Ok so my battery died all the way to 0% before I could toss it back on the charger after a full days use. No big deal.
I plugged it in the charger, powered it back up and strangely my HD2 froze within 30 sec of booting into Sense. Strange.
So I rebooted and same problem. And the again and again about 10 times consistently.
30 sec is barely enough time to backup and settings or files to do a hard reset and restore an old back up file. So I unfortunately had to backup to an older backup from a month ago
Figure this would obviously solve the issue and worst case lose some recent texts and appointments. Well the freezing is somehow still there! I REALLY don't want to do a hard reset and start over from scratch.
Anyone know a possible fix? I searched before asking as usual but not much luck..
Hi
Ive suddenly started experiencing SENSE problems in the last two days also. I havent tweaked or installed anything for months. My battery didnt die though.
If i switch of SENSE it works fine, with Sense on it takes forever to do anything. Im planning to hard reboot it soon, but your experience seems doesnt fill me with confidence. are you on tmobile uk?
I've also experienced what OP has. Ran my battery completely empty. Let it charge for some time and switched it on later in the day. After some time (a few minutes, I think) the phone was extremely slow. Sense froze completely, but I could navigate the start menu etc, although very slowly.
A soft reset didn't change anything.
I disabled Sense (which was cumbersome, to say the least). Let the phone stay on with charger plugged in overnight. The next day it was good again.
Strange thing!!
Check for errors on your phone/sd card - sounds like you might have a corrupt file somewhere. I had one on my sd card and it gave me a massive battery drain. I deleted it and everything was back to normal.
Just link your phone to the pc, select the either drive through active sync, right mouse button and select "error checking" from "tools".

Hi
Ive had some luck on my freezing SENSE problem, not entirely sure if it may fix yours but this is how mine resolved. It was basically down to the issue where for some reason the phone switched its date back to 2009. i have a YAHOO email account configured, and given that the phone thought the date was 2009, it decided to download all emails since that date (headers at least). And I have a LOT! I just looked at the inbox, and it was huge. I only have the thing setup to check for new mails every 4 hours or so, so it doesnt resync so often. Anyway, i have forced it to check for new email now, and it has deleted all the hundreds (if not thousands) of old headers.
Now sense is working perfectly fine again. phew!
Perhaps the battery drain caused your system date to reset, and maybe you have emails setup to download from an external mail account? worth checking.
Had this issue again last night, although the battery was about 80% full.
Soft reset didn't change anything. I tried disabling Sense and soft reset. Didn't change anything either.
Did as last time; plugged in the charger and left the phone on over night (with Sense off). Today it was fine again. Enabled Sense and still smooth.
Date is correct, though, as opposed to ansaar99. Considering it was really slow even though Sense was disabled suggests this is a WM issue. Couldn't find any process that was hogging resources either; 90% CPU spent on Idle process; the rest used by task manager.
Haven't had the chance to check for corrupt files on the SD card (as suggested by Towserspvm2000).
Same thing happened last night again.
This time I tried both disabling Sense, and removing the SD card. Removing the SD card should solve the problem if it was because of a corrupt file. It didn't
I think I'm seeing a pattern though; this seems to happen roughly around midnight. Yesterday (or actually, today) I noticed it at 00:24. I didn't record the time on the other occurances, but it was around midnight.
So, could it be that WM by default does something 'scary' around midnight?

I noticed earlier today my phone kept freezing.
the phone HAS been freezing on me recently, at least once an hour
but now every 3 minutes it freezes or resets itself. I have missed a LOT of calls and ttext messages etc.
today has been a disaster. i havent even synced my numbers and contacts. what should I do?
if you haven't installed anything new or tweaked just before the problem started:
as usual - backup and hard reset...
There is a free program called "pim backup" that will backup all your contacts, messages and call log. Then you can do a hard reset.
my phone freezes before I can even back up anything. its the worst
now it seems like if my phone is plugged in and charging, it gives no problem, but as soon as I unplug it, frozen.
im going to try to find PIM backup to see what that can do
wow now I have a bigger problem now. my phone fell and the transcriber cracked so only part of the screen works with touch BUT that was before I hard reset the phone and now the screen align is appearing but I cant touch all of the targets
is there a way to bypass this?
When its at the align screen you can plug it into computer and connect with active sync. Delete the Welcome shortcut from Windows/startup and soft reset. That should skip the alignment. Sorry to hear about the phone. I have a couple moguls if interested PM me about it.
I am having the same issue he was before he cracked his screen up.
I get freezing whenever the phone goes into standby and it will only restart with 2 hits of the reset button. Also it is a coinflip as to whether it will actually start up fully or just keep soft reseting for an extended period without ever loading up fully.
Anyone have any incite or ideas. I am running a ppckitchen vs of windows mobile 6.5 now. It is a kitchen version with few added programs. However I also experienced something similar to this issue with Titan Reloaded 1.3.4 as well but it stopped so I never bothered looking into it. Now this problem occurs about 10-15 times per day and it is frustrating. I am out of warranty and cant send my phone in because I replaced the housing myself.
Thanks
Dave
Also, I have US Cellular if you need to know that.
Thanks
Dave
I had the same problem kind of. Out of nowhere mine would lockup or freeze randomly. Usually after being in my pocket, after hitting all the buttons or squeezing it, it would work again (sometimes but usually after numerou reboots) but then lockup shortly after or flipping the case open and closed. Finally took the case off my phone and blew inside it today put it back together and havent had a lock up all day (1st time since i started havin the problem). It wasnt rom related as i had the same rom for a while, tried reflashing to different kinds of roms and radios but same random lockups. Somethin musta been loose
Well, I went to take my phone apart, probably the 8th or 9th time that I've done it and I ended up ripping the cable for the screen right off. So no more HTC for me for awhile. Unless of coarse someone wants to mail me a cable for free (im broke in college and my rent is due soon.) By judging by how easily the cable ripped I would bet the crease I found right by the rip had already had a slight tear in it.
Thanks for your help.
Dave
I don't know what the heck is going on with my HTC HD2, but the reboots are getting quite annoying.
Furthermore i noticed it happens when i utilize the cpu heavily.
Mostly with streaming video or playing games.
Have done multiple hard resets, rom updates and even custom roms but nothing seems to work.
Sometimes my phone even reboots(soft resets) after watching 5 whole seconds of youtube
So even directly after a hard reset the problem persists.
I'm totally confused right now(because i have tried everything i could do to fix this problem).
I am thinking could it be the battery not giving enough juice for the task? overheating ? or just faulty hardware?
what do you guys think?
because i noticed that the problem is happening more frequently over time.
Edit: it rebooted even in idle a moment ago (1th time) ???
Similar issue with youtube freeze and reset
I can validate your frustration. I am having problems with my HD2 freezing up as well and doing a soft reset on it's own. So the YouTube app opens up the HTC player and then it will play a few seconds and then freeze up. I also opened an MP4 movie file and view it with the HTC player and that also froze it. Last but not least, I have TomTom and that froze it after 15 minutes last night.
I have seen some postings that Tmobile and HTC will be releasing a new rom to fix some memory leaking issues so perhaps that might be it.
It started happening about a week ago for me. Please post any solutions you might find.
I am on:
OS v.5.2.21889
Mania v.2.5.20121412.1
ROM v.2.10.531.1 WWE
Radio v. 2.08.50.08.2
I have done some trail and error, played around with coreplayer and i noticed that when i set the video quality to FLV medium quality in the buildin youtube app in coreplayer i won't reboot that quick anymore, but after a couple of seconds it will eventually still reboot. If i set quality to high quality/high bandwidth i will reboot much faster (so this let's me think about some kind of memory leak/buffer overflow).
Furthermore luckly i don't have any problems with playing mp4 videos in coreplayer, i have tested this especially because of the youtube reboots, and it will keep playing for 1,5 hour without any problems, so maybe you could try coreplayer and see if that's a solution for your mp4 problem ?
But eventually it would be nice if these problems where sorted out so that the device will work like it is supossed to be
Already tried a TASK29 and a flashing a stock ROM from your SD card?
Ye, have tried task 29 (between each roms, i do use task to make sure that the phone is empty.) and when i went back to my 1.72 stock rom i did flash it from SD, but still no luck.
this happened to me today as i was logging onto the net. it did a full master reset.
Same thing happened to me after the unit froze. I pulled the battery, put it back in an it went into this continuous loop of starting up, going through the first couple of screens and then rebooting. What I eventually found to be the problem was that I had inadvertently bent one of the battery pins when I put the battery back in, not much but just enough to where it wasn't making contact. After I carefully straightened it out the issue was gone and it fired up as usual. I love simple fixes, of course this was after I task 29'd and reflashed which didnt correct the problem.

hmm i only got the problem while i'm watching streaming video through 3g and on usb > active sync > pc data connection / some (cpu intensive) games
with wifi no problems at all, it plays youtube for more then a hour without a reboot, and i tested it multiple times to make sure), and booting is just fine without a single hickup

Hey, thank you @thompsd. This was driving me crazy on my phone. I finally took it back to a TMobile store for replacement and they put me on the phone with support before they would issue a replacement. Of course I was bewildered when they had me take out the battery and put it back in (which I had done a zillion times) and the phone suddenly worked. The person on the phone told me that it was fixed because I had to keep the battery out for at least 90 seconds. This made absolutely no sense, but it was hard to argue with success. I walked out of the store with my head hung low in shame.
Tonight, sitting in an airport lounge waiting for a flight, I noticed that my phone was hung so I pulled the battery to reset it. When I put the battery back in and started it, the phone went into the reboot loop -- displaying the boot screen for a couple of seconds and then shutting down and rebooting. I pulled the battery for 90 seconds. 120 seconds, 5 minutes. No joy. Realizing that this solution made absolutely no sense in the first place, I decided to search around again.
I found your reply in this thread and looked at my battery contacts. One of them was bent. I straightened it out, put the battery back in and the phone booted right up. Now I realize that when I was on the phone with TMobile, I must have put the battery back in that one time in such a way that inadvertently straightened the pin.
Hi all,
I have (maybe) the same problem with my HD2 i.e. when it is "doing something", well not idle, it sometimes restarts itself and then usually will not get out of the cycle of crash/reboot untill I remove the battery and wait for a few minutes before starting it again.
This is always more frequent if I am using a serious application such as sat nav. It also has only happened when the unit is connected to power, either on my desk or in the car (different power sources), but disconnecting it from the power after the cycle has started doesn't help.
I have assumed from the symptoms that it is caused by overheating and so leaving it switched off for a period allows it to cool.
I have got a return packet from Vodafone to send it for repair but I am loath to do this as it is likely to take 10 days and I suspect I might either get a recon unit back or "no fault found".
Does anyone think this could be battery related? If so I would buy a 2nd battery and test it.
Cheers, Gordon
I can confirm having the same problem.
Using BattClock (which shows a.o. the battery temperature) I was able to establish that the resets and reset loops happen once the battery temperature exceeds 31-32°C.
Contacted HTC support and received reply that the phone qualifies for repair.
PS. My wife just suggested providing me with a cooler bag, so I can enjoy reset-free phone during summer heatwave...
I had similar behavior, but it was due to the new ROM release (4/28/10). I loaded the official T-Mobile release date ROM (2/19/10) and the problem went away.
L.B.
Yesterday my battery charge got very low and shut the phone down. When I turned the phone back on without charging it kept rebooting time after time. I tried plugging the charger in but that didn't help. I took out the battery and put it back in and that still didn't help. I finally caught it when it was rebooting and pressed volume down and got the phone in bootloader to at least stop the constant rebooting. I left the phone on the charger and after about 1/2 hour I pulled the battery and put it back in and the phone was fine.
I am not wanting this to happen again. Maybe I will go back to an older ROM.
if i have some luck i will receive my phone tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
i will let you know what has been repaired and if this solved the reboot problem.
today i received my phone back from the repair center.
The repair letter says that the display has being changed because it was not functioning anymore? (but when i sent the phone in the display was working like it should).
And the youtube problem is still there
Im having the same problem! i figure it was the battery overheating...or the rom or even probably a not compatible radio.....try to change all of these and is still restarting when ever it tries to connect to any data or internet usage. Ex. youtube, downloading of files from the internet, Remote Desktop even Microsoft My Phone still restarts.
even when i used to make/receive phone calls it would restart as soon as i picked it up to talk. but for this i had a solution witch as of now is working fine with out a problem.
if anybody else has this problem with the Receiving/making calls this should work.
1. Go to: Start/Settings/Connections
2. is the "TASK" tab choose "Manage Existing Connections"
3. In the "Modem Tab" has for options to choose from, normally is on "Auto", this was the problem. you would want to get it OFF AUTO.
4. Try all the other " voice Stream options Shown" and see witch one works for you without giving problems, and save. Im currently using "wap.voicestream.com." witch is the second option after Auto.
Well i hope this works for you guys if ur having similar problems, its actually work for me. GooD luck! hope this helps.

Hopefully they have found the faulty component of the phone.
I will keep you informed
Good morning all. I have a small amount of knowledge about this device (I’ve read a fair bit) but would still classify myself as a novice user. I am able to flash my device and have had android running for a while now. I have a few issues, and just want confirmation that I’m not doing anything stupidly wrong.
Firstly, I have flashed to a number of winmo roms, all with varying degrees of usability. I found them to be slow compared to android. All my rom including the last two roms, chuckyrom tabtastic and chuckydroid, have given me a few issues of varying degrees. They freeze a lot and require a soft reset or to pull the battery. Sometimes, if I try and restart straight away, the red writing on the first screen doesn't come up and the phone vibrates 4 or 5 times. Further to this, they may restart midway through booting up, or if I am transferring a large amount of data or using my phone as a wireless hotspot the phone also resets after a while. I have noticed the phone gets quite warm during this. Best results for a reboot come after pulling the battery and leaving it for 15-20 minutes.
Secondly, I have used a number of different android builds (all HTC based) and whilst generally the phone does not freeze when it is in idle mode, it freezes up to 15-20 times a day when using applications such as facebook, internet explorer, music etc. Is this normal?? I don't get any force close notifications. When people say it is “relatively stable” what does this actually mean – no freezing, 5 freezes a day, 50 freezes a day?? The device also freezes when syncing all data. Sometimes when I am in a call, if a change occurs on the device (text message or other notification comes in, even when on the move which I’m guessing may be location changes in the system) the phone freezes and emits a “bzzzzzzzz”ing noise (well, I don't know how well the word “bzzzzzz” conveys what I’m trying to say, but you may get the picture). All this in turn leads to me needing to re-boot, which then brings into play the issues of rebooting above.
The other day, I noted that the micro-usb cable had what appeared to be small burn marks on it, and the contacts inside the micro-usb cable were a bit corroded/eroded. I do remember a few weeks ago where my phone froze in the middle of the night whilst on charge and the phone became quite hot, possibly resulting in the damage to the cable. Yesterday, I got a new cable and woke up this morning with the phone quite warm again (battery temp was at 39 degrees). This was all whilst using android.
I have tried a number of different winmo roms and android builds, flashed radio, task29, different micro sd cards, formatted sd card etc. I am thinking of reflashing back ot the original rom and if I still have the same issues then sending away to get it fixed. Problem with this is that Telstra here in Australia claim it will be a month and that no replacement phone will be given to me in the meantime. I think I am paying about $160 a month at the moment – surely this is a bit slack not to give me a replacement phone in the meantime? Can anyone share their experiences with Telstra and/or tips when dealing with them?
Any help with the above would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
No, don't think you're doing anything wrong. Android builds shouldn't be freezing at all, as far as I know. I've tried many builds, and have never had one freeze on me. The current ones are arguably more stable than most Windows Mobile ROMs! Still, Windows Mobile shouldn't actually require pulling the battery that often either.
Based on what you mention it sounds like your phone might be overheating, which would probably be a hardware problem (at least really unlikely to be caused purely by user operation or software). It might be worth checking the battery pins, to make sure all of them make a firm connection to the battery. If not, it could be one is disconnecting as your phone gets warmer. Still, overheating itself is a more likely cause, especially because of what you mention about vibrating x times if you restart it without giving it time to cool down.
I'm no expert, but it might be time to send your phone in for repairs... (if you do, don't forget to remove HSPL & restore stock ROM)
thanks for that help. I think i will send it back, i had already checked the battery pins.
just got rid of HSPL, but now having trouble flashing back to original rom. it jsut gets stuck on the update screen at 0%.... any ideas? i tried via SD card too, and it just gave me the "loading" page....
THnaks!
OK my Atrix just rebooted 2 times today. This is getting pretty annoying.
I saw few Threads on the forum about reboots already but couldn't find an answer weather or not replacing the phone fixed the issue for people who had it. And thought the pool will be useful to see what the current situation is. Should i replace mine or it is software related and all phones have same issue??
Some of the reboots are can be missed bu user as they happens when phone just idles the good way to check is to: do dial
*#*#4636#*#* and go to "battery Information" -> Time since boot:
If you see that this time is less then what you think it should be(you know when you last rebooted).
On the side note i saw few threads where people where complaining about the battery life, an it might be connected as those reboots do reset the battery timer.
What about an option for something like
Had random reboot issue, didn't do anything about it and haven't had another one
I vote for that one..
Was it completly random, or you where installing something/playing game/using app etc.
Also is it possible that you didn notice it? Mine rebooted atleast 3 times where i found out that it did only after checking service menue (battary information->Time since boot)
i have been using it for 2 weeks and not a single random reboot
Have had mine for a few days and have not seen or felt one random reboot...

It was completely random although I'm sure something was running in the background that made it reboot. I've kept a very close eye on the phone since I got it so this was the only time it happened.
I'll vote once i've had my phone longer than a day lol
Had it since feb 22, no reboots so far. I would change it under warranty.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
i exchanged a phone due to a faulty usb port the other day, had it 2 weeks and it just stopped working. never had a random reboot.
got the replacement on sunday, and noticed today as i was putting it into the locker at the gym it rebooted. only time i've noticed.
I'll check some more this weekend, but I did have an issue while in the music player in car dock mode. Music would stop playing, the phone appeared to lock up, then it rebooted itself. Happened a couple times in this situation. I thought it might have been tasker (as that was the last thing I installed). I did a factory reset, loaded up pretty much the same stuff as previous, minus tasker. It did the same thing once. Hasn't done it again. Will know more later this week when I have time to force the issue, if it's going to occur again.
So, this wasn't really random, as it occurred during a specific activity (car dock, music player). Right now, too many variables to pin it down.
My reboots have only occurred during music playing...ive done numerous searches to find a fix to no availe...i'll give it til the end of the week, do a factory reset, see how it does and go from there...what the hell i'll keep it until the 20th and take it back if it still occurs
Interesting, vote break out almost evenly, as half of the voter have reboots and the other half doesn't. Also i thought a lot more people exchanged their phones but looks like most people (including me) with reboots are waiting on some kind of confirmation of what is causing the issue. Is it software or hardware???
Mine rebooted also today while I was using the music player and the last app that I installed was an app killer watchdog lite. this is the first time I've seen it but it might have rebooted by itself without me noticing it
The culprit might be the music player but I wanna make sure if it will happen again during music play
I forgot where I read this but apparently there's supposed to be a fix for this but they weren't sure why it's not being pushed out yet.
I got my Atrix on Friday night and had it reboot several times, before finally freezing, then crashing while running an app. I took it back to AT&T the next day and switched it out for a new one totally free. With the second I have been having no problems at all, so I think it is just a problem with certain, random, handsets rather than a problem for all of the phones.
Atrix random reboot
Have had my Atrix for one week. The first 24 hours it rebooted 2X, the second day it rebooted 6X. I have been reading these and many other posts. Uninstalled Advanced Task Killer and phone stayed alive for a day. Opened the back and double-checked the insertion of the SIM card and it's been up for 44 hours without a reboot. I will be near an AT&T store on Sunday. Think I'll try a new one. I love the phone otherwise.
still haven't experienced any reboots..
Audible's app (version 1.1 from the market) FC's like crazy and finally caused a reboot last night, the first one since buying 10 days ago. There is a beta version of the audible app that is much more stable than their piece o' in the market.
SIM Card
So... After complete insertion of the SIM card I'm up 66 hours now without a reboot. Others should check their SIM card and post if it helps.
I haven't had a single reboot until today; it rebooted twice on me. I've had the phone since Feb 22nd.
The only thing that's changed is that 2-3 days ago my 32GB SD card came in. I'll do what the above poster said (reinsert SD card) and see if that fixes it.
EDIT: Maybe it is due to heat? I've noticed that, since I got my car dock, anytime I remove my Atrix from the car dock (while in the car dock I use Slacker Radio, Navigation, and a car dock application) its always around 58-60C. I have a SetCPU profile where it underclocks after 60C, but still that is extremely hot.
Perhaps someone can help. I've been trawling the net for answers to this issue, and have checked out a number of helpful threads, but it was something that still kept reoccurring for me. Today is the final straw - I just cannot get my phone to charge. I plugged it in last night at 40%, and after charging all night, and most of the day (save for when I unplugged it to restart, or remove battery), it's at 5% and falling.
Edit: After about 9 hours of intermittently restarting/removing battery repeatedly it's charging again. Didn't do anything new, and it'll doubtlessly repeat this fiasco again, as it tends to do.. So any suggestions are still more than welcome.
Issues I'm having:
Refuses to enter deep sleep - hangs at 384mhz.
Doesn't charge - even when shut down and plugged in.
///Keeps turning wifi on. (This is a new one that it's just started doing today. Enabling airplane mode does nothing. It just turns wifi back on.) - Edit: got it to stop doing this - didn't do anything other than restarting and removing battery a lot.
Things I've tried:
Silencing all the alerts.
Factory reset.
Uninstalling some apps I thought may have been doing it.
Disabling syncing.
Not using wifi.
Not plugging anything into the headphone jack.
Only plugging in/removing charger while the phone is unlocked.
Removing battery and waiting a few minutes.
Restarting repeatedly.
Other considerations:
I haven't changed anything. Stock ICS, updated OTA. It's under warranty.
Using original charger, and have never used any other chargers.
Side question - can anyone confirm that there are 4 pins in the charger, despite there being 5 indentations for them? I mean, in the bit that plugs into the phone. I know I saw a thread somewhere that detailed some info about the chargers, but I can't find it, and I'm wondering if my charger is off.
Any help or suggestions would be fantastic. This thing is frustratingly unreliable. I never know if I'm going to wake up to a useable phone or not.
Ugh ...
Thats a long list of broken features..
Did the phone get upgraded to ICS via kies or OTA ?
Is sounds like a bad firmware flash to me.
So if you are able, and the device will connect properly to PC, a kies restore may be in order here.
Otherwise, a warranty exchange is on the table as well ...g

OTA, and there didn't seem to be any issues with it. It began a few days after I upgraded to ICS, and as far as I know, I can't revert to Gingerbread without rooting (pardon - phone noob here), so will a kies restore actually help? Or would that be to try to reinstall ICS? (In case this is relevant, it's not consistent - sometimes I'll have up to a week with no problems.)
I'm keeping the warranty exchange as a last resort because it did work perfectly fine on Gingerbread. (Kind of hoping JellyBean will fix things..)
At any rate, thank you for replying and for your suggestion! I will dig around in Kies since that wasn't a route I've tried yet. Right now, it seems to be charging again so I'm going to let it get some power first. (And in case anyone is having similar problems, I didn't do anything to make it start charging other than what I've been trying on and off for the past 9 hours - just restarting, powering off, powering on, removing battery, etc repeatedly.)
Kies will push ICS to the device again ..but will often correct any data corruption from an OTA flash.
They were not always good downloads.
Kies will want to emergency restore the device, causing data loss.
It sounds like you may want to wait a bit longer, but I can't say how long on a JB update ..g

It sounds like you may want to wait a bit longer, but I can't say how long on a JB update ..g

Aha, understood. Thanks for the warning re: data loss. I back up regularly but will double check that everything is saved before fiddling. Would try tonight, but it's gotten up to 20% and seems to have decided that that's the end of charging..
I believe, for my carrier, early Jan, so I may wait it out. (Though last time it kept getting bumped forward for a good few months.)
Sounds good ...
If you need further help, just revisit this thread.
We have a good bunch of note users here, that are happy to help out ....g
Even though it's been a long time, I hope that necroing the thread isn't too big a taboo. I thought I'd update this thread for any other poor sod who may be looking. (Not that my issues are over...) And if anyone has any more suggestions.. well, awesome.
I was unable to get Kies to actually connect to my phone, so the suggested solution did not work. After a few days of fighting Kies, I decided to just wait for JB. After JB, I was okay for a while, but then the draining started up again. This time I noticed that I had 4 processes running and eating up a ton of CPU. I don't recall what they were off the top of my head, but I think Media Storage, Download Manager, DRM Protected Content Storage and yet another. Force closing any one of them stopped them all, and stopped the drain, but they'd start up again. I'm not sure what triggered them, and a bit of digging showed that they are actually useful processes that I can't fully block, so.. for a bit I'd just check what processes were running if I noticed a quick drain, or used an app that alerted me when the phone was awake despite screen being turned off (not always reliable, sadly.) I couldn't catch it all the time, however, so that was really not useful. By the time I caught it, I'd have lost maybe 20% battery.
I read that those processes may be caused by a corrupted file in the internal "SD" or the external SD card. I hard reset, formatted the internal memory, removed the external and after that booted into recovery mode and cleared the cache, just in case.
Last night, after all this, the phone was still being flaky - holding at 1% on the charger for hours. As an added bonus, it now seems to run 4G incessantly, whereas previously it would only activate if I had an MMS coming in. (No data plan, I just have MMS capabilities.) I haven't even looked into that, because I'm just so sick of it all that I'm going to be trying to root today and see where that gets me.
Hopefully that will help anyone else who may be facing this..
Rooted (without screwups, woo), formatted internal memory, removed external micro SD card. Reinstalled my more "vital" apps, and got rid of some of the Rogers bloatware. Phone ran beautifully for a few days, then this morning I noticed battery drain and Media Storage was running at 50% CPU. Stopped it, and the drain stopped.
I didn't add my photos to the phone yet, except for a few albums that sync from Picasa Web Albums. I don't have any music or videos on there.
At this point, I'm debating a custom ROM but I have no idea if that will actually help with this issue? I'm a total noob when it comes to playing around with my phone, and it's only through sheer stubbornness that I gathered up the courage to root after weeks of researching. Another option is trying to find an app that just alerts me if one of those processes starts running so I don't have to keep checking what processes are active on my phone like some junkie. Does anything like that exist out there? I have a battery app that alerts me if the phone is awake with the screen off, but it doesn't always catch it - usually fails, in fact.
At this point, I'd love some help and feedback..
