Workaround for other emails (hotmail or yahoo) - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

1. Register to your gmail account that you use with your phone
2. Go to your email app and refresh - load the first 50 msgs in your email
3. Go to settings>sony ericsson> Email
4. Change the login info to your yahoo or hotmail account
5. Change your incoming and outgoing servers (for yahoo its imap.mail.yahoo.com and for outgoing its smtp.mail.yahoo.com)
6.Set encryption for in/outgoing to none (ports will automatically change)
7. Verify Settings (should say that settings are verified)
8. go to your email and voila ~ your hotmail or yahoo mail works on your mini.

for the record this is for android 1.6 (donut)
in android 2.1 (eclair) you can simply fill in your hotmail or yahoo email

or... just use k-9, which supports multiple accounts =p

Email.apk
Hi guys
I have found a email replacement app which is much better in my opinion.
It has a modern look and you can different exchange accounts, hotmail, gmail and other.
Once you add the different accounts you can view a combined inbox where each account has it's own color. Very neat app in my opinion.

The app works on the 2.1 ROM (it will not work for 1.6). I did the following : (You need root to install this app)
- Download the email.apk from the link
- Put the file on your SD card
- Open Root explorer (can be found on the market if you don't have it)
- go to /system/app/
- rename SemcEmailSmall.apk to SemcEmailSmall.apk.bac (you create a backup of the file)
- go to /sdcard
- find the file email.apk
- long press on the file and choose move
- go back to /system/app/
- choose paste
- click on the email.apk and choose install
After that you can close Root explorer and open the app and configure your e-mails.
Good luck.

[Q] How to remove preloaded bookmarks in rooted Optimus 1?

Hi,
I've successfully rooted my branded Optimus 1, and removed some pre-installed apps. However, I cannot remove or delete any pre-loaded bookmarks in browser. Anyone knows how this can be done? Thanks.
I had the same problem and solved it using these things:
- a rooted Optimus One
- Root Explorer
- SQLite Editor
1. Using Root Explorer browse to /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/
2. Open browser.db and then the database table "bookmarks"
3. Change the values in the column "readonly" from "1" to "0" as you please
4. Now you'll be able to delete the bookmarks the normal way
Good luck
The solution works, though it seems to be a long way and a bit of effort I can now delete all the preloaded bookmarks. Thank you.
Procedure isn't that bad. SQLite Editor gives access without Root Explorer (assuming device is rooted). I ran the Editor, chose "Browser" as the application, then "browser.db", then "bookmarks", selected the cell under "readonly" (waayy to the right), pressed menu key for "Edit Field".
...one less trait of branding, without flashing a new ROM.
Thanks for this thread.
hi,
I don't want to start a new thread with the same topic.
After I modify the /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/ browser.db file the browser won't start, I get an error "the application browser has stopped unexpectedly"
If I delete the browser.db file the browser makes a new one with the preinstalled bookmarks, so I think there is a second place where the bookmarks and settings are.
So please, can someone help me get rid of the preinstalled bookamarks, because there are a lot of them and set as favorite .
EDIT: I tried to uninstall the browser and reinstall using this LINK but still same thing. there is something that verifies the browsers bookmarks or something like that...

[Q] Please advise solution!!!

Hi!
I`ve the following problems:
1. Preinstalled file manager works fine with stock Email,
but it isn`t integrated with stock Browser and Gmail: I`m not able to attach
any file except music or picture, however after installation of
alternative file manager like ES File Explorer, Browser and Gmail got intergrated,
but stock Email still can`t see ES File Explorer or any other alternative except default one
MyFiles.
Is it possible somehow to tweak MyFiles.apk to be fully integrated, or tweak Email.apk
in order to allow use alternative file manager for attachement???
2. The same problem in regarding preinstalled Polaris Office which isn`t intergrated as well,
`cause stock Browser, Email or Gmail can`t see Polaris Office to attach office docs, like you are
able to do with Documents. However I`ve extracted Polaris Office with all libs and installed
it on Oxygen AOSP 2.3.7 ROM and it`s fully integrated.
Is it possible somehow to tweak Polaris Office.apk for full integration, or maybe moving it to
/data would make it possible???
Guys, really hope somebody has an answer, 'cause it's really important and may be valuable for others
as well to avoid tone of apps to perform unique task.

Download & Install The Unreleased Gmail 4.2 APK With Pinch-To-Zoom And More

You will find here the new Unreleased Gmail 4.2.apk - Thanks to Android Police for this news
The Gmail 4.2 APK is signed by Google, but with a different key than the one in the Play Store (we checked the signatures - they differ). One is probably the test key and the other the production key. For this reason, you can't simply install it as an update and therefore need to be rooted with the ability to mount the /system directory for writing in order to remove the existing Gmail APK.
Important: Once Google updates Gmail in the Play Store, you will want to revert this process or at the very least delete the Gmail 4.2 APK you installed here if you want to update it from the Play Store.
OK, let's get down to it. You'll probably need ADB installed on your computer (here's an easy way that doesn't require downloading the Android SDK). There is a chance that this might work without ADB by just removing the APKs mentioned below and installing the new one, but it didn't seem to work reliably for everyone. This should, though:
- Download Gmail 4.2 from the download link above.
- Rename it to Gmail2.apk.(already renamed )
- Make a Nandroid backup in case something goes wrong (this is always a good thing to do before messing with your device).
- Remount /system for writing (via your favorite root-aware file explorer).
- Delete (or move if you want to save the APKs) all other versions of Gmail.
- Update: We've seen multiple successful reports of simply uninstalling Gmail using Titanium Backup or ROM Toolbox instead of performing this and the next step. If that works for you, go directly to step 7. If not, proceed below.
- Usually there are 2 or 3 copies. One will be in /system/app (that's the original Gmail that was pre-installed on the device) and there may be a few in /data/app (these are the updates installed from the Play Store). They'll be called "Gmail.apk," or "com.google.android.gm-[number].apk," An easy way to tell is to look for the Gmail icon.
- You may need to delete the .odex files matching the APKs in step 5 too, if you have them. Neither I nor Artem had to do this, but there are many different ROMs out there, and we're trying to cover all bases. Ignore this step and only come back to it if something doesn't work later.
- Reboot. Once you do, you should have no Gmail as far as Android is concerned.
- You can try to install the Gmail 4.2 APK you downloaded at this point by tapping it in your favorite file explorer (move the APK to your device first, of course). If that doesn't work, or if you prefer ADB, fire up a command line and type adb install Gmail2.apk.
If you get an error message, you probably didn't delete all copies of Gmail. If you don't feel like playing with ADB for Step 8, I've also gotten it to work by just copying the APK to /data/app, but that's not as fool proof as "ADB install".

Hotmail folders using stock android kitkat app

Any ideas as to why when I create a new email folder on my hotmail account on a PC, it doesn't appear in the folders on my android app (stock kitkat email app)? Any way to refresh the folder list? I can find emails contained in any 'new' folder by searching for them on the android app, but I'm unable to actually get to the newly created folder.
Same happens when i delete a folder using my PC on my hotmail - the folder isn't deleted (or at least still appears) on the email app.
Many thanks for any help you can offer.
