Did you root your phone?
Check to make sure your phone is rooted
Clockwork recovery mod is installed
Have latest version of super user app installed
Later version of Busy box installed.
Then try the clockwork recovery option. All these files are available for download in android market, except for the clockwork mod tool which can be downloaded from the development section bible thread.
I figured it uninstalled rom manager and deleted all clockwork mod files then re-installed rom manager and re flashed clockwork and now it works but thanks for the reply

how can you have that clockwork mod? you need to use the rom manager then flash the clockwork mod?
i had rom manager on my phone and flashed clockwork mod but for some reason it didnt install right so i had to delete everything then reinstall it again

it worked? how did you have the clockwork mod? through the rom manager?
A lot of times if people flash back to stock, they'll use the OCLF to get the file to root the phone which'll overwrite the clockwork update.zip
Or if the update.zip was deleted, corrupted, replaced, etc.
Since we're not actually replacing the recovery, we're a little more dependent on the file remaining on the SD card, which kind of sucks, but it does make it easier to get back to full stock if you need warranty work done.
^ exactly right. Best practice is to rename the update.zip first, then rename it back. I put these steps in the sticky just in case someone reads this with the same issue.

Everything's been smooth so far in regards to my vibrant modification but I noticed something today that might cause problems in the future
Im running stock rom with kingxkernel 3 and ryans oclf
I can get into clockwork recovery through rom manager without a problem (that's how I've been doing it) but if I go into recovery mode using the hardware keys it brings me to the stock recovery..any suggestions? ??? I know in the very beginning I had to choose reinstall packages and then it showed up but I was afraid to do that again before asking in case it screws up my phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
clockwork recovery doesn't replace stock recovery on the vibrant.
If you manually enter recover, you have to do the "reinstall packages" part in the stock recovery which will then load the clockwork recovery.
Oh okay thanks for the reply!

Dont you still need the update.zip in there?

yes, you still need the clockworkmod recovery file (aka update.zip) in order to load clockworkmod recovery.

You have to select reinstall packages, and it will go to the blue recovery again, then press reinstall packages again and clockwork should boot up everytime.
So i just have to keep on reinstalling packages until cwm works?? I think i will lose my superuser etc.. What zip file do i have to put on my intrnal card?

After you used super one click root, delete that update.zip file that it places in your internal memory.
Then download rom manager, click flash clockwork-mod recovery and it should say boot into the blue recovery. In there click reinstall packages, and if it takes yiu to the blue screen again, click reinstall packages one more time and you should boot into clockwork from now on.
Ok thank you master and slave one more question do I still have to install the unzip thing from my internal sd? Or not a any more?

Since you are on 2.2, you need the modified 3e recovery. Then you should be able to get into CWM.
Or you can just use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509 and Odin back to 2.1 and not have any issues updating your ROM.
Reading all the guides helps alot with these questions.

The method I was giving you was for 2.1
Its easier to root from 2.1.
But the thread above should help
Another route around 3e recovery is to use a Voodoo kernel, because those have CWM baked right in. I recommend this because for whatever reason I couldn't get modded 3e recovery working.

odin back to stock as people have said 2.1 is easier to root and then do as ur told with root and cwr!
I've been using AmonRA recovery since I got the Optimus in December and I am comfortable with it. I've tried out Miks port of CM7 and while it's great, i sorely miss the battery performance I was getting on Froyo with Void and running 824mhz stable without any problems. That and bluetooth is sorely missed. I want to give OpenOptimus a shot, but I am extremely weary of trying to install Clockwork Mod again, because the one time I attempted it I ended up bricking my phone. Thankfully, the guy at the Tmo kiosk in the mall just gave me a new one no questions asked. I wouldn't be so hesitant to install CWM on my phone if I could install the img just like I did with AmonRA instead of trusting Rom manager to do it for me.
I don't suggest you to flash recovery via ROM manager. IMHO ClockworkMod is better, has much more options. If you'll flash the 3.1.0.0 version using my flashable zips you won't brick anything. And remember to give openOptimus a shot, you won't regret it

I'm not sure I understand correctly. I thought that clockworkmod was the recovery that is installed by Rom Manager. All of the instructions for installing CWM simply say to install Rom Manager. Ultimately, I do aim to install OpenOptimus but I need to switch from running AmonRA recovery to CWM recovery. And what exactly do you mean by flashable zip? I installed AmonRA using the ADB and an .img file. it there is a thread anywhere here that clearly details the process to install CWM recovery, please point me to it.

Do you people ever use search?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065197 - download and flash ZIP from recovery. Done.
Sorry about that. I didn't realize that you could actually flash a recovery from within the recovery. I just switched to CWM and flashed OpenOptimus. Waiting for first boot as I'm typing this.

yes a stated above u can just enter into recovery and flash any recovery u want from the link pointed out above and its safe ,since u already have recovery installed u dont need to flash recovery via rom manager and just remember that any backup taken from any recovery would be restored using the same recovery. To clear all doubts the problem has been solved and installing recovery from rom manger works flawlessly now. Note:Its advisable to use rommanager for ppl not having recovery installed just download the latest rom mager and flash choosig ur phone type.
slightly off topic, but does anyone know where I can get the T-Mobile branded P509 kdz stock firmware just in case I end up needing to roll back to stock? I can't seem to find it anywhere, the_ERROR's thread on howto is closed and the links don't work anymore.

nope its not safe at all using rom manager ~
I flashed CWM and my friend died a few days later.
So no it's not safe.
For me there are no problems with clockworkmod and RomManager. Flashed cwm via RomManager and everything is fine here.

it not about using rom manger for flashing rom ,it just to get the cwm recovery and then going into recovery and using it from there.
Many had problems flashing rom from clockwork so that not advisable but installing cwm is fine 100% sure
M happy with CWM
Don't use tricks like ROM Manager... It's just matter of learning to use a recovery, not that difficult.. just IMHO
You just need to use ROM manager Once to get recovery. After that you can delete the program and enjoy the CWM recovery.
I have been there, I have done it, You do want it
CWM works beautifully without problems..
I use rom manager just to reboot to recovery, as i am too lazy to use the 3 button combo to goto recovery.
Flashed ROMs and zips with CWM. 100 % safe untill now..
The new updared Rom Manager has solved that issue.

How much I've learned in just a month!
I can't believe I had to ask that question. I know now that there are numerous ways to flash recoveries. My personal preference is to do it manually using the adb.

No, it is not 100% fine, in fact it lacks any sanity checks whatsoever.
Just flash CWM through your current recovery and you'll be fine. It's by far the safest method. If you flash through ROM Manager and after reboot you get stuck in fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015332 ... happened to me, unbricked it with some slight changes to the tutorial. Nothing important.
PS: If you don't use Rom Manager you can always do a $su then #reboot recovery in a terminal (Downloadable from market) to reboot directly to recovery.
So Im trying to install a custom Rom from stock on my homie's Vibrant but I noticed the free Rom Manager app is absent from the Market. The licence for the Premium version is there and you can download it but the free version has to be installed first. I tried pulling the one from my Vibrant and tried to install it in the now rooted stock Vibrant but it wont install and Im not even sure if you could do that anyways. I also tried just installing Clockwork Mod by renaming the zip file update.zip and flashing it with the stock recovery and I was able to get it to the "green" cwm recovery screen but everytime I tried to either wipe the catche or try to flash the custom Rom it would just freeze. Is there a work aroud to this. Thx in advance.

Was happening with me too yesterday. You need 1.7 mb update.zip file I believe. Return to jfd through odin and then go from there.
Same thing happened to me yesterday after a disastrous flash and an Odin back to stock!
Luckily I was able to Bluetooth the apk to myself from my wifes phone.

if I am not mistaken, I notice that noob guide does flash CWR (method B) but it does not root the android phone since there is no ROM Manager installed.
I want to try and get the cyanogenmod 10.1 ROM on my phone, but I just tried it through TWRP and it didn't work (kept getting Service Wizard and Gapps not working in beginning). I looked through the forum right here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121931
and post #5 said it can't be flashed through TWRP. So, now I want to get rid of TWRP and try to use clockwork recovery mod in order to install the ROM. How would I go on about deleting TWRP and installing clockwork recovery mod?
You can install ROM Manager and install Clockwork Mod through there, although I have flashed clockwork mod from TWRP and vice versa before.
I have no idea why but the cyanogemod won't install, and it keeps falling on clock work, I even tried the older versions from 4/20/13. Have no idea what to do now

This is the Verizon Note 2 sub-section. You might want to try in the HTC One, and get better/faster responses.
