I'm aware that they might use a different radio protocol (AT&T uses GSM, for example), and I'm sure I could find an unlocker code.
I'm moving over to Sprint and I want to keep my Aria because I'm not really keen on spending $100+ on phones that do the same stuff if I already own one.
If I can't, which phones would you suggest? I know they have the HTC Hero on sprint, what else is there that's cheaper than that which has comparable specs to the Aria?
Sprint is CDMA. Sorry. The Sanyo Zio is only $100.00 for new customers, but if you want the familiar HTC Sense interface that you have on your Aria, you will have to shell out $150 for a Hero.

Hey guys,
I am planning on buying a htc hero on ebay and putting a virgin liberty sim in (Virgin £18+ Unlimited data). However, it is much cheaper to get a htc hero that is locked to orange of t mobile.
I have seen a few threads around saying it is do-able, and some people seem to have problems. Basically i am asking if it is always possible to unlock these phones since i don't want to end up with a very expensive paperweight?
On my last phone (htc tinitiy) it was possible to unlock it via flashing, is this possible?
Thanks!
no DIY yet
there are companys that will give you a code...at a price off course
use search in these threads....or try ebay
i have moved your question to Q&A
thanks, i dont mind paying the price, is it 100% guaranteed to unlock though? obv as i have said i don't want to end up with an expensive brick!
I heard with some of the newer Orange Models that unlock codes don't work, however, Rebelsims do work.

thanks! so have their been any known problems with TMobile?
My question is its not a 3G phone and I have AT&T here in the states. Will flashing a new ROM add 3G capabilities or is that a hardware issue?
Also can Technologists kernel be added to a stock Hero? Or do I need a custom rom?
Believe it or not, I am not new, played with HTC touch for 1 year and love xda. But still need my hand held for android yet..
I believe the problem is that the GSM here in the states uses a different radio frequency that the hardware isn't capable of switching to...that the rest of the world uses. You might want to confirm what bands China uses compared to EU and US GSM but I know the EU ones don't have full 3G here due to that issue.
yeah the Telus Hero in Canada works on AT&T's 3g but not the EU one.
Ok, well it came today and, well I now have a Tiger WG3 clone in my hands. I will send it back, but wondering how could I check the OS on it? The browsing I did has suggested its android based?
Is there something like TKE explore that will allow me to see the internals??
If this is what you've got, you've been had.
This isn't a Hero, and never will be a Hero. It doesn't/won't run Android.
Sorry!
Dave
Dave,
That looks like it for sure. Did you have one to play around with? I will send it back, but want to explore the insides abit if I can find a program to work with it.
Thanks for the reply.
No, I didn't buy one of those, but I did buy an iPhone mini "clone" because I wanted to try out the "dual sim" side of the phone. Unfortunately, it was a steam pile of dingos kidneys, and judging by the UI of the "Tiger WG3", it comes from the same family!
Hope you get your money back!
Dave
Thank god i found this post - i was about to get a tiger gw3 due to it being a dual sim phone and a hero look alike, so its true - those phones just has a pile of dingos kidneys inside.
thank you
HTC Hero Clone Running WinMo 6.5 Won't Detect SIM
Erased and put in the Q & A section instead. Sorry for putting it in the wrong place.
is that really a FM Aerial on the top of the phone?
I think you can buy HTC Hero G3 Android from china sourcinggate.com/htc-hero-g3-android-wifi-quadband-gps-smart-mobile-phone-white-p-12548.html

I think that you're about to get banned.
Ok, here is the deal...
I have access where I can buy a US Cellular branded Touch Pro for a very reasonable rate... My friend uses Sprint and has some crappy flip-phone and wants to get a touch pro (he is envious of my Fuze)...
I know it is not technically legal (did a lot of reading)... But could I program the US Cellular Touch pro with the Sprint flipphones ESN to activate it to the Sprint network? Then destroy the old phone (he hates it and wants to "kill it") Would that even work? Thanks in advance

To answer your post:
1. Yes, it can be done
2. Yes, it is highly illegal
3. No, you shouldn't be able to find the instructions on how to do it at xda (however, the instructions do exist somewhere).
4. No, don't expect any help from Sprint if you are going to be doing that (likely, you will end up doing the EPST programming by hand... not that it is complicated or anything like that, but you will not be able to get it to the store since the E$N on the back label will not match the one that will come up on the device's screen (and the reps will normally look at both).
Good luck!
I'm on T-Mobile USA. Pretty soon I want to get a new phone. Currently, I have the MyTouch4G which will go to either my mother or my girlfriend.
Now, I know of the One S coming, but in all honesty, I'm let down by it - no expandable memory, battery, and no NFC chip. I can live with the battery, but the memory and the chip break the deal. Now, I know you guys will argue the memory. Fact is, 16GB is not enough for me. I know about drop box, too. That's fine when I'm in the US and have unlimited data. It's not fine, however, when I travel to say... Nigeria and only 1GB of data costs $17. DropBox and Google Music isn't so appealing when you consider that. So, memory argument shut down.
So, that leaves me to believe that currently with T-Mobile, the total package phone is the Amaze. I root my phones, ICS and Sense 4.0 will be there either way. I have the two now on the MyTouch4G.
Now, since the One S isn't a flagship phone, do we have any speculation on what's coming after the One S? Please tell me we do...
Can the international One X work on T-Mobile USA's 4G network? I can live with the One X, but from what I understand, AT&T's One X won't work on T-Mo's 4G.
So, hit me with advice!

People don't seem to like the Amaze for whatever reason. I would wait for the samsung sg3, unless, as you seem to imply, you're htc only.
an unlocked gsm one x should work on t-mobile; double check the frequencies just to be sure.
Hi together, i just noticed that the "non-verizon branded" Version of our ADR6410 seems to be available in the wild (-> on ebay.com) ... that seems to still have the identical specs as the verizon version and NOT the down-spec'ed like that "desire vc".
appologies for just snapping the pics from an ebay-offer, but it's just to show it to you for reference! HTC logo instead of our "verizon-mark". no idea about roms or unlocks for that modified ADR6410-LRA (from my side) of course. :fingers-crossed:
according to the seller:
As you see - the unit is a "6410LRA". The "LRA" stands for "LTE Across Rural America." This was ORIGINALLY a Verizon product but it was passed on to smaller regional carriers. This unit WILL NOT, NOT, NOT, NOT work on the Verizon (or Sprint) Network - NOT! You WILL need a SIM Card from one of the Regional networks to use this phone (SIM Card NOT Included) and even then we make NO guarantees of this phone being able to work on any Carrier. There are some carriers this MIGHT work on but we don't know which ones. When a Unit is Powered Up NO Carrier logo comes on the screen.

i'm just not sure if the unluck (root etc) would work the same way. alas, not much to worry about it for myself ... since i already have my Dinc4G and here in Europe you can't buy them (regularily anyhow). was just wondering ^^
very disappointed with this phone
HTC has been disappointing me HARD as of late..
Not sure if switching back over was the right move, Samsung was great, except when they locked the s4 bootloader and there is $5,000 bounty not being claimed yet, so i doubt itll come, id rather dump this if no S-OFF and get the s4 dev edition..
I have one of these, and purchased it at an independent cell company here in east KY. So far it seems to be a good phone. Signal is good, and has all the specs I need for my use. Battery life is excellent I've been one of AT&T's faithful since the Cingular days back in the early 90's. However, just to be blunt, AT&T coverage has dropped by at least 50% over the past 5 years - hence my reason to take a stab at App Wireless App Wireless is locally owned, and actually is the oldest provider in this area. The only issue is they are somewhat higher in rates, and initial cost is higher. With that being said......
I'd love to make the switch. I still have a few months under contract with AT&T, but would be willing to pay the ETF fee. Even though App Wireless is higher in pricing, the coverage more than makes up for it. I'd much rather pay $70 for 95% coverage as to pay $50 for 50% coverage
I really need to get this thing rooted Basically just to install programs on an ext4. It surprised me as to the programs that will install to the external SD card automatically, but there are just those few that won't. Searching the forums I can't find a definitive answer on this phone. I have found where its been done on the Verizon branded, and the HTC Desire VC, plus... even the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE.
I've searched this and other forums - is there ANYWHERE posted that this phone has successfully been rooted?
Just wanted to let everyone know that I decided to be a "rabbit", and take a chance on my new HTC Desire 4G LTE - at least that's what the independent carrier calls it. It is similar to the HTC Desire VC they offer, but the specs are closer to the HTC Droid Incredible 4g LTE.
Anyway, whenever I plugged it into a program of sorts, it recognized it as the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE. The big difference being the Hinc is a model from Verizon, ADR6410VZW. Mine is a ADR6410LTA.
All of the other specs are identical with the exception of the CID. The Verizon is a VZW__001 that mosts posts say to SuperCID it to 11111111 to root, but the ADR6410LRA is a UTSI_005. Therefore a lot of the steps are not needed.
As of right now, my bootloader is unlocked, and the phone is rooted, and everything is working fine. I also installed TWRP. So....for those that have the LRA version instead of the Verizon, everything here applies and will work fine.
Thought this may help a few.
