[Q] Can't setup exchange acct. with kaosfroyo - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I've finally gotten around to rooting my eris and installing kaosfroyo, and I've gotta say, there's a night and day difference between what it used to be and what it is now. Kudos to everyone who has made this process possible and as simple as it is!
Anyhow, I do have one problem. When I go into accounts to try to add a corporate (Exchange) account, I enter my information and the phone says "Retrieving account information" for a minute, then pops up an error message that says "Setup could not finish - Username or password incorrect"
I seem to recall it not being able to connect automatically on the OTA 2.1 ROM, either, but in that case I had a manual override option where I could go in and set the settings manually. Now that option seems to be missing (though I've seen people mention it, so it should be there somewhere).
I also have an iPod Touch that ActiveSync works with, albeit I have to enter the server name (I still haven't figured out why autodiscover isn't working for ActiveSync), so I know that the server is correctly configured at the moment.
Suggestions? I'm at my wits end.
Thanks in advance!

The email app has been recently updated & has a quirk or two. I have found occasionally that I need to go into the account settings of the email program & reenter the password to get things to work. Especially right after setting it up.
Basic installation hints:
1. your user name should have the domain in front of it. i.e. domain/username
2. be sure to put the full server name in the server name box (seems strange to say as I type this, lol) i.e. em.whitehouse.com It is the "em" bit that varies from company to company - ours uses "em" for exchange mail. It just depends on the naming system yout it department uses. your iTouch may have it under it's settings. be sure not to use "owa" - that is a webserver.
But as I said, somettimes you may have everything set up correctly & still need to reenter the password.
Good luck.

The issue was that it was sending me back to the original screen that asked for the email address and password after the error message. I never could get to the screen where it asked for the domain\username and server address, and it would refuse to create the account without that info, so I couldn't go back and edit anything.
I say was, however because it's arbitrarily started working. I tried to run through the setup procedure again, and it gave me the screen that asks for that info. I have no idea why... I didn't change anything on my phone (that I'm aware of), and nothing changed on the exchange server (I'm the exchange admin), so I haven't a clue what happened.
All I can say is that I'm happy that it's working now. Thanks again!

Voodoo happens...
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App

I had the same problem on an original gingerbread install. In short the solution is to reboot the phone.
In long: I was simultaneously reading about push mail and how it keeps a persistent connection to the server to receive notifications about new mail. So suddenly it ocurred to me that maybe it was hanging on the the wrong server connection because it was a persistent connection in memory. And indeed, after rebooting the phone I was prompted again with the server settings.
Hope this helps.

TC Touch Pro W/ WM 6.5 mod hard resets at lock creen

I have a sprint HTC TP that i have modded with numerous different WM 6.5 ROM's. After the flash is complete i usually sync the phone with the exchange server at my office to get my contacts, email, etc. The exchange server forces me to use a simple password to lock my phone after 15 minutes so in the event its stolen after 10 failed attempts at entering the password it will wipe the phone. WM 6.5 automatically enables the slide lock so when my phone is off for a period of time it locks via the windows slide lock and the exchange simple lock. every few days when i turn on my phone i get a message that the device will be erased after the next unsuccessful logon attempt also the swipe lock button says slideslide and doesnt work. I have to perform a soft reset and when the phone boots back up it erases everything including my SD card. Any help would be appreciated. I have tried Juicy 7, db and a few others but i dont have their names. They all produce the same errors. Im trying not synching my exchange account to see if the simple password is the culprit. Any help would be appreciated.

I use this rom and it doesn't SLIDE lock when i turn the screen off... It goes right back to the home screen.... So it might help you.
Its funny you mention that ROM because thats the exact one im currently using and on my phone it does automatically use the slide lock.
The lock feature in WM6.5 has been an issue since the start. I have seen a few roms in BA and Fuze that work rather well with it (including with the exchange server), but I have seen a crap-load of reports from people with similar issues to yours. I don't know how far advanced the 6.5 development is for the Herman, but if I were you I would probably stick to Mighty 4 Reborn, Fallen 2.1, or some other 6.1 rom. Stay away from 6.5 if you must use the rom for heavy, work-related, daily use.
Also, take out the SD card before SR if you see that the phone is telling you that it will format your storage. Good luck!
Thanks egzthunder1 i think thats what ill have to do.
JSYK i did some additional testing and the culprit appears to be active sync. I set up the lock using a simple password and had no problems. Then i added gmail account with lock and also had no problems. I connected to exchange server with direct push and the problem started re-occuring.
same issue

I got exactly same issue you had. My phone is from Bell and had no problem with mighty 4.16 and original ROM. It just happen on Mighty 5 and doesn't matter which build. the latest one I tried was 21234.
Another thing I figured out was it happen on every Monday night around 8:00PM to 10:00PM. If anyone know how to fix or solution. that will be appreciated.
This happens very often
Hi,
this is phone independent issue,
I've already opened thread for it - till now no solution:

Sync will no longer connect to Exchange

Hmm, this is really bugging me now.
Hero has been running Exchange sync perfectly for a couple of weeks, but today it went AWOL and stopped connecting.
I rebooted the router (because I work from home and use the phone and laptop over wi-fi), but this didn't cure it.
Decided to shut down Outlook on my laptop (which was working perfectly anyway) and disconnect the VPN, then re-connect and see if my laptop would have the same problem as my Hero. Launched the VPN and it asked me to reset my password (usually due to our 90 day expiry policy) - okay, I changed the password and it connected fine, and Outlook appeared perfectly as it should. But the Hero still wouldn't connect, using both the original password and the new one (not that I expected this to change anything anyway).
The error I get (whatever I do) is "Authenticaion failed. Please verify username and/or password."
Got really irritated with this and deleted the account. Set it back up from scratch and still the same error.
Got even more irritated, remembering how the Hero seems to allow some people to only set up Exchange and Gmail accounts when they first set up the phone, i.e. during the "out the box" setting up stage. Figured I may have to do a factory reset, but had an idea ... download RoadSync and set up my account as usual ... same error even with this!!!! Aaarrgghghh!
All this after I've been signing the praises of the little Hero.
Does anyone have a fix? HTC can't help. My office say nothing has changed on Exchange. Any ideas?
Thanks
SC
Now fixed and working again.
Asked the office IT guys to change my password. It must have overwritten some kind of password corruption caused by me doing remotely, even though I've done it that was for the last 18 months.
Anyway, if people are having an Exchange authentication problem via Hero sync, it may be worth asking your IT people to change the password.

[Q] Possible virus on phone hotmail stopped working and prob with wifi(hd2)

I have not installed and i've done nothing but a few days ago the first thing i noticed go wrong was the wifi. When connected and I run fring (which I’ve always used) the wifi logs off and when i try to reconnect it asks for a wep key(even without fring all wifi hotspots are deleted from memory).
First prob wep key is being deleted from memory all the time.
Hotmail when i touch the mail icon on home page it takes me to my 3 hotmail account like it should but when you touch the email to go in to the account nothing happens (same on all 3 accounts). Next i went in to settings to have a look and the server setting have all been deleted both outgoing and incoming and also the hotmail.com part of the address had been deleted and instead for a 9 dig password it had been replaced by an 18 dig password.
So i changed all the setting back and great straight into my account downloaded and uploaded fine. Turned the phone off and back on again............ yep bang all the setting had gone again.
Anyone had this or heard of it or knows what to do
Thanks
Sorry to hear about your issue.
A few questions:
Does your data connection remain active?
Does your phone try to dial a random number?
And how many times have you repeated this issue?
I don't use fring but it could be an application glitch. Reinstalling it or hard reset (last resort) may help. I presume youve already changed your hotmail passwords.
Hi
Thanks for the reply
The data connection is turned off
The wifi is turned on and stays on it just drops connection and when you try to reconnect the wep key has gone from the memory.
I have now uninstalled fring and still have all the same problems (wep key and hotmail server info being deleted (server info smtp and pop3 +passwords))
Do a hard reset and see if it persists. If it does, task 29 the phone and reinstall a fresh rom and radio and all should be well.

[Q] Too many failed tries

Greetings,
Yesterday a friend of mine tried to unlock my other friend's Evo 3D, which was secured by a lockscreen pattern.
He managed to fail too often and now it needs to be reset via the Google-Account.
You can still access camera and can be called, but she cannot access any other feature, including opening the status bar.
Unfortunately, the unlock does not work. After entering username/password it says "Invalid username or password" (in German)
She is absolutely sure, that the Google Account she entered is the one she was using on that phone.
Also, she reset her Google password after that happened because she wasn't too sure about the old password. So I guess the phone somehow needs to connect to the internet to know about the current password (otherwise she needs to use the old password, right?)
She can log in on Google and access the Play Store on her Notebook though, but somehow no Apps show up on there.
I can access the Bootloader, but when trying to enter Recovery the phone displays an image of a phone icon with a red warning triangle with a exclamation mark in it (see attachment)
The phone then doesn't reply to any input, so I have to take out the battery and reinsert it.
USB debugging is not activated, so I guess any way over adb doesn't work?
My question here is: Are there any ways to restoring the phone without losing her contacts, messages etc.?
If not I think a factory reset from the bootloader at least would get her phone working again.
Thanks in advance!
I heard Samsung phones compare the Google username and password with the Google-Account on the device, that way the phone doesn't need an internet connection for verification. This also means the new Google password will not work - it must be the old one! I guess HTC does the same, so keep that in mind.
Perhaps you also need to enter the EXACT same username. The google account creation on android accepts "username", "[email protected]", "[email protected]". So maybe the phone is registered for "[email protected]" but you only enter "user" in the username field?
I hope this helps!

She already tried using the old password (and others) and is always using her full accountname ([email protected]), and it still doesn't work :/ thanks for the response, though!
Any other tips?
Edit: Turns out she was using a wrong account... now she's got the right one, where her Apps show up on Play Store on her laptop.
Unfortunately, it still won't work. She has never changed her password on that account.
Edit 2: She did a factory reset now, because she didn't want to wait anymore. So I guess this can be closed, thanks for the help though!

[Q] Stuck after Factory Reset - Email Authentication (Galaxy Core Prime)

Hello guys!
I work at a smartphone repair shop fixing phones both hardware and software issues. A customer came in yesterday, they just bought a Galaxy Core Prime from T-Mobile (SM-G360T). The same day she was partying, setup a password to unlock the screen and couldn't remember it the next day.
I told her I could remove the password however she would lose pics & docs since we had to do a factory reset.
A few hours later she came back in and showed me this weird loop the phone is going thru. It asks to setup a Wi-Fi and enter her gmail account. Upon entering the gmail account it goes back to same screen to accept terms, enter Wi-Fi, etc.
I concluded this is the copy of Apple's iCloud lock, obviously, albeit it seems filled with bugs. If that is the case then what is the website I can go to remove the lock - same thing as going into iCloud.com and removing "Find my iPhone" - that would remove the lock for android? Does google even allow removing of this feature online?
I have checked email/pass the information is legit, all the email notifications are there.
My other alternative is download a different ROM (since I can't find the T-Mobile one, seems it just came out - SM-G360T) and try restoring via ODIN, however, I'm not sure it will work since I've done a factory reset, thus removing USB Debugging.
Help me out if possible guys, thanks in advance!

If it was her Google password that was reset, you must wait 72 hours before factory resetting after changing the Google password. That's what this sounds like. Try entering the old password or wait 72 hours.

The password was never reset though, she had the same password before even purchasing the phone. Does that 72 hr thing still apply? I'm just confused as to why there's no place to deactivate this like in iCloud's "Find my iPhone". I can access the account, have searched all settings, I even get the notification email when I login from the phone itself, but it just goes back to terms, wi-fi, enter email, repeat. LOL
I'm guessing the T-Mobile variant is brand-new as well (SM-G360T) since I can find many other ROMs but none for the G360T.
Oh well I'll wait til the 72hr period or ROM shows up, thanks for the help :good:
Hi I hv a similar problem I forgot my pin on my galazy core prime so I did a hard reset. Then on log in I couldn't remebber my google password so I changed it via laptop. But it wont let me log in still. I can access google account on laptop etc what is going on please help
I need help I have factory reset my Samsung galaxy core prime and I keep going to put my Google account in but nothing it keeps going back saying please enter a email that was recently linked which I keep doing and nothing it's just keeps going back can u please help
Galaxy Core Prime Looping Hell
The phones keep looping back to the login screen beacuse of a security feature put in place by samsung. We must contact them directly and submit proof of ownership ( proof of activation or copy of receipt) in order for them to disable this security feature. The number to call is 800-726-7864.
you can remove that device from this account.
