and can i install android on a stock rom i hate to flash my phone with a custom rom i like the stock because i like to customize my hd2 like i want
In short, no. The start button placement that you're after is only in WM 6.5.x, not WM 6.5.
There are no official 6.5.x ROMs available, so custom ROMs is the only way to get that.
ok what about android?
Android looks and works completely different. I'd recommend giving it a go if you're at all unhappy with WM, as they really are worlds apart.
Admittedly, Sense is Sense, and that's part of many Android builds too, but I don't even use that and find Android much friendlier, easy to use and generally more accessible (mainly due to the 1000s of good apps on the market).
I'd suggest giving Android a go if you've got even the slightest inclination, as it's not a ROM flash so your WM stays untouched. You'll need a radio >= 2.08 though, which may mean flashing HSPL. If you're in the right region, there's a ROM on the HTC site that has a 2.15 radio in it, so you can do that without the use of a new HSPL.
im very hapyy with wm but no (good) games on wm on android you have asphalt 5, raging thunder 2, angry birds and so on so i dont ned a diferent rom i have 2.07.51.22_2 radio will it work? and one question if i nedd to flash my phone in the phone identety it says Model No T-mobile_LEO on my box says t8585 also on tcpmp says tmobile leo?? so wich model have i ?

2.07 is too low. You need at least 2.08 to run Android. I'd recomment going for 2.12.50 or the latest, 2.15.50.
As for the phone ID, you have a HD2, codename Leo, that was supplied by T-Mobile. The model number is T8585. They're all the same thing. (It gets on my nerves having different names for the same thing, but there you go!)
can i brick my device if i screw something up while flashing the radio??
and now i dont get it is it a european or a tmous version it does not saying t-mobile close to the speaker like the tmous version does

Follow on previous information you communicate us [you'r radio 2.07.51.22_2]
You can upgrade to a radio version 2.12.50 radio or higher using the latest 2.15.50 is recommended by lot of users.

thats wrong.
@OP - you have a normal, regular HD2. The fact it is from t mo doesn't matter, only t mo US have different phones than the rest of us.
Your regular hd2 can take ANY radio, regular or tmous, so disregard the above post. Only tmous users need to be careful.
As johnc said, go for 2.12.50 radio or higher, so yes, you will need to flash a radio, cos yours is 2.07
so if i use my radio rom i will have the robot voice right? if yes that doesnt mater for me can i still run it i just want android for gaming
Sorry, i cant help with the specifics, I don;t use android, so i don't know the particulars of exactly why you need higher radios.
Just give it a try, you don't 'flash' android, it just runs from teh sd card, so nothing to lose, just try it.

Nope, I think the incorrect radio will prevent you acheiving a data/wifi connection and leave you unable to get any apps.
Read the stickies in the rom development section and watch the video on flashing a new radio.......
read it again and you'll be good to go.........
A lot of people do report problems using android on some stock roms though so you might be better to flash a custom rom to go with that shiny new radio....
there are plenty of close to stock custom roms (dutty / artemis) that will still give you a blank canvas for any mods you want to make........
and you can get that big ugly bottom left start button you want too.....
ok then il wait until the easten europe version of the new rom is relased and then i will flash rom radio
dear friend, you should first hspl your device, then flash a radio higher than 2.08...iam using radio 2.08 on stock 1.48 wwe rom...i have not had any problems with any android build....you can try different radio if you have reception problems...downloading and flashing radios is easy ..very small size downloads... but do a hspl first

Hey guys,
I've been searching through these forums a little bit for the past couple of weeks thinking about upgrading my Cingular 8525 to WM6. However, I'm a little skepitcal of a few things. I downloaded the official WM6 release from HTC's website. Their instructions said that once this version is flashed, you can't rollback. Is there anyway I can preserve a copy of my current WM5 Cingular branded ROM so that I can just restore it back incase I don't like WM6? I'll probably like it once I flash to it, but I just have that natural feeling of being a little skeptical since this phone means a lot.
Here's my current ROM information:
ROM Version: 1.34.502.1
ROM date: 09/21/06
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol version: 32.53.7018.01H
Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0 OS 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0)
So I guess my basic question here is, how can I make a backup copy of my Cingular branded WM5 before flashing to WM6? I don't want the AT&T branded WM5 if I decide to go back. Also, should I go with the WM6 from HTC's website, or should I choose one from here?
Thanks.

If you want to roll back, install HardSPLv7. you can flash any rom you want (as long as it's compatable with the 8525 variations)
If you want to keep your settings, use spb backup to do a full backup (you get 5 free backups, and after you flash it cant tell the difference) so that if you reinstall the stock att wm5 2.15 rom, you can put it back the way it was in minutes.
if you dont want the att wm5, then if you have hardsplv2 then you can put any one you want, you'll just have to reinstall all your progams/ redo your settings.
You can use activesync for your contacts and calendar and put those back on any rom. I use spb backup for most but nscontactbackup works great across roms (spb doesnt always play well when going to a new rom)
Do some reading around here and you'll discover the endless possibilities....
Personally I love Vp3g's att rom. All the good stuff without the bloat, and a LOT of storage!
I had no problem downgrading or upgrading my hermes you just need to install hardspl by olipro first. I have installed that rom then didnt like it so reinstalled wm5 ,didnt like that so installed itsrights tnt rom for hermes which is wm6 and works superb. So basically as long as you flash hardspl or cid unlock then you will be fine
@ the last poster you beat me to it, because i went to make a coffee lol
Thanks for the quick reply. Can you supply me download links for HardSPLv7 spb backup? I'm just really concerned about preserving my Cingular branded WM5 version for safe keeping. Currently I don't have a data plan and have this "Data Connect ISP - No charge" feature on my phone that allows me to get my 8525 on the Internet at not monthly charge. Someone told me that it was a design flaw in the software and that the device performs no data authentication, and if I upgraded I'd lose that functionality. Don't know if that's true or not.
So basically I'll install HardSPLv7 on my phone and it will retain a copy of my WM5 on the phone or on my computer? I want to retain all my settings and my current WM5 ROM so if I want to flash back to what I have now, it's easily doable.
ok.. you've GOT to do some reading around here before you take the n00b plunge! HardSPLv7 and SPB Backup are different things....
SPB backup is at http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com
hard splv7 is a sticky on the upgrading sub forum.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
now the tough part....
saving the exact version of the rom on your phone (i don't believe it's possible.)
again your best bet is to redownload the version you are running currently and then doing a full spb backup of your phone. if you don't like what you have then it should put it all back just the way it was, including data settings.
PS- thats friggin sweet how you get data without a data plan! wish I had that!
hardspl is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
at the bottom of the first post
spb backup is here
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/download.html?en
as for your old rom you should have that on cd or you will be able to download it from there website as spb backup will simply backup the data that is on the storage part of your rom not the Windows OS

Yeah, I know I'm going to tomorrow so I have a good idea of what I'm getting into before I wind up totally screwing my phone up. I just wanted to get a broad idea of the backup/restore methods before I got into anything too major.

Alright, this is where I get a little lost. "Redownload the version you are running currently" Where can I get that from? I haven't been able to find an original WM5 ROM that is Cingular branded instead of AT&T branded.

I'll have to dig out the CD that came with my 8525, but I don't remember that being on there. It seemed like it was only the ActiveSync installation. I'll check tomorrow.
As to what WM6 version to install, I think I'm leaning towards the "Windows Mobile VI Pro - BLACK 3.0.1" ROM I saw on here. It looks really sleek. Is that a good one, or can I just install the one you're running, intrglctcrevfnk, and add that theme and whatnot?
I've been reading about the different radio versions and what not, and bad battery life, so I'm wishy washy.
here is a link to the cingular roms if you cant find them
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
just find out from your device what version you have and you will be good to go
Yeah! Good job! We all start somewhere!
Above post should take you to all the roms. HTC removed the 2.15 rom right before they put up the wm6 rom.
It looks like you want the 1.34 rom (that was the cingular rom that came with the phone originally), should be there.
Here's the thread for the 1.34 rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=278386
Here's the link to rapidshare for the rom: http://rapidshare.com/files/17338966/RUU_HER_Cingular_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship.exe
I tried Black Majik, but found it troublesome...
All of schaps' roms are great.
I went on a rom spree but I really liked vp3g's... had the att feel without all the bloat.
And yes, you can put any rom you want on and then download a .tsk skin file and change the bars and menus and background to what you want.
Mine question is similar, i have Cingular 8525 with Cingular WM5 rom, but my device is bought unlocked, and I want to put WM6. Is it enough to put HardSPL, then when its done, to put official HTC WM6 rom, or there are more actions necessary? I know this has probably been covered in many topics, but I didnt find a definite answer, plus there isn't an official HTC reseller/supporter in my country, so nowhere to go if I brick my phone.

check out THIS LINK . No extra steps. That simple.
Of course, I probably wouldn't recommend the official WM6 release, but I know some people prefer to go that way.
so what one would you suggest, like being most stable, no bugs etc? I don't need extra apps built in the rom, just regular one
As "official" a ROM as your gonna get here
If you want to keep the look and feel of the official ATT ROM, but take out the bloat then i think vp3G is the one for you. The best part is you can try any/all of them. Once you go hacked you never go back. I tried nearly all of them. I didn't bother backing up as i looked at it as a test drive, when i found the one i liked i stayed with it. Although i did have Schaps's for a while i ended up with vp3G's. Something about the ATT branding.
vp3G ROM thread

Some important notes
You will have to upgrade your radio at or above 1.48
I'm not into AT&T, cause I am not that user and I don't need their GPRS and other settings, I was thinking more of some modification of official HTC WM6 rom, if there are any?

You really cannot go wrong lately. Most of the current cooked ROM's are very stable. I most recently used vp3G's as well, but I know that most are very solid. If you do not care about AT&T, then definitely don't use the official AT&T ROM - lot's of AT&T bloat - you will hate it. I know that many users like Schaps also. I tested one of his a while back and it was great. I have not tested many of the most recent batch.
edit: OK, I am dumb. Just noticed you said official HTC WM6, not official AT&T WM6. Cool. Anyway, most of the cooked ROMs have updated versions of apps from other devices that make the cooked ROMs superior to the official Hermes releases. It is not usually about extra apps, but about the latest and greatest versions of the core apps. Give any one a try, you can always change.
Thanks a bunch for all this answers
before you flash
go to mr vanx's guides. Follow his instructions for flashing, and you will be fine. this is the least risky way to flash that i have encountered. You may also want to download RUU 5.2.Do a search, and you will find it. The link to mr vanx's guide is in vp3g's signature in the first one or two posts. I think you will find vp3g's roms to have the most polished oem feel without all of att's garbage. Also, in this last version he created a full version that you can easily remove umwanted aps from.
DO NOT flash without hardspl installed. It is the smoothest, most reliable way to recover your device in the event of a bad flash.
Make sure your computer will not be interupted during the flash process.
Have fun

Thanks for the link to the 1.34 ROM. It seems to be the exact one that I have right now, so if I want to downgrade, that will be perfect.
I'm downloading vp3g's latest ROM as well. However, how do I get the black theme from Black Majik theme? Do I just download the copy to my computer and extract it out of the file or do I actually have to load the ROM on my phone?

I went ahead and sync'd my 8525, and I got kind of frustrated with that, considering it took all my Outlook contacts and imported them to my phone and also put all my phone numbers from my phone into my Outlook contacts. So now I have at least 100 numbers to delete from Outlook I didn't want. I wanted it to just export one big backup file. So I downloaded SpbBackup and it did about a 7MB backup file. But now it has that annoying icon on my Today screen.
Is there anyway to easily extract that Black Majik theme? I know it's a very minor thing at the moment.

Hi Guys,
I have not seen any notable change after flashing the new ROM, but certainly it has not degraded my reception quality. Its too early to say if my original issue is fixed with this RADIO, until somebody complains saying I didn't picked their call.
I am not sure weather flashing radio on GENE is safe, I took my chance as I have two GENE's, and I was ready to sacrifice one of then
On device's after kaiser, security can be unlocked, which allow them to flash any radio, even from other devices, and if something goes wrong they can roll back. But such a unlock is not available for GENE
On how to flash the RADIO, just download the .nbh file posted by vaibhav, and flash it as you normally flash any other ROM using the rom update utility.

Flashing and SPL
If you have an unlocked Fuze, it does not mean that you have installed the hard Spl. Unlocked means that you are able to use your phone on any network, and you have the ability to flash non-raphael radios to your device. If you would like to flash a 6.5 rom to your Fuze, you need to flash the hard spl first, choose a rom, and flash your chosen rom. As far as signal goes, some roms work well with certain radios. Read the forums for the rom that you choose and see what kind of radio the chef recommends. Another thing that I can recommend is to go to the HTC website and take a look at the official update for the Fuze. This is a rom and a radio package that in my experience made my phone work much better than before. The update to the radio boosted my signal, and it unlocked the gps to work with any program since a stock Fuze gps works only with the At&t navigation program. All in all, the best advice I can give you is read up on the xda forums. The contributors on this forum are amazing and have put countless hours into turning our stock (crappy) Raphaels into real i-phone killers.
when its on blue, green, red boot screen it says spl 1.90. olinix
if you've flashed hard-spl, then you are ready to flash a rom.
yes, changing your radio could possibly result in improved reception. radios have different results for everyone and depends largely on where you live.
deadcpu already gave you the thread that has all the information you need. read it.

Question no.4 from the Gene ROM Upgrading Guide : read the 3rd point carefully.
Q4. Are there any precautions that i need to take when selecting a ROM for flashing to my device?
Ans. Yes, there are indeed some things that you need to keep in mind before making mind to flash a ROM.
1. Make sure your SPL is patched, ie. On boot screen it should have either SPL 1.10.Olip displayed in case of an old gene OR SPL 1.07.Oref in case of a new gene. If it is not, patch it using the Guide given below. If it is, dont ever try to patch it again.
2. After patching your SPL you will become sure that whether your phone is a new gene or old, because of knowing the version of SPL that worked for you. Now, never choose a ROM which is not built for your phone. Only use ROMs appropriate for you phone. And if you ever accidently flash a ROM of wrong version, dont panic. Just flash another ROM for your version and your phone will be back.
3. In general, never try to downgrade your ROM. Means if your original ROM was WM 5 and you upgraded to WM 6 or 6.1 Dont try to downgrade to WM5. This is specially true for WM 5 because of reasons i'll explain later.

THEN TELL ME KARAN WHAT WILL HAPPEN FOR ME THESE SCREEN SHOOTS WAS TAKEN FROM MY PHONE AND IT'S WORKING PROBABLY NO PROBLEMS AT ALL I WILL TELL YOU WHAT IS THE PROBLEM THE GUIDE IS TALKING ABOUT IT'S TALKING ABOUT THE ORIGINAL ROM THAT CONTAINS
SPL AND IPL IN IT THESE THING AS FAR AS I KNOW WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE BUT I HAVE SAID AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN THESE ROM CONTAINS NO SPL OR IPL SO DON'T WRY ABOUT IT IT A SAFE ROM AND THX FOR YOUR REPLAY
Q5. Why is it not recommended to downgrade the OS version, ie. moving to a previous ROM version?
Ans. There is no problem actually in doing so. But there are some situations that needs to be taken care of. What happens is, Somtimes, the previous version of Original ROMs from htc, contain the older version of SPL that is very specifically made for that version of ROM.So if you flash this ROM, your SPL will again become locked. This is specially true for original WM 5 ROMs
In case your phone came with WM5 originally, and the version of ROM exactly with the one that was originally on your device, It wont give any problem. But if this ROM is not exactly the version your phone originally came with, this will brick your device and you'll have to take it to service center. No homemade solutions works then.
Even bigger problem arises when your phone came with Wm 6 originally and you try to downgrade it to WM 5. This will certainly brick your device and force you to take it to service center. SO DONT EVER TRY TO DOWNGRADE A GENE TO WM5 IF IT ORIGINALLY CAME WITH WM 6.
ROMs created by users here do not contain the ONBL, SPL and GSM parts (dont worry about the names). These only contain the OS part which is safe to use.

gr8!!! i did not read this for the first time dear.
Still,after reading the info,its worth a risk.
@SSO:
Well, you are right in a sense, but keep in mind that the ONBL and SPL that comes for WM 5 doesn't supports booting/usage of WM 6 and 6.1 ROMs well, and same is true for the updated SPL that you use when unlocking your device (either Orefkov's or Olipro's). Once you upgraded/unlocked your device to 6.1 using one of these SPLs there could be some chances that your phone might not boot with WM 5 roms, or may not give expected performance/behavior. So In general, I still don't recommend going back to WM 5 if you have moved from it. Rest, you can take your own risks.
And please don't use block/bold letters unnecessarily throughout a post, it does not mean "emphasis", it means you are shouting on the person reading it, which is not good according to the etiquette of a public forum. Just a friendly suggestion

you'd better update your ROM to a newer OS to avoid problems in future.
And a new gene with W.M.5? strange.

I have a Tmobile HD2 with SPL 2.10. I am trying to downgrade it to 1.42 so that way I can install HSPL and flash my Radio rom to the latest version.
How do I downgrade my SPL to 1.42 in order to install HSPL?
Basic info about my HD2:
ROM Version: 2.13.531.1 (90963) WWE
ROM Date 4/28/10
Radio version: 2.10.50.26
Also, how do i figure out if my HD2 is 1024leo?
Ignore my question above. I answered it myself by viewing this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
I have another question. So it seems my HD2 is a 1024leo.
1) How do I know if this rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595318, is compatible with my 1024leo?
2) If I ever want to roll back to the default non-custom rom, is this possible? If so so where do I download the original stock rom? And how do I make sure I am downloading the compatible one so I don't brick my phone?
yes you can rollback to stock rom just download it from http://www.htc.com
and you will know is it compatible with your phone because to download stock you have to neter your serial wich tells htc that you have a tmous

Where do I download the stock ROM?
Also, as for custom ROM how do I figure out which one is compatible with my HD2? I don't want to end up bricking it. I remember reading somewhere that since my HD2 is a 1024leo, I can't flash certain radio roms and custom roms. How do I know which ones I can't flash?

lmao, you can tell because the first sentence says "These roms are TMO-US compatible."
Your phone = 1024leo = tmous = TMO-US

you are in the wrong forum. This is the forum for the regular hd2, you need THIS tmous specific section. Go there and read, read some more, then read again. This time next week you will know all you need to know.
The most important thing for you to remember is NEVER NEVER NEVER flash ANY stock rom that is not for the tmous, and NEVER NEVER NEVER flash any radio that has a 51 in the version. Example 2.07.51.x radio will totally destroy your phone. (See the first few posts in the tmous radio thread.)
