BuddiesNow: I need some help to get this Samsung app to work correctly under any ROM. Meaning, I need them as Widgets and not just shortcuts to it.....
I know it work fine under the stock TMO roms with the supplied launcher, (but also not under all the launchers, specifically ADWLauncher!). I need it as a widget and not only a shortcut to the app.
Can someone please help me with it: with these:
I have sign it with my own certificate, but I keep getting this error:
Failed: [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]
What I have tried:
1) Sign this app with my own certificate,
2) Uninstalling BuddiesNow, wipe Dalvik-Cache
3) Uninstall the remainder of the app from Applications (nothing found)
4) Install with ADB and as an app - none works.
still gets the same error.
After signing it with my own certificate and uninstalling it, I now get :
Failure: [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE]
Please help.
Tried looking for the app in Market too, but I guess it's Samsung property (and they probably shoot me now, right?....LOL)
Update: Doing a logcat during the installing of the app (from a filemanager) I get: Package com.sec.android.widgetapp.buddiesnow has no signatures that match those in shared user android.uid.shared. ignoring!
Touchwiz widgets will only work with Touchwiz, just like Sense widgets will only work with Sense. There's no way make them work with ADW. However, Launcherpro Plus offers similar (and IMHO, better) widgets. Launcherpro is also very fast, loaded with options, and the Plus version is only $3. Give it a try.
Edit: before you get flamed, this should probably be posted in Q&A or General.

Thanks....
I can understand that it could be bounded by TouchWiz (or whatever). It's not that it is not working, it is just not working as a Widget (shortcut works).
Well, then I guess not just only Samsung will shoot me, but the dev's too....I overstep on their territory...SORRY!
No need to get defensive, if you hang around XDA for a while you'll find that some people won't be so nice. You're right about the widgets, they are coded to work specifically within TW frameworks, unfortunately there's no way around it. If you like ADW, try Launcherpro. You have to pay for all the goodies, but you can afford a $200 phone, so $3 shouldn't hurt too much.

So while I don't like the Sense launcher and the over abundance of... stuff. I have come to rather like the Sense Email app as it actually forwards email attachments where the AOSP Email does not.
I did a simple copy of an early Gingerbread HTC email apk and that didn't play nice at all could not install it with Root Explorer or adb (what few tricks I know).
Anyone have any tips?
Edit: Further learning (adb -d install blahblah), says that I'm missing a library, how can I find out what library I am missing?
Edit 2: Increased googlefu has found threads on other forums of XDA that says the Sense programs require the Sense frame work, so I basically need a De-Sensed Sense ROM as I prefer ADW by far for my launcher...
But I still hope someone has a solution for putting a Sense email client on AOSP ROMs.

not possible. sorry.
Yeah..not possible. It's sad...I really like the Sense dialer (type numbers and contacts Names and numbers are searched). And yes, I know 3rd party apps exist that do this...but they're unattractive and buggy
Hey folks, I have two general questions.
Ill start with the first easy question.
I would like to get the dock app that comes in the stock rom in an apk that will work with other roms. The dock I am referring to is the one that shows the weather and news and other various information in a sort of gigantic widget and you can scroll thru the different screens in the dock for different information (and at the bottom is a list of all the installed apps). And I would like all of the apks that this dock app uses as well.
I have tried just pulling out the dock.apk file out of the stock image file and sideloading it, but the problem is, it crashes the tab on bootup with every rom I have tried.
This second question is a bit more tricky because every rom has different apps they decide to include that are simply not necessary. If an app is available on the Google Market, I dont want it preinstalled with the rom, I will install it manually myself. If an app is installed that does not make use of the hardware (see the Phone apk), this app is using resources for absolutely no reason I can see and should not be included with the rom.
So, what I am looking for is, a list of all apps that normally come on a stock Google phone (in other words, apks that are included with the Android stock rom BEFORE manufacturers add their usual crap to it) that can be safely removed from all roms for the Gtab because the Gtab does not have the hardware to utilize said app (I would think anything like messaging, the phone, or the gps).
I am not looking for guesses here, I am looking for someone who knows a bit about Android and can safely determine what can be removed that is COMPLETELY useless regarding the GTab because of its hardware.
If you are still completely confused, here is a link to a website where someone has done something similar to what I am talking about with Windows. Read the paragraph or two at the top and then click a link below the paragraph based on the version of Windows you have. This will tell you services you can safely disable. I am looking for the same thing for the Gtab.

This is a WIP so forgive me for doing this in steps instead of all at once, I dislike anything from AT&T and Samsung being loaded on the phone, I am an average user that does not use my phone for business so anything like VPN / Exchange is not needed by me. I just like my phone as lean as possible while maintaining stability
Note: This list is from the latest ICS leak, and have been tested on my phone. I have not DELETED the APK's yet, but have them disabled either thru [Applications / All] or using Autostarts, and RomToolbox. Sorry for the rough layout of this list, I have the flu so expect typo's too.
Accuweather Daemon (used for the weather on the lockscreen / widget)
Accuweather.com (widget)
Android Keyboard (I am soley using Swype)
AP Mobile news (widget)
Application Monitor
AT&T Hot Spots
Buddies Now (widget)
City ID
DeviceHelp
Exchange Services ( I Dont use Exchange)
Google Partner Setup
Home Screen Tips
HTML Viewer (Anyone know what this even does?)
Kies Air
Lets Try Panning!
Media Hub
Mini diary
News & Weather
Polaris Office
Samsung Account
Setup Wizard
Social Hub (There are two listings I disabled both)
TalkBack
Voice Talk (vlingo)
WidgetBinder *
Yahoo Finance
YP Mobile (Disabling this will cause a FC if you try and use it within contacts)
* I am not using TW LAUNCHER. I'm using Apex instead, might have undesired effects if you disable this and use the stock launcher.
[Edit: jellybean list coming soon.]
I am with you, I hate the bloat I know I will not use and don't want it on my device. If you search in either the SGS-II forum or the Note forum you will find a spreadsheet that is also a good reference on what can be removed.
Search "apps safe to remove"

What he said! ^^^^^^ That list is fairly spot on.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
We need a verified list like that for Jelly Bean now, and we also need another list for Startup apps and services, that are safe to remove from Startup. Sometimes you don't need to uninstall an app that you occasionally use, but you certainly don't need it running and eating up resources each time the phone boots.
A great post !!
If i can get a few users too verify the list a few times, i'll add the thread as a resource to the "everything" thread.....
this would help out users a lot !!
thank you......g

I'll hold off for the JB then...
If you can add them both into this thread, and name it for both, that would be sweet....
The "one stop" for both OS's.......
Or not, your call, but thank you in advance......g
there are alot more apks that can be removed. i posted some in another thread awhile back. post number 7 and 8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767113 if you want to add to your list so they can all be in one place. also if you are trying to free up space there are more files that can be removed. in system/media/audio you can delete all extra ringtones, notifications, and alarms. i only have the one i use in each folder and i delete the entire ui folder since i dont like my phone making noise every time i press something. on cm roms there is a video folder in same location that i delete. i have never seen those videos run and are useless. and more i can list later when have time.
Hey,
is there anyway to enable the hidden dock in ADW Launcher Ex 1.3.3.56? or at least a way to downgrade to 1.3.3.55, the last version that I believe had the hidden dock? My middling search abilities seem a bit lacking.
I've seen another thread where in the OP mentioned adwex launcher, but the steps to enabling the feature doesn't exist in this version (ie w/r/t: adwsetting/ui setting/main dockbar/dockbarbackground/custom; the custom option doesn't exist, not at least in the one I just downloaded). Either way, it looks like a secondary dock.
I've also seen another thread where a poster suggests the OP tries the free version, except the free version's been tagged as incompatible with the SGP 5.0
Thanks
the free version works on the sgp, it's even included in cm7!
if you want to downgrade you'll have to download the older version off the internet, but that would be pirating...

well, AppBrain redirects to Google Play, which lists my device as incompatible => can't download. Same goes when I try to dl via the laptop.
Well, I assume that if I already paid for the newest one, that older versions of the program would be accessible. that's just me though
I use ADW Ex and I can have a hidden dock by going to themes > dock > none. Is that what you were wanting?
Nah, but thanks for the reply.
Actually, turns out that the dev killed the feature (a dock within docks) in this version. boo. still, I get by by adding the folders onto the dock. Launching apps from the dock are now a 2-step process instead of a single step. THE [email protected]#!@#!#!
Actually, it isn't bad. Makes my dock look like it has port windows.
I am 99% sure this isn't possible but figured I'd ask in a more general forum (GS8+ was a bust) on if there is a way to replace system apps without root(or an easy way to change a system apk to 'clone' and install on the user side by looking like a different app.)
I've figured out what needs done to force the Samsung Dex app to run without the dock, but due to many reasons cannot side load the altered apk. Changing the app name, installation directory, etc. the phone still sees it as the same apk/app and will not install it. Can't change the version and overwrite from what I can tell because I can't sign it with the samsung key obviously.
thoughts? Directions?
Only thing I can see to do, is rewrite the app complete (names, folder structure, etc. of the needed parts) to actually make it a completely new app to the phone. This looks to be many many hours of work and the route I least want to go. If I can help it.
i know its a old thread, but what needs to be done to force Dex? I have a hard time on my note 10+ it keeps saying faulty usb-c port due to some kind of water not there.
