Hello guys and gals,
Yesterday I sold all 3 EVOS from my Sprint line and ditched Sprint all together. Now I am on Virgin Mobile with the LG Optimus V. I have been researching the Optimus One P500 forums and there seems to be some conflicting information as far as rooting is concerned and I wanted to make sure I get this right.
Here is the information regarding my Optimus V:
Model Number - VM670
Android Version - 2.2.1
Baseband Version - VM670ZV4_60401001
Kernel Version - 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #4
Build Number - FRG83
SW Version - VM670Z4
HW Version - 1.2
Going by the information I provided above, what would be the route to take in order to root my phone?
Thanks people! Yes, I know about the search function, but it sort of leads me everywhere with conflicting information and I don't want to screw this up. THANKS AGAIN!
Firstly - Virgin Mobile is a subsidiary of Sprint - so you are still on Sprint
I think the best way to do it is with SuperOneclick. I tried to use z4root, and it didn't work for me with the Optimus V. (Some said that it works with the S, but I've yet to see someone have success with the V).
Since I'm a new user I'm not able to include a link, but google "optimus v root site:androidcentral.com". The first hit will be a post by RevolutionRed named "[How-To] Root the LG Optimus V" in the forum section. I followed those steps without a problem.
*note that I used SuperOneClick 1.7, which was more recent than what they suggested.
I recently bought my new LG Optimus Net Dual P698...
I was searching for rooting my device and installing custom and new roms (including new one = ICS)...
I found this site... unlockroot.com
but I'm little confused about rooting... can anybody help me out there... and I dont want to loose my SD Data and warranty on LG device while rooting... Or should I wait till my warranty goes off...
And some words like rooting, flashing and kernels, roms... I was using nokia n85 from 2 years and know about patches and cracks and hacks... bt never flashed rom in nokia... for android please these meanings are same ????
And please provide rooting info and roms for lg p698 and installation process...
If there are sites for all roots, roms, hacks on LG P698 then please provide me...
Thanks in adv...

For rooting, just follow the steps here. As for custom roms, haven't seen one yet. Custom Recovery for P690 still has to be verified if it'll work with P698.

I confirm the existing CWM Recovery brick my P698 today. I send it back to LG SC and may get one replacement. Root is OK but NEVER flash recovery.

True, but at least it raises the hope that we'll soon get a ROM for P698 too.

At last! I tired a new rom in our p698!!
Both run adw launcher is pretty cool. But personally I did not like both. One could see the battery drain in numbers, which was horrifying!
Moreover, has it ever occurred that when you are running a launcher, the phone does not sleep how long it takes or press the power button? It happens to me occasionally, and goes to sleep only if I call the LG home launcher. Does anyone know a way out?

Hey ppl, the rom from borodinka is pretty good. I've been on it and has been running smooth, much better than the stock kernel.

please update us on the custom rom, how smooth is it, and how is battery life and dual sim functionality.
what of the usual delay in making and ending calls?

OK, update on the ROMS i tried...
the one named "borodinka"
pros:
1. the roms are smaller than the stock ones, and hence got a bit more storage space free.
2. Very very smooth. ADW launcher is built in. The whole thing, including menus are smooth
3. Looks like battery life improved a bit. I remeber draining out by night, but now it stays till morining with an overnight charge
4. No Bloatware. ES FIle explorer, MX Player are built in
5. Some kind of a techie font. not sure which one. but good/you'll get used to it.
cons:
1. Phone does not lock initially. Had to install LG Home Launcher from apk i found somewhere else in the forum to get it lock. Same happens initially after every reboot. Looks like something in the LG Home is responsible for sending the phone to sleep or so.
2. no native support for PDFs (very important for me) in ES File Explorer, i wish it was AntTek File Explorer. Both the file manager and the video player are better in the SD Card (which is not possible since it comes shipped with) to save space.
3. Sometimes loses range on either or both SIMs (which was probably there with the stock ROM and thus) might be a hardware issue.
4. Touchpal keyboard seems to have issues lately. Does not show up (and renders the phone crazy) after trying to import contacts. maybe it has to do with the latest update of the app, or lack of storage in my phone.
5. has 4pda app (and that too in german) preinstalled.
6. Default APNs are not available in the apn editing page. Had to enter stuff manually. Had data connection problem once, but got it running after a factory reset.
The other one, the name which skips my mind now, has similar characteristics, which i'll review soon.
Dual sim function works as old. The Cell broadcast widget and the dual sim status widget are unavailable. Range failures are present, i guess, as in most dual sim phones.
hi to all, i am using lg optimus g e975 Korean in Pakistan. android 4.1.2 installed on it. now i want to upgrade it to higher version. I tried LG Support Tools, it find an upgrade foe my cell phone but after downloading a large file when it start upgrading process and my phone goes into downloading mod it gave error that please remove your battery and then insert it again and then try again... i tried many time but same error.. i actually want to upgrade my android software to kitkat 4.4 is it possible? if possible then what is the best and safe way to upgrade my lg optimus g e975... thanks ..
There's no official Kit Kat for your phone. You would have to use a custom rom like CyanogenMod or something along those lines. The LG Support Tools sucks. You should try using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498102
I gave you the link to the latest KDZ (official firmware) for the Indian version in your other thread. I'm also not sure if many custom roms support the language you are looking for either. Basically you would want to root (Safe Root or Framaroot should work) then use FreeGee to unlock bootloader and install custom recovery. Then boot to recovery, backup rom, and wipe, and install new one.
I have just rooted my phone and installed cwm , i need to install any custom rom on my lg optimus l7 p715, is it necessary to unlock the bootloader for that ??
, if yes
then is there any way to unlock bootloader on lg optimus l7 p715 or to know if its already locked or unlocked ??

If you already have CWM installed, then you're all set to install the custom ROM. Just make sure to run the Nandroid backup from CWM before the upgrade (better safe than sorry).

It means you have replaced the recovery to one that allows you to upgrade your ROM among other things (CWM that is).
Regarding custom ROMs - that's the big question: There are nearly no custom ROMs for this device, or rather to the L7 II series. If you browse the Android development section, you'll find some custom ROMs, but they are all based on the current 4.1.2 one. There's also an MIUI ROM for your device, about which you can read at the end of this thread. According to other threads here, LG has announced it would upgrade the L7 II series to KitKat somewhere round August (which should be any time now), so I guess the best thing to do would be to wait for it (as I do).
