[Q] Question about Transfer - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have a question,
Im using a smartphone Galaxy Alpha and also Tablet Galaxy Tab S both Connected on LTE.
Im a courier and i wanted to see if this would be possible somehow.
I have a list of orders where to go in my Gmail which is being send every morning.
Im currently using my tablet only so i open Gmail , open the email and click Navigate which opens a link http google maps, but i have it default so it opens a Route 66 Instead of google maps.
i was wondering if its possible somehow to open the Gmail or any email client on my smartfone and send the link to the tablet somehow so it opens a new navigation on the tablet as everytime i have to press recent key, click on gmail and click on the order in the email to open new navigation and its just pain in the but where if i would have my phone with the list of it , it would be open all the time and i would just click Navigate and it would send it to the tablet.
Thanks for helping.

I'm not understanding the exact problem you're presenting.
You use your phone to open the email and want to be able to open the navigation to your tablet without any extra work?

yes, in phone i open gmail, in the gmail email i have a list of postcodes with Navigate button, when i click on it it opens http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=51.87603,-2.21719 which is maps but in android you can select which programs open it so i have it as default route 66 but thats not the issue.
i want to send this link to my tablet thru bluetooth. example,
on my phone i click navigate and it sends the link to my tablet and opens a navigation.

Have you tried NFC? You can touch two phones together and share certain things.
PM me so I can have you forward me an email so I can test out some methods to get that to work. You can delete personal stuff when you forward it just leave the link for the maps.

I thought about nfc as well but they have to touch each other and the phone and tablet will be next to each other. my tablet is build in the car dash and the phone is in a phone holder right next to it.
i will forward you the email but i just need you to pm me the email.

I could not get route 66 to run so I used Google maps.
Pair your devices via bluetooth.
- Open the directions in Maps
- Click the route you want to take
- Hit the three dots in the top right corner
- Hit share directions
- Hit bluetooth and select the other device
On the other device you have to accept it but you should be able to check "Always allow".
After it transfers, click on the notification, then the file and now it should load it on the tablet. It does seem lengthy but after you get used to it and use it for more than a day you'll be able to do it seemlessly.
Hope this helped.

[Q] Location field in calendar app

I previously had a Milestone and in the calendar app there any address I entered into the location field would be clickable and offer an option to open maps or navigate to it. In the samsung app I can add a location but it is not clickable. I have seen that you can open the map from the edit screen but this seems only to let you get a single map image rather than giving full functionality. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing?
Edit: I tried installing Jorte calendar and that has clickable address links working. When viewing the same event in both only Jorte allows me to click through.
Looking into this it seems the feature is simply missing from the samsung app rather than not activated and has been since the original galaxy. Is this something that can easily be modded?
I am needing this feature as well. When I had my captivate, stock did not have this but with the cognition rom it seemed to work. I don't know how it was modded to work. However, when I updated my captivate to the 2.2 stock firmware I897UCKB1, it had this feature. Now that I have a SGS2 its very disappointing that it doesn't have this again. I use the Clickable address location in calendar every day to get to appointments. It is so frustrating to have to open the appointment, edit the appointment, copy the address from location, hit home, open maps, hit search, paste the address, and hit search again while driving. This could all be done with one click if the location was clickable. I am willing to donate $15 to anyone able to give a solution using the SGS2 stock calendar app. Thanks.

The best i could think of is to do a search of the location before hand copy then copy the link to the description part on the calender entry. Also add the location snapshot (this is just a picture as you might have aready noticed). Now when the appointment pops up, just click the link(set it up to open with maps). This way you can getting the navigation running from the appointment itself.
add another one to the list of people who really need this feature.
i have just come from a year with a htc desire and its something i really miss.
This is a silly oversight. Something that other apps on the market implement without issue. I'm disappointed!

[INFO] Gmail.com Working URL

By default gmail.com displays as full desktop version which does not allow you to scroll. The mobile and html sites display bad as well.
Here is the link for the android / iPad gmail.
https://mail.google.com/mail/Mu
If it does not display logout, click the link, and login again.
im using the inbuilt email app myself, i find it really good and intuitive to use, the stock apps on webos all seem to be really high quality, shame it couldnt get its user base sooner :/
I get "unable to resolve host".
EDIT: Nevermind... I'm an idiot.
EDIT 2: Still doesn't let you scroll.
what's wrong with the built in email app it works just fine

Thanks for the information! I have been looking for a way to get a tablet interface for Gmail. I missed having threaded conversations and the other nice Gmail features.

It just loads the regular Gmail for me. I've tried logging out clicking the link and logging in and I've tried doing it by deleting cookies and cache.
Edit: Managed to get it to load the iPhone/Android (not iPad) version by putting the M in lowercase. Version isn't useful for me as it lacks the option to send from other accounts set up in Gmail. I'll try an older desktop version.
Edit: I suppose that my only option for now is using desktop Gmail and setting emails to 10 per page.

[GUIDE] To make push notifications work in facebook app

On reading this some may think it sounds stupid(as the original post says ) but believe me, this thing worked for me.
First up, you’ll have to head to the Blackberry developers’site. You’ll need to download two packages:
- Blackberry Device Simulator 7.0 (177MB)
- Blackberry Email and MDS Services Simulator Package (44.2MB)
The former contains the device emulator which includes the Facebook app, and the latter allows said emulator to connect to the internets. As a testament to how archaic parts of Research In Motion's site are, you’ll have to download an ‘Akamai NetSession Inferface Console’ plugin to get hold of the Email and MDS package, but that can be readily uninstalled when you’re done with it.
After you’ve installed the two packages, launch the emulator. It’ll be under Start/All Programs/Research In Motion/Blackberry Simulators 7.0.0/7.0.0.362 (9350)/9350. Launching this brings up a seemingly-useless blank command prompt window, followed by the emulator itself, which may need scaling depending on your PC’s screen size. It’ll take a wee while to load up, then boot you into the standard non-touchscreen Blackberry interface. Now you’re in business.
- 1. Firstly, grab your Android phone. Make sure you have the latest version of Facebook installed from the market.
- 2. Head to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications. Tap on Facebook, then clear cache and data. Set your Android phone aside.
- 3. Now jump back on the PC and get into the Blackberry emulator as outlined above. Use your mouse to click on the little Blackberry flag button twice, which will bring up the ‘app drawer’. Use the mouse to move the square D-pad to the Facebook icon, and click the D-pad to launch.
- 4. Sign in to Facebook on the Blackberry emulator with your regular details. Thankfully, the PC keyboard works, you don’t have to painstakingly click each key on the on-screen Blackberry keyboard!
- 5. Wait for your feed to load in the Blackberry Facebook app. Once it’s updated with your information, simply log out again.
- 6. Head to desktop Facebook on your PC. Make sure you’re logged in, then hit the little drop-arrow next to the Home button, and click on Account Settings. While you’re here, take note of the icon next to Notifications down the left-hand side – you’ll be seeing a lot more of this icon very soon.
- 7. Click on ‘Apps’ down the left-hand side, and make sure ‘Facebook for Blackberry Smartphones’ is authorised. If it’s not, try logging back in on the Blackberry emulator again.
[P.S :: The 'Facebook for Blackberry Smartphones' didn't appear in my list so if the same happens to you don't panic, just got to the notifcations tabs on the left hand side and look for 'All notifications' and click on other applications and authorise the 'Blackberry Smartphones app', it worked for me.]
- 8. Pick your Android phone up once more, and launch the Facebook app. Sign in (Since you cleared data & cache earlier). Once you see your news feed, hit the News Feed logo up top to take you to the app’s main menu. Then press the Menu button, go to Settings, and make sure there is a tick next to Notifications, and the Messages/Friend Requests/Event Invites/Vibrate/LED/Notification Ringtone options are enabled or disabled to your tastes. Personally, I like to put that Facebook Pop notification sound to good use – note that it’s set to silent by default.
- 9. You can also set the refresh interval to Never, since these are push notifications, and your feed doesn’t have to auto-refresh.
- 10. Bang, you’re done. Get used to seeing that new notification icon, because wall posts, comments, and replies are going to be pushed your way within a few minutes of being added.

i already have blackberry with me so not a problem but will try this also as i love to try new things.
update : its working awesome thankx buddy. thanked u also.
Confirmed. It works
But I was like waiting for the BB Emulator to show the notifications and it didn't show up. Seems like there was a problem for FB to push notification to BB emulator.
So I continued logging in the FB Android app and it started showing the notification in less than 2 seconds with Edge Data.
This is great.
Now if push notification can work for liking and tagging, it would be great !
This appears to have worked for me. It should be noted that neither Facebook for Android or Facebook for Blackberry show up on my apps list. I assume this is a change Facebook made to not show the native apps.
I have frozen Friendcaster with Titanium backup so I'll be interested to see if the notifications will continue correctly when I defrost Friendster. I'm not sure if Friendcaster will attempt to compete for notifications or not.
I did not delete Friendster from the list off apps with permissions, so I'm hopeful that it won't interfere.
No Blackberry app appeared under "apps" on Facebook after logging in on the Blackberry Simulator.
What am I doing wrong?
Nothing, these instructions are probably slightly outdated. For me, neither Facebook for Android or Facebook for Blackberry shows up. I distinctly remember Facebook for Android showing up in the past, so this must be a recent change.
If you've logged in with the BB emulator and gone through the various menus and turned on anything about notifications it should work (did for me at least)
Unfortunately, don't expect to get "like" or event notifications. Those apparently aren't included in the push system yet. I still have email notifications as well as fRiendcaster for that reason.

Download links broken.
Really don't want to install an app just to download something else!

[Q] Opening clickable addresses in Nokia Drive

Hey Guys, I haven't figured this one out:
How do you open addresses (from contacts or in emails) in Nokia Drive?
I want to be able to click on an address and get directions from current location.
Currently, when I click on an address, it opens in Nokia maps and I can get directions but I'd like GPS directions in Nokia Drive.
Is there a way to do it?
I'm not sure it can be directly opened in drive, but when it opens in the standard maps app, and you tap directions, it will automatically start up Nokia drive...very convenient

Ok, got it! Actually, when I click directions in the map app, there is a small arrow at the bottom which says "Drive". When I click that, it opens the Nokia Drive app.
Thanks!
