.

Update:
2/24/2011
- uploaded DecDeg2DecMin_Feb242011.zip. the xml files will now be saved in your Desktop PC's C:\xml folder
2/12/2011
- added option to send as email
when sending email, make sure your email is already setup and this uses email account 1 in your device
- added more interval time options (hour/day)
- saves sms and emails sent in \storage card\senymylocation\ folder
Very good, but... can you implement a "send via mail" option?

after setting it up and clicking on the "Start" you can exit from the scheduler app. no app will run in the background up until it reaches the specified time interval.

KML and XML Files directory
11. Use DecDeg2DecMin.exe, click on CONVERT
TO POINTS
12. Choose the KML file you just created from
Google Earth and it wil automatiacally
convert it to an XML file
13. Copy the XML file to your device's
\Storage Card\SendMyLocation\XML folder
14. Done!
Hi sir charlie. after clicking convert to points, where would the converted file go? the kml file say, saved on my desktop would disappear and searching on my directory, cant seem to find the file, also the converted xml file. (i guess they would have the same filename)
Great app!!
I noticed a pair of issues:
-Sometimes the app is not actioning. For example: the first time I installed the app (mail setting, 1 minute for testing purposes), only three times arrived the email with the coordinates. Soft reset and nothing, but open the app again, stopped the sender, restarted the sender, and It work fine, but not sure If this will happen another time.
-When my device is in sleep mode, at sending the email the screen turns on for few moments (in blank)
Requests:
Can you add a pair of thing for n0obs/lazy users like me? (they do not want to deal with xml files)
-The format of the coordinates in the email mesagge
Current:
2/22/11 2:54:23 AM @ No Data
LAT: 16.xxxxxxx, LON: -99.xxxxxxxx
Desired:
2/22/11 2:54:23 AM @ No Data
LAT/LON
16.xxxxxxx, -99.xxxxxxxx
This only for direct copy/paste this coordinates in
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
-Or even better: Can you add a clickeable link in the email, that positionates the location directly in Google Maps, via the default browser?
(I just tested it manually in Opera Mobile, and it works, but first need to access to "classic" site of Google Maps [not mobile])
Yes, there are a most advanced ways to use this useful app, but I think that in this way (positioning by means google maps, in the default browser PPC/PC) must be useful for noobs users like me
Best Regards

Sorry but I cannot see any XML folder, after conversion. I use a simple c:\temp\ folder in which I put "DecDeg2DecMin.exe" and the "filename.kml" (exported from Google Earth).
After pressing "Convert to POINTS" button, I select my filename.xml; then the program asks me if I want to convert another file (I answer "no"). Then the original "filename.kml" disappears and no xml file appears !

[Q] How do I share a link to a photo via a Google App thru my phone?

Yesterday I took a picture and wanted to send it to my brother. I wanted to send him a URL to an uploaded file so I could then share that URL with others in the future. I did not want to email a picture because, frankly, it's not as easy as pasting a URL in a GTalk window.
I spent about 10 minutes thinking of all the ways I could do this using Google services and couldn't find any way to do it on my phone. Here are the options I considered:
Option 1) Upload to Google Plus - but viewing the photo in G+ app doesn't provide a public link. SHaring option only presents your standard email, mms, etc. options.
Option 2) Upload to Picasa - but I get the same sharing options as G+ - no option to grab a link.
Option 3) Google Drive. This was the last option, but of course it only presents the same options as before. Now, I can create a public link when I'm at a computer, but not on my Android device.
So I ended up having to upload via the imgur app and just sending that link. I'm okay with that for now, but I'm already uploading to G+ automatically; why can't I just get a public url through the app?
That whole process was very disappointing. I wish Google would give us some way, any way, to share a file via URL through a Google App - specifically, Drive.
Does anyone know how to do it?
Dropbox can generate links, so after you can paste it =)

Thanks. Luckily that would solve it for any file type. I'm still just surprised that no Google apps have a way to do this. At least, none that I know of.
Yep, can generate links for any file. I recommend that put your files into Public directory (Photo directory could work, also).
Sounds like the consensus still is that Google apps have no way to generate a public URL to an image or file from your phone. That's disappointing.

[Q] Question about Transfer

Hi all,
I have a question,
Im using a smartphone Galaxy Alpha and also Tablet Galaxy Tab S both Connected on LTE.
Im a courier and i wanted to see if this would be possible somehow.
I have a list of orders where to go in my Gmail which is being send every morning.
Im currently using my tablet only so i open Gmail , open the email and click Navigate which opens a link http google maps, but i have it default so it opens a Route 66 Instead of google maps.
i was wondering if its possible somehow to open the Gmail or any email client on my smartfone and send the link to the tablet somehow so it opens a new navigation on the tablet as everytime i have to press recent key, click on gmail and click on the order in the email to open new navigation and its just pain in the but where if i would have my phone with the list of it , it would be open all the time and i would just click Navigate and it would send it to the tablet.
Thanks for helping.

I'm not understanding the exact problem you're presenting.
You use your phone to open the email and want to be able to open the navigation to your tablet without any extra work?

Have you tried NFC? You can touch two phones together and share certain things.
PM me so I can have you forward me an email so I can test out some methods to get that to work. You can delete personal stuff when you forward it just leave the link for the maps.

I could not get route 66 to run so I used Google maps.
Pair your devices via bluetooth.
- Open the directions in Maps
- Click the route you want to take
- Hit the three dots in the top right corner
- Hit share directions
- Hit bluetooth and select the other device
On the other device you have to accept it but you should be able to check "Always allow".
After it transfers, click on the notification, then the file and now it should load it on the tablet. It does seem lengthy but after you get used to it and use it for more than a day you'll be able to do it seemlessly.
Hope this helped.

Stock Calendar Map issue

In EMUI 9, stock Calendar app added "Map" button when creating a new appointment, to find the location.
However in order to work properly you need to press that button and find the location by scrolling and moving the map to the correct place. There is no search option to search for the location you want.
In addition, if you simply type the location you want and save the appointment, the "Show on Map" button in the event opens another app (amap) which does not work in Europe, so you cannot navigate there.
Does anyone have the same issue? Any solution to this, apart from using another app?
I have tested right now:
- I can create a new task without entering the location
- if I write the place name manually, I can't open it in the map, nothing is happening after pressing the location button
- if I select the place on the map, I can open it later in Firefox and Google Maps
IMO, stock Calendar app works good.
A pain in the ass work around is manually typing address in, then when you want to view it on map, click and long hold the address and it will open Google maps and search the address.
It sucks that it won't do it by default, but the weather information on the calendar/schedule needs the location set properly to pull weather data
But the Europe address seems to work for me

Thank you very much for your reply. Indeed your suggestion works, with one small tradeoff, the address should be put in English. If I put the address in Greek (my native language) it will not work. But for sure is better than nothing. Thank you very much

Correct, this is how it works, I would prefer though to have a search option on the map, instead of selecting it. But we will have to wait for Huawei to improve stock Calendar app for it. Thank you
