So, hi guys I think the last time I posted on these forums I was asking some obvious "read the damn wiki noob" questions on the XDA Exec - I didn't brick it in the end, hooray!
But now I have a streak and I'm having a few issues.
I bought a 31-baseband US AT&T over eBay and unlocked it so I can use my UK Orange sim in it. That worked perfectly but it was still on 1.6 and I highly doubt Orange would be issuing an OTA froyo update any time soon.
So I tried various .pkg steps first to change the build to 4399 with a 21 baseband. Ultimately, it didn't matter what .pkg I tried, any of the dedicated custom recovery images invariably lead to a black screen and I couldn't update. That's probably me being a spazz and not reading enough, I'm not sure...
...So instead, I used the Custom 1.6 ROM from Modaco (the one with the online kitchen thread?), and it worked - I was then on 4399 with a 21 baseband, untill my friend told me he'd easily put DJ Steve's 1.5.1 ROM on it with a view to update it to 1.6.1. I hadn't heard of the DJ Steve ROM yet so I said no and he did it anyway. And that's when the bad times happened - It was in a bootloop from there.
Since then I've tried many .zip updates and many .pkg updates. Currently I'm trying to go back to the Modaco custom 1.6 ROM but it's in the second stage boot and crashing (the DELL logo flickers, then remains constant - the home and the menu button continuously flash for a while etc)...
So it's kinda bricked, and nothing I'm doing helps. Even the boot restore thing that my "friend" has for his streak hasn't done much.
I know what you guys are like with the whole "do s'moe reading, kid" thing but I honestly dunno what to do anymore. It's been like this since Tuesday and I've exhausted everything. Thankfully I don't have much of a job at the moment so I've had lots of free time to do some more googling and searching these forums for similar issues (so if I've missed a vital thread, please let me know) as well as modaco.
_any_ help would be amazing, like I say, and full of <3.
Thanks in advance guys!

QDL tool. It will put you on the 305 pre release of Froyo. From there you can jump to 318 or any of steve's froyo's. I just flashed the 322 update and went to steve's 1.7.0 and my streak is running perfectly!
But I think I'm obligated to say it. A little reading and you could have found this on your own.
Follow the link. Hope it helps!
You're very right there indeed, and funnily enough i'd even found it on the StreakMod site eventually last night when i'd assumed it was well and truly bricked. That's excellent though. Thanks very much and once again I'd like to apologise for being so shortsighted sometimes when it comes to these things.
Solved, and written on my Streak. <3
okay, i don't know if this is the right place to post this, but i have ran out of options.. i have searched and searched and still no luck.
so i have a white streak and been tryng to upgrade it to 2.1 or 2.2. followed all different guides, loaded the stock revocery img for 1.6 o2, when i try to flas hthe o2 img to o2 1.6, the process goes to about 20-40% it restarts itself and nothing happens, still back to 1.6.
okay, so i guess let's try the clockwork method, 1st time i used the 1.8.1.7 clockwork, with SteakDroid 1.9.0, it also installs half way and get a error message 7, it restarts, nothing happen..
then i tried using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1, all i get is bllank screen, (for both different img file)
so i'm thinkin, maybe i need to root the phone 1st? so i flash it with superboot, tried 2 different version, one version got me stuck on dell logo, and the other version got me nothing but keep on restarting the dell logo. now my phone wont start at all.
i guess, okay, let me give the QDL tool a try, still doesnt work.. i get:
Run HEX success
ERROR[D14]: Streaming hello Failed!
ERROR: Download fail!
Please remove the battery and try again.
over and over again..
now my streak wont even startup, any one please help!?

I just got a white dell streak on ATT too and muddled through these forums trying to figure out how to get 2.2 on it (waited several days and no over the air update)
I am now running streakmod 1.9 and i think it is all good. I'll give you quick run down of what i did to get to official ATT 2.2
1. Download the official ATT update.pkg from the Dell Streak Wiki...
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_340_14844_31.pkg
2. Place the file on the root of your sd card. Since your phone is messed up, you can just take your sd card out and load it via computer.
3. put sd card back in your phone. now turn phone back on while holding down both volume up and down buttons and power button at same time. you should come to a screen with four options. pick option 2. The update package should run and when its done, your phone will be on the official 2.2
If you want instructions after that on how to get root and custom rom on your phone let me know. That is easy too, but it took alot of messing up on my part to find the right method. Some people think it is as clear as day, but i agree the info in these forums is a little fragmented.
Good luck!
thanks for the info, now is saying FOTA name mismatch, device will restart in 30 seconds, which recovery img did you use to flash this?
i used the dell recovery. i apologize, i believe i left out a step. you n
You need to go back to stock Dell recovery. Wiki page here:

do you know how to flash recovery from fastboot?

is urs locked to ATT or unlocked? I have a white factory unlocked streak and I was able to upgrade to 2.2.2 with no problem...
im not sure if it being unlocked or not makes a difference but maybe it could.. when I get to my laptop, ill post wat I did and u can see if that works
but I can tell u I was on 305 rooted n I used QDL tool just to make sure everything was factory 305.. then downloaded the 345 AWS rom pkg from the dell wiki, renamed to Update.pkg n flashed using stock recovery n got no problems, then followed steps in the general sections to get root..
ill post the links n everything when I get home

Good point.
I didn't know they sold white unlocked streaks. Mine is ATT. If legend is using different than ATT, your probably a better help.
Everytime i get a new phone, i say i'm going to just stick with the stock software. somehow still, i always end up over at XDA complicating my life. Oh well... Thank you android...
QDL Tool

345 AWS
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak_345_15380_00.pkg
1 Turn phone off. Open qdl tool and hold VOL UP while connecting phone via usb. If you have the right drivers, qdl should recognize it. Hit RUN to flash everything and get back to a stock 305 rom.
2 Rename the 345 pkg to UPDATE.PKG and copy to ur sd card. Hold VOL UP + DOWN while turning phone on to get to recovery. Choose option 2 to flash the update.pkg. Let it run and just wait until the phone boots completely up. You will be at a stock Android 2.2.2.
If you want to root, follow the steps here...

my was a locked att version. but any how, i ended up going to best buy and did an exchange, since i got it couple days ago. then i used mongofrye's link to the 2.2 pkg file, with out flashing the recovery, just put the pkg in sdcard and upgraded it using the stock recovery img. worked in 15 mins, not i'm on 2.2! thanks for all the help guys, this thread will surely be a good reference for future flashing. cheers!
Anyone recognize this build number - 8558?
Running Android version - 2.2,
Baseband version - AUS_100908_01_BOSS_EVT3_F-US,
Kernel version - 2.6.32.9-perf,
OEM Version - AUS_100980_01_boss_evt3_froyo_release
Phone is rooted, and it says it has Clockworkmod Recovery 2.5.0.7, but when I try to reboot from ROM Manager it just boots into normal operation, if I try to boot into recovery manually, it goes to a black screen and hangs up.
By way of explanation, I just bought this Streak from eBay and want to check what I have now, before trying any customization. I've checked several sources but see no mention of a build 8558.
A follow-on question would be what is the best way to get from here to one of the custom GB ROMs?
I've found some excellent information on this forum, and have the greatest respect for all of you who contribute with such patience, wisdom, and good humor.
Thanks for any help

ROM manager does not work well with the Streak. Best bet is to use StreakMod Recovery.
By GB rom I am guessing you mean gingerbread? There is only one gingerbread rom (gingerstreak) and that is in beta. Do you mean StreakDroid? Look at the development thread for your ROM choices. For a custom ROM the best bets are StreakDroid 1.9.1 or SimpleStreak. For a stock ROM I like BB 351, others prefer 354.
See this guide for flashing a rom and see my signature for more Streak info.
marvin02,
Thank you for the good information on ClockworkMod vs. StreakMod on the Dell Streak. I'll try installing StreakMod this evening. Once I have that working I'll consider the options for a custom ROM, but lean towards the Gingerbread derivatives. My understanding is that the two most noteworthy incentives for moving from FroYo to Gingerbread are battery conservation and wifi connectivity.
I've had the Streak for about two weeks now and am delighted with the features and performance, but would like better wifi consistency.
Not to beat a dead horse, but why can't I find anything on build 8558? Is a rare hybrid, a strange service provider ???
Again, I'm grateful for the advice.

While Gingerbread may have advantages over froyo in theory, there is no 100% working GB rom for the Streak. Read the Gingerstreak thread in the dev section for more info.
As far as your build, do you know how to create a shortcut to an activity? The article I linked to shows how to use Anycut, which is s free app. Launcherpro and ADW have this feature built in. Create a shortcut to the activity DisplayVersionInfo. When you tap the shortcut you have created you will get more detailed info about your build. See the attached image. This may help someone figure out your version.
You should also contact TheManii as he is the maintainer of the Streak Wiki and has been collecting as many of the ROM files as he can. If your ROM is one that has not been seen before he will want to get the files, but you may have a customized ROM put on by a previous owner. Some of the values displayed in the Phone Info are just strings from the build.prop file and may not truly indicate what is behind the scenes.
Note : screenshots can be taken with drocap2 (check swap endian in the settings) or Screnshot by Kastorsoft if your phone is rooted.
8558 is the froyo (2.2) leak that is installed with streakflash.zip
I have a handful of leak roms but they arnt listed on the wiki as only released roms with actual rom version numbers are listed.
The streak itself is more interesting if that was what was actually preinstalled and not installed by someone after the fact. But the rom is one I already have
"Can't mount SD Card"
marvin02,
Thank you for the detailed instructions. I removed ROM Manager and used your guide to install StreakMod with fastboot. Just to be sure, I reran the rooting script using SuperOneClick ver 1.7. I verified Superuser and StreakMod were working, then downloaded, copied, and renamed the update.pkg file for build 351 on my 8Gb class 6 micro SDHC card.
Next, I reinserted the SDHC card into the Streak, and booted into recovery. All went well up to Step 11: Select option 2 on the screen..., I chose the second option and got a verification screen, and toggled to Yes. At that point I got an error message I don't understand.
"v0.3.2.8
--Installing: SDCARD:update.zip
Finding update package...
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
(No such file or directory)
Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted."
The micro SDHC card is properly inserted so I'm assuming this has something to do with how the card is partitioned, but haven't got a clue what can be done to rectify the problem.
As before, any advice is gratefully received.
you cant install pkgs with clockwork, you have to install the matching stock recovery.

To install a stock rom you must use the stock recovery, not StreakMod. This might help.
Take some time and check out the links in my signature.
Build version 8558
TheMannii,
Thanks for clarifying build number info. I wish I knew more about the history of the Streak, but I bought it secondhand after waiting too long to buy a new retail unit. I already had AT&T service, so not much was required for the swap from Blackberry. Now I'm just trying to learn a bit about how to do updates, etc.
All the old-timers on the forum have really been kind and generous with their time for a newcomer. For the encouragement as well as the help, thank you.
/me sniggers @oldtimers
Thanks all; again, you called it correctly... I mislabelled the recovery.img file. After retracing my steps all is well and 351 is running well.
All's Well That Ends Well
marvin02,
You were dead on. I mislabeled the recovery.img file, so the previous version was not overwritten. I now have build 351 up and running, and all looks good.
Thank you.
Hello. I'm a 55 year-old newbie to the wonderful world of Android, courtesy of my kid's continuously-rebooting Dell Streak 5 (AT&T, USA). It all started with the Froyo 2.2 OTA update in late 2011. The Streak would not boot after that update completed (WiFi - FIOS). We called Dell, and they advised that we Factory Reset it. That worked, and we thought all was well. Now several months later and 2000 factory resets later, my kid requested an iPhone for Christmas, and I re-claimed the Streak. I called Dell last week, and of course they wasted several hours of my time, ultimately telling me that my phone was out of warranty, but that for $249 I could buy a new phone. I advised several reps and a supervisor that Dell's OTA 2.2 update caused the problem, and that I should not be charged for any resolution to that problem. End of that story - here I am, after spending all of Saturday and most of Sunday attempting to downgrade back to 1.6. Here's what I have done:
I used SuperOneClick and successfully rooted the phone
I have used many recovery mods, ALL of which seem to lead to a black screen after selecting option 2. However, the Clockworkmod "alternate" recovery method did work. I downloaded a 4399 stock recovery zipped file, copied it to the Streak's SD card, then renamed the entire zipped file to "Update.zip". Then I used FastBoot, and flashed the Clockworkmod alternate recovery "recovery.alt.img" to the Streak. I used fastboot to reboot the Streak, then held the two Volume buttons, selected Option 2, and made my way through the awkward menu - but ultimately I was able to install "Update.zip" successfully. Upon the reboot, I am stuck with the Dell logo. I have tried factory resetting at this point, starting again from "scratch", only to return to the same old story: stuck at Dell logo. I read somewhere that it could take 10 minutes for the Streak to boot, but I have waited for 30 minutes plus.
An hour ago I was too frustrated to continue trying to downgrade to 1.6, so I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334487. I used the clockwork 3.0.1.9 recovery method, and attempted to upgrade to 2.3.?. This was not an "alternate" method (which had not worked in two days), but after flashing the recovery.img to the Streak, and using the 2.3.? "Update.pkg" on the SD card, the Streak did begin to verify the package - then it started the update, then - REBOOT. The first time this happened, I waited for 30 minutes, thinking that the upgrade was happening in the background while displaying the Dell logo, as Windows updates sometimes do. But then I yanked the battery, and started that process again. The next time and every subsequent attempt to perform this upgrade results in a reboot as the "verifying package" is occurring.
At this point I feel as though I am spinning my wheels, so I'm putting out an All Points Bulletin for some advice and/or help.
Thanks in advance! John in Dallas
John, have you tried with another update.pkg? The thread you link to is from sreak 7, could that be the issue? If I was you I would try one of the 407 deodexed ROMS from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376896
I did not realize that thread was for the Streak 7. Thanks for pointing that out. I have tried several others, but nothing like what you have provided.
Being new to this technology, I have not yet quite grasped all the terminology and theory. Can I mix and match the recovery images with the Update packages? For example, where "TheManii" states that StreakMod must be pre-installed, then he provides a (407) base_v1.zip , is it OK for me to use the Clockworkmod recovery.alt.img (which has seemingly worked well on my Streak) with his base_v1.zip? Or MUST I use the StreakMod recovery image in conjunction with his base_v1.zip?
I assume that I am supposed to follow the same procedure as before:
- Save the base_v1.zip to the Streak's SD card - renamed to "Update.zip"
- use "fastboot mode" to transfer the recovery.img from PC to the Streak
- boot the Streak into recovery mode, select option 2
- then select the recovery option to load from the "Update.zip" on the SD
How long should it take to install the base and the update?
I understand that the "base" is just that, and I will also need to flash the "update", but the other "bloat" stuff is optional.
I will give this a try shortly - then re-post. Thank you!
I am not the expert here, but from what I've gathered you need the correct recovery image only when you are flashing an official update, since those updates come as encrypted ".pkg" files. I think (please check also the threads on flashing modified ROMs) that ROMs that end on ".zip" are not encrypted and don't need a special recovery file. I hope someone with actual experience on this can confirm if I am correct.
Edit: I just notice that the thread I linked to specifies that installing the matching "pkg" is a prerequisite to installing the "zip" -- this is admittedly more complex than I thought it would be. You are probably better off just installing one of the stock ROMs first just to recover your Streak -- I had recently updated to the 407 (Korean) Gingerbread ROM and like it very much; there are instructions of puttiing it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416718
John,
To flash a stock ROM you need a stock recovery.
To flash a custom ROM you need StreakMod Recovery.
Even if the files are not altered any ROM packaged as a zip is a "custom" rom.
To get you started (and get your Streak working) you should flash a stock ROM. I recommend BB 351 as the most stable stock ROM.
Put the pkg file for 351 on the root of your SD card named update.pkg
Use fastboot to flash the 351 recovery,
Use fastboot reboot to reboot the Streak and as it reboots hold both volume buttons to get to recovery
Select option 2 to install 351.
If you decide to use a different stock ROM the instructions are the same, just use the correct files.
If you really want Gingerbread then flash the latest stock GB ROM and then install the DSC version of GB. See the DSC thread in the development section for info.
I've been looking for a downloadable "BB 351" since you posted - cannot locate it. I found the base 351 zipped file, but not the "pkg". Any hints?
Also, when I first attempted that "407 - base_v1.zip" installation, I used clockworkmod, named the base_v1.zip to "Update.zip", and it worked to a small degree. After confirming that the installation was successful, I rebooted the Streak, and after 3 minutes I saw a "O" logo with "elloh" beneath it. Unfortunately it never entered into a "home page" - but rather the Streak reverted to the Dell logo, and that was that.
You might try the links in my signature to find what you need - the wiki is a good place to start.
Edit: the reason you had no success with the zip you flashed is because a ROM flashed from a zip is incomplete. That is why you need to flash the stock rom it is based on first. The ROMs packaged as zips do not install some needed system files, that is why you see instructions to install those first.
You have more reading to do before you understand the process of updating/modding the Streak.
I did locate the BB 351 package just seconds after posting that I could not find it. I've now bookmarked it. I continue to have not-so-good luck.
On the "407" Base_v1.zip installation, suggested by the first poster, the installation went further than any other attempt. I actually saw the "O" with "olleh" beneath it onscreen for a few minutes, but then, poof, it was gone - replaced by the Dell logo. If I am successful, will the Dell logo still be displayed, or will the "O" or some other logo replace the Dell logo upon a successful installation?
After downloading the 351 package and corresponding recovery.img, I reached one point where the status indicator bar reached 100%, but then everything apparently froze. Rather than panic and quickly yank the battery, I left it alone for 15 more minutes. There was no change, so I removed the battery and started again. Now, after many more attempts, I see the "Verifying Update", and then the Streak reboots. Each time I leave it for several minutes in hope that it is installing the Update in the background. But nothing happens. Just reboot after reboot - with Dell logo.
I know that I am very close, so I am not giving up. But I am worn out - PLUS the Super Bowl is starting right now. I'll pick this up again tomorrow night.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please post - remembering that I'm a newbie and may not understand your technical slang, although I am a Telecom Engineer now working exclusively with VoIP, so I am technical. It's been fun tinkering so far, but it would be nice to reach a happy ending! Cheers.

Thanks for that tip, Marvin02. I do understand. Applying the base was step 1. I did not perform step 2: applying the update. Without the update, the base could not "launch". Unfortunately today I have returned to the wonderful world of IP Telephony, Gateways, UC, and Linux. At this moment I have no battery for the Streak, as I gave it to my daughter during the Christmas break. Yesterday I was using my son's battery, but he returned to college yesterday evening. I ordered a battery last Thursday, and it is due to arrive today. I was shocked to discover that the Streak cannot power on with only external power - it requires a battery.
I also know that I have merely scratched the surface of this technology. After I recover this Streak, I plan to install a ROM Manager, perform a backup, then experiment with other mods. But right now the mission is to revive the Streak paperweight.
Thanks!
ROM Manager and similar apps don't play well with the Streak. Don't use them.

Moving to Q&A
When you tried to install BB 407 you were installing a gingerbread ROM.
BB351 is a Froyo ROM. There have been some reports of problems reverting from GB to Froyo.
I suggest that you use fastboot to flash:
The recovery for BB 351 or BB 360
amss.mbn
dsp1.mb1
Then reboot to recovery and try installing the update.pkg.
For some reason some Streaks need the baseband files flashed first before the Froyo ROM will install properly. This happened with my Streak when reverting from GB.
blackscreen after selecting option 2
When i select option 2 from the recovery screen it is just a black screen. is there a way to fix this?
upgrade to Longthorn 2.6 is the most one I like
I flash the ROM to Longthorn 2.6. Strictly follow up the step.
My Dell Streak 5 now faster than before, no Dell Stage respone error anymore.
flashing light also resolved (read the instruction in [ROM] Longthorn 2.6 topic.)
Which is the best rom to go with?
I've downloaded _n0p_'s DSC v0.7 and Tenorntex's Longhorn 2.1 v2, seeing as these 2 were the newest and latest and had Android 2.3.3
Are there any other better rom's or has anyone tried the 2 I listed, if so whats the difference?
Thanks
Better is very vague when it comes to ROM's it all depends on what you want in a Rom. I have old Simple Streak 1.2. Yes there is newer ROM's out but this one works perfect for what I need. In my Case Stability.
DSC is the most actively developed/supported. Plenty stable for me. I don't think any of the earlier Froyo based ROMs are being developed further.
I meant as far as Stability, Performance and up to date, I don't care about the Stage UI and was gunna theme it myself or use SPB Shell 3D.
Could someone point me in the direction to an easy install rom?
I don't wanna install "these update pkg's" after renaming and then plug my phone into the pc and open cmd and then type this in on the pc. et cetera et cetera
I just wanna download a zip drag it to the card, bootup in safemode and install from sd card.
I'd consider doing all that work if I weren't testing out the device.
I won it off ebay, the guy replaced the screen and said it's been randomly rebooting ever since. But he never did a factory reset or new rom install ever since fixing the screen, so I just wanna simply install a rom and see if it works then go on from there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I do not believe that anyone can change the way that the Streak works just so it is more convenient for you or so that you don't have to learn anything.
In the time you took to navigate to XDA and make your post you could have flashed a ROM onto your Streak - plugging it in and everything.
The only ROM you can install by just putting it on the SD Card is the same one that is currently on the Streak, if you don't mind holding down a couple of buttons and using recovery mode.

If anyone is wondering why developers leave and give the site a bad reputation look no further. Someone with over 600 posts under his username should not be making noob posts like this one. With so many posts he knows how to use the search engine and the wiki, but I guess when it comes to our device using the search engine and the wiki is an inconvenience, along with renaming a file "update.pkg".

Some people learn better through interaction where they can actually ask questions... I don't have over 600 posts so who are you talking about? Furthermore if you are talking about first thing I'd do is learn how to read mr wise guy, secondly!! You tell me how one is supposed to learn which rom is the best based on user reviews and opinions, where do I go to find that out and wheres the wiki on that, unless you expect people to read 200 and 300 page threads also? I have barely 150 posts and rarely post at all unless it is to ask questions or make requests. It's not like I have 600 posts and every single one of them are questions.
This is only my second time dealing with android and second time flashing android first time it was simply moving a zip to the sdcard and booting up into safe mode and selecting update through sdcard, so certainly I'd be baffled and have questions when one time it was so easy and the second time I've gotta jump through hoops and everything.
Lastly since WHEN Is asking a Question SOOOO wrong in the Dell Streak 5 Q&A Category???? It's not like I posted it in the wrong area or something, but ohhh no'es how dare n00b be confused and need a lil help/guidance of some experienced users, ohh mercy me the drama in that!!
Last time I checked that is what XDA is here for, for people to learn, not to be attacked by asshat trolls like you.
If anyone is wondering why XDA has a multitude more lurkers than posters look no further than to the hardass that is Strephon Alkhalikoi View Postwho can't stand to see a n00b in need of help!
Like this
Flashing/Updating
Installing a recovery
Download appropriate recovery to flash from Stock Recoveries or Custom recoveries
Enter fastboot mode on your phone
Flash recovery with fastboot: fastboot flash recovery <path to recovery.img>
After flashing is complete: fastboot reboot to reboot
Finished
If you are using a custom recovery see Disabling recovery overwrite in stock roms and follow the steps there to prevent the Streak from over writing the recovery. Re-install your custom recovery after following those steps.

BUT THE VERY FIRST THING THE WIKI SAYS IS To Stay AWAY From Fastboot, but this tells you to use Fastboot... So what gives and which is it? LoL

I hope that you can actually read better than that. The wiki does not say to stay away from fastboot. It clearly states two commands that should not be used on the Streak. It goes onto give a number of examples of using fastboot.
I hope that you other 157 posts (as I wtite this) on XDA were not as tiresome or ill-informed as the ones you have posted here.
The information you need is here in the forums, available at the links in my signature, and on other forums. Please exercise some patience and read the info.

Uhh yea sory... I forgot about the 2 options to stay away from, just the dangerous part stayed with me. LoL
Do I need to be at a certain android version or can I make a semi-major update leap?
Also it says
Installing a stock rom
Reinstalling a stock rom will wipe all data!
1. Download stock rom pkg and recovery to install
2. Copy pkg to sdcard and rename to update.pkg
3. Install matching stock recovery
4. Enter recovery mode
5. After recovery loads press Camera to begin process
6. Finished

Do I need the recovery.img as well? It said nothing about a img file or anything just said "matching stock recovery" so yea, is that the right thing?

First I'm gunna try factory reset and see if that fixes the random reboot problem, hopefully it does the seller said he just installed the new screen and never did anything except for just trying to powering it up, use normally and it would reboot suddenly.
WELL NO DUH, you need to restore everything back to default settings with a factory/hard reset. Thats like trying to install a video card or webcam and expecting it to work right away without installing the dirvers. - Hopefully!
Well it's only getting as far as the dell logo screen/splash screen. I've tried the entering safe mode but nothing yet, once it's powered on it just sits at that screen.
dsc is great and very stable if you dont mind the few following quirks.
1. google maps will always run in the background unless you freeze it. This will drain your battery quite quickly
2. Wifi might or might not be broken, if it is broken use wifi analyzer if not profit
the benefits of dsc?
fast
running GB instead of froyo
dpi change is awesome.
screen default orientation is awesome
stable other than those few bugs
Battery life was decent.
-------------
Im however just running 2.2 froyo on a stock rogers. The battery life is amazing on stock 2.2 (a whole day, and still have about 30% with heavy usage and constant 3g) and the wifi works fine. For me this is the most stable rom however it is a bit slow compared to DSC. This phone is used for work so it has to just.. work.
---------------
Havent really tried the other roms yet, but depending on what you want out of the phone you can try the DSC and see if you can live with these little quirks.
Yea I was leaning more towards DSC than Longhorn, it looks like it's updated more frequently too.
Bad & Good News
Turns out when the guy replaced the screen he fried the mobo... Me and a friend at a small local pc store tried everything from rooting with new rom to factory resets. Always had the same problem.
But the guy at the pc store sells phones also and said he'd give me $100.00 credit to a new factory refirbed, rooted and unlocked dell streak mini if I gave him the one we tried to repair.
