Skeptical questions about upgrade to WM6 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hey guys,
I've been searching through these forums a little bit for the past couple of weeks thinking about upgrading my Cingular 8525 to WM6. However, I'm a little skepitcal of a few things. I downloaded the official WM6 release from HTC's website. Their instructions said that once this version is flashed, you can't rollback. Is there anyway I can preserve a copy of my current WM5 Cingular branded ROM so that I can just restore it back incase I don't like WM6? I'll probably like it once I flash to it, but I just have that natural feeling of being a little skeptical since this phone means a lot.
Here's my current ROM information:
ROM Version: 1.34.502.1
ROM date: 09/21/06
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol version: 32.53.7018.01H
Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0 OS 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0)
So I guess my basic question here is, how can I make a backup copy of my Cingular branded WM5 before flashing to WM6? I don't want the AT&T branded WM5 if I decide to go back. Also, should I go with the WM6 from HTC's website, or should I choose one from here?
Thanks.

If you want to roll back, install HardSPLv7. you can flash any rom you want (as long as it's compatable with the 8525 variations)
If you want to keep your settings, use spb backup to do a full backup (you get 5 free backups, and after you flash it cant tell the difference) so that if you reinstall the stock att wm5 2.15 rom, you can put it back the way it was in minutes.
if you dont want the att wm5, then if you have hardsplv2 then you can put any one you want, you'll just have to reinstall all your progams/ redo your settings.
You can use activesync for your contacts and calendar and put those back on any rom. I use spb backup for most but nscontactbackup works great across roms (spb doesnt always play well when going to a new rom)
Do some reading around here and you'll discover the endless possibilities....
Personally I love Vp3g's att rom. All the good stuff without the bloat, and a LOT of storage!

I had no problem downgrading or upgrading my hermes you just need to install hardspl by olipro first. I have installed that rom then didnt like it so reinstalled wm5 ,didnt like that so installed itsrights tnt rom for hermes which is wm6 and works superb. So basically as long as you flash hardspl or cid unlock then you will be fine
@ the last poster you beat me to it, because i went to make a coffee lol

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you supply me download links for HardSPLv7 spb backup? I'm just really concerned about preserving my Cingular branded WM5 version for safe keeping. Currently I don't have a data plan and have this "Data Connect ISP - No charge" feature on my phone that allows me to get my 8525 on the Internet at not monthly charge. Someone told me that it was a design flaw in the software and that the device performs no data authentication, and if I upgraded I'd lose that functionality. Don't know if that's true or not.
So basically I'll install HardSPLv7 on my phone and it will retain a copy of my WM5 on the phone or on my computer? I want to retain all my settings and my current WM5 ROM so if I want to flash back to what I have now, it's easily doable.

ok.. you've GOT to do some reading around here before you take the n00b plunge! HardSPLv7 and SPB Backup are different things....
SPB backup is at http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com
hard splv7 is a sticky on the upgrading sub forum.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
now the tough part....
saving the exact version of the rom on your phone (i don't believe it's possible.)
again your best bet is to redownload the version you are running currently and then doing a full spb backup of your phone. if you don't like what you have then it should put it all back just the way it was, including data settings.
PS- thats friggin sweet how you get data without a data plan! wish I had that!

hardspl is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
at the bottom of the first post
spb backup is here
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/download.html?en
as for your old rom you should have that on cd or you will be able to download it from there website as spb backup will simply backup the data that is on the storage part of your rom not the Windows OS

Yeah, I know I'm going to tomorrow so I have a good idea of what I'm getting into before I wind up totally screwing my phone up. I just wanted to get a broad idea of the backup/restore methods before I got into anything too major.

Alright, this is where I get a little lost. "Redownload the version you are running currently" Where can I get that from? I haven't been able to find an original WM5 ROM that is Cingular branded instead of AT&T branded.

I'll have to dig out the CD that came with my 8525, but I don't remember that being on there. It seemed like it was only the ActiveSync installation. I'll check tomorrow.
As to what WM6 version to install, I think I'm leaning towards the "Windows Mobile VI Pro - BLACK 3.0.1" ROM I saw on here. It looks really sleek. Is that a good one, or can I just install the one you're running, intrglctcrevfnk, and add that theme and whatnot?
I've been reading about the different radio versions and what not, and bad battery life, so I'm wishy washy.

here is a link to the cingular roms if you cant find them
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
just find out from your device what version you have and you will be good to go

Yeah! Good job! We all start somewhere!
Above post should take you to all the roms. HTC removed the 2.15 rom right before they put up the wm6 rom.
It looks like you want the 1.34 rom (that was the cingular rom that came with the phone originally), should be there.
Here's the thread for the 1.34 rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=278386
Here's the link to rapidshare for the rom: http://rapidshare.com/files/17338966/RUU_HER_Cingular_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship.exe
I tried Black Majik, but found it troublesome...
All of schaps' roms are great.
I went on a rom spree but I really liked vp3g's... had the att feel without all the bloat.
And yes, you can put any rom you want on and then download a .tsk skin file and change the bars and menus and background to what you want.

Mine question is similar, i have Cingular 8525 with Cingular WM5 rom, but my device is bought unlocked, and I want to put WM6. Is it enough to put HardSPL, then when its done, to put official HTC WM6 rom, or there are more actions necessary? I know this has probably been covered in many topics, but I didnt find a definite answer, plus there isn't an official HTC reseller/supporter in my country, so nowhere to go if I brick my phone.

check out THIS LINK . No extra steps. That simple.
Of course, I probably wouldn't recommend the official WM6 release, but I know some people prefer to go that way.

so what one would you suggest, like being most stable, no bugs etc? I don't need extra apps built in the rom, just regular one

As "official" a ROM as your gonna get here
If you want to keep the look and feel of the official ATT ROM, but take out the bloat then i think vp3G is the one for you. The best part is you can try any/all of them. Once you go hacked you never go back. I tried nearly all of them. I didn't bother backing up as i looked at it as a test drive, when i found the one i liked i stayed with it. Although i did have Schaps's for a while i ended up with vp3G's. Something about the ATT branding.

Some important notes
You will have to upgrade your radio at or above 1.48

I'm not into AT&T, cause I am not that user and I don't need their GPRS and other settings, I was thinking more of some modification of official HTC WM6 rom, if there are any?

You really cannot go wrong lately. Most of the current cooked ROM's are very stable. I most recently used vp3G's as well, but I know that most are very solid. If you do not care about AT&T, then definitely don't use the official AT&T ROM - lot's of AT&T bloat - you will hate it. I know that many users like Schaps also. I tested one of his a while back and it was great. I have not tested many of the most recent batch.
edit: OK, I am dumb. Just noticed you said official HTC WM6, not official AT&T WM6. Cool. Anyway, most of the cooked ROMs have updated versions of apps from other devices that make the cooked ROMs superior to the official Hermes releases. It is not usually about extra apps, but about the latest and greatest versions of the core apps. Give any one a try, you can always change.

Thanks a bunch for all this answers

before you flash
go to mr vanx's guides. Follow his instructions for flashing, and you will be fine. this is the least risky way to flash that i have encountered. You may also want to download RUU 5.2.Do a search, and you will find it. The link to mr vanx's guide is in vp3g's signature in the first one or two posts. I think you will find vp3g's roms to have the most polished oem feel without all of att's garbage. Also, in this last version he created a full version that you can easily remove umwanted aps from.
DO NOT flash without hardspl installed. It is the smoothest, most reliable way to recover your device in the event of a bad flash.
Make sure your computer will not be interupted during the flash process.
Have fun

Thanks for the link to the 1.34 ROM. It seems to be the exact one that I have right now, so if I want to downgrade, that will be perfect.
I'm downloading vp3g's latest ROM as well. However, how do I get the black theme from Black Majik theme? Do I just download the copy to my computer and extract it out of the file or do I actually have to load the ROM on my phone?

Black Theme
There are a couple of black themes here that i posted

I went ahead and sync'd my 8525, and I got kind of frustrated with that, considering it took all my Outlook contacts and imported them to my phone and also put all my phone numbers from my phone into my Outlook contacts. So now I have at least 100 numbers to delete from Outlook I didn't want. I wanted it to just export one big backup file. So I downloaded SpbBackup and it did about a 7MB backup file. But now it has that annoying icon on my Today screen.
Is there anyway to easily extract that Black Majik theme? I know it's a very minor thing at the moment.

Well if you have already purchased the IMEI-check unlocker I wouldnt worry about it. You can swap as many times as you'd like with that.
Each ROM has its quirks here and there. There is no perfect ROM. I recommend just try a few out. I have had mine nearly a week and have tried almost all the WWE ROMS. I just changed from the 1.34 Cingular to the HTC. I can see a speed difference in a good way towards the HTC.
It's your world, choose your ROM.

So in your weeks of testing ROMs, which would YOU prefer/recommend?
I too am in the same problem in that there are lots of threads with wows and boo's , but there is no true comparison thread in what it does, does not do, what it has, has not, what stability it has, has not etc etc
With the K-jam, it was clear what ROMs were recommended but here, most are just going in circles askingQ's rather than reviewing roms.
I use the I-mate one after unlocking the M3100 and removing the orange one. While it is good, I am yet to hear what the other ones are like. I would test as you said but with lackof time etc, it is difficult... whichis where you guys come in
I want a stable working phone, andwhat I dont want is to upgrade to a rom (or keep the Imate) get it all up and running and then tomorrow, a much better rom comes out :->
This is in no way putting anyone down, I do appreciate like most of us do, that most of you guys really go out of your way to test/come back to us about how things went.
What would be nice is a definative answer from testers on how the roms were... and maybe a comparison thread too.
Thanks
Well its actually less than a week of testing. I didnt like the graphics in the iMates (mainly the boot up graphics). I also had the problem of the iMAte ROM freezing after installing MMS Composed which I need here in Japan. The Cingular ROMS have great graphics but cant unlock the ExtROM. The Dopod was the first I tried out and it looked great as I remember but I couldnt get it to connect to the internet here in Japan. The HTC seems to be my favorite now cause I dont see alot of extra certain network only apps that I dont need. It also seems to boot faster for me.
With all that being said, I am in Japan and you are not so my perception will be different than yours about which ROM is "the best." I would just say try one of each of the flavors of ROMS.This probably wont help much but I think you'll be happier if you try multiple ROMS out and pick for yourself.
Good Luck
Trying to choose little big problem.....!

I've also tryed to put other ROM with bootloader 1.06 (new Vodafone FRA... i will upload when tested) but I receive the Error: "Wrong Model.."

Great! Always usefull when you need to restore your device
Has anyone tested if any of these ROMs flash properly.. for me it would be the Dutchversion then... But I can not test right now can not have my phone broken down. Once Kaizer is out I am going to buy that one and then I could test, but would be nice to know if these dumped ROMs work
Unfortunately I do not know, I haven't even tested the UK version as I am not sure if it will work, however I did update the RUU.
Shame we cannot emulate the firmware install!
The T-Mob UK dumped ROM isn't quite right - the w'n'w home page doesn't work properly.
Minor thing but, one of the first things I tested
I dumped my friends ROM the other day. I'm currently working on building it and testing it - will let you know when it's done
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Hmmm...humble pie - lovely
Well, after flashing the ROM i dumped the other day, I had exactly the same thing with IE.
It took me about 3 seconds to realise it must be because the extROM had been flashed by one of the WM6 ROMs I had been using in the past.
As it turns out, this is the case so I can confirm that if you have the same issue, download the extROM dumo from the wiki (from this page) and delete the current contents of your extROM and copy the downloaded one back to it. Hard reset, and voila - everything back the way T-Mobile shipped (apart from Radio ROM, IPL\SPL etc...) but WTH ;-)

Trapper,
I assume you mean how can you put the correct Extended ROM onto your device? If I understand this correctly, the ROMs mentioned in Jygar's first post are the original main ROM but the Extended ROM is in fact from a Windows Mobile 6 ROM (I do not believe that flashing a ROM will affect the Extended ROM - the problem is that the re-flashed (downgraded) WM5 ROM is starting the Extended ROM installation after the basic OS install (as normal) but that Extended ROM is still a WM6 one.
The page that is linked to includes many Extended ROMs from many countries and devices - one of them an original T-Mobile ROM (here) and if you were to unlock/unhide and mount your Extended ROM you would be able to delete the incorrect (WM6) ones and then paste in these original Extended ROM files.
The Extended ROM files are executed during a hard reset after the OS has been installed - details of how this works are within this forum. I am not sure that you need to do a hard reset but it all depends on whether you stopped the device completing a normal (complete) install. After a hard reset the device will start to execute the Extended ROM files/.cabs and if you stop that with a soft reset as soon as it starts then the device will re-boot with a basic WM build (with no service provider fixes/updates/customisations/settings)
If this is all explaining what you already know then sorry but your question posted is rather open... Hope this helps

@tony.wheeler - What was the original radio version of your Vario II? I'm in the process of creating a complete upgrade to restore UK MDA Vario II's to their 'out of the box' state with the original ROMs (IPL, SPL, MainSplash, SubSplash, OS, Radio ExtROM)

eek, think it was 1.03?
[edit]Have done a search it appears it is 1.05!
only problem is this is HTC_BOOT 0106 and most ppl are now patched to 0108 so I would have thought we cannot downgrade our radio rom.
TBH 1.43 is the best radio rom out and i cannot say a bad word against it. I have only eva updated my radio rom and since the radio update have not had a problem with the origional t-mob os.
Hehe, yeah i found out it was 1.05 as well. Oh well, I'll use 1.07 in my NBH. I now have a complete ROM backup (IPL, SPL, GSM, OS, MainSplash, SubSplash, ExtROM) to revert back to should anything ever happen which means I would need to claim on the warranty.

I keep loosing connection with the 1.50 that came with the WM6 test ROM, and also falling down to GSM even though I'm in a good 3G reception area.
Didn't seem to notice these problems before. I was running Radio 1.48 onto of the old radio.

Back to WM5

Hey,
does anyone now where i can get the ameo t-mobile german rom wm5.
I want to go back from wm6 because i can not get bb work.
thanks
Search and you will find your answer...
I don'tuse BB,but if my memory has not failed me, it can work in wm6. Whether you want to make BB work, or go back to wm5(which doesn't make sense to me), the way todo it is already posted on this forum.
Good luck!
can someone point out where cos i have searched everywhere includin the wikki and cant find it
also is the original t-mobile wm5 rom available cos i cant see that anywhere
When you bought the phone, didn't you get a disc containing the wm5 ? I did, together with other stuffs like active sync program, gps program, ROM upgrade disc, etc. I imagine T mobile works the same way, no?
i have all the apps you describe but NO WM5 rom
So, you do have the wm5 ROM upgrade disc? Have you tried flashing with that? No harm trying since your phone has been unlocked.
I have the apps but the WM5 rom is NOT included, i have found it somewhere else and am gonna try later , i also need the tmobile extended rom info as well

Avoiding overwriting hard-SPL (and a couple of radio questions)

I've spent the last few days reading wikis, guides and threads about upgrading my Tytn, but I still have a few questions:
This guide describes a method for preventing hard-SPL from being overwritten with another bootloader. If I understand it correctly, this is only a problem with original shipped ROMs, and not with the ROMs cooked by the people here. Is this correct? Can I upgrade with any of the custom ROMs here without worrying about overwriting the bootloader?
Are the radio ROMs country or region specific or can I use any radio ROM from all over the planet?
Can I run into any problems if I try to downgrade the radio ROM? If I remember correctly, there was a a lot of trouble with this in the old days when I played around with the ROMs on my Wallaby (and I still had the future ahead of me).
Olipro wrote HardSPL so that it wouldnt allow itself to be overwritten, as far as i know you can overwrite HardSPL by using SSPL (the software bootloader which runs in RAM and not from the devices flash memory area as a normal bootloader does).
Dont worry.... upgrade to HardSPL v2.10 and then you can flash any ROM you like. Some carrier RUUs wont recognise the newer SPL so might not be happy with it. Depends on what ROM you wish to use.
Radio ROMs are pretty much universal however the best ones generally acknowledged are 1.47 or 1.48 (any variant)....as newer ones are unstable and seem to use the battery alot more.
Thanks for a quick and informative reply, mrvanx. And for the brilliant guides!
However, your answer left me with a couple of other questions.

If Hard-SPL cannot be overwritten, is there ever a need for the method I linked to in my previous post? Also - I thought one of the benefits with Hard-SPL was that it can be removed (and the original BL brought back to life) by flashing an official ROM.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that if I really want to overwrite Hard-SPL, I can do so using the SSPL, but upgrading with custom ROMs having SSPL bundled with them won't mess up Hard-SPL?
Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I'm a bit afraid of bricking the Tytn I'm currently borrowing from a friend
Update to HardSPL....safe in the knowledge that you CAN revert it back to stock if you wish, the details arent necessary dude. Go for it....its the best thing to do even if you dont change the ROM since the latest radios take advantage of the faster radio flashing technique in later SPLs.
You DRAMATICALLY reduce the risk of bricking the device by flashing HardSPL first.
Were you planning on using any particular flavour of ROM?
I have a thing for details, but I'll take your word and flash the Hard-SPL

Currently I have WM5, so any WM6 would probably be an improvement. I'm hoping to be able to play around a bit with different ROMs as soon as I feel pretty safe about bricking. Some of the light ROMs look very attractive, especially these ones: K's Rom v1.30a Lite, Schap's WM6 Pro 4.30 ROM and Shamanix`s Grass v2.2.
I would also like to try the full version of both Schap's and kin0kin's. Especially the last one because of the auto installation feature.
But I haven't looked closely at all the different ROMs yet, so there might be others that suits my needs better. My only prerequisite is .NET Compact Framework 3.5. If you have a favourite, let me know

Pandora Naked 6, by far the fastest and is also very stable.
You can cook your own ROM....follow the instructions in the pandora kitchen thread...its REALLY easy.

Before I Upgrade ....

I just bought T-Mobile Ameo WM 5.0 over the ebay which was mentioned unlocked. I am using it with vodafone SIM. I am confused by reading about upgrades that it has to be unlopcked before it ca be upgraded. Does this SIM unlock is the 'unlock' required to upgrde or is it something different?
(1) How do I know that it is really unlocked, if it is different to SIM unlocking? As it is working with other than T-Mobile SIM proves it is unlocked? As different to other WM devices I have used, this is more like a PC booting up.
(2) What are the prime benefits of upgrading to WM6.0?
(3) I want to go for official upgrade (i.e. WM 6.0) than coocked ROMs as for now. Or should I jump to the latest (but coocked Wm 6.1 or WM 6.5) ROM? Do I loose any functionality in installing coocked ROM?
(4) And last, does upgrading to offical ROM (downloaded from links on the forum) will again Unlock it to T-Mobile? This may seem trivial, but I have a bit concern that as it is going to be offical upgrade, can it again lock to T-Mobile? If it does, than I will not be in a position to use it as phone unless I unlock again! This seems funny on my part, but better prevent than cure.
Thanks in advance
NO ONE AS YET? I gussed I would have received instant answers to very basic questions becaise I had just bought Ameo!

Its been a while since I did mine but will try and advise on what I can remember
1.SIM unlocking is for using other networks operators and sometimes confused with CID unlocking, I think. If your using a vodaphone sim then it is def sim unlocked but in order to get it to a safe point for upgrading ideally you need to install hardspl and cid unlock I think. There are many guides on here but you will have to search and read I'm afraid as most of us did this a while ago.
2/3.Each of the windows builds 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5 bring different things and increased functionality, 6.0 and 6.1 are worthwhile upgrades as they are both official releases, you may struggle to find a stock 6.1 for the ameo though. Again its been a long time since I used 6.1 on any of my devices, 6.5 is ok as long as you realise that its still in MS beta so you may find stuff that doesnt work or isnt perfect but it is the most up to date. Cooked roms gain or loose functionality dependant on the cook who made it and what they decided to include or remove.
4. I have never installed the stock t-mobile rom so cant tell you if it will re-lock the device but I wouldnt think so.
***Please for your own sake, read as much as you can in these forums to ensure you know what your going to do, also if you do decide to go for cooked roms make sure you use a rom suitable for your SPL****
Hope this helps

That's what I was suspecting, that SIM unlocking wasn't the unlocking required to upgrade it. Thanks for reconfirming this.
Now as there is offical WM 6.0 ROM for Ameo linked here, does that mean they (T-Mobile) have also referred their own upgrading procedure somewhere? For my Xperia X1, SE Updte utility takes care of official upgrade task, so something similar had existed sometime as there exists official T-Mobile 6.0 ROM, there must their official procedure too. I will definitely try to find it, but as yet someone had gone through it, please give some hints.
And as yet until I get a definite answer that upgrading it to offical WM 6.0 T-Mobile ROM will not lock (I mean SIM Lock) to T-Mobile again, I will prefer to defer although I am still looking to get enhanced performance, it has been with me for just a few day and I don't want to mess it up as I have slowly began to love it! Even it is like my desktop speakerphone at home / office and I have began to talk more conveniently and confortable on the desk or home. Yes, I am still not used to use it as normal small cell phone, but I hope I will gt used to it, although I find to see anything on screen during sulit days or in bright daylight.

Hi. welcome to the forum. I was new here six months ago. there is a lot of information here and you MUST take time to read and understand. not many will answer your basic questions. they is not being nasty, it is just the way it is. you must teach yourself. you will not find much (if any) information about official roms.
if you decide to try a cooked rom, Lakeman has produced a great tutorial which is stickied in this forum. It is the one I followed. here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429013
study this carefully, google anything you dont understand, dont do anything until you are sure you know what you are doing.
just to repeat what avengerpenguin said
MAKE SURE YOU USE A ROM TO SUIT YOUR SPL
good luck

to be able to flash cooked ROMs to your phone you need to hardSPL your device. HardSPl will OS unlock your device. to be able to use the best WM6.5 rom for your device you need to upgrade to SPL 3.5.
first thing you need to do:
find out what spl your device is currently using: hold down camera button (all the way down) + press the reset hole/button, keep holding down on the camera button but release the reset hole/button (keep holding on camera button until a multi colored screen comes up (then release camera button) look where it says (spl) tell us what is there.

It was 1.10 something and I upgraded to T-Mobile official WM6 ROM today without any issues and overall device is more fast and chunkier. Now it is 2.35 something.
I have however noticed two issues,
(1) HSDPA switch is enabled yet 'H' icon has gone so probably it is not connecting to HSDPA mode, I guess. I want the 'H' back.
(2) Windows Live is gone.
(3) Programs icons are noit alfabatically sorted but somehow lossely scattered.
I googled that Ameo doesn't require CID unlocked and it upgrades directly and it did via T-Mobile application which runs via USB cable.

HSDPA may be down to the age of the rom, if tmobile didnt have their HSDPA running when the rom was built may not be included in the icons etc
Windows live should be available through cab if you search or use a 3rd party app like palringo

Hi and welcome to the forum,
Now I have been using the Ameo for 2 years now, and must have flashed about every rom there is for it. So the other day I thought about going back to a stock WM6.0 T-mobile rom and try it for a few days to see how different it was to a cooked rom. Well it lasted 2 hours and I put it back to Michy's 5.1 rom. Now I'm not saying that Michy's roms are the mutts nutts of roms, that is down to personal choice, but it just proved to me why we use cooked roms. Read the WIKI, and I very much doubt you will have a fault that's not covered in that page. Also read THIS superb thread, it tells you all you need to know BE very careful when choosing a rom that you check the SPL on it, as flashing an SPL 3.5 rom onto an Ameo with another SPL will cause all sorts of problems. Like I say, Read the WIKI FIRST. take your time, and do nothing till you are sure!
Regards
Jay
Somehow I found internet access speeds even better although it doesn't display 'H' for HSDPA, because noe HD youtube videos plays smoothly with less buffering, i.e. seems good enough. Battery life has been extended.
USB host is still not good, can't retain it's status, can't load HDD or DVD or CD drives (via powered hub, offcourse)
I was just ponderind, does it drain more battery while connected to keyboard as keyboard definitely will be needing some current to drive and power to run it, that means even when it is plugged in to charger or USB to a PC, what difference does i make w.r.t time it takes to fully charge and retain there where keyboard is connected and when not?
Hi I just upgraded my Ameo using the official TMB 005 6.0 upgrade and it did not relock my sim to tmobile, my vodacom sim is still working fine, however now I want to upgrade it to 6.1 or 6.5 perhaps using a cooked ROM as i cant find an offical Tmobile upgrade to 6.1

I dont think there was an offical t mobile 6.1 release, and any 6.1 stock build will be very old now as I dont think there has been any oem development for this device for a long time.

No there wasn't a 6.1 upgrade for our device, I think they thought it such a small change that it wasn't worth it. and not long after they brought out the 16gb device.
