im using the inbuilt email app myself, i find it really good and intuitive to use, the stock apps on webos all seem to be really high quality, shame it couldnt get its user base sooner :/
I get "unable to resolve host".
EDIT: Nevermind... I'm an idiot.
EDIT 2: Still doesn't let you scroll.

It just loads the regular Gmail for me. I've tried logging out clicking the link and logging in and I've tried doing it by deleting cookies and cache.
Edit: Managed to get it to load the iPhone/Android (not iPad) version by putting the M in lowercase. Version isn't useful for me as it lacks the option to send from other accounts set up in Gmail. I'll try an older desktop version.
Edit: I suppose that my only option for now is using desktop Gmail and setting emails to 10 per page.

I am looking for a free app/service that will automatically upload pictures as soon as I take them from my phone (htc touch pro).
What do you use and why? What is out there?
Edit: cant post links...lame...use the googlez
What I have found:
mIQ
Its free but you have to "manually" open the app and let it "autosync".
Mesh
Its still in beta and unfinished...
funambol
Looks like you can sync pictures but doesn't show an option for phones...
myphone
Its limited and not automatic...
sugarsync
This is by far the best but they have not added photo syncing to their app. You will most likely have to open the app for it to sync.
shozu
Kinda annoying by the way it asks you every time to sync
Live Mesh is simple to use and it is running fine for me ! it syncs vice versa too ie. with desktop-to-cloud-to-urmobile.
mIQ should start automatically and run in the background as long as sync is set to "Automatic" in settings.
If you're settings are correct and pictures are NOT uploading automatically as they should, feel free to contact us on our help/feedback page (sorry can't post links yet) and we'll get it figured out!

I had forgot about this post but I as soon as I saw a reply I was going to recommend mIQ. MIQ does run in the background and upload automatically. It just takes time pending on how big the megapixel of the camera.
MIQ is now my favorite app. Plus its amazing too because I work in bby as well.
Now if only I can get that HipLogic app that is advertised soo much...

PLEASE READ THE OP! YOU MAY NOT THINK SO, BUT THERE IS INFORMATION HERE THAT MAY SAVE YOU TIME AND HEADACHES!
This is a flashable zip of the Galaxy Tab email app for 2.2.1 Roms. It does not work properly with exchange in 2.2 Roms, so please do not use if you are on a 2.2 Rom and need to use exchange. If you do not use exchange and are on a 2.2 or 2.2.1 Rom, it will work fine!
HISTORY: This app was ported to the Vibrant last year and was modded by XDA member, 'smoothone' who fixed the resolution for the Vibrant. Before that, the app was too large for the lower resolution Vibrant screen. It had many problems for exchange users which were only resolved when Froyo 2.2.1 was released. This app has extraordinary functionality, including multi-delete and support for all versions of exchange. It doesn't exactly support 'push' for corporate exchange accounts, but you can set it to sync on an interval of five minutes.
It has been tested and reported working perfectly in both Bionix Frost, Simply Galaxy/Sweet Honey, and Bi-Winning all 2.2.1 Roms. If you encounter any problems, please be clear in describing what exactly is going wrong. Screenshots are in the second and third posts below.

Thanks to krad42 we now have a version with security removed! He can explain it better than me.
I was sick of using pin mode to unlock my phone every time I locked it. Keep in mind there is a purpose of the security tools, prevent unauthorized access and remote wipe incase your phone gets lost. I am actually using delay lock app from market with this setup so that the phone will prompt for pin after a set period of time, but not every time I close out. Go ahead and make a flashable if you would like, hopefully it will be useful for others. Be safe, follow krad's advice and use the 'DelayedLock' app from the Market!

Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I can't connect in Firefox for some reason today either on Windows or Ubuntu and IE isn't working so fast either although it is working. Anyway, sad to say I don't know of a Tab version with the security disabled. There were two tools able to do that made for use with HTC phones. Other devs modded those applications and got it working for other devices. Problem was no one managed to do it for the Galaxy Tab version that I know of. It was about that time that Froyo 2.2.1 was released and all efforts seemed to die out. I did try to contact smoothone and let him know there was a tool to remove security, but he had received a ban from XDA and was unreachable. Another user posted that he was leaving xda after his ban. If you have the ablility, I can put you in touch with those threads tonight if you want to take a crack at modding it for the Tab version.
Edit: I'll try looking into it tomorrow also, but I can make no promises of success.

Sorry I missed you post earlier. I used to get that error message when connected to wifi on my yahoo account. I just checked, and I don't get it anymore. (Strange) I would try deleting your yahoo account on the phone and going to menu>setting>applications>manage applications>all tab> scroll down to account and sync settings (actually it's third in the list on my phone) tap that and delete any cache and data (if there is any). Then scroll down to the email app and delete cache and data for that (there definitely should be some). Then reboot and reset your yahoo account. Let me know if that works.
Edit: Sorry I forgot all about Imap! Something changed when setting up yahoo in android from my last rom to this one. I had the instructions in my file the whole time. You certainly are fast! You know, I pm'd several devs about doing what you did today and never got a reply. Thank you so very much! I have a question though: Since you had no problems with the original or stock versions with exchange 2010 why did you want a version minus the security feature? And, do you mind if I place you .apk in a flashable zip and offer it to 2.2 users for testing (I'll make sure to credit you). Security wasn't the only problem with the Tab email unfortunately. I'd like to get some feedback from exchange users still on 2.2 Roms.

Hi,
I'm using the native Email client in CM9 with Exchange and was wondering if there was any way to enable notification when an email arrives in a subfolder. From my searching, it looks like Google has disregarded this feature request. This is rather strange as the Gmail client allows notifications for subfolders.
I know that Touchdown and Enhanced Email support subfolder notifications but I would prefer to use the native client if possible.
Do the CM guys touch the Email APK at all or just bundle it 'as is' from ICS source? I guess I could dust off old skills and start hacking the source myself...
All in all, I'm very happy with CM9. The notification bit is just a tad annoying.
Cheers!

This has been a major gripe from me over the past year or so. Every other phone OS manufacturer has this feature built in except for Android. It's not like this is something that only a few people would use. I have rules like crazy for my work email and hate the fact that I have to run 2 different email setups to get everything to work right.
Stock app doesn't do sub-folder replications
Enhanced Email screws up big time on contact creation.
So I'm stuck setting up the stock app to just pull my contacts while using EE to pull subfolder emails notifications.

I have one folder in particular I need to monitor (autonomous alarm emails from network elements). I tried using the Email widget but there is an issue with that not updating. Bleh. I guess I'm kinda screwed unless Google releases an update or I write a patch.
Hmmm... searching Google I'm hearing noises of other firmware that have patched the Email client allowing notification for subfolders. I'll have to dig into this more later. 'Twould be cool if it was a trivial patch easily applied to current ICS/CM9 Email tree.

My GS2 running GB 2.36 doesn't support folders, but I have used EE and are currently using touchdown. The strange thing is my Acer tablet supports folders in both Honeycomb and ICS.
i noticed the other day that if you go into a subfolder using the stock app and press the menu button that you can set it up to sync. I receive so many email that I can't say for sure if the notification window notifies you of subfolder emails, but I know that if you look at all folders you'll see a gray number all the way to the right indicating how many unread emails are in that subfolder.

Yeah, I tried that. The folder will sync (I have local cache for folder) but I receive no notification of new emails when they arrive in folder. Grrrr!

Ha! No solution but something more on the order of a workaround for my particular situation. I got rid of the subfolder and built rules in Exchange to discard messages of no import to me.
I have not checked Jelly Bean's Email client as yet. Hopefully it implements notification for child folders. If not then someone at Google needs to be flogged relentlessly.
How are you guys setting rules in the native app? Is it something that only works on Exchange? I'd love to find an app that will let me filter my IMAP account like regular apps like Thunderbird/Apple Mail do.

Sorry, I might not have been clear. I built the filter rules on the Microsoft Exchange server, not on my phone.
Who are you using for mail? Google provides a nice array of server based filtering options with Gmail. Also, the stock ICS Gmail client supports child folder (label) notification with the option of setting ringtones per folder. Pure greatness in my opinion.

As of the latest JB build the email client functions are exactly the same. I had a DROID Charge before my Nexus, and someone modified that native email client to allow notifications for sub folders. Is there anyway to customize the native client? Anyone want to give this a try?

It works great. I have a torrent of crap hitting my Gmail box but most of it gets filtered and tagged with a label. (FYI -- Google uses labels instead of actual folders in Gmail. For all intents and purposes they are equivalent)
For lists I actually nest lables. Parent label is 'Lists' and all the email lists I belong to are nested underneath. Filter rules automatically bypass the inbox and drop the email in the appropriate place.
See attached screenshot. In it I'm looking at 'Lists/ODK'.
I too have the same problem and have decided to use TouchDown.
I too am missing the nofitications from subfolders in the email app in Android, so I made a quick look at the source code of this app to see if it would be possible to add this feature myself.
The notification itself happens in the NotificationController.java class: https://android.googlesource.com/pl...com/android/email/NotificationController.java
I did until now manage it to get an event in this class when an email arrives in a subfolder by modifying the class EmailProvider.java: https://android.googlesource.com/pl...com/android/email/provider/EmailProvider.java
I've changed the getBaseNotificationUri method to also return an uri on MESSAGE event. The only problem now is that in NotificationController.java only the combined inbox is checked for new emails. Maybe I can change that so that every message is checked. Maybe I have some time this weekend to try this.
I've managed to build a version of the email app that shows notifications when an email arrives in a subfolder. But when clicking on the notification it just opens the inbox of the account. I have to adjust this part too. I hope I will find some time.
Here is a little background. I switched from iPhone 4S to Galaxy S3. Apart from the learning curve (I expected that) everything is going well except for a few annoyances. The one that is driving me nuts is the Email. Again I am new to Android so may be there are setting I have no idea exists.
I have three Email account setup, Hotmail, Gmail and Corporate Exchange Server. By default when I receive the Email it's in text with zero HTML formatting. I checked show images in the options with no luck. I do realize the biggest appeal for android is the endless options and customization
( trust me I know I am windows guy) but something as basic as Email should be set to work just out of the box especially on a smartphone of this caliber. Anyways would greatly appreciate any feedback regarding how to solve this issue. Thanks in advance.
The gmail app works fine.
I'm having the same problem as you do with the other email app that does exchange. You have to go to the bottom of the email and tap on the "Load more details" box and the mail then gets HTML formatted.
Although some HTML emails come up immediately.
I may have to use an alternate client. The best one supposedly is Touchdown but that's $20!!!
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Thanks for the tip. The thing that really annoys me is that html is the most basic expectation from an email client. I am just so surprised that you have to go and select the option e every time. I know there are other email clients available but customizable doesn't mean you end up downloading and paying for something that's so basic. I am hoping someone has an easy solution.

My settings are to email retrieval size is largest allowed with each account. Forward with files. Show images checked. View mode standard. Auto download attachments. I bet you its the standard view setting. I hope this helps.

where exactly is the view mode standard. I have everything just like you but can't find the view mode standard option.
Just checked and the standard option is checked. No luck still. Both my personal and work emails use exchange servers. I am starting to think if the email app is dependant on that may be?
It is definitely possible that any type of encryption will not let you view html format. Mine is not encrypted.

I have the same problem with stock email not presenting html as hyperlinks. What I found was that some hyperlinks load properly, others do not. I found that html fails to properly present as a hyperlink, if there is a period after the html. If I forward an email to myself, the html does not render properly in the forwarded message. However, if I remove the period after the html, the hyperlink is rendered properly. I wouldn't expect a bug like this on a mature high-end product. It really undermines the usefulness of the email app.

That's a very interesting observation. If that's the issue I am hoping it will be fixed soon (like weeks not months or quarters). But I am not going to hold my breath. I completely agree with you, having such an idiotic issue crop up in the stock Email application is unacceptable when Samsung is marketing this phone as their flagship device. Moving from an Iphone 4S I still think the S3 is a very good device but issues like these just puts dent in the image real fast.
Business users are not going to be happy when HTML messages from their corporate exchange servers don't render properly.

I've been on Android about 6 months now. First I had a Galaxy Note & now I have a Galaxy Note 2. In that time I've tried around 30 email clients (some free & some paid versions) but I've still not some across a client that can offer me some (what I consider) very simple features.
What I'd like the client to do is:
1. Be able to resize within the email view so I can see the whole email (or at least the width of it if the mail is longer than one page length). This is such a simple thing but the only one I've found that does this is the official Hotmail client but that brings with it a whole load of other issues... Even the Gmail client doesn't let you do this & you're forced to scroll around the screen trying to put together a virtual jigsaw puzzle in your head of what the whole email should look like.
2. Be able to set an option in the settings to always allow images. Again a simple feature. Something similar to the Gmail app would also be OK where you set it for each sender separately.
3. Always display as HTML.
4. Push notifications that display the message title/sender in the notification.
Hopefully someone knows of such a client but I haven't found one yet.
Thanks for your help people.

Have you tried Enhanced Email? It does all these things that you're looking for.

Thanks. I downloaded Enhanced Email from the play store. It does most of the stuff but doesn't let you know the source or title of the incoming mail. Just tells you that you have new mail.
Also having some problems with formatting emails in mobile view.
It's probably the best I've tried though.
You probably won't find an email client that tells you the sender and title because usually people receive multiple emails at a time from various senders.
And try K 9 mail

Having used enhanced email for a few days I can say that it's definitely not up to use full time. When ever I reboot my phone it deletes my Hotmail account, it doesn't notify properly, has no push for Gmail, can't format html into mobile view effectively & has a poor gui. Very expensive for why it does.
I have tried K9 before & unless it's been updated recently there isn't an option to resize an email so that the while mail is displayed at once is there?

What do you mean resize your email? You can pinch to zoom in it though, I used it a week or so ago

Yes, you can pinch to zoom but I'd like to display the whole email on screen at once & then decide which part of the email I'd like to zoom into (if any). K9 & most other Android clients don't allow this. The only app that I've found that can do this at all is the official Hotmail app but the rest of the app is so basic its shocking. It doesn't allow you to always show images & on my current phone its a 3 click process to show images (in every mail you view). It also truncates all mails to a maximum of 100kb do anything over this takes a further 3 clicks to display properly. Very poor.
Try Aquamail. I absolutely love it, and it has all these features. Their mobile view is the main reason I use it. Make sure you pick up the latest beta version 4 here: www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=217
The mobile view used to be incorporated into the appstore version. The developer took it out temporarily, and it is only in the latest beta.
