[Q] Problems rooting fascinate and applying voodoo - Fascinate Android Development

Hoping for some assistance in troubleshooting here, successfully rooted my phone and attempted to flash voodoo using the methods described in the following thread:
HOW TO: Root, Install Clockwork, Safely Remove Bloatware, Integrate Google
To my knowledge everything worked as described until I attempted to install voodoo. Upon doing so the phone booted very quickly back into what appeared to be the stock kernel/system. I lost my superuser.apk application but still retained the su and busybox files on my sd card. I have cwmod installed and can access it but the voodoo install appeared to have failed.
My problem is that I believe the device is still rooted, because when I launch adb shell it presents a # prompt, but when I attempt to perform a factory reset (I would like to start the whole process over) the procedure errors out with the message that partitioning failed and E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (Invalid argument).
I've tried the fix permissions and format SD card options within CW recovery without any luck (the only result is that now I don't seem able to install any apps; the phone believes there is no space). I also attempted to use Odin to restore factory kernel/system status but the problem persists. My goal right now is to get everything back to factory and start all over, any advice would be much appreciated.

Voodoo definitely failed and your MBR is messed up now. (Invalid argument)
Please use the voodoo uninstall in the OP of this thread to remove the damage.
You can then make another attempt at installing the voodoo kernel if you wish.

Will do so shortly, appreciate the quick response

This corrected my problem. Thank you for the referral PhoenixPath, and thank you adrynalyne for taking the time to put this together for us mouth breathers

MBR checksum error

Call me stupid, but I chose to try cwm partition sd option (I was thinking I needed to so I could put apps on the external SD). It caused a MBR checksum error, then after Odin flash I was getting no app storage 0.0k Somehow I fixed that and am now running Axura 2.2 (wipes sweat from brow)
Question is: I still have the MBR checksum error is there a fix for this?
Clockwork should remove this option! It is causing a lot of people problems!!!
have the same issue, I ended up using Odin to get to Eugene no brick froyo. Once there I couldnt install anything or download anything .... was unable to get into clockwork recovery. Today I finally found a solution for that, place an update zip of CWR on the sd card. I booted into stock recovery and install updates, this took me into CW recovery ... Now I have
E:failure at line 12
copy_dir package:data Data:
installation aborted
Not sure if it was a rom issue or not

Yeah, thats what I was getting, but after I re-flashed the "no brick froyo" using Odin once with repartion un-checked and then again with it checked I was able to use CWM to flash the Axura zip without the E:failure at line 12 error
just remembered I also used the voodoo lag fix (another post recomended it) flashed so many times its hard to rememer the sequence.
1. Oden "no brick froyo" with repartion un-checed
2. CWM voodoo lagfix
3. reboot
4. disable voodoo
5. Oden "no brick froyo" w/ repariton checked

can you post links for the cwm voodoo lagfix, and how to disable?
I found the Voodoo lag fix here http://project-voodoo.org/
and to disable it you just make a directory called "disable lagfix" wihout the quotes in the Voodoo directory on the SD
How were you guys able to install apps again? I was able boot into CWR and install a new rom, but I still have the issue with the phone thinking I have no memory. And all the while trying to fix this I lost 5 gigs on my SD card. I checked to see if anything is partitioned or converted to anything else, but it just says thats its an 11gig card.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
I have the same problem. Did exactly the same thing Derzicom did. now i cant install any apps from market. I've tried installing a whole bunch of different roms. Its the same problem. "sorry, there's not enough space to install this item".

[Q] Internal Storage Problems after Stock Reset

Hi all,
I used Heimdall this morning to try and put the CyanogenMod ROM on my Fascinate. I think I must have tried flashing with insufficient files, because the next thing I know my phone is back to factory with everything gone D: I tried to use Heimdall again, this time explicitly with the files from the ED05 FROYO tar going around. Using both the default recovery and the ClockworkMod recovery, I can get to the screen that asks you to wipe/load update.zip and all, but when I try to wipe I get access errors and the inability to mount various directories. The end result is that the phone tells me it has no internal storage space available, I cannot install apps, and I keep getting errors in twlauncher.
If anyone can help or point me in the direction I need to go to remedy this, I would be most appreciative. I can walk you through the steps I've taken since flashing with the ED05 kernel and all, but I cannot find where exactly I messed up in the first place. Thanks.

Trouble Flashing ROMs/Boot

Good Morning All...
I'll try to provide as much relevant information as possible while being concise. That being said, let me know if I need to provide addition information.
Basics
Computer OS: Mac + Windows 7 VM and a Windows 7 dedicated machine.
Phone: HTC EVO 4G LTE
Carrier: Sprint
Current ROM: CM10-20120904-NIGHTLY-jewel
Goal
To restore "normal" flashing functionality (detailed below) so I can restore to stock.
Details
My first issue with this phone started on the 4.0.x version of Android that came with the phone. The phone would frequently reboot, at which point it would indicate an error report could be sent to HTC. I sent these faithfully for several weeks. Then an update for the phone was released and I updated OTA. This did not solve the rebooting issue.
At that point, I grew frustrated and decided I would root the phone and install CM10 in the hopes the rebooting issue would be resolved. I rooted the phone with S-ON using the method outlined on HTVEVOHacks.
I was able to push TWRP to the phone and then proceeded to download and install CM10 via Clockwork. After installing Clockwork, I installed Clockwork recovery (I had worked with it previously on my EVO 4G, and wasn't familiar with TWRP) and tried to install CM10. This failed and I pushed TWRP once more and booted into the phone.
I then installed GooManager, at which point I downloaded and successfully installed CM10. This is essentially where I'm at now.
Issues
I've had several issues with CM10, including the phone rebooting (still), and have decided I would like to restore to stock. The issues outlined below comprise all of the trouble I've experienced and is currently impeding my progress:
If I flash a ROM other than the CM10 backup I have, or MIUI, it sits in boot spinning indefinitely (>25-minutes). I've cleared the fastboot cache, as well as the dalvik/cache in an attempt to boot it properly. I've tried MeanROM and a few other Sense-based ROMS (inc. stock-rooted ROMs).
If I try to run the RUU (I've tried several versions), it gets to the point where the HTC logo appears in silver, and then the RUU tells me I have the wrong version.
MIUI proved to be a very poor choice, as I was inundated with error after error (com.phone.android).
If I restore the stock recovery, and perform an oemlock, the bootloader shows 'Tampered - Relocked - Security Warning'.
When in TWRP, any time I try to wipe cache/factory reset, it gives an error: "E:failed to mount /sdcard (Invalid argument)". This appears numerous times throughout the TWRP log (which I can copy to SD, but I can't mount to USB).
At this point, I'd like to be able to take it back to Sprint as I believe the rebooting to be an issue with the phone, but I need to be able to restore back to stock, if possible.
I know this is a long post, but being an engineer, I like to make sure I do as much footwork as possible prior to asking for help. If there are any steps I haven't taken that I should have, please tell me and I'll be happy to do it.
Any help that can be provided is welcome.
Regards,
JadoJodo
Sounds like you need to fast boot flash a sense kernel before flashing a sense ROM.
I'll admit I didn't read all your post but you should check out the thread named " don't panic"
All your answers should be there
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app

I had taken a look at that yesterday and didn't see a guide that matched my issues specifically, but having looked at it again today, I see some relevant info. My question: Where do I get a Sense-based kernel to flash? Is there a specific one I should flash?

Having reviewed the "Don't Panic" guide by om4, I attempted to solve the sdcard mount issue by reformatting in TWRP. I get the following error:
Code:
* Verifying filesystems...
* Verifying partition sizes...
E:failed to mount /sdcard (Invalid argument)
E:failed to mount /sdcard (Invalid argument)
E:failed to mount /sdcard (Invalid argument)
E:Unable to open ums lunfule 'sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_mass_sto
Using rm -rf on '/dev/block/mmcblk0p38'
E: tw_format_rmfr: unable to locate volume for device "/dev/block/mmcblk0
Mount twrp to pc and reformat

Thanks for the reply, om4!
I was able to mount the Internal Storage to my PC and format. Once this was done, I found it could be mounted in TWRP, however, using the 'Wipe' function in TWRP to wipe 'Internal Storage' still fails. I am unsure if this functionality is normal, but I can access the Internal Storage when mounted via Windows now.
I am reformatting System, Cache, Dalvik, and reinstalling CM10 once more to test functionality...

+1 Like Tweet HELP! LG_Home launcher deleted and phone bricked

I was trying to free up space and saw LG Home was taking up some space. Never knew it was a critical launcher. Ive tried millions of methods on various sites including xda, android forums, android central with no luck. Here is a rundown of the situation.
1. I had clockwork installed then it "disappeared" adb reboot recovery stopped letting me go to the clockwork bootloader
2. I have a custom ROM sitting on an sdcard called Cyanogen.zip Its never been messed with yet.
3. I do not have a "nandroid" backup or backup of the stock rom because clockworkmod never worked
4. Doing a factory reset did not fix the issue because apparently the OS runs live off the rom aka it never installs itself to the device like in WIndows . SO I get a total black screen setup screen with only a signal bar on top.
So the latest thing ive been trying is adb pushing a copy of LG_Home into the /system . This is not working because im getting a "permission denied" . Now before you get hasty please do not have me do these commands:
1. mount /system already did this back when doing clockwork
2. remount -o ,rw does not work, probably due to already having root
3. adb root tried it and it doesn't really do anything, I still get permission denied, and usage errors
This does not make sense because the phone is rooted (does factory reset take away root? ) , chmod 777 has been applied to /system . If I lost root doing a factory reset, is there a way to root the phone now that I don't have a functioning phone?
Here is what im aming to do with your help
1. Force the LG_Home.apk file into the /system
2. Force some way to get cyanogen mod installed as I now have a corrupt stock rom
Something has to work and im hoping someone will help me
