Boot animation - Vibrant Themes and Apps

The thread I got the idea from can be found here: Credit goes to Gla'DOS for the scribble boot animation.

I'm not sure if 2.1 builds support bootanimation.zip files so I extracted the png's, renamed them, edited the .cfg file and it works flawlessly on my phone.
In the provided zip is the shutdown.png files, the .cfg file and a readme file. The readme file explains how I did it so everyone can do it.
This is a shutdown animation only.
Here is the zip that contains everything, enjoy!

So basically you converted the stuff from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8813403&postcount=2
To make a shutdown image?

That's correct. I was going to mention your name in the OP but I wasn't sure if you were the original creator of the scribble animation, my apologies if you were.

great,i was wondering how to extract boot animations. i rly like the the one with the android logo and a green flash type of thing moving in the back ground.

Yeah its very easy to do. I was searching other forums last night and have a whole bunch of bootanimation.zip files I'm going to convert. I'll post them when I'm done.

No boot video at all...
Is it possible to get rid of the animation altogether and display the Android equivalent of a POST screen, so we can see things getting loaded/activated as it boots?

Only problem with that is the BOOT animation's are not png files rather than qmg files and those are proprietary samsung files I believe. I've read a couple different threads on different boards and it looks like editing qmg files proves to be very difficult.

If you look in the Vibrant Bible sticky on the Development section of Samsung Vibrant, toward the bottom of the OP is the link for the custom boot animation. It's a Think Tank... no one has fully figured it out but it's well on its way to being cracked I'm sure.
Shutdown files are simply PNG files renamed to 'shutdown_##' placed in a folder named shutdown with a cfg file telling it how many frames to run.
Boot animation files they've figured you can create an uncompressed .zip file, place it in the system/media folder and a desc.txt file telling it resolution and how to run.

[Q] Replacing boot animation

I've tried following instructions for replacing the boot animation that say to go to system\media and replace bootanimation.zip. This doesn't seem to do anything. First, I don't have a bootanimation.zip file in that directory, just qmg files. And when I put bootanimation.zip in that file it has no effect.
Is there something I'm missing? I'm rooted, running the stock rom.

I believe you need a kernel which supports custom bootanimations. Try ChainFire's kernels on XDA.

Questions = Q&A
Bootanimation stock is QMG
To add a custom boot animation you require a kernel that supports it .
You would be far better off reading the FAQS and Guides before attempting to do stuff that may brick your phone and leave you with no warranty .
jje
meh, not worth the trouble to replace the kernel. It's strange that the four tutorials I looked at that detail how to install a custom boot animation never even mention needing anything other than root access. No mention of kernels or custom roms, etc.
Did anybody ever figure out the qmg format? I saw a couple threads on it, but they're from 2010 and never seem to get beyond decoding the file header.
No free editor found for QMG files .Though at least one modified QMG posted on XDA .

How to apply Bootanimations to Rooted Evo LTE

Okay. First thanks to neutopian for the link. First thing you want to do is go and download the boot animation that you prefer from:
http://tinyurl.com/co9ulfv Not sure if you can post the full links here but at least this one is clickable?
(One of the bootanimations I clicked on was bogus so use your brain. The next three brought me right to the file download without visiting a website first.) Then go into ES file explorer On your phone and go into settings and make it writable by placing a check next to Root Explorer and Mount File System. Next I found the downloaded file and clicked into it and clicked Data then Local and found the actual boot animation zip and copied it to the root of the SD card so it would be easy to find. After that I renamed that file to SPC_bootanimation.zip. Now you go into system/customize/resource and delete the file labeled as SPC_bootanimation.(I saved a copy first and this must be done before you copy the file you're pasting in there. Don't know why but once I copied I couldn't delete the stock _bootanimation.zip file). Then I went back to the sd card and copied the renamed SPC_bootanimation file and pasted it in the resource directory where i deleted the original. Bingo, reboot and you will see your new animation. I did all of these steps in ES File Explorer.
Your folder may be in system/media depending on which rom you're using. I am on stock/ ultra smooth lscape Rosie by flex360.
P.S. the way I was messing up first was I was trying to rename the file I downloaded to spc_bootanimation not the bootanimation.zip file located inside of that original download in the Data/Local directory.
Also, I'm not an English major by any means, so if something is spelled incorrectly or the proper grammar wasn't used, sorry. I'm not looking for a lesson just looking to help out. heck if it's bad enough, just click on the donation tab next to my name and maybe I can afford some classes.
I'm using the bluplazmall boot animation. Looks really good.

the easiest way to find out where the bootanimation goes is by looking at the default.xml in system/customize/CID
.
some devs not all change the location and names of their bootanimtions(no motter what rom i run i change mine to bootanimation in the defaut xml and name my animations that)

Try renaming whatever bootani to that anyway and put it there. Might still work.... Can't hurt, right?

Can someone check my custom boot animation? Not loading...

Hi, I've followed the instructions from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321360
Not only do I not get my boot and down animations to not work, now they are showing different text from the original Mean ROM animations that I backed up, now the say "Androi"d on booting and "Powering Down", I haven't seen this is any of my searching...
I've checked the default.xml file and they point to the regular System/Customize/Resource folders.
Zips work in the boot animation factory.
My png files are 360x640 and the desc files are listed as 720x1080 (all portrait files) including blank space at the end
Files are named: SPC_bootanimation.zip and SPC_downanimation.zip
Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/zz44x927cpobbzv/SPC_bootanimation.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u6ujepb9vvxwhyy/SPC_downanimation.zip
Edit: just checked my file permission: rw-,r--,r-- still no change.
Hmm maybe this should be in the Q&A forum, mod please move if appropriate. thanks!
I'll take a look at it in about an hour

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that zip is 258mb
for a bootani wtf whats in there???
lol thanks for checking...I got about 40 seconds of 360x640 frames at 30fps. When I extracted frames from a GIF for the down animation, the files were small. but when I extracted frames from a downloaded youtube clip, they all became bitmap images and exploded in size.
try this
Thanks Dased14 so I downloaded the bootanimation.zip file
I was curious about the format and so I booted into HBoot->TWRP recovery and installed that, it said successful however there was no change to the boot/down animation.
Then I recalled some people putting the bootanimation.zip file in their System\Media\ folder (likely for other devices) but I did it anyways and confirmed permissions were correct: rw-,r--,r--
The interesting change this time is there was no "Android" text on boot and "Powering Down" on down...just black screen
What do you think I can try next...
Or did I fail loading the bootanimation.zip file to the device. here's some supporting info I guess.

and not to burst you bubble but that boot anim is massive and i mean massive... I just made on recently and slimmed it down to 125mb which is huge and 258mb is extremely large your sucking up your system partition space and memory.
Just made this one like 5 days ago best bet is to remove every other image... I batched it out in ps to change the names to single digitis with an action and then use batch to remove the odd numbers... Thats what I did but your best bet is probably to just remove them by hand every odd image remove it out... Originally this boot animation was 540mb and i got it down to 120 and I did that through winoptpng and removing images... Remember dont opt regular black images b/c they'll index... Enjoy that tid bit of information..
I slimmed it down to 21mb for him

yup total file from dased14 was 40MB for both files vs my 258MB + 3MB...still scratching my head here.
Good tip though.
I re-installed in custom recovery and cleared cache. Default Android text is on boot animation. Shut down is black screen only.
Might be a meanrom thing you can try unzipping the rom chamging out the two zips and dirty flash the rom

This tool helped me get my last boot animation to work. Maybe it will do the trick for you.
Woohoo! dirty copy into System/Customize/Resource worked! I also have a feeling I may have borked a setting or the fact that I created a .old file might have messed things up.
Updated to the new MeanBean ROM and then proceeded with copying the files over and both files worked great! Thanks for slimming down the files!

[BOOTANIMATIONS] Samsung Galaxy S5 BIOS Boot Animation [1080x1920]

Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting here so hello to everyone!
I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S5 after having iPhones for years and I haven't stopped using it since. I was looking into boot animations and I saw all the BIOS boot animations but realized that no one had created one for the Galaxy S5 yet. Because of that I made one myself specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S5 meaning that all the files are in the QMG format and not the typical bootanimation.zip style. Attached to this post are two zip archives containing the animation file. Both attachments are the same animation but one runs at 18FPS while the other runs at 22FPS. This way in-case your phone boots slower or faster than mine there will be time to completely finish the animation.
I also have it rendered at all different framerates from 5 to 60 so if you need it somewhere else let me know.
Let me know what you think as I plan on making a more unique animation in the future!
How to Install (Device Must be Rooted):
1.Download bootsamsung.qmg file to device
2. Go to system/media
3. Rename the existing bootsamsung.qmg to bootsamsungOld.qmg or something else (do not delete)
4. Rename bootsamsungloop.qmg to bootsamsungloopOld.qmg or something else (carrier animation, can delete if do not want)
5. Place the bootsamsung.qmg file you downloaded into here
6. Change the permissions of the bootsamsung.qmg file to: Owner: read, write Group: read Others: read
7. Reboot your phone and see if it works!
Since I am a new user I can't put images or a video preview here due to them being external links.
Below in attachments along with the animation files there will also be another zip archive containing a GIF preview and two pictures.
***EDIT***
Also in the attached files you will find bootanimation.zip which is the animation files for phones that dont use the Samsung .QMG file format. Note that it is still at 1080x1920 in terms of resolution and will play at 18FPS until you modify the desc.txt
Thanks, PDrizzly

I am having trouble getting this to work on AllianceRom. The animation stops at the 12th picture and it just freezes there until the boot cycle completes. After applying the boot animation I can look into the zip archive and every png file from number 13 on is 0kb in size.
Just for some more information I have tried applying the boot animation by flashing via Rom Manager, using Rom Toolbox (Boot Animations), and by manually placing the bootanimation.zip in the system\media directory. When I manually place the zip file in (and adjust permissions), the boot screen is just black. Nothing shows up. Every other boot animation I have tried seems to work just fine. This is the only one giving me trouble.
Any advice?
Thank you.

[HowTo] Change Bolt Boot Animations

Very simple and most know how but here's a breif walk through and a place all can share boot animation zips.
The zip will need to be renamed procicely the same as the one you are replacing.
Using a Root file manager go to the following directory:
/system/customize/resoucre/
These are the animation files below and a breif discription. Back the original up/disable by renaming it something like ( orig.sprint_bootup.zip or xxxsprint_bootup.zip )
i like to use the xxx method to force them alphabetically to the bottom of the directory to keep track of them.
1.) sprint_bootup.zip
#sprint logo during boot up
2.) sprint_shutdown.zip
#sprint logo shutting down phone
3.) hTC_bootup.zip
#preloaded htc boot up animations
4.) hTC_downanimation.zip
#preloaded htc shut down animation
5.) BM_startup_animation.zip
#preloaded htc boot up animation.
There also is 1 png file that is the 2nd wallpaper shown after the initial boot up HTC screen that has red text indicating your phone has been modified. The 1st screen / red text can not be removed here.
Png file = splash_screen.png
Please feel free to post links of your favorite boot animations and issues/questions you may have.
GoodLuck!

There's a ton of bootanimation.zips around here on xda. I know rom toolbox has a ton. Just rename the stock one or delete it and put new one in its place with same name.
Ok so if im understanding. I want to keep the stock bolt bootup anymation just wanna get rid of the sprint one. Can i just delete the one from sprint and leave the other one?
